GA Review

Hello. How are you? Can you look at GA review of this article, please? It has been nearly a month now and I could not see any sign of care from anyone (yes, I know that there are a lot of nominees). So I thought it would be better to personally ask. --► Sincerely: A¥×aᚢ Zaÿïþzaþ€(hail sithis!) 04:05, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I am a busy person IRL nowadays, but I occasionally take out time like once a week to do a few reviews. Your article looks good overall, and I would be happy to take up the review in the next one or two weeks when I get some time (I am already on 2 other reviews). Meanwhile, I would say it seems good but before the review starts, please work on providing inline citations, which are clearly missing in many sections of the article; basically many sections look unsourced as we do not know which sources have been used to get that particular info. This appears to be the most prominent issue to me and resolving this asap would also ease the review process in future. Good luck, and hoping to work with you soon! Sainsf (talk · contribs) 13:29, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
Hello again. Thank you for your response. Good luck with your other reviews! I didn't fully understand what you meant there. There are 39 references in the article (overall). I published this edit, which reuses references in multiple places. Originally, I avoided that, because I divided some of the texts into separate paragraphs. --► Sincerely: A¥×aᚢ Zaÿïþzaþ€(hail sithis!) 00:04, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
@Aykhan Zayedzadeh: Sorry for my delayed response, I totally missed out on your question. What I mean by having inline citations is that no part of your article body should look like it has no sources to support it. Having a citation right at the end of a part implies the part is backed up by that source, lack of a citation raises questions. So, as you have worked out nicely in your recent edits to the article, it is a good practice to put your refs right after the parts they support throughout the article. The issue seems to be gone. I will try to take up the review if possible, if I can't then I hope someone else will soon, as one can't really say anything on how long GA noms might have to wait. Good luck! Sainsf (talk · contribs) 08:32, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Cactus Wren GA

Howdy hello Sainsf! I know I'd been a little slow at getting back to your feedback on Talk:Cactus_wren/GA1, but I did clean it all up about two weeks ago. I know you're a busy feller, but if you've the time I'd appreciate your examining my questions on the GA and seeing if my fixes were up to par so that we can get this article moving right along. Thanks a bunch, Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:20, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Hey, sorry for the delay from my side. I did see your replies but did not have the time to go through them right then. I have had some free time since yesterday so I was anyway planning to get back to your nom too. No worries, we do not have much work left. Cheers, Sainsf (talk · contribs) 08:14, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Sources in Odia

Hi! I saw that you've identified yourself as someone who speaks Odia on your user page. Can you see if there are any sources in Odia that would help more firmly establish notability for B. Vijayalakshmi (ବି ବିଜୟଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ)? It's not one of the languages available on Google translate. I noticed that the article exists in other language versions, and I'm hoping that some more sources can be found in non-English languages. Anything you can add would be great. Thanks, Enwebb (talk) 02:31, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I had a look at the article and the AfD. I tried my best to find more sources but there aren't any available online, not even in Odia. I will voice my opinion at the AfD nevertheless; the article has improved and despite the few sources that mention her she is a person notable enough to have an article. Cheers, Sainsf (talk · contribs) 06:35, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your efforts and for weighing in at the AfD! Enwebb (talk) 13:50, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

IUCN → cite iucn

If you are going to continue to manually convert {{IUCN}} to {{cite iucn}} as you did here, please also convert |assessorn= to |authorn=. This would also apply to |assessor-linkn=, |assessor-maskn=, and their variants. Because {{cite iucn}} is a citation template, it makes some sense that it should use parameter names that are consistent with the cs1|2 templates that coexist in article pages. For that reason, support for |assessorn=, |assessor-linkn=, and |assessor-maskn= will be going away.

I will modify my script to catch and fix {{cite iucn}} templates with |assessor...= parameters and will be using Cheetah as a test bed so please leave those templates with |assessorn= as they are; the script will do the repair.

I have hacked {{make cite iucn}} which you may find helpful.

Invitation to the 2020 WikiCup

Happy New Year, Happy New Decade and Happy New WikiCup! The 2020 WikiCup began at the start of January and all article creators, expanders and improvers are welcome to take part. If you are interested in joining, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page. Creative editors like yourself seem to enjoy taking part, and many return year after year. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup are Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email), Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Vanamonde93 (talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:27, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

A Barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
For doing both the Good and Featured article reviews for cactus wren, and being all around helpful throughout the process, I award you this barnstar. It was my first GA and FA, and I'm super excited its been promoted; you made the process chill and welcoming. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:44, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Wow, this is lovely :) I've been following your FAC and it's a wonder how well it turned out. I'm especially impressed by how well you handled it as a relatively new editor! I know how tough it is to improve an article all the way to an FA when you're new to it, so it is an honour if I can help even with a review to help your work shine. Congratulations, I await your next nom :D Sainsf (talk · contribs) 20:43, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
And yes, though you've definitely learned a lot in this whole process, as you are still new to GAs and FAs don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help. I would be more than happy to work with you :) Sainsf (talk · contribs) 20:47, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Ocelot

On 17 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ocelot, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that artist Salvador Dalí claimed that his pet ocelot (both pictured) was an ordinary domestic cat that he had "painted over in an op art design"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ocelot. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ocelot), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Picture of the day

On 16th February, a photograph of the Dharmaraya Swamy Temple is planned to be picture of the day on the main page of Wikipedia, as can be seen here. This photograph became a featured picture about 10 years ago and should have appeared at POTD ages ago, but was rejected because the article about the temple was substandard. I have become interested in the POTD project and have now improved / expanded the article. Now I know nothing about Indian temples, so I wondered if you, as an Indian, could check the article, and the POTD blurb for any gross errors - the sort of thing that readers might complain about at Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors. Thanks. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:37, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I had a look. I've not checked the sources so I can't yet vouch for the accuracy of all details though they appear to be proper and the details about Draupadi are indeed correct. I'll check the sources later. Great job on the article :) Sainsf (talk · contribs) 22:08, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Hey Cwmhiraeth, I checked the book sources but I can't check the one with only snippets visible. The Economic Times source is fine but the Bombay Mirror one is a dead url that I am unable to find an archived source for. Sainsf (talk · contribs) 16:21, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

That's fine, thanks. The article does not have to be perfect, just free of the worst errors. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:34, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

WikiCup 2020 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 57 contestants qualifying. We have abolished the groups this year, so to qualify for Round 3 you will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with a featured article, five good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 895 points.
  • England Gog the Mild came next with 464 points, from a featured article, two good articles and a number of reviews, the main theme being naval warfare.
  • United States Raymie was in third place with 419 points, garnered from one good article and an impressive 34 DYKs on radio and TV stations in the United States.
  • Somerset Harrias came next at 414, with a featured article and three good articles, an English civil war battle specialist.
  • Pirate flag CaptainEek was in fifth place with 405 points, mostly garnered from bringing Cactus wren to featured article status.
  • The top ten contestants at the end of Round 1 all scored over 200 points; they also included United States L293D, Venezuela Kingsif, Antarctica Enwebb, England Lee Vilenski and Nepal CAPTAIN MEDUSA. Seven of the top ten contestants in Round 1 are new to the WikiCup.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. In Round 1 there were four featured articles, one featured list and two featured pictures, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. Between them, contestants completed 127 good article reviews, nearly a hundred more than the 43 good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Contestants also claimed for 40 featured article / featured list reviews, and most even remembered to mention their WikiCup participation in their reviews (a requirement).

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup newsletter correction

There was an error in the WikiCup 2020 March newsletter; United States L293D should not have been included in the list of top ten scorers in Round 1 (they led the list last year), instead, United States Dunkleosteus77 should have been included, having garnered 334 points from five good articles on animals, living or extinct, and various reviews. Possible GA review

Hi again! A while ago I mentioned the Agatha Christie article to another editor but haven't heard back. It's a bigger job than the other articles I've been working on but if you were interested in reviewing it I could let the other editor know. Thanks,  ~ RLO1729💬 01:40, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

I am an avid reader of Christie's works, would love to review this! You requested for an experienced editor for this so I thought you meant someone familiar with literature articles and stuff. So if it is fine with you I will take this. It is a long one so I will do the review slowly starting next week. Thanks for letting me know :) Sainsf (talk · contribs) 02:20, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Great, many thanks! Although I'm sure it would be OK for you to just take it on formally, as a courtesy I'll check with the other editor in case he has already put background effort into reviewing the article and is still intending to do it.  ~ RLO1729💬 02:48, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks again for undertaking this review Sainsf. My co-Agatha-editor Tbytheriver and I are looking forward to your comments. We began editing this article collaboratively back in October 2019 but it has been around much longer and so there have been many other editors involved along the way. We have endeavoured to broaden the article's depth and breadth of coverage as well as improve its academic precision and uniformity of style, but expect there is still room for improvement.  ~ RLO1729💬 05:02, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
