My story today is about the Alchymic Quartet, - I went away from DYK but it's the last one from last year. - The songs are about vacation, continued. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:46, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- I love pictures of mountains. Being in them not so much, altitude (I live at sea level, so high is hard to acclimatize to) and generally cold. Fabulous photographs of the peaks and flora. Love the idea of that quartet, comparing chemical transformations to music. I have always said music is mathematical because shifting time and meter changes its genre, but now I can totally visualize links with scientific experimentation. Thanks for that! Barbara Bird
Hello, I am writing an article on Barbara Bird, a retired management professor. I believe she meets WP:PROF based on her citation counts, but I would like to add some biographic info. I can't tell if this M.A. thesis is written by the same Barbara Jean Bird [1]. I think the timing works out, but I'd like to be sure. - Hey Bookku, I've run through it and given it a copyedit. A couple of things you might consider, This says quotas have led to the changes. Lots of work on that topic can be found here. It may be that you don't want to introduce it, because it is somewhat controversial, but I think it gives insight into improvements and failures.This adds perspective, as it talks about local level authority as opposed to national authority. - Kusma I've reviewed it and made minor changes. I think I took out all of our comments too. I honestly think we need to have someone who is not familiar with all the overlapping names look at it. I do not generally like referring to women by their first names, but in this case with all the Elizabeth's it may be prudent. Names are indeed difficult: The "Wedlock" source calls Mary Eleanor Bowes "Mary Eleanor" and after the wedding calls Andrew Stoney "Bowes". Did you know...
that we are still lacking an article on one of the authors of Unveiling a Parallel, a pioneering feminist utopia set on Mars written by two women from Iowa in the 1890s? (I just wrote an article on the other one: Alice Ilgenfritz Jones). I am always surprised what kind of amazing women still lack articles: American female science fiction authors looks to me like an obvious case of "someone must have written about these women", but no, nobody did. - Not easy. Dobje was tiny (and still is). communities of the Krain region in 1900, see p. 58 (p. 66 of the PDF). Pölland/Poljane is a rather common name for villages in the region. If you go Slovenian, "Valentina Grošlja" is probably correct, but in English, you could use "Valentina Grošelj". Your "Valentina Grošlj" looks a bit odd to me. - O dear, your brain! Take a break, rest, think of something else. - I'll leave in minutes for another day off. - I'll have to search for the order of merit but am confident. Worse: more or less all (not only the books) rests on what she says and wrote, and all written sources say 7th child of 12, and in her spoken interview she says 8th. What is more reliable. Not that the fact matters much, but it's a key question: do we trust the so-called reliable sources or the primary person on whose memory - that faded in the end - it all rests. I am dismayed that there are no good obits (that I saw) - same problem as for the mezzo who sang at Oper Frankfurt for decades, and then all the Frankfurt paper had was dpa. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:12, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- It's always a possibility that one died young. My dad had an older brother but everyone always said daddy was the oldest son, my grandma was always called an only child (until my great grandfather remarried and had 12 more children), but she had a full brother who died in the 1918 flu pandemic. Personally, I never trust secondary sources because they are repeating what someone or some other record said. I want to see the primary source for myself. But that's the training in history and research. My guess is that a scholarly obit will take some months to appear because it has to be written, submitted for publication, edited, etc. SusunW (talk) 14:10, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Would that I could just find a simple statement that she was internationally known for her theories, but so far I haven't found that. (It's clear, as I found reviews in almost every language, but I need a source that says that.) I do have one bit to add about the influence of Ecofeminism and another about "housewifization", which I'll do as soon as I finish writing this. We also need to look for awards. The problem to my eyes is those page views, which = driveby editing, which means constantly monitoring to try to keep unsourced material out. In between trying to organize some serious real life stuff at the moment, I am working on a couple that I'd like to finish on the cusp of the month because one is an educator and both are LGBT, so they fit in both editathons. - It is frustrating, but all that's really lost is that you can't get creator credit. After merging and some rewriting, you will still be able to get it to GA soon, so I don't think it has been a complete waste of time. I did have fun researching this a bit. —Kusma (talk) 13:28, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you so much Justiyaya. I write because I want to learn about someone, and it is always a bonus if someone else reads an article I wrote and is able to learn something too or enjoy it. I approach every subject from the standpoint of sources. Can I find enough material to tell a whole story from beginning to end that is in more than one curated source. There are lots of people I want to learn about, but cannot find enough sources to tell a complete life story, so I choose someone else. I also never let language hold me back. I have developed a network of people on here who speak many languages and can help. I am happy to try to help if you have specific questions about a specific article. There are also essays at Women in Red that while they were written to give guidance on writing about women, give a good overview for writing about anything. Happy editing. - Welcome! Writing and learning about various lives does feel very interesting and satisfying to do, but I have no idea where to find these subjects though. - Thank you so much, Justiyaya. Always good to know who to go to for specific language issues. I will do that. I looked just looked at the WiR list for China, seems like there are potential subjects there, but I don't know what you like to write about. How I find people is literally to type "19th century, editathon for the month topic, country" in the language of whatever country I am interested in, so for this month, "19th century, lesbian, France" and ended up with Palmire Dumont. Then I let whatever red links show up there lead me to the next topic or redo the search with a different country. Don't know if that helps. I typically don't write about living people, so 19th century gets me someone born then who likely died in the 20th century. SusunW (talk) 04:38, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

- I've never been to a class reunion. Never lived anywhere close since I graduated. We will be there in September for my mom's 90th birthday and I think it will be the first time I've been there in a decade. - We had a reunion many years after, and for the second waited even longer, but then decided we better don't do that again, and wanted to change to every other year, but came the pandemic and it was five again. - What I came to say is that Soňa Červená is now a GA, and that is because of what you added. - Gerda Arendt I've ordered the two that analyze his work from the RX, we'll see what happens. Are you saying you cannot see the bio in Kürschners Musiker-Handbuch? I can't read it. It's in German and like all lexicons has multiple abbreviations that are unintelligible to google translate. Like this "[Neustadt / O 25.8.1934] Ausb: Stud (R. Iser) H f M Hanns Eisler Berlin 52-55 Lafb: Mitgl Orch Meininger Th 55-60, Mitgl Orch d Kom Op Berlin 60-00, Doz hFm Hanns Eisler seit 78; Solo-Tourneen m Gruner- u Williams-Tubakonzert in Frankreich, USA, Japan, Ungarn seit 79." And a whole bunch of what appears to be other performances? I could clip it and e-mail it to you, but you'd have to send me an e-mail because it won't let me send a photo though the wikiserver.
