Redirect reviewing

Hi Rosguill, I noticed you've also been reviewing new redirects. You might find the Sagittarius script useful for categorizing redirects along with reviewing them. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 23:16, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Wugapodes, thanks, although I've been using Twinkle, which supports similar functionality. signed, Rosguill talk 23:19, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
Oh, didn't know Twinkle did that. Guess I learned something today then. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 23:21, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
Wugapodes, somewhat annoyingly, it seems like both Twinkle and Sagittarius have subsets of the full list of redirect templates; it's not clear to me at a glance whether one is better than the other...Sagittarius seems to have a larger set, but it also doesn't support some common ones like {{r from alternative language}} as well signed, Rosguill talk 23:22, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Re-review request for Pan Am Flight 799

Hullo, Rosguill and friendly talk page stalkers. I would appreciate a Wikipedian seeing if recent edits have fixed the Missing Sources / Notability problems Rosguill rightly noted. For reasons I'd rather not get into, I ought not to remove the template messages myself. Thanks for all your good work. -- A.N. Hi IP, I looked at it again and adjusted the tags. I think the current revision is a significant improvement, and notability concerns have largely been addressed, but the article still relies too heavily on primary sources. signed, Rosguill talk 01:32, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Hullo again, Rosguill. Thanks again for your expert help. I wasn't entirely sure how properly to reference it, but essentially all of the additional material that isn't from primary sources such as the airworthiness directives is actually from a good secondary source, pages 209-212 of the 1971 book 'Safety Last: The Dangers of Commerical Aviation; an Indictment by an Airline Pilot', for which I put a link to the Amazon page in the article's footnotes. I own a paperback of the book, but it is not available online in its entirety. However, Google Books has the usual limited except including pages 209-212, here: https://books.google.com/books?id=8tWxjOd_cEcC&pg=PA209&lpg=PA209&dq=anchorage+alaska&source=bl&ots=66JhuzMM-0&sig=ACfU3U1wE8v6HHeroYpcmLbJk0SemZJ4wg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi-hKPEs6HjAhXJrJ4KHZg8CBoQ6AEwBnoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=anchorage%20alaska&f=false Oh, and also the Consequences section is largely paraphrased from a combination of that book and another good secondary source, Prof. Asaf Degani's monograph 'Cockpit Checklists: Concepts, Design, and Use' (from the journal 'Human Factors') that I likewise noted in the footnotes. I hope that helps. -- A.N. Mouse — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.192.207.38 (talk) 06:08, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

RE:〷 listed at Redirects for discussion

Thank you for the message.

I had found the character somewhere online described as "double X" in a list of abnormal Latin characters. If that's erroneous, I have no complaints about the redirect being deleted. Chiafriend12 (talk) 00:40, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

I would like to fix my article you deleted

Hi I'm guessing I'm putting this in the wrong section, but I'm very confused about how all this chat stuff is organized.

Either way, I would like to fix the article you deleted about Bill Maher's special. I can't locate it because you put a redirect into the link.

Please send me a link so I can reinstate what I had written and add more info and sources to it.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Halfire101 (talkcontribs) 21:54, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Halfire101, don't worry, this is the correct place to leave a comment. You should be able to go to the article here. If you find that that sends you forward to the redirect target, you should see small text in the top left corner, just below the title, saying "Redirected from..."––click on that to go to the redirect page. Would you like me to move the article to draft space for you to work on without disruption? signed, Rosguill talk 21:57, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Adminship

Hi. You wrote "I would like to become an admin...." and gave some good reasons. I got your name from looking at Wikipedia:Database reports/Top new article reviewers, where I have previously found some suitable admin candidates lurking in the background. I have done a quick look around at your various stats, paying particular attention to CSDs and AfDs, and the bottom line is I think you can do the job, but by being the most prolific New Page Patroller, it has led to a couple of mistakes that somebody could make a real issue of at RfA if they so desired. Melitz (Hasidic dynasty)

I see you removed the disambiguation "(Hasidic dynasty)". What's with the other Hasidic dynasties? Ma Nishtana? תנא קמא (talk) 17:14, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

תנא קמא, we don't need disambiguation for Meltiz unless there are multiple things named Melitz. As for why I specifically changed this one, it's because I came across it while reviewing newly created redirects. If other such redirects were created within the last month, I'll probably fix them too. But it's not really the most critical thing at this time, so it's not like we need to drop everything to fix this right now. signed, Rosguill talk 18:19, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi, while it's been a while I hadn't checked out the discussion since I commented (and actually the talk page hasn't changed since your closure) [1]. In your closure you said :

(this editor also wrote that they were invited by a bot, despite there being no evidence of such on their talk page)

I was concerned when I read this that someone would claim they were invited by a bot when they hadn't been, so had a look. I only see one editor who said anything about being invited by a bot, User:North8000. Their comment also seems to be similar to your earlier description. Checking out this editor's talk page I see User talk:North8000#Please comment on Talk:Killing of Aya Maasarwe. The invitation should have been there when you visited [2]. I guess maybe you missed it due the the time passed since the invitation or by some other mistake. And for good measure [3] confirms it was indeed left by the bot.

Note that although you did not name the editor concerned, it's quite likely they will be trivially identified by anyone doing a simple text search of the discussion or similar, and the fact that in a few years time it may be harder to find that left by bot thing and some people aren't going to check anyway.

Given all this, IMO you should strike out or otherwise clarify your closure to remove the claim. Probably simplest would be to edit the closing statement striking that part and at the end add a short addendum saying the text was struck out as it was in error and date it. (You could use <ins> and <del> tags, see WP:REDACT if you are unfamiliar.) Or do whatever you think will work so that future readers are not mislead.

Adding categories to redirects

Hi Rosguill. I've noticed that you've been reviewing a lot of the redirect pages and articles I've been creating recently - thanks! Would you like me to include those templates with categories for the redirects, that I see you've been adding, or is that part of your job as reviewer? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 13:40, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Laterthanyouthink, if you want to add them yourself, go for it! It makes my job a bit easier because for more obscure redirects it lets me know what the relationship between the redirect and the target is. You may find Twinkle or Sagittarius/Capricorn to be useful scripts for adding tags quickly. signed, Rosguill talk 13:44, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I'll have a go at it next time. I've used Twinkle for other things so will try using that. Thanks. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 14:30, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
I just added Gilbert McMinn and Twinkle didn't seem to offer me a suitable option. I was in a hurry so found one that you'd edited and copied from there. Perhaps I missed something, or else don't have the right rights to use Twinkle for this purpose? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:26, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
Laterthanyouthink, yeah Twinkle is missing a few, Saggitarius has more. I prefer it to Sagittarius because Sagittarius's interface is annoying for when you actually want to click through the redirect link (which is necessary when you want to actually review the redirect). signed, Rosguill talk 16:11, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
Okay, thanks, I'll have to have a look at Sagittarius though (and not just because it's my zodiac sign), because Twinkle only seems to offer me RPP and Unlink, neither of which look fit for this purpose... Laterthanyouthink (talk) 09:19, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

Fascism in Europe

Hello, I personally have taken issues with the manner you closed the RfC on the page, first of all, you said that the Estado Novo "should not be presented as fascist alongside unambiguously fascist regimes such as Mussolini's", however, the same thing can be said about most regimes on the list, the only regimes that are considered "unambiguosly Fascist" are Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, and even Nazi Germany sometimes isn't considered Fascist, so you would have to remove almost every regime from the list, one might try to do so, but this is something that definitely would require consensus, another issue I have is the result of the RfC, 4-3 (and that is counting a user who didn't even vote) is a very narrow result for a consensus, even more so in this case since discussions about if the Estado Novo or other regimes can be considered Fascist or not are very controversial. -- 177.159.223.177 (talk) 21:47, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

You're right, I think I mis-appraised the role of the at-issue text when I made the close and didn't realize the extent to which other listed regimes also were only tenuously associated with fascism. signed, Rosguill talk 04:09, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

The Redirect "Habit (headdress}"

Shalom User:Rosguill. I'm sure that you meant well in changing the "redirect" I made from "Habit (headdress)" to "Religious habit" (see edit), but as a purveyor of classical literature, the word "habit" is often simply used to describe a form of head covering worn on a regular, daily basis by men of the Middle-East, and where the custom is to have his head covered. It has nothing to do with religion, per se, although it may have started as a religious practice. The word "habit" is still used in English to describe the cloth-covering (Keffiyeh) worn by Arab men, but also refers to the headdress worn similarly by Jewish men, and draped over their heads. It was a common attire for married men of the Jewish faith in Yemen. In fact, it is mentioned often in the Babylonian Talmud, e.g. Moed Katan 15a, and Eruvin 84b, where the Aramaic word used for "habit" is "sudera" (Latin: sudarium) and which was usually worn by Jews with a central cap known in Aramaic as "kumtha." In Kiddushin 29b, there it mentions the Rabbi who refused to wear a "sudera" (habit) on his head until he was married, meaning, his head was only covered by a cap. Rabbi Yosef Qafih, in his description of Yemenite Jewish clothing, agrees that there is a difference between "mitznefeth" = "turban," and "sudar" = "habit". One is longer than the other, but other than that, both are a type of head gear made of cloth. The word "habit" is also used by the English translator of Josephus, who writes with respect to Mordechai that he stood before the court of the king (Ahasuerus) in "a mourning habit" (see Antiquities 11.6.7.); or where Josephus writes about himself that, when he stood in danger, he "put on a different habit," that is to say, the apparel of an ordinary man (see The Jewish War 2.21.3). While it is also true that the word denotes a "nun's headdress," as you can see in the Oxford online dictionary, it is by no means limited to that definition. The Oxford Dictionary adds there: "Origin Middle English from Old French abit, habit, from Latin habitus ‘condition, appearance’, from habere ‘have, consist of’. The term originally meant ‘dress, attire’, later coming to denote physical or mental constitution." (END QUOTE). The Random House Webster's College Dictionary, s.v. habit, brings down several definitions, one of which being: ""garb of a particular rank, profession, religious order, etc." (END QUOTE). As you can see, then, the word is not limited to "religious habit." Would you agree that we restore the redirect "Habit (headdress)" to Keffiyeh? Better still, perhaps we can cancel the redirect altogether and we can make a disambiguation page for the word "Habit," giving the several meanings and definitions. Your input please.Davidbena (talk) 13:14, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Davidbena, I think that the disambiguation route is likely the best. I've gone ahead and redirected the page to Habit (disambiguation)#Apparel. signed, Rosguill talk 15:32, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

You have proposed this article for deletion. Capt. Duncan Ronald Gordon Mackay. D.F.C not notable?

On 10 November 1918 he was taken prisoner but died of wounds the next day, Armistice Day - the last day of the war. One of the last to be killed in the war.

I realise that there is no category for those who are the last to die in a conflict, but that is notable. Surely? Shipsview (talk) 08:00, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Shipsview, notability is a function of available content in reliable sources. While you could make the argument that being the last to die is a strong indicator of notability, it's on you to come up with the examples to demonstrate that this is likely the case. I honestly doubt that the majority of soldiers killed on the last day of a conflict meet GNG, which is essentially what you would have to demonstrate in order for your argument to be valid. signed, Rosguill talk 17:40, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
I am not claiming he was the last soldier to die. The various last soldiers of differing nationalities have their own entries, so presumably 'notable'. I think he was the last British aviator to be killed. So hold off whilst I seek that fact. Shipsview (talk) 11:56, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
He was the last Scot to be killed in World War 1.[1] It seems that he was the last airman to be killed in combat. 18 members of the Royal Air Force died in 11th November, some in training and some not aircrew. However, I am unable (so far) to find a definitive source.[2]
Well, regardless of whether or not this should be adopted as an SNG, I think the coverage in Express is enough to justify removing the PROD. Sorry, I just remembered that the Express isn't considered to be an RS. Still, I think I'll remove the PROD and so that the article can get a second opinion from another new page patroller. signed, Rosguill talk 17:22, 26 July 2019 (UTC) 17:27, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Mm08jimmy, it doesn't look like you've started any pages so I'm not sure which page you're talking about. At any rate, the answer is "maybe". Mm08jimmy, I've moved the draft to mainspace so that it's in the new page queue and someone can review it. My assessment is that the subject might be notable: the coverage in the provided sources is very short, and I'm not really familiar with the sources so I can't say for certain that they're reliable. However, the coverage does appear to be secondary, so if the sources are reliable then notability is likely met. signed, Rosguill talk 17:14, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Polar telescope

Not sure if Polaris telescope is specifically referring to a Meade Instruments manufacturer. If intent of the reference would be particular telescope manufacturer it will be mentioned I assume. It is more about specific technique of observation - Polar alignment. Thank you for reconsidering. User:Abune (talk) 01:22, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Abune, when I searched for the term online, all of the top results were about the product line by Meade, and their web page refers to them as Polaris™. Meanwhile, Polar alignment doesn't refer to anything as a "polaris telescope". Additionally, while I'm not an expert in astronomy by any means and will defer to examples of usage, referring to a polar-aligned telescope as a Polaris telescope seems a bit ungrammatical. signed, Rosguill talk 01:35, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Pirojpur is a city's name, and that redirected article was about the city. Great Hero32 (talk) 04:28, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Great Hero32, Perhaps the article should be at Pirojpur, and perhaps it should be at Pirojpur district, you're right that I don't know which it should be offhand. What I do know is that they shouldn't both be redirects pointing at each other, and I fixed that. Also, as for why other editors have been reverting your attempts to put an article at Pirojpur, bear in mind that backing up content with reliable sources is more important than what an editor personally knows about Bangladesh (or any other topic). signed, Rosguill talk 04:35, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

As you said the articles are pointing each other but in real the are not. Suppose there are two articles named 'soup' and 'Tomato soup'. Then the question is, 'Are they both are same thing or not? Like soup can be made of many things but tomato soup is only made of tomato. When there is no such article as 'Tomato soup' in Wikipedia, the creator of the article named 'soup' makes an redirection of Tomato soup
to 'Soup' article. Now you please tell me that if you want to open a article of 'tomato soup', won't you redirect the page 'soup' to 'tomato soup'? What I did this here is that at first i redirected Pirojpur District to Pirojpur, so that i can get a page to create the article Pirojpur, which is about the Pirojpur city of it's eponymous district. Hope you understand and will not make reversion of redirect in Pirojpur/Pirojpur district article.I assure you that i will create an article with reliable sources and citations.

This article was the back 2.2 screen pages of the "Backup" article since the fall of 2017, where it was the subject of extensive editing by User:JohnInDC. Since its separation it has been copy-edited by User:Ananya60vc, who made some legitimate fixes even though his/her native language is evidently not English. Wikipedia library

Hello Rosguill, hope you are doing well. I mostly work with free content online (not having an e-commerce account or a library nearby). Every now and then, I come across documents that I find absolutely essential but behind paywalls. I somehow got to a page where you can signup for free access from here. I tried to request JSTOR but it said it required my personal information to grant access. Not knowing what that implies and how much wikipedia knows about me, I went no further. So, I was wondering where I could get information on what exactly JSTOR or other resources will require me to disclose. Living in a country not famous for freedom of speech, I am cautious about divulging information that could link back my Wikipedia contributions to my real identity (assuming I haven't already, I am not sure how much info my email provider gave to Wikipedia). I haven't edited anything that controversial yet, but I might need to in the future.

Alternatively, could I ask fellow wikipedians/somewhere for some specific documents I need to access for my work here, and could they lend me the document; or tell me if the source supports the text I want to use it to support (I understand this would be crazy bad editing practice, but we have to work with what we got, sometimes search engine summary of a paper gives enough hint as to its suitability as a reference to a particular claim)? Etcetera. Thanks! Usedtobecool   06:56, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Usedtobecool, I got JSTOR access long enough ago that I don't remember what it asked (I do remember that it asked for my first and last name, I forget if there were other details). Redirecting my pages

Multiple articles I made which had taken me over 8 hours, you completely deleted and redirected them. What is wrong with you? RidingStuff (talk) 04:34, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

RidingStuff, I can't say I know which articles you're talking about, could you provide links? I review several hundred redirects a day, so there's a solid chance that someone else converted your article to a redirect and I marked the redirect as reviewed (which simply means that the redirect is appropriate, it's not a comment on whether the page should be a redirect or an article).
That having been said, it's very easy to restore an article. If you disagree with a conversion to redirect, feel free to revert the edit from the page history and state why in the edit summary. However, if another editor continues to disagree at this point, there should be a discussion either on the talk page or in an AfD discussion. Also, bear in mind that articles are not yours, even if you worked very hard on them. signed, Rosguill talk 05:41, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Question about newly created page

Do split pages usually inherit the editing restrictions of the page they're split from? (I'm referring to the new Political positions of Tulsi Gabbard.) Given the history on this page they probably should. Is this a question for WP:AN? Thanks for any insight you have on this. 🌿 SashiRolls t · c 21:10, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

SashiRolls, my gut reaction is "yes", but I'm not an expert on this matter and haven't attempted to consult any policy pages. It seems like the common sense thing. An administrator would be more qualified to respond (and AN would be a good place to ask this question), although you could probably go ahead and boldly place the arbitration warnings on the talk page with the justification that it's a subtopic of a subject for which arbitration is in place. signed, Rosguill talk 21:16, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Copyright violation

I was told to edit a new page that I created and remove copyright violations, I've done that and I would love you to take a look at the page and review and patrol it. Thanks.

The page is located at Patrick Chuka.

Nnadigoodluck (talk) 17:41, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Nnadigoodluck, sorry, I generally only do new page reviews on request for particularly easy cases–as I'm not particularly familiar with the sources currently cited at Patrick Chuka, that is not the case here. Currently the backlog for new page reviews is about 90 days long, so please be patient.
On a related note, while it's good that you edited the article to remove copyright violations, you should not have removed the rev-del template, as that is necessary for purging the article's history of copyright-violating content. Please reinstate a template and let an admin take care of this issue. signed, Rosguill talk 18:37, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

NickCentral (company) page

Hello. The information on the "NickCentral (company)" page is from the publication / magazine itself, which is why I cannot put the references, and only the online store is private, the magazine is public, and I even have a few copies in digital, but I cannot put them to reference. So if you could, I would like you to not delete the page. And excuse my grammar, im not a english speaker, but i like to improve the wikipedia with new information. Have a great night/day AlbForLife4 (talk) 21:46, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

AlbForLife4, it is required that articles on Wikipedia have citations to independent reliable sources. If such sources are not available for NickCentral, we should not have an article about it. I would suggest reading WP:YFA for information about how to go about writing articles about new topics on Wikipedia. signed, Rosguill talk 22:01, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello. I added more references on the page... AlbForLife4 (talk) 12:26, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

AlbForLife4, at this point, you should raise any opposition to deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NickCentral (company) so that others can see it. That having been said, the "references" you've added demonstrate that you need to familiarize yourself more with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I would suggest reading through WP:YFA and WP:V for introductions to writing articles and citing sources. signed, Rosguill talk 17:03, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello. The references that I added to the page are the only "public" links, the other information I took them from the site itself, and others are from .pdf files which were also downloaded from the site (because the site is a store). Pls excuse my HORRIBLE grammar...im not a english speaker and and I hurry. Bye AlbForLife4 (talk) 20:37, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

AlbForLife4 I understand that these are the only public links. The lack of more publicly available information is the reason why the article was nominated for deletion. If your English skills are not good enough to read and understand English Wikipedia's policies, you should stick to contributing to Wikipedias in languages that you can speak well (or make non-written contributions, like finding photos for articles). That having been said, is there another language that you speak better? I may be able to talk to you in that language to clarify anything you don't understand. signed, Rosguill talk 20:45, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

I understand English quite well, but I don't speak it very well ... and as I said, most of the information on the page is from private sources, and I think they are not taken into account, no? AlbForLife4 (talk) 21:30, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

The private sources are of no use to us on Wikipedia, as they are not independent of the subject and not verifiable. signed, Rosguill talk 22:11, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Wat Bot City F.C. playing in Thai League 4 not Thailand Amateur League

Wat Bot City F.C. is competing in Thai League 4 Northern region. You can find additional data from Thai League's official website [4]. It is not amateur teams. Thai League 4 is a professional league system. 2019 season featured since 9 February to 1 September, 27 matches for Northern region. So that, these teams must not redirect to Thailand Amateur League. I think sources from Thai league official website in the club's history are credible because it is a website of Football Association of Thailand. Thai League 4 is a division that higher than Thailand Amateur League. From 60 teams, there are only 12 teams qualified to champions league stage, Wat Bot City is one of 12 teams. I add 2 sources to club's history about establish of Wat Bot City and introduce of 12 teams in T4 champions league. All of teams that competing in Thai League 4 have the wiki articles but only Wat Bot City has redirected to the lower tournament. Gunkiet (talk) 4:07, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dear , i want to ask when the article is published what would be tag to put on article so reviewer like you can get notifications that this page must be patrolled or am i missing something ? kindly clarify it , much thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by MemonBhai (talkcontribs) 06:23, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

MemonBhai, as long as the article is in the mainspace (i.e. it doesn't have a "Draft:" prefix) then it will be in the new article queue and a new page reviewer will get to it eventually, no need for any special action on your part. Currently the backlog is roughly 90 days long. signed, Rosguill talk 16:23, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Rosguill. Seems you added some templates to the contribution on Hans Mortensen. Which is fine, though I'm unsure where the article needs additional references according to you. But could you by any chance review the article once again, as I made some changes to it which hopefully has neutralized what you consider subjective wording (no additional citations or references added yet, unfortunately). Kind regards RODAPA (talk) 22:06, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

Hello Rosguill,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Go here to remove your name if you wish to opt-out of future mailings.

Ongoing Super Audio CD dispute

This is still ongoing. So far we have two editors for the change (which is to remove a reference to a controversial and obsolete study from the article lead), one editor "50/50", and one editor adamantly opposed. My initial DRN request was ignored by the editor who seems adamantly opposed to any change to the article, and died on the vine. An RfC hasn't attracted any additional outside opinions. The opposing editor (who's been blocked 9 times for edit warring and disruptive editing) is trying to straw-man the argument to death and is ignoring the secondary sources he demanded early on. The page is locked, but that ends tomorrow. What next? Open a new DRN? I'm a writer and editor by trade in real life, but inexperienced with dealing with this sort of thing on Wikipedia. Thanks. Dharmabumstead (talk) 19:56, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

Dharmabumstead, DRN is a voluntary process, so for as long as other parties to this conflict aren't interested in participating there, there's nothing we can do to help there. I would be a bit more patient with the RfC--they're supposed to run for 30 days before being closed, so it would be premature to start looking for other options right now. It seems like one of the other editors is trying to argue for some sort of compromise, so there may be a solution through working with them.
A word of advice that's applicable here, but also in general on Wikipedia talk pages, is to be a bit more succinct when making arguments, and avoid back-and-forth arguments unless you're actually making significant progress toward a compromise. Seeing a wall of text makes uninvolved editors less likely to want to get involved. This is doubly true for when you're using an RfC to mediate a dispute, since by definition you've already hashed out the main arguments with editors who disagree. State your case, allow the other side to state theirs, and then back off and let other editors weigh in. The only case where it may be appropriate to respond to an editor you're disputing with during an RfC is if they are actively misrepresenting your position or the contents of a specific source, and even then, a single sentence stating your objection should suffice. A general rule of thumb in Wikipedia discussions is that whoever talks more loses. signed, Rosguill talk 21:07, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately that other editor has already made some stuff up, both about me (in the original DRN) and in deliberately mischaracterizing quotes from a paywalled trade journal article he thought I couldn't see. I'm new here and find this aggressive behavior discouraging.
Can the page remain locked until the RfC is played out? The other editor in question has a long history of bans for disruptive editing/edit warring, and I think he'll just start doing it again when the block runs out tomorrow. Dharmabumstead (talk) 21:55, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Dharmabumstead, if they engage in edit warring or other sanctionable behavior, you can open a case at WP:ANI. Be forewarned that your own editing record will come under scrutiny if you go there, so make sure that the other party is actually engaging in uncivil, sanctionable behavior (violating anti-edit warring rules does count), and that you don't have any relevant skeletons in your own closet before going there. Make sure to also read the instructions about how to open an ANI case before filing there, as they are non-trivial and failure to comply can derail the case that you're trying to make.
You could also request for renewed page protections at WP:RPP, although I'm not sure how likely they are to be granted. The bright side is that there aren't really any consequences for a single declined page-protection request. signed, Rosguill talk 22:00, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
