Removal of calendar and template on the Asian Games

Hi, first because personally I can't see any reason to keep the schedule on the page months after the competition. but there are other reasons for that, also because these schedules are mostly incomplete and wrong because they are mostly based on the original program announced months ago. also half of those articles about sports at the Games didn't have such schedule and more than anything else I care about consistency between pages. if someone disagrees with that , that's fine we can talk about that. btw couple months after the Games most of those AG articles are left not-updated, incomplete with so many mistakes, people are mostly interested in editing them during the Games only. Half of those articles didn't have such schedule because you removed it. Even so, you have to do it consistently, go remove all schedule from the Olympics article. Also, are you sure that the schedules are "incomplete and wrong"? I remember that the 2018 Asian Games has a pretty complete schedule on its website. Months ago the games already ended, what do you mean by "the original program announced months ago"? That's simple. they announce the schedules but so many things happen in multisport events cause them to make some changes. mostly because of lack of qualifiers the number participants change sometimes even in last minutes. I don't expect you to understand though. I can't see any reason Olympics and Asian Games should be similar, as for templates. there are already links in the article connecting the main article to the sub-articles. that's not necessary. Why don't you remove all the date from the infobox and the schedule from these articles such as Gymnastics at the 2018 Asian Games – Men's artistic team then? Give me examples from the calendar that you removed in the 2018 Asian Games where the schedule is actually changed. As for the template, it is necessary because it would be helpful for readers who don't usually see these kind of article, it's not necessary/redundant for you because you as an editor often see them in the article. I can tell you the name of every single medalists. and btw for example I fixed the dead link for the 1958 Games, here is a source for the whole table. unfortunately OCA is the last source you can trust. Dharun

Dear Mohsen. You are right for this Indian athlete: IAAF, my main source, put his name in that order. But the names’ order in India 🇮🇳 does not correspond to the western order. It depends on your culture, but very often you do not put last, the last name, and do not put first, the first name. And sometimes it could vary from place to place and because Astrology! Some people do not have Family name (but only 1 Name). If you have a look to the Indian versions of Dharun, you will see that in all the languages (Hindi, Tamil, etc), Dharun, his personal (and First) name is written in second. Moving Latifah bint Ahmed Al Maktoum

Hey, I noticed the move citing most sources use 'Latifa' but looking up in content of those cites most use 'Latifah' apart from that her sponsors and her social media profile (unverified) both along many interviews to gulf outlets use 'Latifah'. I am speculating but may be it being common name (in al-maktoum clan there are six Latifa al-maktoums in that age group) they tweak the English spelling slightly to better distinguish themselves.  Ohsin  03:14, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Filipino

Dear User,

Do you speak Filipino language with its 28 letters? Andrés Franco (high jumper) spoke probably Tagalog, because he was born in Tondo, Manila, the heart of the actual Filipino/Pilipino/Tagalog. As in English, there is a very rare uses of the accents in Filipino (except ñ), but the names of the people were often written down in Spanish. In Spanish, an official/usual language there before American occupation[at least, when he was born (in 1925) …:

While Spanish and English were considered "official languages" during the American colonial period, there existed no "national language" initially. Article XIII, section 3 of the 1935 constitution establishing the Commonwealth of the Philippines provided that: The National Assembly shall take steps toward the development and adoption of a common national language based on one of the existing native languages. I only found texts in English (not one in Tagalog) and in English, the accents are not usual in typography. When in an English text, I don’t notice an accent, most of the time, it is just a lack of precision. English texts are not very accurate with accents and similar marks (as ñ). It is not the fault of the speakers: they ignore that accents exist. As in Wikipedia, the rule is usually to take the native usual names of the sportsmen, Andrés Franco, as asserted by Sports Reference, is much more precise than Andres Franco (name and surname are clearly “Spanish” forms, not Tagalog).

2001 World Games life saving medals

Thank you for correcting my edit on the 2001 World Games list of medallists for life saving. It was not obvious to me from the archived Akita website that the ten events in question were not themselves medal events. It also was not obvious that the overall team medals were based on the results of these ten events, although that does of course make sense. It would not surprise me that the IWGA website entirely overlooked some medal events. Is there another source that clarified this for you? Are there inferences that I have missed? @Jeff in CA: You are welcome. yeah I remember I researched a lot to make sure how they count those medals. they did the same for 2005 and 2009 World Games. I created that page and did all those researches almost 2 years ago so I can't remember what was my main source, I will take a look at it but I usually compare the medals (I mean counting them all) with the original medal table and if they are the same that means everything is correct. for example that medal table shows 3-7-4 for South Africa but if you count those events RSA will have much more. I would like to create the same list for previous World Games but there is no other source except IWGA database which I simply don't trust and has some mistakes like this. @Jeff in CA: I tried to find that but I think that's just a mistake. if you count the medals. it's 141-140-140 in that table. (and everything is matched with the list of medalists) but we had no shared gold medals in that event (even if we had and all sources missed it, the number of silver medals should be 139) GBR had two gold medals in Dancesport and Bowling in double events. maybe (just maybe) one of the athletes is from Northern Ireland and they counted that gold medal twice. Actually that makes sense, England also has another gold medal (beside Tug of war) it can't be in Karate because GBR won other Karate medals and they are all listed for Great Britain. I can assume in one of those 2 sports (Bowling or Dancesport) one of the team members are from England and the other one from Northern Ireland. so they count 1 gold for each one ?! maybe that's the answer. This is English wikipedia, so write in English, this guy exactly shares the same surname as Amir Aliakbari, why this one should be different ? wikipedia doesn't use the passport name but the WP:Commonname. when you write his name as "Ali Akbari" it will be confusing and people won't know Ali+Akbari together is his surname. they will probably think Ali is a part of his given name. btw I see you moved Mahdi Torabi to Mehdi Torabi while FIFA and probably AFC uses Mahdi. that was correct IMO because Mehdi is the correct transliteration. but you can't have double standard, it should be always the correct transliteration. This is interesting, now I have several sources calling that guy "Amir Aliakbari" UFC for example which is the biggest deal in MMA world and there are more. Ali and Akbari are spelled together, when you write them separately non-persian speakers will most probably think Ali is a middle name or something else. that makes Aliakbari the correct transliteration, and Amir Aliakbari is a famous athlete around the world, (unlike our Kurash guy) and everywhere he is known as Aliakbari and nothing else, nobody is going to move that page. and I remember he was upset some people wrongly calling him as "Amir Ali" like that's his given name (and Akbari as surname) and I repeat what I asked several times, why two guys with exactly the same name in Persian should have different English transliterations ? consistency is what I care about the most. and let me have an advise for you too, keep your "wise" advises for yourself. So I did a very simple stub for Draft:Toshiya Saito. And you have helped me to improve it. But it was useless. A prolific user that thinks he will improve articles just saying what it is wrong (but with no Real improvement), has moved the stub into immediate deletion. This Japanese fencer is one of the most important fencers in the world (Silver individual medal at World Championships) but the reason of deletion was: there are no sources (even if you helped me to put the FIE profile, a primary source). I created those pages long time ago, I can't remember if I searched hard enough for the remaining pages or not. but I assume I did. and about the dragon boat, they have a world championship but I don't think that's notable enough. the sport is very disorganized, there is no fixed schedule to have World Championship each year. @Kante4: sure, as you probably know in Bahrain (and some other countries like UAE or Qatar) they have so many names, some of these guys are known in their own country with a different name than their English name in official documents. I write what I can read in that list, those in Italic are those I'm not sure about the transliteration, mostly because the word is unfamiliar for me. (Arabic is a bit different than my language but I can read it and understand it at some basic level)

Wushu Notability

Hi Moshen1248. I am Yinglong999, and I am relatively new to Wikipedia. I have noticed your numerous contributions to wushu related articles and want to say thanks for all of that. I have been researching about notability recently and found that there are no general guidelines that exist regarding the notability of wushu practitioners, organizations etc. Although one could just observe WP:GNG, I think it would be good if wushu has its own section on WP:NSPORT to standardize the production of wushu articles, as many of them seem to be quite out of place (I can link you some if you are interested) or in some cases, some topics considered notable do not have their own pages. Hi, well I think it's hard to have a general rule for notability, every sport has its own situation. but personally I think whoever won a medal at a World Championship or Asian Games or World Games should be considered notable. Replacement of pictograms

Hi, I had replaced pictograms for paragliding and paramotoring that are mainly used in the asian games articles. You undid some of my changes with the comment "Replace the source picture in commons, not here". The reason I didn't replace the source picture is that there were substancial changes which according to the guidelines of commons required me to upload the images under a new name. Also the original pictograms are just bad and don't represent the sport they should (anyone I showed the icons thought they were for skydiving, not paragliding). Please have another look at the icons. Since you're the main editor on the articles anyway I'd say that you're the one to decide. --NainDeathlegs (talk) 15:18, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

@NainDeathlegs: Hi, I just think we always should use the main pictogram (not something with another name) in the sport page, that's why I undid your changes. I created those pictograms because there were nothing for those sports, I don't say they are good. (to be honest that was the best I could do lol) you can simply replace them in wikicommons, I have absolutely no problem with that. @Mohsen1248: Hey, thanks for the response but like I said before: replacing them would violate the commons guidelines (Commons:Commons:Overwriting existing files) as I have made substancial changes. The pictograms are now being used in 9 different wikis and at least in some instances they were used because it looks like parachuting (at least in the french version; Greek, Persian and Indian I can't even read the article titles; also in the english version it is often used as a general for air sports for which parachuting is more representative than paragliding). If I was to replace it in Commons I would cause an edit war for sure. In that case I would prefer the old files to be used --NainDeathlegs (talk) 07:06, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

I just want to know the exact rule. for example if you see Modern pentathlon pictogram someone made substancial changes and nobody complained. the file name is "Paragliding pictogram" so it should be the best possible pictogram for that sport. I highly doubt anybody protests improving the pictogram. and about non-English wikipedia pages. I can check them with online translator to see if they used it for parachuting or paragliding. @Mohsen1248: Sorry about the late response. I fixed the link to the guideline: Commons:Commons:Overwriting existing files (2 Commons). We can do it if the move is approved as there is already a pictogram for parachuting: File:Parachuting pictogram.svg. But may I point out that Commons:Category:SVG sports pictograms already contains several pictograms that are a second version. I admit that the replacement is the clean version but it does not always work that way with a lot of people working together:

Wrestling at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification

Hello! I am here because of the removal of the note "The United States differs from other countries in that, the U.S. athletes referenced above, do not qualify for the Olympics themselves, but instead qualify their respected weight classes. The 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials decides which U.S. athletes will go to the Olympics for the qualified weight classes." I recognize the U.S. is not the only country to do trials. But the page did not clarify this information. Thus I assumed not all the countries listed above had trials. (I even checked and it turns out several of the countries listed do not have trials). As for the comment left in the edit history tab, "had to remove this part which is wrong, it's not only USA with its own Olympic trials, (most countries do the same) wrestlers win quotas for their NOC, not for themselves", The page is not edited in a way to clarify the difference between athletes obtaining spots for themselves or for their weights. I had only added a note on U.S. trials (for wrestling) so to further inform readers of the process. Thus, I would request that if you know more information about a topic, to rather edit the wording to be more accurate, then to remove all information altogether. Hi and thanks for your time on editing qualification pages, some of them are on my watchlist. the point is USA is not the only country with its own trials. this is not specific to US. most countries with depth in the sport do the same. yeah for example San Marino doesn't. I will add a note about the fact that athletes qualify their NOCs and not themselves.

that qualification page (most all qualification pages for other sports) is about the athletes who won the quota, not the athletes who go to the Olympics. so I say USA wrestling trials is more related to United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics, of course a link in "see also" section is nice as you added it. However, when i clicked on the link it took me to a page which worried/confused me. سلام. ویکیپدیا کلا برای یوزرهای جدید سختگیری بیشتری داره. من در مورد فضای کار این شخص هیچ اطلاعی ندارم برای همین نمیدونم "نوتیبل" محسوب میشه یا نه. ممکنه با استاندارهای ویکیپدیا محسوب نشه. هر مبحثی یه سری استاندارد داره که اون شخص باید اون درجه از مشهور بودن رو داشته باشه تا براش صفحه ایجاد بشه. مثلا در مورد یک ورزشکار، اگر تو المپیک شرکت کرده باشه قطعا نوتیبل یا سرشناس محسوب میشه. اگر شرکت نکرده باشه باید استانداردهای دیگه‌ای رو داشته باشه. مثلا در مورد اون والیبالیست حامد تاری وردی من استاندارهای والیبال رو نگاه کردم، و دیدم استاندارد دقیقی نداره اما بر اساس استاندارد کلی پیجهای ورزشی چون برای تیم ملی ایران بازی نکرده وافتخار بین المللی هم در سطح بزرگسالان نداره پس سرشناس از دید ویکیپدیا محسوب نمیشه.

نمیدونم این پیج دیگه هم همین مشکل رو داره یا نه چون به این فضاآشنا نیستم ولی محتمله همین باشه. و یک نکته مهم، وقتی شما پیج رو با اسم اشتباه ایجاد میکنی باعث میشه از اول به ارزشمند بودنش شک کنن. در هر دو مورد شمااول اسم از حروف بزرگ استفاده نکردی، این استاندارد انگلیسی هستش. یعنی اول اسم فامیل تاری وردی رو باید تی بزرگ میذاشتید. همین چیزا باعث میشه حساستر بشن.
