Lihaas

Hi, could you take a quick look at Talk:Suicide_of_Tyler_Clementi#article_cleanup where Lihaas has added the GOCE banner with a view to offering Lihaas some independent advice? Lihaas' recent edits as a GOCE member have resulted in issues on other articles (contributions to 2010 in LGBT rights have resulted in an ANI notice). Unfortunately the indications are that Lihaas' grasp of English and defensive manner on talk pages will continue to be problematic and a poor reflection on WP:GOCE. I enjoyed looking through the coordinator chat relating to this. It sounds like you may reach an improvement in the GOCE guidelines based on this case. My 2p worth would be to consider what it means to be a "trusted" GOCE member (which may then entail being able to officially add the talk page headers) and a simple, probably voluntary, process for peer reviewing and providing semi-formal feedback and advice on a GOCE member's contributions (similar to the current Editor Review process) which might lead to gaining "trusted" status. I'm glad that you're enjoying our discussion. As you can see from that, the Guild has over 500 members, and we cannot be responsible for their edit, nor do we necessarily endorse them. Lihaas has gone beyond the scope of the work of the Guild. Nevertheless, we are concerned about his conduct, and will take appropriate action and alert him of our concerns. You should perhaps see first the scope of the discussion which you havent. You would then note that other editors can actually talk instead of running of to ANI with WP:OWN issues. BOTH other articles are being discussed.

Lihaas, in this particular case, the Guild is not so much concerned about the issues of WP:OWN, or if there was sufficient discussion on article talk pages. The Guild is more concerned about the bigger picture – the quality of work.The Guild is also concerned in cases of content dispute (as in this case). We do not handle disputes, these are handled at WP:DRR. However, we are concerned if it is appropriate for our members who are involved with a dispute, to use the {{GOCE}} tag. Doing so drags the Guild into the dispute, whether intentionally or not. I have indeed gone through all the discussions. What makes you think that I haven't? It does worry me though, that in this very discussion, no care has been taken to use apostrophes for "havent" and "didnt", and "fiact" is spelt incorrectly. Although language in talk pages is not formal, it is normally expected to be of a basic standard. I have to say that it does not reflect well on an editor, if their communication on talk pages appear as sloppy and full of errors. re: Signpost question

We don't have a style guide at WP Report. Some casual language and the occasional emoticon is okay. However, some respondents tend to be overly verbose or mention things that may be confusing/misconstrued by other readers. Feel free to add yourself to the schedule. The earliest opening is January 17, but you can bump UK Waterways from Jan 10 if you'd like to get in sooner. Pick a project that interests you, is fairly active, and hopefully hasn't been done multiple times (check the archive). The list on the WikiProject Report Desk is a good place to start, but you are not bound to these suggestions. Also, try to pick a project with which you are NOT an active member. That way we can at least try to be objective. Feel free to use the workspaces to conduct interviews and get everything ready. I can help find interviewees and answer any questions you may have. Great, thanks. I am thinking of doing two projects that are very active, but have not been covered before: Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket and Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics. What do you think? Also, how do you identify who to interview? Both are great projects. I have a few tricks for finding the "main people" of each project. Go to the project's talk page and click the History tab. Near the top of the history list is a link for Contributors. Click that and it will give you a ranking of the most active people on the project's talk page including dates for the first and last time they edited the page. For example, here's the list for WP Mathematics. When contacting interviewees, you can use my standard greeting located at the top of this page. Just be sure to add the correct project information and update the location where you wrote the interview questions. -Mabeenot (talk) 21:20, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
