Billings, Montana[edit]

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia. Saw your message about the photos I deleted on Billings, Montana. Some pics showed the same object (example, a building) at least three times. I deleted the photo of the damaged arena (which I took) because it is already on the Metra's main page. I deleted the Beartooth Mountains pic because I thought...well, mabey I'll add it back but make it smaller. I'll add back the photo of Pompey's Pillar. Thanks for your input:)

RE: Images?[edit]

Hi, yes I do live here and was born in Billings. If you look on my userpage (click on wolfdog406 in my signature at the bottom), you'll see that I'm from Billings.

But I think calling me a "terrorist" and "Nazi" is definitely uncalled for. I love Billings too and no I am not trying to make a bad impression of Billings at all!

If you have an issue about Billings' page on Wiki, just say so but in a civil manner.

Tagging Billings, Montana[edit]

Hi Sara goth. First of all, yes, I am a new editor and this is my first edit. I did not tag the article to be mean to you; I just did it because the errors I've seen have been there for a while now and nobody has fixed them yet.

My biggest beef is with the History section. There are several instances of words that should be capitalized ("TransAmerica center" and "MET transit center" for example) and punctuation errors ("I-90" instead of "I90", "national companies" instead of "national company's", and no period after the first sentence of the seventh paragraph, for example). The last sentence also reads like an advertisement to me. Finally, the section seems a little long to me. Perhaps you could delete some of the less essential information from it.

If you just go through the article and fix the errors, the article will read so much better. Perhaps you can consult a style manual while you do it. Sara, place names (which are proper nouns) should be capitalized ("TransWestern Center"). As for MET, I just meant the "transit center" part.

Billings Politics[edit]

Hey, please don't remove the sentence that tells about Billings' politics. Just look at Missoula, they have it where it says Missoula is Liberal. Yes Billings is mainly Conservative (I was careful because I know there are some areas of town that vote Democrat/Liberal) and did vote republican in the last presidential election so that part is true! Look here: Yellowstone County 2008 Election Results. I also added a reference for that statement.

k I won't add that Billings is conservative but I especially don't believe that Billings is Liberal either. Lets just keep the political ideals and how Billings voted out of the Billings page, both conservative and liberal and leave it neutral.

I have deleted this article as a blatant copyright violation as well as removed the same text which you added to Billings, Montana back in December 2010 here. In reviewing your recent contributions I also noticed that the text of Four Dances Natural Area was entirely copied and pasted from the two sources you cited. One of them was public domain which would be okay had you appropriately attributed the source instead of just listing it as a reference, but the other is copyrighted making it another copyright violation. I have cleaned that article and replaced the copyrighted text with additional usable public domain text.
You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
Also in light of these two instances of copying and pasting from other sources into Wikipedia articles I have to ask: are there more instances of edits such as these that you've made that should be checked in order to see if there are further copyright problems or missing attribution? I'm afraid my higher concern right now is with stopping any further copyright violations and with finding any older ones which need to be fixed. I'm cleaning the Billings, Montana page and noticed that you added a Lot of copypaste information to the article. You've had issues in the past based on your talk, so are you aware of our copyright policies? If more's found we'll have to open up a copyright investigation against you. Sara, a user tip: Don't copy and paste ANYTHING. Let me suggest an idea: Collect the useful snippets into a sandbox, like I did here. I put the copy and paste inside quotations so I know it's a direct quote, I add the source on the spot, and then I remove snippets as I work on the article, rewriting things into my own words.
