Chris Lynch[edit]

The article Chris Lynch (Footballer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non notable football player

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stormbay (talk) 03:41, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Nicky Clee, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nicky Clee. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. BigDom 16:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Halstead[edit]

In reply to your query, I nominated Mark Halstead for deletion because the only team he has played for is Hyde United, in the Conference North, so he fails WP:ATHLETE, which requires that players make at least one first-team appearance in a fully professional competition. Cheers, BigDom 17:35, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, if he plays in a fully-pro match, there's nothing to stop the article being re-created. BigDom 17:40, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I bet you think I've been picking on you somewhat this evening, but the fact is that ATHLETE is a long-standing guideline that football articles have to meet. Also, more seriously, regarding the pictures, you really shouldn't try to pass off images that you've found on the Internet as your own. Not trying to put you off editing or anything, new contributors are always welcome, I'm just letting you know for the future. BigDom 17:46, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 17:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Verification?[edit]

Do you have a source for all the nationalities that you have added on the Chester team, or is it based on assumption? Kevin McE (talk) 18:29, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You should be aware that the standard for including "information" is verifiability, not personal knowledge, and certainly not "90%" certainty. You really should revert your posting of those nationalities until you can provide evidence if challenged. Kevin McE (talk) 05:53, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"I know for a fact" is not encyclopaedic verification. Did you read the link to that fundamental rule of Wikipedia? Kevin McE (talk) 17:25, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tomáš Kalas[edit]

I would assume so; he was a member of the first team squad last season and had the number 28 according to this, so I guess he'll have a number next season. Mattythewhite (talk) 12:14, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hyde United FA[edit]

Please do not add the {{Featured article}} star to articles that have not been through the Featured Article nomination process. If you really want to nominate the Hyde F.C. article (although I wouldn't recommend it at the moment because it's nowhere near meeting the criteria), follow the instructions here. Cheers, BigDom 12:55, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hyde F.C. Good article nomination[edit]

I saw your GA nom of Hyde F.C. at WP:GAN. You were suppose to add a template to the Hyde talk page, but don't worry for I have done this. As for the article, it is likely to receive a quick fail due to the lack of sources (only four). Suggest adding sources to the article by the time a reviewer comes along. Regards. Christopher Connor (talk) 03:12, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've done the GA review, which you can see here. I haven't quick-failed the article but I have noted that there's an awful lot of work needed, particularly as Christopher Connor said above adding to the completely inadequate number of citations and tidying up the writing. The review is now on hold for seven days to give you an opportunity to do what needs to be done to meet the GA criteria. Malleus Fatuorum 18:28, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image uploads[edit]

Are the images you have uploaded today, such as File:James Milner Debut.jpg and File:Sébastien Squillaci Training.jpg screengrabs from TV or somesuch? The information embedded in the files says they were taken using a cameraphone. If you have taken a photo of a TV broadcast, then these photos are not suitable for Wikipedia, as they are derivative works of a copyrighted TV broadcast. Oldelpaso (talk) 16:12, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Shaun Whalley.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. BigDom 09:40, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2010–11 Hyde F.C. season has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

As agreed here and confirmed here, clubs lower than the Conference National are deemed below the notability threshold for season articles.

—Half Price 18:39, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of 2010–11 Hyde F.C. season for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article 2010–11 Hyde F.C. season, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2010–11 Hyde F.C. season until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. —Half Price 15:45, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Mark Halstead.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Mark Halstead.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:49, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shaun Whalley[edit]

Hey, good work with the article so far. I'd recommend you start a peer review for the article (which you can look up about here, it's pretty simple to set up), which will allow users to leave comments about the article. I'd be happy to contribute and if you need any help with this give me a message. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 23:15, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure I want to after this! But seriously, I should be able to leave some feedback tomorrow. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 23:47, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review[edit]

Hi there, I've left a list of comments and suggestions on the Peer Review for Shaun Whalley. It looks like a lot, but they're mostly minor corrections that I've learned from my own experiences of writing Good Articles. Cheers, BigDom talk 19:08, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If I have time over the weekend (I probably will) I'll have a go at expanding the Early career section. There's always a couple of things that can be added to any article. I don't know if it will help, but you may like to look at a GA that I wrote, Clarke Carlisle, to have a look at the sort of things that might be included and the kind of writing that the GA reviewers are looking for. Cheers, BigDom talk 20:14, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, if I get time (should be able to tomorrow night) I'll do the lead as well. Once the rest of the article is written, the lead's pretty easy because you can just take a couple of sentences from each section. BigDom talk 21:23, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just started to expand the text, add a few sources etc. It's strange because I created the article over 4 years ago and his career's changed so much since then. Cheers, BigDom talk 20:59, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I will just haven't got much spare time at the moment but will get around to it, sorry it's taking a while. BigDom talk 20:41, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Got a bit more done today, its coming along slowly but surely. Will expand the info about Accrington next and then see what I can do with the Wrexham and Droyslden bit but that will be harder because its non-league. Its taking a while but there's no rush really, its not like GA is going to close down or anything. BigDom talk 22:24, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IP block exempt[edit]

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. Nev1 (talk) 15:42, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just letting you know that IP block exempt has been removed as the autoblock should long since have expired. Nev1 (talk) 23:22, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shaun Whalley[edit]

I've reviewed it. Please address the issues on the review page. KnowIG (talk) 23:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for being lame. Busy week. Anyway. Lead should have 3 paragraphs accuatley summing up the article. You have one and then 2 paragraphs which are two sentences and a sentence. Think about it for yourself, if your stuck then I'll clarify what you have asked for. Considering that I have already given numerous suggestions through the rest of the article. P.s. I noticed you stuck a banner asking for it to be Copy edited. May I suggest that you remove the banner and make your request here as it will be delt with far quicker. KnowIG (talk) 17:04, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen more action on my talk page than on Whalley's page from you. You've done nothing to the article apart from an update of stats and upload and remove a banner. I suggest you have a go at some of the suggestions and apply some common sense. I.e. if you feel that you want to include a goal then great. From my view all I've seen is a bit of moaning/questioning and no action lets make it the other way round. KnowIG (talk) 09:26, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
2 things before I'll promote the article. Firstly don't if this was you or from the copyedit but "Whalley scored his first goal of the new year in a 2–1 victory over local rivals Stalybridge Celtic[42] and in the quarter final of the Manchester Premier Cup against his old club Droylsden,[43] which proved to be his last for the club" doesn't read right to me. Full stop after Celtic. Then "Whalley played his last game for the club against his former team Droylsden in the Manchester Premier Cup".

Accrington Stanley, last third of the section needs a couple of refs for the specific games that you mention. e.g. the Peterborough game, the injury in 07 and the rovers return match. Thats all. Gateshead semi in the return to non league needs sourcing. 4 sources and the sentence above and your done. KnowIG (talk) 09:11, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shaun Whalley GA[edit]

Well done getting the article to GA! I didn't mind helping out, and if there's any other articles you're planning to work on I'll have a look over them for you again. Cheers, BigDom 20:16, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Epic picture of you Monarch wing view: please put it on Commons. If you can tell me where it was going to and what time (flight number would be ven better) then i can get the registration of the aircraft for you. MKY661 (talk) 21:31, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Go to commons and type in Special:Upload and then write your details there. You can also use commons photos on Wikipedia as well. PS: what was the date of the flight, thought the flight was on 31 March. --MKY661 (talk) 12:31, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, i will struggle to get the reg then. Try looking on Monarch's website for details on their flight. (If the aircraft was an A320-200 then even better) --MKY661 (talk) 16:53, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If that date is correct, the registration was G-OZBU, Monarch's newest aircraft (and youngest) --MKY661 (talk) 17:48, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can use www.libhomeradar.org to find the reg. Majority of flights are avalible from June 2008. --MKY661 (talk) 21:50, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copy/paste of your draft[edit]

Hi there, a new user, Jvanjonder (talk · contribs), has copy/pasted the contents of your draft article, User:Liamtaylor007/Dale Johnson, into article space (see Dale Johnson (footballer)). I've tagged the article for a histmerge so that the edits you have made are properly attributed. That being said, it's you draft, so if you don't want it in article space at all I'm pretty sure your allowed to tag it as a copyvio, but it looks like a pretty solid article to me (although I'm not sure he passes WP:NFOOTY; WP:GNG is, of course, another question). So yeah, it's your call really whether you want it out in article space or if you want it to be deleted so you can work on it more in your user space. Feel free to give me a shout if you think I've handled this the wrong way or if you have any questions (I'll try and answer 'em and if I can't I'll pass it onto someone who can). Cheers, Jenks24 (talk) 19:19, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined speedy[edit]

Hi, I declined the speedy deletion of SV 1936 Saasen as the article made a credible claim of importance or significance: 2007 Champion and promotion to the A-Bezirksklsse Alsfeld. The speedy deletion process is very specific, that only articles that make no claim whatsoever are eligible and this is not the case here. However, there is nothing to stop you taking the article to AfD or adding a PROD template. Cheers, BigDom (talk) 14:05, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think there's a good chance the article will be deleted at AfD. It's good that you learn from mistakes; I've seen you around since you first started editing and you've definitely improved! Keep it up, BigDom (talk) 14:17, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of SCAN numbers on 2011–12 Stockport County F.C. season and change of table[edit]

I changed the table on that page so you can tell the difference between a player starting and a sub appearance as you can't do it with the table you have changed it back to. I also added the SCAN numbers to the players names because its unique to them and its something that only Stockport County do (recognising every player that has played for them) so I believe that it is necessary and makes the article more referenced and official. wna247 (talk) 21:38, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re-addition of SCAN numbers on 2011–12 Stockport County F.C. season[edit]

I have also added the forest green match score and updated the table references will be added when the officail report is added to the official website wna247 (talk) 22:24, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid the most recent copy I own is the 2009-10 edition (which covers players from the 2008-09 season), so I don't have access to details for this player from the PFA books. I've just searched to see when the 2011-12 edition is due out and it seems the PFA has turned its hog out and won't be publishing one. Great shame. 2011–12 Stockport County F.C. season ideas[edit]

As you have probably seen when cleaning up the page , I have been adding multiple references lately. Now I know you are not a Stockport fan but I have an idea for the page and I wanted a second opinion on it.

I would add a player awards bit in the statistics section an reference the award the player got. For example if a player was in the team of the day I would put it in and reference that they were in it as well as write about it in the review section.

Also I have added a good article nomination to the page and I didn't know if it was suitable enough for one yet but considering 2010–11 York City F.C. season has good article status I though, well why cant the page I edit.

anyway if you can get back to me that would be great. wna247 (talk) 01:22, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've noticed that and will try and see if it can be fixed. It only started acting up after I resized it so I'll see if reverting to the original size fixes it (not that that should do anything, really). Anyway, I use a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS (14.1 MP, 14x Optical Zoom), although the quality of pictures in the dark is woeful without the flash on (see this as an example - and it wasn't even that dark by that time). Although judging by this picture, your camera seems to be coping fine in the dark. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:17, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:GodwinAbadaki.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:38, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shaun Whalley[edit]

I'm afraid not; Whalley didn't feature in any York-Southport games I've taken photos at. And a quick flickr search yields no appropriately licenced images. Sorry to disappoint! Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 18:09, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2012–13 Hyde F.C. season, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Ben Wright (footballer) and Forest Green (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I would like to have a chance to improve the article. It was only created yesterday two days ago, and there is way more that I'd like to do with it. Going to the links that you provided me with, it seems there are two seasons (at least), 2001–02 Newport County A.F.C. season and 2005–06 Gateshead F.C. season which are below the Conference National level, and yet those pages have survived the deletion process. And from a quick look at those AfD pages, there are several other seasons as well that have not been deleted.

While I do admit that the team is currently a semi-professional club in a level below the Conference National I believe that the page should be allowed to stay on the basis that the club has received a significant amount of coverage in the past, due to the circumstances surrounding its formation and their victory in the FA Cup over a League Two side. The club has been criticized in the past by Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of a Premier League side, and the club has received significantly more attention, both regionally and nationally, than lower league clubs.

I believe that the page should be allowed to stay (at least for the time being, to allow me a chance to develop it) based on the fact that the club has gained a reputation throughout the country and is perhaps today more notable than even some teams in the Conference National level, such as Braintree Town, for example (2011–12 Braintree Town F.C. season). Red Rebel 05 (talk) 20:55, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not to mention the fact that the previous discussions occurred in 2009 and 2010. Would the article for the 2010-11 season be deleted as well? After all, that is the season that they gained a huge reputation across England for having defeated Rochdale (a League Two club) in the FA Cup, a prestigious tournament. That was the highest league finish in the short history of the club, and they pulled off a major upset that received a lot of attention nationally. Even though it was a season in a league below the Conference National, it was still a remarkable achievement that is very well documented. Red Rebel 05 (talk) 20:59, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I am fully aware of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. But I would like to add that 2012–13 Eastleigh F.C. season and 2011–12 Eastleigh F.C. season both exist, and those seasons were spent in the Conference South (below the "cut-off". The 2011-12 season page was created in November 2011. It has only just recently been up for deletion this past August, and it has also survived (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2011–12 Eastleigh F.C. season). It was ruled as "no consensus" but the arguments seem to be that the article is sufficient if it is well-written, and prose, not just statistics. The page has 119 references. So the potential for a lower-league season article to be properly developed is definitely there.
I believe that the "consensuses" reached in 2009 and 2010 are outdated, and that there are more recent examples to support allowing 2012–13 F.C. United of Manchester season to stay. Red Rebel 05 (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
1889–90 Sheffield United F.C. season is a good article, and the club didn't even play in an actual league that season. Only the FA Cup (eliminated in the same round as FCUM in 2010-11), some small regional tournaments, and a lot of friendlies. Red Rebel 05 (talk) 21:18, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Using Hyde FC images[edit]

Hi, Liam

I'm writing on behalf of Together In Tameside. We're a young organisation seeking to bring the people of Tameside closer together, through sharing of local activities and events. Hyde FC (along with Staylbridge Celtic and Droylsden) therefore form a key part of our sports updates.

We're after someone to assist us in providing images as the season continues, and therefore would be eternally grateful if you would agree to us using your images in our posts (with full credit, of course).

Could you please kindly contact us to let us have your comments, and to discuss things further, if you'd like? We can be contacted at: togetherintameside@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Together in Tameside. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TogetherInTameside (talkcontribs) 23:36, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Images on Wikimedia Commons[edit]

Hi, just so you know a number of images you uploaded at Wikimedia Commons have been nominated for deletion. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 11:09, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In case you're unaware the images have been deleted, for them to be restored you'll need to e-mail OTRS. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 13:30, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, could you indicate whether you will be e-mailing OTRS, so I know if I can sort out the images on the affected pages e.g. Alex Lawless? Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 09:30, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, if I have time I will do, i am very busy at the moment and haven't got much time for Wikipedia! So if I don't get around to it then i will sort it out at a later date and upload them straight from the camera. As putting them on my mates j-album seems to be a problem! cheers, --LiamTaylor 17:02, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, do you know when this image was taken? Because the current date (24 August 2011) doesn't match with any Hyde matches around then. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 19:39, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:AdamGriffinHyde.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:AdamGriffinHyde.jpg, which you've attributed to Uploaded lists another user as author while claiming ownership in release. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
