Help needed

Hey there, I noticed that you got List of Heroes episodes to FA status. Well I have worked on List of Moonlight episodes and I was going to nominate it, but I was wondering if you could just look over it and tell me if there's anything that needs improvement. Lost Pilot episode

Hi. I'm thinking of working on the article for the Lost pilot episode, and was wondering what sites do you use regularly to find references and reviews of the episodes? Good job on the GAs and FAs of Season 4, too! Regards, Matthewedwards (talk · contribs · count · email) 00:42, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

The pilot, eh? You will have to do some digging for sources. The reason I have been writing about the newer episodes (and occasionally characters) is because I do not have to search through archives for sources. Most of the fourth season production information is taken from DarkUFO's http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com. http://www.lost-media.com is a similar and (older, i.e. more information on the pilot than DarkUFO) website and I strongly suggest going there. The pilot is one of the few episodes that has production heavily chonicled on the DVD's. I would also recommend going through the fall 2004 archives at the websites for USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide for more interviews. Because Lost was the "it" show when it came out and you are looking for reviews of a television pilot, the reception section should be fairly easy. Because there will be so many reviews, only mention those from the top of the list of most popular newspapers. You can also use Google News. I noticed you've included info regarding the UK reception. Have you tried for Aus and Nz? I know where to look for the UK cos I'm from there, so that shouldn't be too difficult. I'm not that sure about Australasian sources though. Finally, do you think it's worth splitting the pilot into two articles, since the episodes were broadcast on two different weeks? WP:HAU

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. AIV revert

Hello. I noticed you recently reverted your report of 190.51.136.69. I am watching WP:AIV and I was wondering why you reverted it since the IP did vandalize after her/his last warning. After I saw that, I added the report back my own. I don't know why you reverted it, but I was thinking you looked at the above report I did and they had almost the exact IP address number and they were vandalizing the same pages. I was thinking you reverted your report because you thought the above report was the same IP you were reporting. The above IP report was 190.51.178.67; you can see how they are a like. I thought that it was possible that he (or she, let's just say he) had not vandalized after his final warning, as his last vandalism and warning both occured at 19:07 (UTC). WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Did you know that Through the Looking Glass (Lost) is the longest episode FA, at 49.1KB? Well, I'm trying to break your record with The Stolen Earth (not yet an FA). It's currently at 44.5KB, but given that three production accounts (uno, dos, tres) are coming out soon, I think I might get to 60KB. The Other Woman

Hi Thedemonhog; I removed the new FAC as I archived it only a few hours ago. The FAC should be able to sail through successfully if you bring it back when everything is cleared up. I see another editor started a thread at the Reliable Sources noticeboard, and there's the pending image issue. If you can nail down those two issues, the chances of the article passing next time will be much greater, and you'll likely get more attention from reviewers. It's understandable, with the high traffic at FAC, that reviewers may be reluctant to engage until other issues are sorted. Please take a few days to sort out those two kinks, and then bring it back when it's ready. Good luck next time; that was a great episode, and I'll be pulling for it. Lost

Um, I just looked over those episode pages. If I were you, I would nominate them for FA status. As far individual episode articles goes, they are pretty comprehensive. Not all episode articles have scholarly analysis on them. Though, given the depth of those reception sections, I would remove those horrid (horrid meaning the actual site, not the Wikipedia writing) TVSquad sources. Those people are some of the most unprofessional reviewers out there, and when you have stuff like Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, you don't need to fluff up the section with stuff from TVSquad.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Just look at The Shape of Things to Come (Lost), it's the same structure as Eggtown and the other you listed. There might be a bit more information, but "comprehensive" means that you've covered all major points the best of their ability. It doesn't mean that every episode article must contain X, Y, Z topics. Not all episodes win awards. Not all episodes have "themes" that are analyzed by critics. If there isn't anything else to say about those particular episodes, the rather large production info and reception section is a pretty comprehensive look at those episodes. Unfortunately, Smallville episodes don't get that type of coverage, and that's why they don't have articles.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Not a big deal, but I didn't understand

I didn't understand on the TFAR page your summary "September 30: Not supporting per removal of another article" I guess not supporting is better than opposing, but the "per removal" suggests to me that you think I did something wrong. Any help straightening me out would be appreciated.

BTW, as a kid I got to hang out in Vancouver while visiting my Grandmother. Are Stanley Park, English Bay and Jericho Beach still as nice? Well they have articles, so I'll check those out.

Ah, for some reason, I did not want to just add a "formatted TFA blurb box" edit summary, so I added one on why I was not supporting when I normally support just about everything that goes through TFAR (not including the last few months when I have been too busy/away to support anything on that page!) What I meant was that I will not be adding a support—or an oppose—vote to requests that replaced another. I liked it better when we had to voraciously watchlist the page to see when a slot opened up to add a request instead of the slight hard feelings/betrayal that one might feel nowadays if he or she gets all the way to TFAR only to have his or her request removed for reasons that are out of the editor's control (a somewhat similar article by someone else appearing on the main page recently, the subject matter being under ten years old or not relevant to a seventh-grade school project, etc.) And Stanley Park, English Bay and Jericho Beach are still nice, although the Park was closed for part of last year after a vicious windstorm. Interesting. I always found the old system horribly unfair. I'm on Wikipedia rarely for more than an hour here or there, and what little time I have I devote mostly to articles. Under the old system I never once spotted an opening on the page. I'd written 6 Featured Articles over the course of a year before I had one featured. I just gave up as the old system didn't really favor quality, or diversity, or anything but who had the most time to hit the Watchlist. Talk about feeling slighted by something beyond my control! Quit my job to watchlist TFAR? The new system is much improved in my opinion (though I could think of several tweaks, as the current system seems to punish articles without clear anniversaries). Thank you for the kind words. Thankfully, one of the writers from IGN sat in the audience at the Damon and Carlton panel, so we will be able to cite some of the things that they said on Wikipedia. Aw, but I wish I had talked him into staying for the Eddy and Adam panel because by the time that they did their panel, I had no more video space in my camera because I had filmed parts of Damon and Carlton, which will be posted on YouTube soon. For IGN's report, go to http://tv.ign.com/articles/930/930680p1.html. I read over that and made a list of all the things that he missed, in addition to what happened in the second panel, and sent that over to DarkUFO: you can see it at http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2008/11/damon-lindelof-and-carlton-cuse-speak.html. Damon and Carlton were great—it was like listening to a ninety-minute podcast in which there was swearing and far better questions than they usually get and I could see them, sitting front row, centre.  ;) Strangely, I think that I might have liked the Eddy and Adam panel better. Both panels had lots of new behind the scenes information, but Damon and Carlton felt more like celebrities, whereas Eddy and Adam felt more relatable. As for spoilers for the upcoming season, there were not many. One of the biggest ones were when Carlton was talking about how the show is going to get "more science fictiony", to which Damon said that "Lost has really been about the long con, because by the time we get to season 6, it's going to be fucking crazy!" When asked about the background survivors, Carlton said that there is "a very tragic event that happens this season" (I am pretty sure that some parts of this can be viewed in the Fray's music video trailer). The only other spoilers were that we will see but not meet the DeGroots and that Patrick Fischler, who they knew from Nash Bridges would recur this season. As for Heroes (isn't that show just awful these days?), well, it was supposed to be a "Heroes panel with Tim Kring, Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb", but the moderator said that the latter two had to cancel for reasons beyond Creative Screenwriting's control and that we should not ask questions about it later in the Q&A. So they disassembled the panel table and brought out the big comfortable chairs and it suddenly became "an interview with Tim Kring". Poor Tim Kring—it seems that nothing goes his way. He talked about how he did not sign up to be a show runner and manage people; he is a writer. He said "a million" a lot, e.g. "There are a million things why it is hard", "there are a million reasons why that did not work". He seemed worn out and his eyes were bloodshot. He said that he envisioned Heroes as having major cast changes every season à la 24 (if you don't know, basically everyone but Jack Bauer dies or occasionally, someone is simply written out), but fans got attached to the characters and it is hard to sign contracts that accompany that so now, he is stuck writing for characters who he thought would have been gone a long time ago. He is only interested in writing "origin" stories and is hoping to make "departure episodes" like "Villains" the norm instead of the exception. Even when Kring was on Crossing Jordan, things did not work out the way that he had hoped. He pitched the show as being about a strong, female lead who was the sheriff of a small town and NBC liked it. But then, one of the network executives went on a trip to Europe and while he was there, he watched a show about medical examiners so NBC forced Kring to change the show into a strong, female lead who was a medical examiner. But the thing that is getting the far most press coverage from the Expo is when Kring referred to people who watch Heroes live on Mondays at 9 on NBC (half the audience, according to him; it is actually more) as "saps and dipshits". Tim Kring is very good at drawing out answers to questions, which was good because he had no fellow writers there with him, but it always seemed like he was going off-topic when he had actually just been talking so long about one thing that you would forget what the original question was. Anyway, after the interview, I waited for a long time behind just a few people in line (see previous sentence) before getting the script of the pilot signed and a picture with him. Election stats data

My source is indeed stats.grok.se and a lot of patience - sorry, I thought I'd stated that! Will fix now...

The main difference is that stats.grok.se counts redirects interestingly - following the link to "Redirect Page" will be recorded as a single pageview for "Redirect Page" rather than one for "Target Page", if you see what I mean. For Barack Obama and John McCain, I generated a list of all the redirect pages I could find, and factored these in, which means the pageviews calculated for those articles are greater than those stats.grok.se gives if you just ask it for the one page.

I use "hits" as synonymous with pageview here; I'll happily change if there's a nuance I'm missing. Hope that helps! Shimgray | talk | 14:19, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've been looking through the article and I think it is very good. However, one suggestion I have is that the production section is a bit long. This makes reading through it a tad monotonous, so it might not hurt to break it into sections. Two divisions I can think of are writing, and maybe "guest characters" (not the best title though) that would include the info on Libby, Karl, Tom and Gault. A third might be shooting? Not sure about that one though. I hope this helps. I also think your reception section is a bit long (and again somewhat tedious to read through), it might not hurt to condense it a little (or even break it into sections... It does have a 1440*11000 PNG in it. Which is pretty much redundant anyway because it's visible now at The Stolen Earth (it was a mocked-up preview). The text was:

This is a current mockup of a draft of an expansion to the The Stolen Earth article which is the same as my wikicode copy, save for one wikilink in the "Writing" section and the words "of the fourth series" in the "Reception" section I added just now (as in, 30 seconds before I started writing this email). Currently, it stands at 90.1KB (92,261 bytes, or so Windows says), with an expansion of 13.2KB made by adding part of some excised script in the writing section, and an inclusion of an Analysis section to accommodate an analysis that is five pages long in the book I've cited it in. With that edit, I've for all intents and purposes, finished the article. There's a magazine poll coming out in about six months, and there may need to be a few grammatical fixes, but I've pretty much included everything I could.

A LOST question.

Hello, I was reading your userpage and some of your contributions and such regarding Lost articles. I've had something on my mind and I like to bring it to your attention. Well, I'm trying to re-watch all the episodes of Lost before the season premiere, and I've been looking over the episodes from at least the first season. I've noticed that episodes in the third and fourth season seem to be better formatted then the first and second season episodes. An example being a subsection for flashbacks/flashforwards, for present time, etc. as opposed to the first couple seasons which have everything as one timeline. Now, I'm not sure if there is a specific reason for this, or if anyone else has pointed this out, but seeing as you have a lot of history with the project and I am fairly new to Lost and the project itself, I'm not sure. --HELLØ ŦHERE 22:09, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay, thank you. And sorry, I know I should look at the GAs and FAs, I must not be looking hard enough as some of the only ones that I've noticed don't cover a lot of the material.
