can we sort something out

hey Railfan23 (talk) this addition that i put up is just a fun reference for an australian radio show. i am going to put it up again and can you please just leave it up for at least 4-5 hours. the radio show starts in about 30 minutes and it is just a small experiment to see if i win something. after about 4-5 hours you can delete the post and i will never bother you again.

hello Railfan23 (talk) can you please leave this post up for 2 hours, realistically who is going to visit the yucca plant page in the next two hours. i can put up a disclaimer if you wish but it is just a bit of fun as well. i dont think it is unreasonable to put a bit of fun on a website for two hours on a page where not many people will visit. i will put a disclaimer on the post but please just let it be on the site for two hours. also if the radio show sees it people around australia will have a laugh and they will probably send me some merchandise. please dont be that one person who doesnt want a bit of fun on website for a little bit of time so people cant have a laugh

Galleries in articles

Hi, I see that in some articles, such as Corris Railway and Mawddwy Railway, you have moved the images into galleries. Please don't do that, the relevant policy is WP:IG. Also, please try to keep images to a reasonable size (see MOS:IMGSIZE) - some of those at Corris Railway are over 300px wide, one of them (File:Grand Tour Charabancs.jpg) is 475px wide, which is excessive. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:15, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

I've reverted the use of galleries in the Corris and Mawddwy Railway articles. It's a pity to lose them, as they make it possible include some important photos of the railways that otherwise won't fit - especially in the Corris article. I also don't read the Galleries policy the same way that you do. I agree that the sizes needed work, but that's fixable within galleries and is not itself a reason not to use galleries. Lord Herbert Vane-Tempest

As you say, Manchester's book states that Winston Churchill inherited from Lord Herbert, who was his father's first cousin. However, Lord Herbert's will makes no mention of Churchill - he leaves bequests to his sister Viscountess Allendale, his cousin Francis Vane Tempest, Captain Fortesque RN, Marcus Milner of the Turf Club, Hon. H Stonor, Lucas (sic), and various servants, with the residuary legatee being his nephew, the 7th Marquess of Londonderry (who was also his executor). No mention of Churchill at all. Unless the 7th Marquess decided to pass on some of the inheritance it seems Manchester was wrong. Unfortunately he is no longer alive to query the information. It's an interesting question. Margaret Foster's biography of the 7th. Duchess of Marlborough, seems to be relevant. See this page. It appears that her bequest to her grandsons (including Herbert) meant that he had to give the money from her to Winston. Railfan23 (talk) 16:25, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Foster states that a trust was set up by Frances Vane, Marchioness of Londonderry, Herbert's grandmother, to benefit her four grandsons who were not due to inherit titles, and their male offspring. No worries. Incidentally, I've found that both Willans (who was misspelled on the High Sheriffs of Montgomeryshire list) and Walton have pre-existing Wikidata entries due to DNB entries; I've linked to them. I've cited Walton's ODNB entry (it's written by Gillian Cookson, who looks pretty qualified). I don't have access to it right now but it's worth noting that since she says born 1802 or 3 it looks like she doesn't trust his obituaries. I've cited it. Quite so. This user's been at it for ages, all over the place. I've caught quite a few of them. They're also the one who persistently adds the typo "is a distinct in" to articles about London. Pret a manger

You said on my talk page that there was more than one article that said Hyman was the founder of Pret. Please try not to be facetious. What i am trying to say is that there is a wealth of information (700+) citing metcalfe and beecham as founders. There are probably no more than 3 articles that state Hyman is the founder. One is his obituary, the other is an article on the website of a company he founded, and the the other is a metro article written about the pret advertising story in 2018 taken almost word for word form the pret wikipedia page. I dont understand how a user who have edited so many good articles can reach such a strange and nonsensical conclusion. If the grocer published an article tomorrow saying jeff bezos bought the name amazon from my lemonade stand would you police the Amazon ltd page and relentlessly battle to list me as founder of Amazon? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cos02125 (talk • contribs) 21:33, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Railfan, it seems there is some confusion on the pret a manger page. From what i can see Metcalfe and beecham founded the company Pret a manger incoperated in 1986, that is famous today. Hyman founded the first pret a manger which was liquidated in 1985 and sold its name to Metcalfe and beecham. It is clear Hyman founded the first pret a manger, but listing him on this page as founder could be confusing him as founder of the current Pret. It would also be wrong to list metcalfe and beecham as they could be confused vice vera. I think tis best therefore to leave the founder section blank and decicate the page to both companies, and let the history section describe the complicated scenario. Is this really vandalism?

Hi, I'm the one who made an edit about "Edgar Allan Poe's Murder Mystery Dinner Party" on the HG Wells page. (No, I don't have an account. I should get on that.) I was a bit confused when I saw that you'd reverted my edit due to "vandalism." Rail transport in Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

You made an edit today that replaced the generic Narrow gauge railways category with the more specific Narrow gauge railroads in the United States category, which I reverted. The Matrix

Somehow I got accuse of violating wikipedia's "neutral point of view" policy just for pointing out that Christianity was one of the central religious themes in that movie along with Buddhism, and for eliminating feminism (which was never a theme in The Matrix to begin with). Wikipedia is hardly neutral at all (especially when certain entries are locked). No wonder people get an F for citing it in school. By changing the list, you not only misrepresented the source - see WP:V - but you also inserted your personal interpretation of The Matrix's themes for those of the source - see WP:NPOV. Cloud Atlas

I can see that "innovative" is NPOV. Can you please tell me what other edits at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cloud_Atlas_(film)&diff=894008186&oldid=894003214 are NPOV? I know some are correct and helpful. There is the whole issue of Plot vs Story and I've heard there might be a MOS for calling the story as a "plot" on wikipedia articles for films, do you know if that is true? Unsigned signature thingys

FYI: Recently on User talk:Shesaplumper you signed an unsigned post. I am not sure what template you used but the signature ended up not having a time-date stamp and was also mangled. I always use {{subst:unsigned|user name or IP|date}} - this template (when properly filled-out) formats the missing signature and also adds a time-stamp. Assuming an archiving bot might be instituted on the user's talkpage at some point, posts that don't have a time-date stamp will be ignored and left behind on the talkpage by the bots. Esgairgeiliog

You stated that "..a new road was driven between the village and Aberangell". Looking at the OS map it is difficult to work out what route such a road could have taken, although the area is criss-crossed by forestry tracks. Does the source provide any details of the route ? @RGCorris: Hmmm... I went back to the source and it's actually ambiguous about the road construction. A closer read makes me think its talking about the road from Aberllefenni to Aberangell. The Birmingham Post article of 9 December 1868 quite clearly states 'The Ramblers is a new club, only started this season'. This is a contemporary report, so much more reliable than articles written decades later Kivo (talk) 18:06, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
