Thank you for doing this @Gerda Arendt and Gog the Mild:. Is it weird for me to support, or is that a normal part of the process? Seems like I am endorsing myself? The blurb seems fine, even if "The women′s conference was convened after the war to introduce women′s issues to the process" is a bit redundant. The procedure is as follows (which I had forgotten myself): as soon as an article receives the FA star, Dank writes a blurb on the FAC's talk. And thank you for doing that, Dan! Discussion can begin right then. Now that the TFAR is open, I think to discuss there is fair. Dan, you will know that it's Susun's first FA, so first FAC. Susun, you don't have to support but it's normal. The days of counting "votes" there, and calculating other features such as rareness, are past, and I haven't seen any reasonable request fail in a long time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:13, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Dank, thank you. As is quite clear from the list of articles I have written, I do focus mostly on historical women ;). Promoting them is hard for me, but the writing part and researching part is enjoyable and allows me to learn so much about the gaps in our knowledge about women's history. The Great Britain/Ireland Destubathon

Hi. The Wikipedia:The Great Britain/Ireland Destubathon is planned for March 2020, a contest/editathon to eliminate as many stubs as possible from all 134 counties. Thanks Susun! Yes "contest" isn't the point, that's partly why I've not bothered with a Wikimedia grant request for a larger prize fund. While a larger prize fund is more attractive it was clear from the Women contest that very few contestants are only doing it just for money. I hope this will give editors motivation to improve existing articles which are often neglected. Editors are welcome to obliterate C-B class articles and bios which are poorly sourced and rewrite it, so even if you did a few articles on some particularly notable women redrafted that would be warmly welcome. If there is significant WIR support I may allow new bios to be created as part of it, but it is a Destubathon, we badly need a mechanism for people to work on existing content too. Nancy Clarke

Thanks for all your work on these topics. This article seems to have a couple of typos that would be better fixed by someone who knows the subject: Clarke's slave is alternately named 'Staira'/'Satira' (not sure which is correct) and I'm assuming "She manumitted a slave name Scipio there in 1810" is just meant to read "slaved named Scipio"? IAW Conference

I'd rather not get sucked into a discussion on the talk page, but I would advise you stick to your guns about the possible inclusion of the table. It's terrible. Awful. It breaches the MoS and the article wouldn't have got through FAC with it on the page - and that should tell you enough about how bad it is! The changes to the image captions is something to consider, as it will change the gallery into something that holds relevant information as well as the images. I don't push the point tho: I will leave it to your discretion as to whether you decide to action it or not. Maybe Gog or Ipiggot will have a view on whether it's a good idea or not - both are excellent editors and will be able to advise accordingly. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 16:00, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

I'll take a more careful look at the translated nouns tomorrow but I can't see there are any major problems. As for Sandy's table, in its earlier stages the article simply contained a list of the participants and I suggested it would be far better expressed as running text (as it is now). At one point there was a suggestion that it might be useful to include a table in the form of a separate article but not as part of the article itself. I agree with SchroCat that things are far better left as they are. Maybe one or two minor changes could be made but nothing drastic.--Ipigott (talk) 16:55, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
The main problem seems to be italics for the names of foreign institutions. I've checked a number of reliable style guides and discover that Sandy is quite right: the names of foreign institutions should not be italicized. I've therefore removed the italics where necessary. As you have noticed, I did a bit of work on this on the Inter-Allied Women's Conference but I also tried to sort out the italics problem on most of the other articles on women's organizations. Many have been caused by Template:Lang (which italicizes unless you tell it not to) but others are a result of my own misinterpretation of internationally accepted rules. Ipigott I think it will be a massive job to change them all. Just contemplating the number of foreign women I have written about and the number of organizations that belonged to is overwhelming. I truly appreciate your help. I only found one you missed and added an English translation for the National Women's Union in Milan. I do question the name of the Archives du Féminisme at the University of Angers; that has always seemed weird to me. SusunW (talk) 15:59, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I could still nominate your article for GA tonight or tomorrow. I came up with this hook:

Yoninah, yes, quite busy and pretty much ignoring DYK, as it just always seems contentious to me. I do not have access to the NY Times archives. I checked both newspapers.com and newspaperarchive.com and neither carried the Times' obituary, though there are numerous other obits for her if you would like those. Yoninah, the article is looking great. Two more tidbits if you want them, Virginia's middle name was May and her mother was Eva M. (née Perry).[6] and according to her brother, who was the informant of her personal information at her death, she died from cervical cancer and was born 31 July 1916 in Boston.[7] SusunW (talk) 23:02, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! I don't think that familysearch.org is a RS, though. I'm also having a big dilemma about her birth and death dates. I asked for a volunteer at Find a Grave to take a picture of her gravestone to verify the dates, and they did so pretty quickly—see here. The problem is that the gravestone lists her dates as 1909–1947. Her niece, who put up the Find a Grave page, lists the dates as 1908–1946. And most media reports say she died at the end of 1946 at the age of 30—but that would be impossible, seeing as her father died in 1912. Now I'm stumped. Yoninah FamilySearch is definitely a reliable source. It is actual photocopies of actual primary records. That tombstone helped a lot (even though wp does not think Find-a-Grave is a reliable source). I did a search on FamilySearch with William Homer Walker as father and Eva Mary Perry as mother for births between 1903 and 1912. 3 results: William Jr. 23 June 1903 (line 2); John E. 29 March 1907 (#2262); and unknown female 31 July 1908 (5 up from the bottom). All 3 show father as a lawyer and parents living at the same address of 38 Arlington Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, the city where each child was also born. So, clearly the 1908 date is correct. Her death certificate says she died on 23 December 1946 at 3:40 p.m. (You don't have to pay to create a sign-in for family search and see the records). SusunW (talk) 21:34, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, that's what happens when you have a bunch of links open at the same time *sigh* 1908. To search, just go to the top 2nd tab, search records and then input what you want. Dr. Blofeld, I understand why the bio on Tupou is in the shape that it is. I can find snippets of info, but none of the major works on her are available on line to me. Elizabeth Wood-Ellem's book Queen Salote of Tonga: The Story of an Era 1900-1965 based on Wood-Ellem's doctoral thesis, is from what I can discover the most authoritative book on her life and politics. Margaret Hixon's Sālote: Queen of Paradise is a more intimate view of Tupou's biography. I think that if one wanted to truly make a comprehensive article, access to those would be necessary. I have no way to access to either of these books and have no public libraries anywhere near to me. Perhaps as you say Kavebear has better ways and means to develop the article? Harper Carter

Hi again. Every time I watch an old movie, I look to see if I can improve an article about one of the (usually) child actors. I was able to connect this living person with his current career as a real estate agent, but I am missing verification of his birthdate, birthplace, parents, how he got into acting, etc. Would your Newspapers.com subscription turn up any biographies or interviews of him? Please don't spend too much time on this. I once had a subscription to Newspapers.com, but didn't get much out of it at the time. Maybe I should renew it. Yay! My renewal request for Newspapers.com was granted, though it will take a few weeks to process. Meanwhile, I just created this article about a child actress. I'm wondering if you can find any newspaper clippings about her graduating from North Hollywood High School, or signing as a contract player to dance in Hollywood films. Once she moves to Las Vegas in 1952, she's known as Lee Kuney and then marries Arthur (Buddy) Grover; it would be nice to find some kind of wedding announcement. A comments... and a question

As a heads up, I made some copy edits to the Dorothy Thomas article last night: here. It won't hurt my feelings at all if you make major changes. I hope it's much better than it started out yesterday.

I put a question into wp:Women in Green about where to post a new article that is being formed right now. I didn't get a response, maybe nothing should be posted until its GA ready?? I am working on Guyanese composer Valerie Rodway - a cool, soulful woman. A person or bot added it for me last time I had an addition and I think Ippigot added the other for me. Bath School disaster

Thank you for everything you did on the image-files/permissions/etc at Bath School disaster, greatly appreciated. Do you have any idea as to how often Clindberg is around? Am hoping he can also weigh in on the images at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#Need some help finding actual sources of images. Lovely, thank you! I brought Volker David Kirchner to the Main page, for the sad reason that he died. I take care of such articles generally, but with special attention when I wrote most of it myself, in this case for his birthday in 2018. He was mentioned in 3 DYKs, DYK? His own, his conductor, and the one to whom he dedicated his opera Savonarola, and I watched it. He comes with a cute old image - not that you see much of him, but a famous woman's back - and a great old YouTube recording, which had been seen 10 times when I met it, - I hope that will change now ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Template:Did you know nominations/Anna Bērzkalne

Hi, I nominated this for DYK. The source about her changing the language from German to English doesn't seem to say that she re-translated it, but that she deliberately wrote it in English. Is that correct? Or do you have another source that says her doctoral thesis submitted in 1942 was a re-translation? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 01:16, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Yoninah Treija (2019) says she "purposefully chose to change her dissertation language from German to English". Clearly to me indicates that it was in German and she changed it, but there isn't any more precise language. All the other sources just say it was in English and she did a shorter abbreviated translation to Latvian. SusunW (talk) 07:13, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
OK, so that means to me that she was planning to write it in German (maybe that was the acceptable language then?) and she purposely chosen to write it in English instead. So I think the article and hook language are ok. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 12:05, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
Yoninah, I think your text is fine. She worked on it for many years, so my guess is that the initial proposal was at least made in German, otherwise, one wouldn't "change" it.
