Gervase Elwes Ibid tag

Hi, for some reason you tagged the Gervase Elwes article references for Ibid/op cit/loc cit etc. Quite right, but as these terms are not used in the references for that article, and such abbreviation as there is (ff for pages following the given number) and cf (see or compare) are not pointers to citations in other footnotes (where the danger of breaking the linkage might arise), I've taken the tag away again. Hello,

I'm working on my first page (about chef Cindy Pawlcyn) and I'm struggling to add basic info such as style of cooking (California). I see that you've edited other chefs such as Rick Bayless. I was coming onto your page to ask you a quick question about using AWB but it seems like this might be some sort of portal into another Wikidimension !?!

Having seen the chat about the "something you made" and that you have over 400,000 edits may make my question a little dumb lol

I was going to ask if you could tell me how you were fixing the cites using AWB after noting your edits on "History of Robotics", the user manual is sort of ok but doesn't really cover everything. For example I have just tried to make it read years in so I can edit them automatically but that doesn't seem to have worked: Find [[1###]] replace with 1### just ain't cutting it lol

So am I missing out on some user manuals that are hidden away somewhere, do you have any advice on where to go looking and am I not using AWB correctly in regard to fixing things like cite problems ? IE should I be loading a list and processing it more than once to get all the errors out or can I do typo, linking, dashes and cite errors in one go ?

You want to be using regular expressions. Find \[\[1(\d\d\d)\]\] replace 1$1 is probably what you want. Rjwilmsi 22:06, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for that link and the info ! I'll test it out later in AWB. As for the cite fixes: is it that I need to choose a different parameter in the "Make list > Source:" or are there a list of modules which can be used in AWB as well as the ones listed when you first install ? thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 23:39, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Im not trying to confuse the conversation here but I just wanted to ask a question loosely related. I use regex to do something similar but my regex code looks like this Find:\[\[([0-9]{4})\]\] replace $1. Would this have the same result? Bot error

Hi. I like that your bot points out dead links. But it unfortunately also removes reference article titles. Please see this diff.

Please fix this before continuing to run the bot. These title deletions make it very difficult or impossible to find other locations of the article. The title is needed to find where the article is archived elsewhere.

I do not get back to editing many articles. So many of these references could be lost. Others may not notice the title deletion if they get around to updating the references. --Timeshifter (talk) 23:14, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Your bot/script blanked a page

Your bot/script has blanked List of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson episodes. I'm not sure if this is an accident, but because the original article is so huge, my computer cannot handle making a diff between the blank and the complete article. There's a rare and intermittent AWB bug that causes it. Happily a rollbacker has already undo the edit (rollback bypasses the diff). Rjwilmsi 22:50, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

RjwilmsiBot with archive url

Done I've set it to not tag a cite as a {{dead link}} when there's an |archvieurl=. It seems a bit odd that the cite templates don't allow us to identify whether or not the original link is still live. Rjwilmsi 06:56, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

R from title without diacritics and similar templates

I noticed this edit which is not the first I have come across. I think it is a bad idea to add these in a semi-automated way. The reasons is that it means non admin users can not move a page to any redirect that you so edit as any redirect with an edit history greater than one the have to go to WP:RM where there is frequently a backlog. I think the potential extra manual work this imposes on administrators out ways the benefits to the project that comes from such an additions. -- PBS (talk) 00:36, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps then the page move rules should be 'permit if user edit count = 1' i.e. excluding bot edits? This would resolve your concern. Rjwilmsi 07:59, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Non-dead link

CiteCompletion, works/pubs adds redundant "work=" to citation templates with journal=Newspaper Name

In, e.g. this edit, RjwilmsiBot modifies a {{citation}} template with journal=[[Newspaper Name]] to add work=Newspaper Name. What exactly is the point of this? It adds redundant information to the template, in a less useful form (because it's missing the wikilink). Can you please stop the bot from doing this? I've rolled back three of these edits so far today and would prefer not to have to block the bot over this issue. —David Eppstein (talk) 22:09, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

You also need to add |magazine= as a synonym, per this faulty edit which added a spurious "CNN" to a Sports Illustrated cite (at the time, CNN and SI had a website alliance, but the source was all SI). Wasted Time R (talk) 10:21, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

hNews microformat

Hi,

If you programme your bot to parse the hNews microformat, then its citation-completion task could be carried out on any page using that microformat, without the need for you to write site-specific rules. location: Place of publication for journal or periodical. The location is the location of the periodical (The Times/The Guardian etc. in this case). If that's still unclear to you I really think you need to take it up on the template's talk page. Rjwilmsi 13:04, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

I tried to remember how I had got here...

It turned out I had followed a bot. It was RjwilmisBot. All the page ranges and parameters looked good.

I had clicked on the ‘View History’ button of an article and suddenly the information was there.

You never know until you look.

I hope I am not considered redundant.
