Stagecoach in Chesterfield[edit]

Stagecoach in Chesterfield is a stub article. What do we do with stub articles? We expand them! This afternoon, my brother spent a lot of time expanding it, only to have it reverted to it's original form, by you. If it can't be expanded, then may I why there is a stub there in the first place? Sonic Mew 17:40, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

What "we" do with stubs depends on the stub. Sometimes they're worth expanding, sometimes they're not. I don't think that this one is. This is an encyclopædia, not a bus timetable. Aside from the timetable, the only information in this article is that it's about Stagecoach in Chesterfield — which is already in the title. I could simply have deleted it, but I decided instead to make it a redirect. If you prefer, I'll put it up for VfD. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:19, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I got your reply, and I can see your point. It does seem pretty pointless having a stub, if there is nothing that can be added. And I can't think of anything other than the routes. Deletion sounds like the best idea.Sonic Mew 18:28, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

A hearty thanks on making this article. I've been struggling lately to enforce WP:FICT (a great policy IMHO), and I hadn't even thought to apply it here. Good job! --InShaneee 03:49, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Pokémon[edit]

Hello. You've probably seen I've been doing a lot of work on Pokémon and Pokémon-related articles today. I have seen you are also a strong, positive contributer of all things Pokémon. I hope together, we can vastly improve the presense of Pokémon on Wikipedia. --Daniel Lawrence 15:09, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Cho Picture[edit]

Hi. I hate to pounce on your upload of the Cho Chang image, but that isn't actually a picture of her, it's a promo picture of Katie Leung, not a shot of Katie Leung as Cho in GoF, so I've taken it off Cho's page. It could go on Katie Leung's page tho... --drak2 29 June 2005 21:29 (UTC)

A Pokemon Wiki[edit]

There is a Pokemon wiki at http://pokemon.wikicities.com/wiki/Home - it's not as good as the stuff we have here, but I think if we help, it may be within a few months. I think that us Wikipedians from the Pokemon project should help there to make is better. User142 30 June 2005 11:48 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing me to it. However, I am more likely to contribute to articles here, and to Bulbapedia for more specialist articles. Sonic Mew June 30, 2005 19:00 (UTC)

Jynx picture change[edit]

Why did you change the 'Ani124.gif' picutre of Jynx unsigned comment by 207.200.24.241, also known as Jsmith.

I reverted it because the original one is the official Ken Sugimori artwork, which we are using on all Pokémon articles for consistency. And can you please log in before making contributions? Sonic Mew June 30, 2005 16:25 (UTC)

KEEP THE Ani124.gif JYNX PICTURE[edit]

What does this mean?[edit]

I worked on Pokemon media and release information and this warning is on the page: The introduction of this article does not provide enough context for readers unfamiliar with the subject. Please fix the introduction or article as you see fit, and remove this notice when you are finished. now how can I change the article if all it has is lists of the opening and ending of the Pokemon show.. unsigned comment by Jsmith

I assume you were referring to this: Template:Context. If an article does not provide any context, then it will confuse readers unfamiliar wih Pokémon, (making them more likely to place it on vfd.) A list of Openings and endings should be easy to make a decent introduction for, but the real question is: Do we really need it? Sonic Mew June 30, 2005 17:41 (UTC)
I editted the post above so it wouldn't show up in the Wikipedia articles needing context category. -- Kjkolb 05:20, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Subst[edit]

Don't forget to substitute templates with section headers (such as {{Welcome2}} and {{idw}}) when you use them on talk pages - it reduces server load, and prevents accidental blanking of the template. -- Fuzheado | Talk 4 July 2005 16:13 (UTC)

substing templates[edit]

Hi there. Just so you know, it is better to add templates such as {{current}} just like that, without substing. That means that it can be updated at template:current and automatically updates every page it's used on. Also, it looks neater in the source of an article. Cheers, violet/riga (t) 5 July 2005 21:46 (UTC)

Nice work on the 2012 Olympic article! I was already thinking of splitting the bid article when you did it. And thanks for the pointer about using subst. I'm still picking things up at the moment. But I am still a little unsure about it, so if you could reply to my query at the Village Pump, I would be very grateful. Sonic Mew July 6, 2005 16:25 (UTC)
Thanks! I've replied on the VP - if you have any more questions please feel free to come along and ask. violet/riga (t) 6 July 2005 16:35 (UTC)

Could you please cite a source or two for your new section in the article? It may need some tweaking, and sources would help. Thanks. KHM03 7 July 2005 22:25 (UTC)

Lucario, not Rukario[edit]

Here are some pictures -- the latter two from the official Japanese online store -- to prove that the Pokémon is called Lucario: [1] [2] [3]

Also, there's no "n" in "romaji" :P

(Unsigned comment by Wonk619 (talk · contribs))

Please stop moving Rukario to Lucario. It does not have an offical name in romanji, but Rukario is more widely used. On Google "Lucario" gets 6,360 hits, (not all of which are relevant), while "Rukario" get 27,200 hits. Additionally, Pokemon Elite 2000 had this to say [4]
Since Rukario has been revealed in Coro Coro, there has been a lot of talk whether the names would transfer to Romanization as "Rukario" or "Lucario." Although both could be correct, it's a matter which one will be used. We may now have that answer.
The official Japanese website for the 8th Pokemon movie has been updated with the new Pokemon's silhouette (the same one we have seen already). You can visit the page here: http://www.pokemon2005.jp/movie/index.html .The filename of the image at the official site for the new Pokemon is named "rukario.gif".
Although this is just a name of a file, we should assume that Rukario will be the name unless official sources state otherwise.

Paula Zakaria[edit]

Paula Throckmorton isn't "just married to a famous person"; she is an achiever in her own right. A Harvard graduate, she has written for The Wall Street Journal and owns a successful jewellery business. (Unsigned comment by 217.169.53.163 (talk · contribs))

While, she may be an achiever in her own right, the article does not reflect this. The article was put on vfd because there was no way of proving the opposite. If you want to save the article, then I suggest that you expand the article and then put a keep vote on the vfd with your reasons. Sonic Mew | talk to me 21:14, July 25, 2005 (UTC)

Pokémon on TV[edit]

Do you have any idea which channel and at what times Pokémon is shown in the UK? I can't find it in the TV times anywhere... Is it on Sky? --Celestianpower talk 10:23, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pokémon is not on terrestrial television in the UK at the moment.
On Sky, Kanto and the Orange Islands are shown on Toonami all over the schedule. Sky 1 show Master Quest at 7.00am, (and Sky Mix sometimes show Johto League Champions around 4.00am.)
New episodes are:
    • Advance Challenge on Sky 1 at 8.00am on Sundays.
    • Pokémon Chronicles on Toonami at 4.30pm on Wednesdays.

Re: entry "wadchadoing"[edit]

Hi. Gel (from Singapore) here. I'm here regarding the Wikipedia article, wadchadoingwadchadoing.

In the VfD discussion thread http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2005_July_31#Wadchadoing , you said that this word actually predates January 2005. How can it be so? Evidence?

It's really Singlish at work here. I have updated the page a couple of minutes ago regarding its origin.

I have gone through many major search engines and none of them turned up anything pertaining to "wadchadoing" except my own website and a few of my friends' websites quoting my phrase.

So again, I beg to differ and clarify.

Please reply to psyduck_inc@hotmail.com if you can.

Regards, Gel (Unsigned comment by 153.20.95.70 (talk · contribs))

Wadchadoing certainly isn't in general use on the internet, (though the fact that it still isn't now does prove that it is not notable enough for an article). But the way it predates January, is that it is normally used as an alternative to "what are you doing?" by young children. I am certain that I have heard it used in that context more than once before this year.
You should be aware of Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary and Wikipedia:Vanity page. Dictionary definitions belong in [Wiktionary, but should it become notable, someone else may make a Wikipedia article for it then. Sonic Mew | talk to me 18:26, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

Wang Kon[edit]

Hi. I have added a category to your new article Wang Kon, and wondered if it should be moved to or have a redirect from Taejo (Chunsu) of Goryeo who seems to have been roughly the same thing at the same time, according to Goryeo (a redirect from Koryo dynasty). Do you know? --ScottDavis | Talk 10:15, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I don't know. I just made it from a request, with the information I could find online, so that if anyone who knows about Korean history came along, they would have more incentive to give their Knowledge. "Wang Kon" seems to get more Google hits [5] [6], so I suggest leaving it there until someone with said knowledge comes along. Sonic Mew | talk to me 22:12, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

You have probably answered this before but whay are you not a member of the PAC may I ask? We could do with your input. --Celestianpower talk 16:40, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pokemon Communication Center[edit]

in the Japanese version of Pokemon Crystal, what is the PCC (Pokemon Communication Center?)(Unsigned question by 70.112.212.191 (talk · contribs))

The Pokémon Communication Center is in the place of the Goldenrod Pokémon Centre, and it is basically just an advanced version of it. But there are some extra features, and the GS Ball is available there after beating all 16 Gyms. You can find a bit more information here. [7] Sonic Mew | talk to me 20:53, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

POKEMON CLONING CODE[edit]

I don't have the Japanese games, so I can't answer your questions about them. Sonic Mew | talk to me 22:01, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Could you please tell me why you put a clean-up notice on the article? Sonic Mew | talk to me 19:46, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

Snarky reason: because the article is about half poorly-formatted lists, and one-third excruciating detail about fans arguing about how the series was localized. The article needs restructuring, better linking, and a little bit of brushcutting, all by someone knowledgable about the subject but also willing to say, "You know, it's not really necessary to go on for three paragraphs about mild romantic tension being removed from the English-language localization of a childrens' anime."
More reasonable reason: The tag is there because the article could do with a little attention from WP:PAC, and bringing things to the attention to the contributors to that project is what the tag is for. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 20:04, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

External Links in Pokémon articles[edit]

Rather than have 400 or so articles that need to be updated whenever an external site goes down, someone in WP:PAC made a References/External Links template for Pokémon articles, Template:pokerefs. Altering Cave[edit]

How do you change the pokemon that appear in Fire Red and Leaf Green??

I can handle this one.
In the US game, it's useless, unless you need a whole bunch of Zubats. (I think you can EV train speed there, if you want.) In the Japanese game, you can use e-Reader to swipe certain Japan-only cards to replace the Zubats with certain Johto Pokémon. The US games don't support the e-Reader after Ruby and Sapphire, and in the US those Johto Pokémon are instead available in the Emerald Safari Zone expansion area after beating the Elite Four. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 18:56, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Action Replay[edit]

Is their an Action Replay code that you can get the Mystic and Aurura Ticket on Pokemon Leaf Green and Fire Red?? Does it work?? (Unsigned question by 207.200.24.241 (talk · contribs))

Pokémon articles[edit]

Please stop removing the list of Pokémon from articles about characters in the Pokémon World. They are not 'cruft', but important information. Sonic Mew | talk to me 16:42, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No thanks, because they are indeed cruft in their form. In almost all articles, there was a massive list that takes up more room than the actual noteworthy content. - A Link to the Past (talk) 16:53, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the articles certainly still need work, but that doesn't stop the fact that this is important information. Sonic Mew | talk to me 17:00, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Then go improve it. - A Link to the Past (talk) 17:02, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing! But I can't magically make everything better in an instant. Sonic Mew | talk to me 17:04, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Then what business is it of mine as long as you're not going to add excessive lists back in?
Also, WHY the Hell did you delete one of the messages from my User talk page?
And I notice you voted to move the novel article of OFotCN; why? There is the clear level of popularity in the movie that makes it obtain the exception as 2001 has. It has made much more money than the novels, it is far more popular, and it is one of the biggest Academy Award winners of all time. More people are going to go to the main article for movie information, you fail to realize. - A Link to the Past (talk) 17:08, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well you can stop removing them and leave them. They need improving, but they are currently more useful as they are than not there at all.
I didn't realise I deleted a message from your talk page. If I did, it was an accident, and I'm sorry.
I believe I said why there. If I went to that page, then I would want information on the book, but that is why I suggested a disambiguation. Sonic Mew | talk to me 17:49, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Then I will add cleanup tags to the articles.
A disambig page should be One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (disambiguation, just like The Godfather does. - A Link to the Past (talk) 18:16, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Chronicles[edit]

"(→Criticism and controversy - Consensus on the Chronicles page was that Dani and Yoshi were never canon names. It's covered over there, anyway.) "

How is it not canon? Were the names "Dani" and 'Yoshi" used in the U.S. version of the main show? WhisperToMe 19:49, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The names were used, but Jackson just said "Hey Dani! Hey Yoshi!" in front of a tv camera, so he could have been calling to anyone. It was assumed that that was who he was talking too, because that is who he is talking to in the Japanese version. Yet the other two references are changed to references about his family, so it was never canon that that was their names. Sonic Mew | talk to me 20:00, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unused images[edit]

Hi Sonic Mew, it seems you have a lot of unused Pokémon images that you uploaded. 99, to be exact (see the list at the top of this page). Are you planning to use these, or can I have them deleted? There's a new speedy deletion criterion that includes unused "fair use" images, since we can't claim fair use on unused images. :p Coffee 08:01, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I did put all of them on pages, but they have since been removed and whoever did it just didn't list them on ifd then. (Most were what I could find to improve the Pokémon species articles, which were replaced by official artwork during WP:PAC.) So you are free to delete all of them. Sonic Mew | talk to me 13:52, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
