Yes, we'll all breathe easier with you-know-who gone. And you're exactly right, I wanted the Category of Wikipedia userboxes link handy but do not want to be a member of the category. Of course, I may not need it anymore anyway, it's probably about time I cleaned up that section of my user page! TAnthony 20:20, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Golf

Wikiproject Golf
This is a "newsletter" of sorts. It's designed to let you know whats going on with the WikiProject. Contact me, Grovermj, if there is anything i could improve, or if you would like to write the newsletter yourself, because i'm certainly not skilled and experienced at this. Call it a test run.
  • Well, it's been a month since the project has started, and 4 new articles have been made by editors in the project. They can be found here.
  • The template {{Wikiproject Golf}} has been added to a total of 794 articles. We are most probably more than half way there.
  • Badbilltucker has proposed "Wikipedia Week" starting on the 15th of January. Details can be found here.
  • We have 14 participants at present.
  • If you are in need of things to do, the To-Do list could be a good start.
  • At present, there are no featured articles related to golf, and only one Good article. This is Tiger Woods.
  • Discuss golf course notability and a possible featured article collaboration on the talk page.

Thanks for your support with this project. Grover 08:42, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!!

Thanks for reviewing me! I probably won't run for admin until I have at least around 1500-3000 edits. As for my edit summary usage, I'm trying to work on it. Thanks again!

P.S.: That [1] was hilarious! Ninetywazup? 23:18, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help on Adoption templates

Hey, what's up Sr13? Listen, with me being a new adopter and all, I just wanted to ask, what templates should I use to request adopting an adoptee? I know using the Welcome Template, but what about the message? Is there a template for that? Or, should I type out my own message? Just checking for help, thanks! --Tohru HondaSign here! 00:32, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well...WYF is gone...I give my personal condolences.

Thank you. :) Truth be told, I wasn't active as much as Michaelas10, who did much of the work. I was first informed of its deletion by him, actually. Kalani [talk] 01:00, 8 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 14:03, 13 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

inappropriate tag

You placed a speedy deletion tag on Hazrat Ali, without checking its edit history.

I put a fair amount of work into this article. Then it was blanked by a vandal. You applied a speedy deletion tag, presumably because it was blank. But I am pretty sure you are supposed to check the edit history, to see if the article has been vandalized, before you apply the speedy tag. The administrator who consummated the deletion apologized for not double-checking your work.

Frankly, the administrators who consummate {{prod}} and speedy deletions are often trusting enough they don't double-check to see if the nominator's justification is valid.

Undoing this mixup has cost me and the administrator over an hour's worth of time. Checking the edit history would have cost you what -- 30 seconds?

So, could you please be more careful next time?

Cheers! -- Geo Swan 14:52, 18 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Co-adoption request

Hi Sr13! I am already adopted by a very nice Wikipedian, but requesting co-adoption because of my very unreasonable reasons (mentioned in detail on my userpage). My reason for asking - you mentioned that you are available more often and are also very active in maintenance, etc. Please be aware, that I may continue to request other users (with expertise in other areas) for further co-adoption, as I want to gain a wider knowledge of WP before I settle down on a particle activity. Please let me know if I am eligible. Thanks! --Vikas Kumar Ojha Talk to me! 19:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for adoption

Hi, are you still seeking adoptees? I'm an intermediate level Wikipedian who has mostly been writing about bioenergy and related topics. However I'm not too intimate with the inner workings of Wikipedia. It would be nice to have someone to consult for various issues. --Tunheim 09:01, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet. That's most kind of you. Are there any steps needed to formalize the adoption? --Tunheim 07:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As described in WP:ADOPT I've added {{Adoptee}} and {{Adopter}} to my and your user page respectively. Hope you don't mind. I'm no sure how to add the user box in a way that makes it line up nicely without distrupting the rest of the text. Do you? --Tunheim 08:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The project has reached the quarter-way point for the work on the list of the oldest 1000 ("abandoned") articles in Wikipedia: 250 articles have been reviewed and updated!

The project now has 21 members. If you're no longer interested, please take your name off the list; you won't get any further messages like this one. On the other hand, if you're still interested, please consider signing up for a(nother) block of 10 articles to work on - if everyone did this, we'd be almost halfway through those 1000 articles!

Finally, please note that project approach has changed slightly - there is now a section for editors to place articles that need to be "adopted", or to adopt articles that need further work. This means that if you find an article in a block of ten that needs more work than you have time for, it has a place to be put.

The reason why the general wikipedia community disagrees with me is because the general wikipedia community doesnn't play sport. The general community of the real world, not the computer world, would play sport and would therfore agree with me. Copyrights

Hi. I came across the article you created on the Ragsdale conjecture. Unfortunately, I think you followed the source http://www.agnesscott.edu/LRiddle/women/ragsdale.htm too closely. You lifted entire sentences from that article. I'm afraid that this constitutes a violation of the copyright of the article at Agnes Scott College, which is against the law. Therefore, I removed your text.

You can read more on Wikipedia:Copyrights. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a very good explanation of copyrights that I can point you to. However, copying entire sentences is certainly not allowed. Let me know if anything is unclear to you and I'll do my best to answer (but I'm not an expert on this matter). -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 12:03, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Corp2corp

Hi. You recently tagged Corp2corp for speedy deletion per WP:CSD#A5 (transwikied article). However, A5 only applies to "article[s] that ha[ve] been discussed at Articles for Deletion" and where the result was "transwiki". Simply having been transwikied does not qualify an article for deletion by A5. Just wanted to let you know. Cheers, Black Falcon 06:50, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ready for a new Adoptee?

Hi SR13,

As a long time end-user reading articles on Wikipedia I think I'm ready now for my first bit of editing. Of course, it's not that I want to edit so badly, it's just that there's some information out there that I think is somewhat biased. Biased the other way than my opinion |-)

I will try to read about the editing rules first and will try to apply them properly. But I expect some resistance in the editing I'm about to do, so it would be nice if someone could look over my shoulders and see to it that I really do so.

As I understand, there's many Adopters out there ready to adopt. Too many to consider them all, but I choose you for your mathematical background, which I can refer to.

So, if you have the time, would you consider adopting me?

Regards,

OldCar 12:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I put a reply on my talk page. OldCar 03:34, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right, what's it about? It's about the description of a specific anti-spam technique called Challenge-response spam filtering. After reading through some wikipedia policies, I think that page doesn't really express a NPOV. Furthermore there's some sources listed (as external links) that are self-published and in my opinion of very doubtful quality. I think the way to go is to put a message on the page's discussion page with my intentions of editing it (there's already a message from someone else there stating the same intention, but it's quite old, and might have been forgotten) and notify the main author by placing a message on his user talk page. Then wait e.g. a week and if there's no objection, edit the page. What's your opinion? OldCar 12:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One more question: Currently on the page there's this tag {{Unreferenced|date=March 2007}} I think it's no longer valid, but I couldn't really find a policy on what to do with such a thing. Do you know? OldCar 12:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My personal opinion is to just put a message on the creator's talk page explaning the situation (posting on the talk page may take months for anyone to see). You can actually begin renovating the page already without any experssed permission. As for the template, you can remove it; there is no policy against removing the template if you find it faulty for the article. Sr13 (T|C) 19:55, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

as far as I know the point of the project is not to just remove stub from the article, but to also tag it with more useful templates and/or clean-up easily fixed things, which is what I was systematically doing, crossing off the ones I've finished as I went. Thanks - EvokeNZ 07:55, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
