From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer (háblame) 13:20, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Houston Aeros[edit]

Yes, they currently play at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. However, the Houston Aeros practice site is at the Aerodrome in Sugar Land, Texas since the Aerodrome was opened in the 1990s. UH Collegian

Vestal, New York[edit]

Hmmm, weird that someone listed all the stores in the Vestal, New York article. I'll be back in Vestal in August for a bit. I'll take some photos and spice up the article. -newkai | talk | contribs July 8, 2005 19:22 (UTC)

I'm sure potential visitors will be comforted in knowing that Chalupas are obtainable in the Southern Tier, but I think they could find some other aspects of the area to highlight. On the other hand: If they want to use wiki as a promotional pamphlet it should be monitored to make sure its not glazed over into subjective marketing uselessness. Ex: the recent change of the "Parlor City" reference in Binghamton, New York. I don't know what is true: personally I always thought it was a reference to all the bars in town. Objectivism is key, besides we can always make fun of Elmira, New York. ccwaters 9 July 2005 18:42 (UTC)

The AHL[edit]

Thanks! NoseNuggets August 7 2005 8:07 PM EDT

Rampage[edit]

To delete the cleanup, just delete the {{}} tag at the top of the page. Nice work btw.

Horcoff, Pisa, etc.[edit]

Hey, thanks for fixing those links- I didn't realize that we used different pages for teams as their NHL affiliate changed, although it makes sense. Thanks again--Scimitar parley 15:28, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, actually there were 2 franchises called the Hamilton Bulldogs. I'm making copy explaining that for both articles. See Talk:Hamilton Bulldogs for references. ccwaters 15:33, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Go right ahead with the hockey player. VfDing one article doesn't mean that no subsequent article can ever go at that title; it just means that the specific article being discussed at that particular time doesn't belong here. If the name is shared with someone who is more legitimately encyclopedic, you can rewrite or start a new article. Bearcat 00:05, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NJ Devils[edit]

Why did you remove those categories from the New Jersey Devils article? --Cholmes75 21:14, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

They are parents of the New Jersey Devils Category. They are already in those categories via inheritence. ccwaters 21:17, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

CCwaters, excellent work with fixing cats. that is a painstaking job and I commend you for it. Masterhatch 02:49, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, feel free to add what you think belongs in them. Past venues come to mind. Is there any way to watch what gets added into a category? ccwaters 10:54, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I have never bothered to familiarise myself with the categories. I have no idea if there is a way to watch it or not. Sorry. Masterhatch 14:18, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Each user is allowed 3 reverts. It takes 4 reverts for a block to be applicable. Therefore, I have not blocked the IP. I do agree with you on the infobox, though. Ral315 01:29, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the redundancy, oversight on my part. Uvaduck 19:33, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NHL uniforms[edit]

Actually I did not know about nhluniforms.com, but since I looked I have uniforms that will not have licensing issues and these jerseys are different i.e. You will have a home and away unis as different files, including any alternate (by User:Bestghuran, moved from my user pager my me)

ECHL to AHL[edit]

i was not the one who originally posted that info, but both carolina and peoria did indeed move to the ahl....i'll be doing more work on the echl with team by team histories in the days to come. btw, peoria also was in the ihl at one time. it seems that hockey franchises are fairly versatile in that they can come and go with little fuss. i have followed the echl for ten years....my info is guaranteed. WillC 01:19, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1) No. The original IHL Peoria Rivermen became the San Antonio Dragons. They were replaced by the ECHL Rivermen. And now, the peoria ownership bought the Worcester IceCats and swapped them in. The ECHL team is no longer. ( REF: http://www.theahl.com/AHL/News/2004/11/09/707175.html )
2) No. The last revert before you clearly says "team replaced by the AHL's Carolina Monarchs" (REF: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=ECHL&oldid=23603733 )
3) No. You following the ECHL for 10 years is not a reference or a valid guarantee.
4) No. Don't blank valid inquiries on you talk page (REF: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:WillC&oldid=24122112 )
5) No, use my talk page

New current roster[edit]

As you are probably finding out, it's gonna take a lot of work for each team to make the table addition. But I think it is well worth it. After 5 October, I will start on a few teams and help get that new table happening. I will do the Canucks first on 6 October and after that...well, I guess I will just close my eyes and pick a team. Masterhatch 16:29, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, its a chore. Hopefully others will pitch in. I was just going alpha, but if you want to pick up a division, we can do it that way. ccwaters
Alphabetical works. I have been going alpha with the Season-by-season stats for each team (I just finished the Sabres a few hours ago). Well, you can start at "A" and I can start at "W" and hope we meet in the middle somewhere. As for others helping, well, I hope Earl Andrew does a team or two as it was his idea in the first place. Masterhatch 17:34, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

shoots/catches[edit]

I must tell ya that a few days ago while working on the List of NHL one gamers i discovered that when http://www.imdb.com/ says "shoots L", it actually means "Catches L" for goalies. So, be careful of that when adding info about the goalies. It might actually be very difficult to find out if the goalie shoots left or right. It might be so difficult in fact that it might be better to delete that column altogether. Masterhatch 17:41, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just removed "shoots" from the Sens article for the goalies. It'll give people headaches trying to figure out if a goalie shoots left or right. Masterhatch 18:04, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

another possible edit war with the rosters[edit]

It looks like we have another possible edit war on our hands. An IP address user is trying to push this throughout the league. I have already reverted it at Pittsburgh Penguins. Masterhatch 05:36, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

American Hockey League[edit]

Hello Ccwaters. I just finished refactoring Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey. I didn't touch the AHL, though, as I wasn't following the related articles or discussions. If you want to refactor the out-dated parts of that discussion, go for it. It is kinda long. Anyways, I refactored the page because I felt it was a better solution to archiving as there are still many on-going discussions. Masterhatch 17:29, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look at it soon. A lot of it is just me giving status updates on my reformatting project. There are a couple important "threads" about guideslines for franchise continuity and there's a more current discussion about media outlets. ccwaters 17:45, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Votes for deletion[edit]

Ccwaters, have you considered putting your vote in at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of NHL draft busts and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of NHL Draft Steals?

Omaha Knights[edit]

As you suggested, I separated information about the historic Omaha Knights from the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights article. It's not much, but it's a start. –Swid 20:19, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

hockey categories[edit]

Ccwaters, you are a lot more familar with the categories than I am. What cat would you give this article 1921-22 WCHL season? It doesn't seem right to give it an NHL cat. I guess we could create a whole new cat for all of the List of pre-NHL seasons. Also, the WHA seasons don't have categories. I guess we could creat a category for them too. Masterhatch 17:58, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ivan Majesky[edit]

Hi, I have different opinion on place of birth of Ivan Majesky and the flag which should be beside him, but this is not an issue in this my comment, because I wrote my opinion in discussion page. My question is: Why did you erase link to slovak wikipedia? I do not understant this! --Janothird 04:53, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't notice the slovak link, that's all. Sorry. ccwaters 11:51, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WillC[edit]

Hello Ccwaters, Im SWD316. I am just wondering, does it seem WillC is a vandal or is just someone with a attitude problem? SWD316 talk to me 00:33, 26 October 2005 (UTC) [reply]

No he's not a vandal. He's just stubborn, which is much worse in my opinion. See further up on my talk page and Talk:ECHL. He likes to blank his user talk too, so check that out. Are you planning on doing something about it? He's seemed to have quited down recently. ccwaters 00:47, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If I ever become an admin I might do something to make him see to reason more. You should see my talk page archive of his conversations with me. He said I should grow up and he also thinks I should be considered a vandal and block me! Uhh... hello! Earth to WillC! Only admins have the power to block people. He even went as far as putting the "Next time you vandalize, you will be blocked" template on my page! But until he acts up again, I wouldn't do anything. But someone should really tell him not to delete his user talk conversations. SWD316 talk to me 21:14, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nashua Telegraph[edit]

They have scores and summaries every now and then in their offline editions, but they don't focus on the teams. Another media source you might want to put on for the Monarchs is the Hippo Press Karmafist 20:50, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said, the Telegraph have scores and summaries every now and then, but it's not their focus. They focus more on local High School coverage and Boston Pro Teams as well as Nashua Pride coverage in the summer. As for the Hippo, they do columns every now and then, but they're a weekly and give a different perspective, such as this. A good person to talk to would be DavidWBrooks, since he's an admin and also works for the Telegraph. Karmafist 22:03, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know where was anything to "admit". The Telegraph has game summaries every now and then, but they do cover the teams on occasion. That's what I said at first. The Hippo does likewise with the Monarchs from an entertainment angle. It's not a big deal either way. Karmafist 15:57, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I hadn't really thought about it, but IMHO, it seems "local media" should list the newspaper (or other media) that covers a team the most, not those which cover it at all. So in these cases I would say, although I hope my boss never sees this, that the Telegraph shouldn't be listed for the Lock Monsters or the Monarchs. (Otherwise the first should also have the Lawrence paper, and the second should also have the Concord paper.) - DavidWBrooks 01:24, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing wrong in saying that. I'm sure its a great publication, it just doesn't cover those 2 teams. ccwaters 11:00, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Promotion" of website[edit]

You left a message relative to "promoting" our website. We offer content on the AHL that is relevent, just as we do on other minor leagues. The Wikipedia makes available relevant links to information resources that provide real content (news, history, articles). There is nothing inappropriate about doing that under the Wiki rules. The references left were valid. We contribute hundreds of our articles to Wikipedia gratis each year, and help add and edit numerous stories. We are also developing another public project, Open Source Sports Directory to catalog the players from 1900 to the present in the league.

We have cooperated with the editors of the other sports sections. We would appreciate your cooperation as well.

The purpose of allowing outbound links is to connect people up to content searches that will assist them. Minor League News (MLN) has been around since 2000, with reporters who regularly reported on the AHL back before the Wikipedia was even a concept.

If you apply this rule to us, then we'll be asking that you strip all references to Sports Illustrated or Baseball America or the Hockey News from the Wiki as well.

Sincerely,

Brian Ross MLN Sports

You contributed absolutely nothing except redundant categories with links to you own publication's article that reads like an advertisement. ccwaters 20:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

We included links that take readers to access points to AHL content. We usually try to match up the most relevant point (article or section) to the information in Wikipedia. Again, there are other similiar hockey links on the same page. If you allow one, I fail to see the distinction to the other, unless of course you have some vested interest in promoting publications other than ours.

?? You've contributed nothing related to the AHL : Special:Contributions/Mlnsports. What other publication are you talking about? No, I'm neither selfish, egotistical, or entrepreneurial enough to mention anything I've done elsewhere. Any way, I don't pretend to be the sole judge here: get a third party involved if it bothers you. ccwaters 03:25, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
