The article First Cabinet of P.W. Botha has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. -©2015 Compassionate727(Talk)(Contributions) 14:59, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cabinets of South Africa Help[edit]

Try these for help:

I hope it helps. Mr Hall of England (talk) 20:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the links. They don't have any official sources sadly, neither do I. So I'm in the process of getting the Official Yearbooks for each year from the National Archives, here in SA. -- That Video Shop Guy (talk) 20:50, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Could you email them me please to have a look? My address is danielhall2511@yahoo.co.uk Mr Hall of England (talk) 19:32, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the cabinets be: UNION

  • First Cabinet of Louis Botha 1910–1915
  • Second Cabinet of Louis Botha 1915–1919
  • First Cabinet of Jan Smuts 1919–1920
  • Second Cabinet of Jan Smuts 1920–1924
  • The JBM Hertzog are fine.
  • Third Cabinet of Jan Smuts 1939–1943
  • Fourth Cabinet of Jan Smuts 1943–1948
  • First Cabinet of DF Malan 1948–1953
  • Second Cabinet of DF Malan 1953–1954
  • First Cabinet of Hans Strydom 1954–1958
  • Second Cabinet of Hans Strydom 1958
  • First Cabinet of Hendrik Verwoerd 1958–1961

The Cabinets of both Botha and Smuts have there current updates by me.

Hope it helps. If any are PC make sure that the are Rt Hon

-- Mr Hall of England (talk) 20:09, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The guy who handles all photocopies of the archived material is getting back to me this week. As soon as I receive the yearbooks, I'll email them to you and probably upload them to commons (if they fall under public domain - at least the ones till 1965 are). Here is a link to the online yearbooks from 2001 till now - http://www.gcis.gov.za/content/resourcecentre/sa-info/yearbook

Perhaps it is a matter of preference here. In the Republic and Union the head of government (who was elected in the general election) appoints the cabinet, if they die or resign (as in the case of Botha, Hertzog, Malan and Strydom) their deputy or an elected minister takes over. That person who takes over was not elected as head of government in a general election, so to me they are more of a caretaker until the term end. This logic should apply to recent history with Motlanthe taking over when Mbeki resigned. Bluntly put, people elect the original head of government and not their deputy. That said, perhaps if there is a complete overall of the cabinet it may justify a separate article (as in the case of Smuts taking over when Hertzog resigned). Yet, I still can't justify it being called his cabinet when he wasn't elected in a general election - rather he "stole" (to use an emotive word) the government from Hertzog in 1939. Thoughts?

I will correct all the titles for the MPs once I get the Yearbooks, currently they are addressed as Hon. MP. But we were part of the Commonwealth during the Union, so I agree it's probably correct to say Rt. Hon. MP. Also would love to know if they have the title of General, is it displaced during their time in office. Same goes for any of the Knighted ones.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Minister of Environmental Affairs (South Africa), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 12:18, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Idea for you[edit]

For the South African cabinets I recommend this for a template:

Would you agree? Mr Hall of England (talk) 16:10, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you already started changing the Hertzog cabinets, to me it's very confusing. It doesn't give a clear picture of the shuffle during a term under each department. It makes the person have to remember who the previous cabinet member was. I see you also started combing the table by person, rather than department. Perhaps each table should have a sort option, but sorting by person diminishes the importance of the ministry. Also, the reason I left some end-dates with a "-" was to represent a continuation of their term into the next cabinet. Each shuffle has a story and it was my intention to write a paragraph on each shuffle under the imaginative title of SHUFFLES. I based the South African cabinet tables on England's tables:

What was your issue with the original design? That Video Shop Guy (talk) 16:22, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing really. I like the design though. I am just improving them though. Mr Hall of England (talk) 19:31, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SA Charts[edit]

Hi. Do you have any RS for SA music charts from the 90's? I am interested in creating band articles and this would help establish notability Gbawden (talk) 09:07, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Gbawden, I've tried to get RiSA to send me their statistics. Like you, I'd also like to see more local bands / artists on wikipedia - but no luck. The closest I found to getting some chart stats was to use the 5fm and MetroFM sites with the Web Archive tool. This is a pain, mostly incomplete lists, and only really date back to 1998 / 1999. The official South African charts of record and single sales are controlled by RiSA, but heaven forbid they release these stats to the public domain. - That Video Shop Guy (talk) 18:54, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
