Linus Omark[edit]

The Oilogosphere is the most active hockey blog community on the Internet. When someone posts something in reference to a player named "Youtube", the player they are talking about is Linus Omark. Just like Dustin Penner is the Flying Fridge. I pointed to a blog on the Oilogosphere that demonstrated the use of this nickname, so I don't know why you declared that to be insufficient proof of his nickname. Or are you saying that Youtube isn't his nickname? Genius McSmarts (talk) 20:44, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BIA[edit]

Okay, sorry, I'm new to Wikipedia, and I didn't understand that you're in Pennsylvania.

I'll do my homework and learn more about how it works.

BIA means 'Business Improvement Area' - it's an unholy alliance of local businesses and politicians common in Ottawa.

It seems weird that I have to convince YOU that my community link is legitimate, but I can see why it's necessary.

So I'll get to work on that.

Thanks and have a nice day, Craig — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ottawaowl2 (talkcontribs) 15:55, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Template:Infobox NHL Draft[edit]

The error seems to be in the last line of the template which creates the link to the following year:

{{#ifeq:{{{year}}}|{{CURRENTYEAR}}| <!-- do nothing, so avoid redlink display --->|'''[[{{#expr:{{{year|{{CURRENTYEAR}}}}}+1}} {{#ifexpr:{{{year|{{CURRENTYEAR}}}}} > 1948|NHL|BAA}} Entry Draft|{{#expr:{{{year|{{CURRENTYEAR}}}}}+1}} > ]]'''}}

It looks wrong at the first place, because the default behavior should be to generate the link to the following year, not to do nothing. It should be replaced by some expressing using {{#ifexist: page title | value if exists | value if doesn't exist }} as a base. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 22:27, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Suspended NHL players[edit]

At the time, I did not know suspended NHL players were still active; I was following the NFL when their players are suspended they can be replaced on the active roster. There was no way to include their suspended status on the roster itself (like the injury status) so I just hid them. But you be assured that if another editor had reverted those players, it would have remain unchange (especially after I saw the Devils & Islanders' gameday rosters). lauren o'connell[edit]

hello... trying to work out how my article doesn't meet wp:music... i know that city newspaper is a weekly publication localized to northwestern new york state but it's notable enough to be included in wikipedia so i though that it was good enough to use as a source... the other sources are national... the article in the atlantic refers to her collaboration with nataly dawn and does mention her in the first paragraph... since dawn is a notable musician associated with a notable band according to wikipedia i thought that was good enough to use as a source... filter magazine is a noted national music magazine published quarterly... the word is a well established music magazine in the uk... noisenoisenoise is an online music magazine from the uk... as far as i can tell all are reliable sources... i believe she meets criteria for a major music competition as she placed in the top finalists in the 2010 newsong contest which is a major national songwriting and performance competition for independent artists in america and canada... and she was mentioned in press releases made by the contest sponsor newsong recordings which is an established independent label as well as press release by the venue where the contest was held and one by broadcast music inc which is a well known and respected music representation firm... since none of them are reprints or advertising but original press releases that have no self promotion by her or any of the musicians featured in them i thought that they were acceptable... i also sourced an international contest held by musician am that she won... i'm fairly certain that it doesn't count as a major competition but he is another notable musician according to wikipedia so again i thought that it would be acceptable... the other sources are partially youtube videos that i used to reference instrumentation and musical style as well as a video interview... i thought that with all of the other references these would be ok to use... if i'm not mistaken you marked the article for deletion the first time before i moved it to my user page to fix it... since you seem to know more about this than me how can i keep my article from being considered for deletion... i've read the music notability page and it appears to me that she meets the criteria if only for the newsong contest... i've seen articles that have way less notability that haven't been deleted or even considered for deletion so i'm confused about this... if you could please let me know how to fix this or who i need to talk to i'd really appreciate it Max bemis is pretty cool (talk) 17:39, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Carter Hutton has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The subject of this article does not appear to meet the general notability guideline or the WP:NHOCKEY guideline for ice hockey players. I am unable to find significant coverage of this person in third party sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Onthegogo (talk) 14:45, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AfD of Michael Chaput speedily closed[edit]

I closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Chaput in accordance with WP:NAC on the grounds that it was opened in the wrong forum. Deletion discussions for redirect pages are done at Redirects for discussion.

In the interest of full disclosure, I discovered after closing the AfD that I contested a prod on this page on 19 February 2011 on the grounds that notability guidelines do not apply to redirect pages. Per WP:R it is perfectly acceptable to have a redirect page from a person or subject that does not meet notability guidelines to a related person or subject that does meet notability guidelines. For this reason I will not procedurally list this at RfD as I ordinarily do when I come across deletion discussions in the wrong forum. If you still believe this redirect should be deleted you may list it at WP:RFD, but please read WP:RFD#DELETE before doing so. —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:53, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Zigi Palffy and other Slovak personalities[edit]

Hello, thank you for your opinion in the article about Zigmund Palffy. But pushing fake origin from obscure sources is not only case of Zigmund Palffy. Hungarian sources usualy mark as Hungarian all persons with Hungarian surname, but these people are often from Slovak families with Slovak ancestors. For example ice-hockey player Ladislav Nagy is from Saca (only 60 hungarians in town and 4300 slovaks), his family is Slovak, just his surname is Hungarian. Similary disputes are in articles about Balázs Borbély, Krisztián Németh (Slovak footballer), Attila Szabó (Slovak canoer), Péter Molnár (footballer). Similary disputes about Slovak politicians of Hungarian origin: [1], [2], [3]. It also affect the Slovak historical personalities. On the other hand if we have a people from present day Slovakia with 100% Slovak ethnicity than Hungarian editors delete it, for example Alajos Szokolyi or Tamás Priskin, who gained Hungarian citizenship only in 2005. Result is, that here is just a few Slovakian editors, and planty of Hungarian editors whose spetialization are such disputes. The have a double measure. On the one hand, for them are all persons from historical Hungarian Kingdom (present day Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania and Croatia) Hungarians. On the other hand each person from Slovakia, Romania, Serbia and Croatia with Hungarian surnames are Hungarians. This situation is here from 2008, when started economical crisis in Hungary and rise of nationalism. Slovaks are here in small minority, coz history and ethnic disputes (often fakeing) is probably national sport in Hungary. Its not such country that about 10-20 editors are specialized to find Hungarian ancestors of Slovaks, changeing Slovak geographical names to Hungarian. They often contact admins if Slovak editors has an different opinion [4] and canvassing. Now almost all Slovak editors are banned or topic banned. Its good future for Wikipedia if 10-20 editors has a monopol for Point of View and neutrality is forgotten. --Samofi (talk) 08:19, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited 2011–12 Philadelphia Flyers season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page WHL (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I just wanted to move this off of the ice hockey project and to your talk page. First, I am in no way offended by you deleting, or requesting deletion of my page. As I have said before and as I believe: Wikipedia exists for the benefit of all. Not everything in the world can be notable. So I am in no way offended. Second, on the bottom of the prod tag that you issued is a statement which directs you to leave information regarding the prod on the creators talk page. Lastly, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I appreciate it and look forward to working on projects involving ice hockey in the future. Good day! keystoneridin! Jason Spezza[edit]

But almost every notable hockey player has statistics like these, especially if your "top 5" in certains categories (past or present). Spezza is top in the list of achievements for those seasons. It's not a directory, and it's not violating any rules I see, and is notable. (See also Sidney Crosby, Joe Sakic, Wayne Gretzky, etc, etc.) If you want to omit anything not in the Top 5 for Spezza, sounds good. But being in the Top 5 for scoring or ppg is significant enough to mention.

HonestopL 16:11, 06 Sepetmber 2012 (UTC)

Your kind of splitting hairs here - you have on most notable Hockey Players pages with Statistics like these (which doesn't mean it violates the "Wikipedia:NOT#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and guidelines Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ice_Hockey/Structure".

That's pretty vague, as it could include all or none of the stats dealing with ANYTHING. If you feel that none of these types of stats should belong (including all-time stats, with these lists like with Mario, Wayne, etc), I suggest you bring it up at up and set clearer definitions (that are acceptable and comply with wikipeidia's own definitions)

Plus wikipedia is not a playground to say "one" is acceptable, while "the others" aren't, it's clearly written in what in states. You just can't list every little stat, I get that, but important ones are (and always have been) notable.

What you're describing and I am, are one in the same. Having some achievements that lists "(Top 5)" statistics is not an "indiscriminate collection of information and guidelines", you could say that about all these Hockey Players pages that include any type of statistic or information. That's the way I look at it, but let's find some middle ground :) I see your perspective and just telling you mine. HonestopL 23:25, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Erie Monsters[edit]

Regarding the Monsters...

The AHL and the Monsters themselves recognize the franchise as beginning in 2007 as an expansion team, with all of the Utah Grizzlies records and history ataached to the ECHL team of the same name.

This is like the situation with the Browns and Ravens in the NFL. All of the Browns' history/records are attached to the current Browns, and the Ravens are recognized by the NFL and the team itself as a 1996 expansion team.

Wikipedia policy is to honor the wishes of the teams and reflect their records and histories. Wiki does so with the Browns and Ravens, and it's the same deal here with the Monsters and Grizzlies.

Whatever the team and league says is law, because it's their histories and records, and it's not Wikipedias job to counter it.

Thank you.

Vjmlhds 19:27, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have showed me enough evidence to where I will stand down. The Monsters have never publically acknowledged their connections to Utah, which is where the confusion came from. I was of the belief that it was a similar situation like the Browns/Ravens in the NFL. But I have seen enough to be convinced otherwise. Vjmlhds 18:52, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
