Status of the 4 undated articles

These four articles are still shown in the count as undated articles. Israeli Arts and Kurt Adler do not have copyedit templates. How does this get resolved?--DThomsen8 (talk) 13:32, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

I had a look at the Cat. but I don't see any of these articles there. Am I looking at the right place? Which page are these articles listed on? – SMasters (talk) 14:20, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
On Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Backlog elimination drives/March 2011 there is a list on the right with counts for each month. The final entry before the total says there are 4 undated articles. Earlier, other editors listed the four articles on the project talk page. These four articles are an anomaly that should be resolved in the count, and in actual copyediting. Maybe you can find out how the 4 articles were identified. --DThomsen8 (talk) 16:14, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
When I said I went to the Cat., I clicked on the undated articles link, and it took me to Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit. But there are no articles there. I suspect that the bot has picked up these from somewhere but cannot detect a date and does not know what to do with them. But these four articles are certainly not listed under that Cat. I'll have to chat with some tech folks to see what the problem is, and this might take a few days. – SMasters (talk) 16:22, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
The template documentation admits there may be a problem with the undated numbers, and there has been some queries about it on its talk page, including one regarding the GOCE (still unresolved). I wouldn't worry about it so much. It's probably just a bug. – SMasters (talk) 16:44, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

I have copy-edited the Àlex Ollé article, so none of these 4 articles is still tagged for copy-editing, and therefore they should not be counted in the remaining articles to be done. --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:31, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Copy editing drive

Thank you for the note. I worked hard to edit two Wikipedia entries, the entries on Charles Barron and Malati Dasi. I am proud to have received barn stars for my efforts. I hope to work on additional entries in the drive but my time is limited because I have a lot do at work. When I get a chance, I will edit another entry or two in the copy editing drive.Iss246 (talk) 14:26, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your efforts! If you don't have much time, you may want to use CatScan (instructions are on the main drive page). Click on ascending or descending to search the articles by size. You can search for very short articles that won't take so long to copy edit, and you will help us reduce the size of the backlog. Some articles are just a few paragraphs. Marking articles students are working on

Howdy, Online Ambassador!

This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students (in particular, any ones you are mentoring, but others who don't have mentors as well) and do these things:

  1. Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
  2. If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
  3. Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.

And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.

Thanks for letting me know. Excellent start! As this article is a collaborative effort (well, all articles are, but more so for this as there is a concentrated effort on it), I have decided to move to article to the main space. This is so that others working on it can easily follow the development of the article. This will also allow all of us to discuss any changes, improvements, etc. on the article's talk page. This will make it easier in terms of facilitating and centralizing all our discussions. Please visit the page and its associated talk page, and we will take things from there. Professor Obar Concerns

Got a message about an hour ago from Professor Obar of the Media and Telecommunication Policy project and I think it is viewed best in full:

Can you please communicate to the online mentors that I DO NOT want them moving student material into the main space for them. This is a big problem. I have noticed that this has happened with a number of the projects already, for example, in the broadband.gov article and the media cross-ownership article. We need the students to be doing this on their own, of course so they can learn how to do it, and also so that I can grade what they've done. How am I supposed to follow student submissions if the data is associated with online mentors? A BIG PROBLEM ALREADY... please help me with this. None of you responded to my post about this on the discussion page. This is about to get out of hand. Jaobar (talk) 05:27, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

With that, of course, please only give instructions on how to move, don't do it for them. Please only let them know what to do and let them do it themselves. If they run into problems, provide further instructions. Do not it for them. This seems to be making a mess of Prof. Obar's grading system and I would like to avoid that. Media cross-ownership

SMasters,

I had to re-edit our page. Our instructor instructed us to remove the copy you uploaded with a copy of one of us uploading it - apparently him and the wikipedia folks required it so that we can get credit for working on the project. However, I told my classmates to get on the discussion page and start working on those suggestions you mentioned.

I re-uploaded the old version from my sandbox, I also added a few of your old changes to the new ones that I really liked; like the intro line and that "the big six" line that was in bold before I listed 'the big six' ... anyway, I loved all the edits you had in there before, mine and my project partners will try and work them back in.

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Good Article Nominations Request For Comment

A 'Request For Comment' for Good Article Nominations is currently being held. We are asking that you please take five to ten minutes to review all seven proposals that will affect Good Article Nominations if approved. Full details of each proposal can be found here. Please comment on each proposal (or as many as you can) here.
