templates

fyi, the "country in eurovision" template adds every article that has the template to the category "country in the eurovision song contest" automatically so you dont need to add it yourself. Also, you dont need to pipe the link with the |2000 for example because they will be in order anyway. Grk1011 (talk) 16:17, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

categories

If a singer is in say "Greek eurovision song contest entrants" they should NOT be in "eurovision song contest entrants" also since the greek one is a subcategory of the other. Then the page will be in the same category twice. It's ok to respond. :) Grk1011 (talk) 16:37, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

I looked back at the category and we try to avoid a page being double categoried (page in the main cat and a sub cat). But looking back at the entrants, i think i like that better. The "country in eurovision song contest" AUTOMATICALLY adds the cat "Country in the eurovision song contest" and in my opinion, piping the year so it sorts by year doesnt look as good. Hey, try to remember to add references to articles when you add information. Like on Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, you need to show where you got the date from. Its pretty easy to find an article on Oikotimes or ESCToday so if you want to look at Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 you can see how the refs are done (Copy paste and put right info in). Cleanup Tags

National Finals

We were thinking about merging all separate national final pages into the country in the eurovision song contest year pages under the national final category. For example putting Festivali I Këngës 43 into the national final section of Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. What is your opinion?Grk1011 (talk) 21:56, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Yea, that's fine. My problem is that I don't want to see pages with just a link to the final's instead of actually describing it. There should be a few paragraphs taken from the contest's page, but maybe the semi-final charts and such can stay there and just say so and so won the semi and went on to the final with a table of only the finalists in the national final section. They should be like Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 which was nominated for GA status. As far as I know, that is our best example. Grk1011 (talk) 22:53, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

  • There is currently a backlog of assessments; the project's assessment rate stands at 35.1%. Please add {{EurovisionNotice}} to the talk pages of all Eurovision related articles if it is missing and read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess the articles as well.
  • The project main page is the in middle of a major revamping. To get a sneak peak of the work in progress, see the draft.
  • In the coming days/weeks, instructions for the use of all Eurovision templates and descriptions for the layouts of pages will be up and running. As of now, a few templates are already complete: see {{ESC National Year}} and {{Infobox ESC entry}}.
  • Remember to source all information you add to pages or else it may be removed. ESCToday and Oikotimes are great places to find information.

Welcome to the first issue of the WikiProject Eurovision newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

About two weeks ago, I was bold and decided that our entire WikiProject needed to be reorganized. I am seeking to put into effect new guidelines on page layouts, templates, and basically to make all related articles consistent. Part of this reorganization included improving our assessment department since one didn't really exist before and completely reformatting the main page.

Also, it is my opinion that the project be renamed "WikiProject Eurovision Song Contest" and that the Junior Eurovision Song Contest be officially included. I believe that the Eurovision Dance Contest should be separate since it shares nothing in common aside from the EBU.

We also need to work on bringing new members into this project; especially during these months when not much is going on in the Eurovision world. If you would like to invite someone to join the WikiProject, our invitation template on their talk page. Now is when we need to get our project's pages up to par for next year's contest and make everything as accurate and in depth as possible. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for the project on either my talk or the project's.

Song titles

Hey, if you ever see a song like "Reflection (Eurovision song)" use the move tag to move it to song name (song) or if that is taken song name (artist song). Eurovision should never be there. Grk1011 (talk) 13:05, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Yugoslavia

I think that Sims2aholic8 has not read the debate and the contradiction in terms of all of the sources that Greekboy and Grk1011 (who think like they ought to be a one person).
"Yugoslavia was formally dissolved in 1992 (de facto dissolved in 1991 with no leaders representing it). The country comprised the area of the present-day independent states of Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia."
That appearance in 1992 under the name Yugoslavia was not for the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia but for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). Why do you think Serbia and Montenegro first appeared in 2004? Because they were under United Nations and European Union sanctions. That appearance in 1992 was under the plain flag of navy blue, white, bright red flag of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. IT was most certainly not under the flag of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which has the same flag colors but with the red five pointed star in the middle.
This should end, but not with the result that Greekboy and Grk1011 want.

Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1993

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix

Good job on the history, though a lot of that should be on Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest instead. You also need to add sources and keep in mind that Denmark is not plural: "Denmark was" not "Denmark were". If you don't know the formatting for the refs I can put them in for you, I'll also do some research when I get home from work. Good then, and one more question. I'm experimenting with a new song in esc template that will automatically change all the ones in use from {{Infobox ESC entry}} to {{Infobox ESC entry (test template)}}. Its basically more organized and will look better when combined with the singles infobox. Anything wrong with it that you can see? Color, fields? Just to let you know, the |first and |last field in the source ref is also right as is the |author field. So there was no real need to fix it like you did at [3]. :p BTW, this is a great ref tool that I use. reftool It is available under "my preferences" and then "gadgets". From the Members

Welcome to the second issue of the WikiProject Eurovision newsletter! This newsletter has been quite a success so far and I hope it continues to be so. I hope to rotate as much as possible who writes this "From the Members" section each month so everyone gets a chance to contribute.

The process of fully reorganising this project is still under way. A compromise is being formed to re-name this project WikiProject Eurovision Song Contest, but allow it to include the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as it is similar. The Eurovision Dance Contest will have its own project created simultaneously. I personally agree with this proposal, a final decision has not been made yet however.

Issue relating to Eurovision can be complicated and disagreements do form. This was particularly shown in the aftermath of Kosovo's declaration of independence and the creation of a Kosovo in the Eurovision Song Contest article, there is still discussion on the talk page over its inclusion. A further disagreement was formed over a proposed merger to Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest. This has fortunately been resolved by the Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal as recorded at Talk:Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest/Archive 1. Hopefully future disagreements will also be resolved in such a peaceful way.

Proposed deletion of Not Crazy After All

List of top ranking countries

Hi there. I've just reverted your edits as they miss the point of the article. Rather than by number of wins, the list is about overall performance. Ireland has only ranked in the top two 11 times, compared to the UK's 20. Statistically they are the top performing country, with Ireland in 3rd. Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008

I copy-edited the beginning of the article stopping before the songs. Try to source the descriptions of them, you got them somewhere. Also, I have a better idea for the results, see Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. We should have the results written out instead of just showing a results table. Welcome to the third edition of the WikiProject Eurvision newsletter! This newsletter is surely catching on, and I'm sure that if we continue to rotate the editors' section as much as possible, everyone'll get a chance to contribute and it'll definitely be more diverse.

The project is still in need of re-organising. Nothing has happened in the form of splitting the project between the song and dance contests in over a month, and I feel that we really need to push forward with this. To add your comments just leave a message in the talk page Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Project Scope.

Throughout September, a lot of things have happened in relation to the Eurovision Song Contest 2009; the announcement of the return of the jury into the final was the biggest news. However, more news appeared, such as the Dutch representative being announced, as well as more countries announcing their participation at the contest. Before long the national finals around Europe will start, and the countdown will be on to 16 May.

This feature allows you to rapidly revert vandalism and other highly inappropriate edits in one click, which you might find helpful for Eurovision articles which can be the subject of vandalism. Sweden 2008

Please don't change the tables again. We have used these tables from the Swedish Wikipedia for a reason... they have more info and they look much better and clearer. I have started a Wikipedia:Request for comment on this topic at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on ESCKaz reliability. This discussion originates from questions on the reliability of the ESCKaz website and if it should be used in Eurovision articles on Wikipedia. It has now being extended to fully review all sources used in articles covered by WikiProject Eurovision, including ESCToday and Oikotimes. This is a very important issue to the project as sourcing is a key part of articles, and consensus needs to be reached on which sources should be used when, where and how. This discussion however has so far lacked a wide range of editor participation, and as you have listed yourself as a member of WikiProject Eurovision I invite you to add your thoughts. In particular more input is needed from editors which have a high level of experience with relevant guidelines/policies such as Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability, and who have up until now stayed outside this debate, though all contributions are welcome. Project News
  • More people need to reply to questions on talk pages. Other users need our help!
  • The discussion of what to include in the project is still ongoing. Tell us your thoughts at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Project Scope.
  • The backlog of assessments in the project is still ongoing, with a large number of articles not being rated. If you see articles without the {{EurovisionNotice}} template on the article's talk page, please add it, or read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess the articles as well.
  • Instructions for the use of all Eurovision templates and descriptions for the layouts of pages are still in the works.
  • Remember to source all information you add to pages or else it may be removed and always use an edit summary so other users know why you are adding or removing information.
Eurovision News
  • Malta announced the names of the songs taking part in its national final.
  • Hadise will represent Turkey and will have complete control over the selection of her song.
  • Andorra and Romania announced the format of their national finals.
  • Bulgaria's Be A Star has gone into full swing with the first monthly selection and its corresponding heats held in October.
  • The songs of Melodifestivalen 2009 were announced along with the contest's schedule of rounds.
  • Your Country Needs You will be the new selection process for the UK entry.
Member News
  • The project currently has 53 members, 27 (just over 50%) of which are considered active, so let's improve that to at least 75%!
  • Want to invite new members? Place our invitation template on the talk page of anyone you would like to invite to our project.

From the Members

Welcome to the fourth edition of the WikiProject Eurvision newsletter! As the contest gets into full swing, more and more editors will come and edit the project's articles. It is important that we not only make sure that the correct information is added, but try to help the users who added the information if possible. We learn through our mistakes, so leave a reminder on their talk page.

November is unique in that it will have two newsletters going out. This one along with a November supplement that will recap what happened in November. We decided to switch to an end of the month format so say the October Newsletter summarizes what happened in October, which it doesn't in its current first day of the month delivery. By December, the newsletter will come out at the end of every month.

So far I am very happy with how the project is going about four months after its reorganization. We get into arguments here and there, but members' opinions and comments are crucial to the project's existence. They keep us on our toes and help us continue to be a great source of Eurovision history.

Sorry that this issue is a little late, I've been busy ;)
