Pride and Prejudice

Hello. In answer to your queries:

Although I did get the reviews online, it wasn't from a publicly-accessible site - I found them in the InfoTrack database, which is a big searchable database of British newspaper content which you can get access to if you are a member of a British library. However, it should be easy enough to use it to find some more reviews from the time - I shall try and get hold of a few for you, with the appropriate citation details.

As for adaption and adaptation - as far as I am aware "adaption" isn't a real word, although I think it is quite a common spelling mistake, even by native speakers! "Adaptation" should always be used.

Regarding the pictures... I can't say I have any particular preference! I am rubbish on the visual side of things, sorry... Have very little aesthetic sense at all! Angmering (talk) 20:22, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Starship

Well, in my opinion, whomever said that "starship" is too much like Star Trek is simply wrong. "Starship" is a generic term used for any ship that travels amongst the stars. If it were simply a ship that stayed inside a solar system (aka, not lightspeed-capable: the F-301/302 and Death Gliders), then "spaceship" is appropriate. But for a general article containing multiple ships, the majority of which are lightspeed-capable, "starship" is by far the most appropriate term ( are the only which aren't hyperspace-capable). Star Trek does not dictate the naming of all other sci-fi terms, and I firmly believe that "starship" should be used over "spaceship" or (ack) "starcraft". Huntster (t@c) 23:10, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Article mergers

Hey Sgeureka, nice job on the merges, as I've mentioned before. However, I notice that two critical things were not performed. One, make sure that for any images that you retain from the merged article, you update the fair-use rationales so that they link to the current page...else the bots that roam will mark them for deletion as missing a valid rationale. Second, when you merge multiple pages into one, leaving the original talk pages behind, make sure you link to those talk pages on the new page's talk, as I've done at Talk:Ancient starships in Stargate. This is just so people can look back and see previous discussions. Huntster (t@c) 01:40, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll keep the talk page notifications in mind (in fact, I am thinking of adding {{merged}} to all the SG lists, which may solve this "problem" as well). About the images, as far as I know, image bots do recognize redirects, and I always fix double-redirects when I merge articles, so everything should be fine. – sgeureka tc 08:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Eh, maybe they've gotten smarter, but I know they didn't used to. Well, just keep an eye on the talk pages, in case any notifications pop up. Huntster (t@c) 08:32, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Zachary Jaydon

There seems to be confusion as to the relation between Jaydon D. Paull & Zachary Jaydon. They are one in the same. A large percentage of performers/artists don't go by their legal name. Any notability no matter which of the two names they are credited under are still assertions of nobility under either or both. Many people are eliminating anything that can be user uploaded or changed. I agree with the principle of this in general, however, videos, magazine scans and the such are irrefutable proof of events or facts no matter where they came from. If there is a video of Mr. Jaydon playing with a National Rock Band, you can't say that because it was put up by a "user" that the fact doesn't remain.

While every sentence of this Wiki Article isn't strongly sourced, it doesn't mean he doesn't meat notability requirements for an article. I have scanned and uploaded quite a few of my sources at: http://zacharyjaydonwiki.blogspot.com/

Also, the following was taken directly from WP:N#MUSIC:

Criteria for composers and lyricists

For composers, songwriters, librettists or lyricists:

  1. Has credit for writing or co-writing either lyrics or music for a notable composition.

Jaydon has written material on several Multi-Platinum records, including *NSYNC, Craig David, Ryan Cabrera and others. These WERE songs that were included on these albums. They weren't scrapped, or obscure B-Sides. These were songs included on official releases by MAJOR artists. He obviously has notable talent if these artists are choosing to work with him. This is obviously an arguable issue, but given the success of the albums his work has been featured on, it seems at the VERY least, notable. These credits are easily verifiable here:

([1], [2], [3])

The 3 above sources are all from www.ASCAP.com which is one of the most trusted sources used on Wiki for Songwriter Credit Verification.

([4]) also shows from a VERY large, Fortune 500 companies website with information on Close To Home and confirming Mr. Jaydon's Songwriting Credits. This website would be considered reliable on any front, and also independent of the subject himself.

I wanted to let you know I'm extremely grateful for all the comments you made during the FAC. It became frustrating at the end when the users who tipped the balance to oppose refused to elaborate on why they feel it wasn't up to standard, but I feel your comments have made the article better. Thanks! Redfarmer (talk) 15:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

user categorization

For categorizing your userpage, can't you use {{DEFAULTSORT}}? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 17:25, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't know. I thought about it, but I figured I had so few categories anyway that it wouldn't matter. – sgeureka tc 17:27, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
If this is a question of whether or not DEFAULTSORT works for userpages, then yes, it does. I use it on my own page. It would likely be best placed at the very top of a userpage, to catch any userboxen that may be scattered about. Huntster (t@c) 05:19, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Pride and Prejudice

Hello. I think your work on the Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV serial) article deserves a lot of gushing, praise and congratulations, so here it is: *gushing*, *praise*, *congratulations* Bradley0110 (talk) 16:14, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I am glad you liked it so far (the article can only get better). Thank you for the kind words. – sgeureka tc 16:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
I cannot believe how much the article has improved since the last time I saw it, so I thought I stopped by and thank you but it looks like someone beat me too it! Rollback and beyond

Hello! I've been looking into your contributions, and I think that you have an exemplary temperament, so I added rollback capability to your account so that you can fight vandalism more effectively. If you don't want it, that's totally cool; just drop me a line and I'll take it off. Useful pages to take a look at are WP:ROLLBACK and Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback for practice.

I've also taken a look at your general editing stats, and I think you have a good spread over the namespaces. You don't have a lot of action in "traditional" vandal fighting areas like AIV, but given the current trend at RfA, I think a slightly more unorthodox candidate would be great. I'm really impressed by your work in the mainspace and on WP:SU, and I think that you would do well as an admin. Have you considered running before? I'd very much like to discuss it with you, would you contact me on IRC when you have a chance? If you're not an IRCer, drop me an email. Thanks! GlassCobra 18:35, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

I emailed you. – sgeureka tc 19:29, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Pride and Prej

Wotcha mate, pip pip, tally-ho! Yes, I'm English and I'll have a comb through the article over the weekend. Can I ask a favour of you as a WP:TV member? Could you step in at The Deal (2003 film), as there is currently a dispute between me and another editor that is running the risk of boiling over into an edit war. I have suggested to him that neither of us edit the article until we get a third-party comment. Bradley0110 (talk) 22:00, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll certainly have a look for you later on today. Sorry I never got around to looking up those reviews for you! Angmering (talk) 09:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I've now been through it — it seems excellent to me, you should be very proud of your work. I have made a few tweaks and fixes here and there, but nothing major. Angmering (talk) 10:23, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I had a look through the article yesterday and agree with Angmering--it is excellent. There are no outstanding Br Eng concerns in the article, however, you might want to check some of the wikilinked names as many are repeated throughout the article. Additionally "producer Sue Birtwistle" and "director Simon Langton" appears a heck of a lot--readers would be expected to remember who they are! I look forward to supporting this at FAC! :-) Bradley0110 (talk) 10:13, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Fixed that (I feel pretty indifferent about the linking, but that's quick). Thank you for your read-through. :-) I still have one image/FUR to fix, and I am still thinking about replacing one source. The FAC will start after I have made up my mind in a few days. – sgeureka tc 11:56, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

first, "should" is not a law but a recommendation -- second, the plot is complicated enough and deserves 1100 words imho -- third, if you're not happy with this, please stop to play the cop and correct the text yourself - kernitou talk 05:37, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

fine, 796 words, you're a chief! thanks kernitou talk 11:52, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Pride & Prejudice (2005 film) lead

I know exactly what you mean about the "choppy" quality. I've found it everywhere on WP and I really don't know how to fight it. How do you make 5 unrelated facts sound like they're related? Anyway, I'd be happy to take a look at the lead and see how it reads to me. I'm a little cramped today, but tomorrow's no problem. (That's my east-coast US tomorrow).

BTW, did I see something just above about an 1100-word plot? Whoa! I hope that's an exaggeration. The MoS says 400–700; and definitely not above 900 unless you've got a really good reason. For an FAC, I don't think I'd want to try stretching the guideline too much. Anyway, have a great day! --AnnaFrance (talk) 17:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Just took a good look at the lead section (the TV serial, not the above-named film). I think it's brilliant. By far the best I've read here so far. Only two things I would even think of changing:
I would prefer that the BBC "air" the episodes rather than "screen" them.
More importantly, the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph doesn't seem to work all that well. If you remove extraneous words you have: "tells the story of daughters when a man and his friend move into the neighborhood". Would it be better if it told the "story of daughters and what happens when"?
That's absolutely all I can find to talk about. Except that the bit about Firth in a wet shirt is a hoot. :) Have a great day. --AnnaFrance (talk) 17:11, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Stargate Templates

Hey, what do you think of this attempt to combine the stargate races and technology templates since technology in stargate now redirects to races in stargate and whatnot. --88wolfmaster (talk) 04:01, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Interesting, this gives me an idea. I'll get back to you in a couple of days. I was afraid of that - i had used an older version when i should have just started from scrap. Can't wait to see what your idea is. --88wolfmaster (talk) 04:13, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
(Hope you still have my talkpage on your watchlist.) What do you think? No more other templates would be necessary, the layout is understandable both in read- and edit-mode, and rearranging (both for expansion and merging) is easy. – sgeureka tc 18:52, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Brilliant - very easy to read, and pretty straightforward to edit. i went ahead and made a minor edit (just dropping all the Stargates) but looks great.--88wolfmaster (talk) 19:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Jane Austen

Please don't be discouraged by the "oppose" I lodged over at the Pride and Prejudice FAC. I thought the article was quite good - just incomplete. I feel sure that you will be able to add those sections without a problem. I was also wondering if you would be interested in working on the Jane Austen in popular culture article? Simmaren and I have been working slowly on the Jane Austen article, a Reception history of Jane Austen article, and we have several other articles in draft form, for example, one on the styles and themes of Austen's novels. All of our notes are online as well. We have nothing on the popular culture front, however, and could really use the help. You have obviously started digging into this research and we would appreciate any assistance you could offer. Maria is working on expanding the "Adaptations" section of the Reception history of Jane Austen. I'm sure she would appreciate help as well! Welcome to the growing circle of Janeites on Wikipedia! Awadewit (talk) 17:19, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Several FACs have taught me to take "opposes" as constructive criticism and not as discouragement. I still have tons of unused notes in my userspace (and the Making-of book) for themes and cinematic style, which I simply didn't include because I needed to decide on a cut-off point somewhere. Shouldn't take me longer than three days to come up with something acceptable.
I haven't really decided on my next GA/FA-worthy project yet, but I am not familiar with Austen (beyond P&P and some of its film/TV adaptations) or with literary criticism in the first place. I may be of some help as far as Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV serial), Pride & Prejudice (2005 film) and Bridget Jones goes, but then I am becoming useless quickly. Sorry. I can see what I can do, but I can't and won't make any promises. – sgeureka tc 17:54, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Those are excellent projects and I hope you bring them all up to FA! Awadewit (talk) 17:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I wrote a new essay with the shortcut WP:DISCUSSCRUFT. This is an essay that is supposed to explain the word "cruft" in neutral terms and promote intelligent discussion about the cruft problem on wikipedia. I know there are already many essays about cruft on wikipedia. But I hope you might be able to give it a read. Perhaps it can be copy-edited or improved in some way. I hope you find it useful. Carl Davis

Forgive my indulgence in putting that claim in the P and P article. Don't you agree that it's fantastic music? I wonder whether he might have a line in the infobox (do other TV series ever have that in their infobox, I wonder)?

I guess I though you might have access to the book listed in the refs. The article on him at WP, I'm embarrassed to say, I inserted a similar claim in. To make amends, I've written to his office (Threefoldmusic) via his website—

[[5]]

to congratulate him on P and P (13 years after the event!) and to ask whether he does feel it's his greatest achievement. I'll let him know of your article. I don't expect a reply in the lifetime of your nomination, though. Tony (talk) 15:56, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

I must admit in shame that I have never heard of Carl Davis before watching P&P, although I am a big fan of instrumental music in general (classical music, movie scores, but mainly scores and electronica like from Vangelis and Air). My search for your claim is coming up empty; nothing usable on google books for "carl davis" pride prejudice, and I stopped looking after the first 300 GHits (I only found [6] [7] and [8], which at best received some comments about P&P, but nothing to support your claim). I doubt my library has anything on him. Davis is good though; I have the P&P theme in my mp3 playlist. {{Infobox television}} has a parameter for |composer= , so he can be added. – sgeureka tc 18:02, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Couple concerns

What do you think would be the appropriate page title for Chi-Chi and Tōya, respectively? And how do I deal with the pipe link entry on the bottom of Seta (disambiguation)? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 20:53, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

The title of Chi-Chi is alright. Tōya should be moved to Toya since most entries are spelled "Toya" and because hardly anyone in the Western world can produce the letter "ō" on his keyboard anyway. Last point, I think a completely different article gives the best information:
or something like that. – sgeureka tc 21:23, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
First two taken care of. Any other ideas for the Seta dab? I was thinking of coming up with a redirect per WP:PIPING. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Then I'd go with Search for Extraterrestrial Artifacts instead of the initialism. But you'd have to decide on the redirect target. – sgeureka tc 21:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

HP characters and Notability

Hey there!! I want to invite you to this discussion regarding the articles of Neville Longbottom (talk) and Luna Lovegood (talk), whose characters are important within the series, but have failed to meet the criteria for Notability: popular culture references, reliable secondary sources (not including interviews with portrayers or book reviews), and impact on the real world. If you take a look at Harry Potter or Severus Snape's article, you might get an idea of whtat I'm talking about. Also, some other important and popular characters in the series like Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin or Cedric Diggory have been merged. That's why I would like to know your opinion as a Mergist Wikipedian in Neville or Luna's talk page :) Cheers! --LøЯd ۞pεth 03:48, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

I only ever played the first two Sonic games on the Master System 2 as a kid (ages ago), and I never watched the TV series or the read the mangas. I therefore can't help and have to leave the merging to others. But thanks for the notice. – sgeureka tc 18:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
So, should I just go ahead and merge what you suggested in the AfD? --Happy editing! Sincerely, Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 19:02, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I just noted in the AfD what I would merge. I'll leave it to others to decide how much of it and where it should be merged. I don't feel strongly about the details. – sgeureka tc 20:04, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay, then I'll just go ahead and merge. --Happy editing! Sincerely, Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 02:54, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: Grammar

Hey there. The first one is "SG-1 encounters someone", because in this instance, SG-1 is treated as a single entity. The second one is "the SG-1 team encounters someone", for the same reason. If the wording was "the team members of SG-1...", then it would be the singular 'encounter', because the people on the team are being referred to individually, or at least, it can be thought of that way (actual grammar rules elude me at the moment). Change your mind

Can you please change your mind on merging Threads (SG-1 episode). This episode is one of the most important episode of the series and I saw what happened to most of the other SG-1 episode articles, merging didn't make it better, it made it worse, so please change your mind on Threads. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 13:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I haven't merged "Threads", and I have no intention to do so either (for the reasons you just mentioned). But the article still lacks established notability (that's why it is tagged as such), so someone else may propose a merger at any time. I saw the episode mentioned in a few gateworld interviews [9], and I expect some genre magazines like TV Zone [10] and some books [11] to have covered/reviewed this episode. Plus, two actors received award recognition for this ep. It's a week claim of notability to keep this article around for a while longer, but I don't know if this article can survive the scrutiny of WP:NOT#PLOT enforcers forever. – sgeureka tc 14:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Please change your mind on Redemption as well, the episode list is really useless. I just use it to try to find any episodes that still have they own article so I can read it and get the infomation I'm actually looking for. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 13:33, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

You have noticed the "SG Wiki" link next to each episode title, right? Because that's where all the old articles were transwikied. Either way, you can save the Redemption article easily by adding sufficient production info from the audio commentary (Martin Wood is good with that). Have a look at Window of Opportunity (Stargate SG-1) and Zero Hour (Stargate SG-1) for episode articles that rely on info from audio commentaries and are pretty much deletion-proof now. – sgeureka tc 14:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Stubs, really?

You've just marked articles like Jack O'Neill as stubs - that doesn't seem right to me... --Tango (talk) 00:07, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Already fixed it when I noticed my mistake (I may have missed one or two articles though). It's start-class now, as strictly speaking, most of the articles are nowhere written with WAF and OR in mind, and don't even establish notability. I am rating according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Stargate/Articles for quality, and per judgement for importance. I'll leave a note at the wikiproject later so that details can be hammered out where my judgement was wrong. – sgeureka tc 00:12, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
...and obviously I didn't fix it. I'll fix it now. – sgeureka tc 00:14, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't see how it could be possible to be an "active" member after all the merges and deletions.

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.

I appreciate your concerns about the ease of a "Trojan horse" candidacy. Especially in the wake of the Archtransit affair, it makes sense not to trust a guy who just turns up out of the blue and isn't revealing much of his past. I'm harmless, but there's no way for you to know that. I appreciate the consideration and hope to work with you in the future. Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:30, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Stargate allusions

Hi, I see you deleted several allusions and references that Stargate SG-1 used (too old, too much space taken). I think it's too bad just to suppress this like that, wouldn't it better to create a page dedicated to those ? Diegowar (talk) 15:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I removed them (as noted in the edit summary) as OR (WP:Original research). I've seen at least two television articles that listed allusions and references (I think one of them was for Lost) deleted, so I'd say creating a new page for allusions is not such a good idea. However, I don't know whether WP:Notability was the problem leading to deletion, or the lack of WP:Reliable sources and thus original research again. I know that the producers have admitted in the audio commentaries and other DVD features (do you remember which?) that there are allusions to (at least) Star Wars, The Simpsons, and The Wizard of Oz, so if we can source these claims in the article first, that would be a big step forward. – sgeureka tc 16:36, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, for The Wizard of Oz and The Simpsons, I think both of these titles are literally said in Stargate (can't remember exactly where though). For Star Wars, same thing, but I do remember the episode : it's in "Ascension" (season five), when Jack and Teal'c went to Carter's to eat a pizza and watch Star Wars... Anyway, thanks for explaining me what OR was (I didn't know). Now I understand better, I think I'll just think to it again if I find a source one of these days... until then, I won't be complaining :) ! Diegowar (talk) 19:13, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

This one is uncategorized, what should go there? And oddly enough, it serves as a primary topic for Vincent (disambiguation). Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:37, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Vincent is obviously a {{surname}} page. I am not aware of any wikirule for how to deal with such a situation, but I'd simply swap the two pages, moving Vincent to Vincent (surname), and Vincent (disambiguation) to Vincent. Whether to give dab pages more dominance than name pages may be one of the cases that is better discussed in coordination with WP:D and WikiProject Anthroponymy. – sgeureka tc 03:51, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Guess I'll leave it alone. But I would like to know the categorization format. Should I use Yusuke as a precedent? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 16:21, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Except that that's a given-name page, yes, looks good. – sgeureka tc 16:33, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
How's that? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 16:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
You got it perfectly right. – sgeureka tc 16:43, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
...Except, in the intro, it says the surname is derived from Latin. (My surname expertise lies in my native tongue, though, so others will know better.) – sgeureka tc 16:46, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Should I place {{fact}} tags? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 16:57, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
If you doubt the truthfulness of that information, then yes. – sgeureka tc 05:05, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Bots and interwikis

You got an answer here. I'll ask to some bot owner if this solution is correct. Have a nice day. --Giuseppe (talk) 06:28, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

I have resumed (and finished(?)) the discussion there. – sgeureka tc 14:44, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I left a note to the Stargate wikiproject on it.wiki, now they are aware of the problem. --Giuseppe (talk) 22:02, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

What was the criterion on having templates on dabs, like this one? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:20, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

I guess you mean the Portal template? I have never come across such a case, but I think this should be listed in the main article, not on dab pages. – sgeureka tc 22:39, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

P&P

Congratulations on your hard work in getting Pride and Prejudice promoted to FA. Now, dare I drive you mad by informing you that the shirt scene influenced a scene in a major new TV series? I daren't add it myself in case I ruin the article:

"At script stage we had discussed if we dared nod to the famous Colin Firth scene of Darcy in the lake invented by Andrew Davies. Courageously Guy went for it. In our version Amanda (Jemima Rooper), our modern-day heroine, asks Darcy if he will recreate this iconic moment, and he obliges. But how to do it?
The first opportunity to schedule the scene was in late October and it was freezing. If Elliot Cowan, our superb Mr Darcy, caught a cold, how would we cope for the rest of the shoot?
The crew assembled, the water was tested and the bottom of the lake checked for anything unpleasant. Elliot was dressed in a wet suit from the waist down, with a long white shirt spritzed with water on his top half, to give the full wet Colin Firth look. The stuntmen were ready, and costume were standing by with foil blankets and a hot shower.
We had a few takes from different angles but only one go at total immersion. The trouble with period shooting is that all the cast are in expensive wigs, and we could only afford one each. Elliot could only submerge once; the sun came out and a little mist ran across the top of the water. Sometimes the gods smile on location shooting."

Bradley0110 (talk) 19:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

I've put it on my todo list. Not having seen this scene (I'll check out youtube), I don't know yet how much prominence to give it in the article. – sgeureka tc 06:25, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Smallville

No, I don't have that stuff. I saved those pages you scanned. If you could, I'd take everything from Smallville Stories to Raya's Resurrection (if you could). The last two don't look like they'd have any encyclopedic information in them. If you could, because I'm going out of town and I don't want you to have to hold onto these scans for longer than you need to, would you mind emailing me the scans? (It might take a few emails because of the size of the images). Let me know (I won't be leaving town till this afternoon sometime, so, if it's cool then I'll give you the address I'd like you to send it to). Thanks for looking out for me with those other pages.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 11:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

That's cool, I'll be out of town till Monday anyway. Let me know when you put a batch in and I'll let you know when I save them (this way you can go ahead and get rid of them).  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:34, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

LGRC

What do you think of this?Kww (talk) 21:46, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I've known these plans of him for about a week, and it's within his rights. I somewhat respected him for doing some good article work at the beginning (unlike a couple of other vocal inclusionists), but I am not surprised that his extreme views (and his expressions thereof) earned him enemies that made harmonious wiki collaboration absolutely impossible. (I am aware of his receiving off-wiki harrassment and of yesterday's ANI thread but I choose not to comment on either.) – sgeureka tc 06:52, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
And another kick in the shin for AGF. He won't be able to earn my trust again. – sgeureka tc 10:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Re:Renaming...

Oh. Odd. Well it seems OhanaUnited for some reason made the duplicate (North Carolina hurricanes) a while back, and then replaced the original with it in various places. But the original is correct, so I shall bring the topic to requested moves, citing it as an error on the part of one of the editors, and once the move has been made, then we can go about fixing the links - rst20xx (talk) 15:45, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I will be reviewing your article, Radek Zelenka, for GA and will leave comments on the review comments page. I don't know what "alerted" you to come here, ;-) but thanks. – sgeureka tc 16:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
I first learned of your efforts when coming across List of Stargate SG-1 episodes - a featured list. Although I don't have the energy to do a series with as many episodes as SG-1, I've tried to emulate your work on Talk:List of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles episodes by advocating mergers.
The thought to award the barnstar occurred to me when I came across your work on Talk:Technology in Stargate. I already thought you were outdoing yourself with the episode list, but to learn that you're also doing it for all the technology lists is truly amazing. You have an unparalleled patience and dedication and you deserve to be recognized for it Misterdiscreet (talk) 03:46, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Maybe modesty is out of place here, but I didn't turn the SG-1 LoE into a Featured List - I just wanted it to keep that status. The merger was merely my attempt to apply wikipedia policies and guidelines to fiction articles (have you seen User:Bignole's kick-ass Smallville articles?) and not be a hippocrit for/about my own favorite fiction. Thanks go to User:Yzx for performing the final tech mergers because fictional technology is not really my area of interest. But it's nice to hear that peaceful low-key quality drives also leave an impression in other editors at times. :-) – sgeureka tc 21:55, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Foxtrot chalkboard ft031003.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Foxtrot chalkboard ft031003.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there will be a problem with having both. Title cards are pretty much "freebies" when it comes to NFCC. I've never been a fan of having DVD covers in the infobox of TV series articles--especially covers like the LIA one that have cherry-picked comments from newspaper critics on them. Still, it's up to you, since you're the one working to improve the article (I only watched the first episode--I couldn't stomach another hour of such watered-down ITV dross). Bradley0110 (talk) 09:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

House

Sure, but it's about the episodes I personally liked, so if you want universal fan favorites you should ask some more users. Here's a list:

Season 1
Season 2
Season 3

(my favorite season)

Note that I haven't seen every excisting House episode (I've missed a big part of the second season), so there could be fantastic episodes that I haven't listed here.

P.S.: If you're interested in expanding House related articles, you could sign the proposal for a House WikiProject.--Music26/11 14:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Polar bears and German IPA

Hi, Sgeureka, I hope I'm not bugging you, but I have a favor to ask. I remembered that you were very helpful in German spelling/phrasing at Knut (polar bear) when it was at FAC, and now I have a similar issue: Flocke is now at FAC, and Giggy rightfully asked for some help in how to pronounce the bear's name. I added an IPA note in the lead, but I'm not exactly sure it's correct; the pronunciation examples are German words, so I had to guess. Would you mind taking a quick look to see if the characters are correct? Or am I just completely wrong? I've mainly heard it pronounced "flock-uh" (one keeper calls her "flock-ee", but he was a little goofy; perhaps that was just German baby-talk?), so that's what I was trying to write in IPA. Thanks for any help! I need to find a Spanish polar bear next time... María (habla conmigo) 13:29, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

The pronunction is ˈflɔkə , which is basically FLOCK-uh (rhymes with "locket" without the "t") (strike that, my dictionary says "locket" is pronounced "lɔkit" rather than "lɔkət"). – sgeureka tc 14:39, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks! I really appreciate it. María (habla conmigo) 14:32, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

A bit of everything

Hey there. First up, I think I have finished Born Free (Dexter). Tell me what you think, and please reply with regards to the screenshot. Second, I know the episodes of Veronica Mars are going to be merged soon, but I want some more time. I have been working on List of Veronica Mars episodes, and am ready to submit it at FLC. Could you please list anything that needs improvement? Thanks, Corn.u.co.pia / Disc.us.sion 07:17, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

OK, I think I am ready to take List of Veronica Mars episodes to FLC. Are there any remaining comments with the prose and tense, or is everything alright? Corn.u.co.pia / Disc.us.sion 03:51, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
I'll have the review finished by the end of the day. – sgeureka tc 09:08, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Office specials

Hold off on proposing a merge of The Office Christmas specials. I'll give it a brush-up over the next couple of days. Bradley0110 (talk) 13:48, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem. That's why I only tagged for notability and not for immediate merging. – sgeureka tc 15:07, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

The Shrine

Hello, since you're an active member of the Stargate WikiProject, I would like to have your attention on "The Shrine", since I just wrote it. I was just wondering if the article has enough real-world content for it to stay, since I added a certain amount of information regarding the production and reception. Thanks -- Matthew R Dunn (talk) 16:05, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

My rule of thumb is two, preferably three paragraphs of non-trivial real-world information, and the episode article is mostly fine (so, yes, "The Shrine" seems fine). You may be able to get more real-world information from gateworld and the Atlantis script-coordinator's blog. If I wasn't already busy with a lot (too many) other wikipedia projects and also real-life, I'd promise to help get the article to GA, but I really need to learn to stop biting off more than I can chew. :-) – sgeureka tc 16:54, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

House's Head

Hi, thanks for passing the page. My compliments on how you slimmed down the synopsis. I think I took care of the remaining points, I would appreciate it if you would take a quick look, but don't feel obligated. I think I'll try for FA candidatecy in the next few days. --Music26/11 13:19, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

I think the article needs at least a couple more days for extensive FA-copyediting/finetuning, but I'll be pretty busy with real-life until Monday (and I still have to finish two open peer reviews). Depending how long you want to wait, I can certainly help out later. User:David Fuchs, however, seems like a big House fan and has much prose and FA experience, so you should approach him. – sgeureka tc 19:57, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Watchlist bolding - update

Hi Sgeureka, remamber your VPT question about bolding large positive additions? In a great case of whine and ye shall receive, it is now integrated into the MediaWiki software, apparently by User:Happy-melon (and FunPika and ^demon) [12][13]. You can test it by just disabling the addOnloadHook for the custom bold function as I did in my monobook.js (and the usual purging). Franamax (talk) 07:22, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. – sgeureka tc 09:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
