Linking to authors pages from references

Hi, thank you for reviewing the page I created so quickly. I'm resolving the "orphan" issues and have added links to other wikipedia pages to the subject's page.

I've also found the subject on other wikipedia pages listed as an author on references for several other entries (HSP90, etc.), but when I add the link to his page (Mehdi Mollapour) from his name in the references, it shows up there as "Mehdi, M" - which is the opposite of how it needs to look. Please see reference #26 on the HSP90 page for an example. Is there a way to keep the internal link to his wikipedia page and have it displayed as "Mollapour, M"? message I've received from you

I just saw that you ent me three messages saying that edits I made to articles on the Dardenne brothers, Terrence Malick and Ross McElwee constituted promotional or advertising material and violated Wikipedia rules mandating neutrality. I am upset and genuinely puzzled by this, since my edits consisted solely in adding titles to "Further Reading," "Bibliography" or "Sources" sections without any value judgments whatever. Yes, the titles I added were mostly publications of my own, but there's nothing I found at the Wikipedia web site made me think that isn't allowed. The web site makes clear that submitting an article about oneself is--and should be--discouraged, but I had no idea that I had done something wrong when I submitted, with the enthusiasm of a new member, the flurry of edits I submitted the past two days. Please don't take away my Wikipedia editing privileges--I'm a serious writer and didn't mean to do anything wrong. And please do clarify whether adding it is really prohibited to add books or essays of one's own to existing Wikipedia articles. And Happy New Year! Update to content on Optical Express Wikipedia page

Hello, I am messaging you with regards to updates that you rejected from the Optical Express Wikipedia page on 12th December 2019. Thanks firstly for your messages, that’s understood regarding the edits. There are some inaccuracies in the opening paragraph of the Optical Express article though which I think it important to correct if possible to do so in an acceptable way. The company’s description is misleading as the company is primarily a laser eye surgery and lens surgery specialist which also offers traditional vision correction options such as glasses and contact lenses. While it is headquartered in the UK, the company has clinics in a number of different countries. I also think it would be helpful to include the number of clinics operated by Optical Express – 130. Hi Theroadislong,

You were kind enough to respond to my earlier communication, so I thought I'd come to you with this.

I would love to be adopted. I had a look at the Adopters section, and though they all seemed friendly and approachable, they also all seemed to be men.

I can cope with men, but I would really like to be adopted by a woman, if that's possible. (Men and women have different ways of learning, even if we end up at the same position in the end.) Is this sexist?

Anyway, I'd be grateful if you could tell me how to go about finding a female to adopt me (putting: WANTED, WOMAN on my 'help|me' section really does come across as sexist, and bit pervy).

You noted that you had denied approval because YouTube was referenced for 7 of the 15 sources, however a majority of the YouTube citations were related to channel statistics/milestones that were rather obvious and perhaps not needing sourcing (1, 2, 5, and 6). Would it be better to remove those 4 references?

Otherwise, are the 8 other sources sufficient? There are other snippets that could be added with more colorful commentary, i.e. "Few individuals around the world are as synonymous within the mobile gaming scene as Chief Pat is" from https://www.invenglobal.com/articles/8269/igec-panel-highlight-mobile-esports-the-worlds-largest-niche-community, but I opted to keep things more clear-cut. Thank you for reviewing my draft (even though it was not accepted). I would be grateful if you could give me some further guidance.

There are two family-based references: 1. Family bible = this only impacts his date of birth.

Question - if I remove the family bible reference and use the independently recorded (I.e. newspapers) date of birth, will this be more acceptable?

2. Personal notebook = this provides detail about his time in London and his early time in Sheffield. There are independent records (i.e. newspaper obituary) that state that he was in London and then in Sheffield, though without the “colour” / detail.

Question - can I leave in the detail from his notebook (which I cannot independently verify)? Or will this still make it “read like a family history project”?

3. Suitability of subject for Wiki article - My understanding is that you consider that Robert Russell is not sufficiently notable - is this what you meant?

Russell was a councillor (18 years), Alderman (16 years), Justice of peace (15 years) and mayor of city (1 year). He was a prominent and significant employer in that city. He also featured in a newspaper series about “ modern mayors..” with an abbreviated life story and is a named mayor on a Wikipedia mayors of Derby” page.

Question - given this, is Russell not notable enough or is it that I have not sufficiently conveyed his notability? [i suppose I am struggling to understand the notability of a modern celebrity who is famous for being famous versus a prominent leader of a significant city (albeit over 100 years ago]

I don't think Robert Russell is sufficiently notable to have an article about him, there is nothing inherently notable about being a councillor, alderman or mayor. It all comes down to what reliable sources have reported about him, which it seems is very little, if you can find more sources and remove all the family history content you would stand a better chance. US Government Documents, Public Domain Information, and Wikipedia Rules

Hello, seeking guidance:

You recently denied a draft article on "Secretary of Defense-Empowered Cross-Functional Teams" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:TJQx83928/sandbox). The reason given was the submission "included copyrighted content, which is not permitted on Wikipedia." However, this assessment is incorrect: the citations and quotations given are from public domain documents. The documents are produced by the US Federal Government and, per US copyright law (section 105 of the Copyright Act) "are not entitled to domestic copyright protection under U.S. law and are therefore in the public domain." This includes a quote from an official government report, from a memorandum, and legislation.

As this is the second time I've submitted, I was wondering: am I misunderstanding the wikipedia rules regarding public domain items? What is necessary to get past this hurdle? Thank you.

Recently you rejected my information page about Robin Sickles. This is my first article and I cited many sources along with Robin Sickles' CV. You said that the rejection reason is needs independent resources. What do you mean by it? His CV is not an independent source but it cites his articles which can be verified and thus his field can be verified by reading the cited articles. What was the exact reason for rejection? Martinez1991805 You've never edited that draft, so I don't know what your interest is in that draft- but it is simply a resume, and not an encyclopedia article. The fact that you describe this actor as "up and coming" would strongly suggest it is too soon for an article about him; Wikipedia has articles about subjects that are already known, not becoming known, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Apparently the message was expanded from a template, which was inserted without a parameter to the {{lang2iso}} template – the corresponding part of the entry looks like:
Please provide a high-quality English Language translation of your submission. Otherwise, you may write it in the [[:{{lang2iso|}}:| Wikipedia]].
Possibly you could have added a name of Swedish language somewhere and get a message like
you may write it in the [[:sv:| Wikipedia]].
which would have then render as
you may write it in the Wikipedia.

Oh, now I (seem to) understand! See that space before the word 'Wikipedia'? There must be some placeholder there in the original template to insert the language name. I have no idea what it may look like, but suppose it was $LangName, then the original message template might be:

which should resolve at insertion to:

Easwans, Oddly, you're trying to put something highly discredited on the same level as something with widespread acceptance, support and evidence. So tell me, what is neutral? Is it presenting topics that have wildly different levels of support as the same? That's highly suspect, don't you think? Yes, it's tough when something you support is on the wrong side. I get that. Easwans well, let's get precise about language here. ID is being presented as a scientific concept, so is it a Scientific theory, meaning well-supported. Nope, it's not. It's an idea, a belief, a guess, but it's not a scientific theory. The article on the term has some good discussion on the use of the term, and the non-scientific use of theory. Ravensfire, I understand your point, which is specifically why I didn't try to say "scientific theory of..". I thought including theory in the generic sense would work. I'm sorry that I get worked up about this, as I'm in general not an argumentative person and you all are probably nice people. I just get frustrated that highly intelligent scientists can be dismissed so easily simply because they dare to suggest that the existence of our world hints at a designer. I understand that you all disagree with me, but I believe that ID has only been "highly disproven" by scientists who have an emotional response to the possibility that they could be wrong, and they blacklist any scientist who dares to disagree with them. Again, clearly you all disagree, the Wikipedia community disagrees, etc. This is not a fight I will win, so I will stop trying to advocate for language that I personally would find more neutral. I apologize to all involved in this discussion as I tend to get heated about this subject, but I should not have made it personal. You don't have to worry about further attempts at edits from me. Easwans, That's the challenge though - Behe is presenting it as a scientific theory and that's how it's judged by secondary sources. Ultimately, Wikipedia uses the terms that secondary sources do, we don't pull things out of thin air - that's what we call original research. Behe (and ID) big problem is that science has predominately rejected the idea as based on religion, not on observable and testable phenomenon. Yes, there are some scientists that support it, but it's a very small minority. Wikipedia's NPOV requires that we describe things as those secondary sources do, in relative weight for how they are described.
Quite honestly, it doesn't matter what any of the editors here believe or not, it's a question of how is a topic viewed by secondary sources. There are quite a few topics around here that arouse passion in rather incredible amounts, this is actually one of the tamer areas. I enjoy discussions like this and understand your frustration. There isn't a perfect system for presenting complicated and controversial topics though - no matter what, some people are happy, some people are angry and some people just wonder why most ceilings are painted white. Hey Theroadislong, You recently declined a draft I submitted for review and I was wondering if you could further elaborate on why it was declined? None but one article was a "passing mention" and it was solely used to verify the artist at an art fair. Also, one of the requirements for an artist to be considered "notable" is that "(b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition" per line 4.B on WP:ARTIST. This particular artist has displayed work at both Art Basel in Miami, the largest art fair in the United States and The Other Art Fair, one of the largest in Texas, created by the company Saatchi Art one of the largest and most notable online art galleries. Wikipedia has no interest in what the articles subject wants to say about himself, only what reliable sources have reported, articles are limited to a summary of what such independent sources have said about them. John Cranch

Hello,

You rejected my recently edits (i.e. replacement of the whole article) on "John Cranch English Painter" with the comment "You will need consensus on the talk page before replacing the whole article with your own!" Several days before I did the edit, I posted a draft of the article in the Cranch Talk page, asking for comments and/or objections about using it to replace the existing article. As I received none, I went ahead and did the replacement.

I do want to follow the Wiki guidelines and don't want to step on other people's toes so I'm sorry if I have done the wrong thing here. I would be grateful if you give me some help as I can't find anything in the Wikipedia Help that's relevant.

Generally people who have no connection to the person being added, can add content as long as it is cited to a reliable source. Film pages also have a link to imdb which is considered as a 'reliable source' of information. Production Design is seen on a par with Director of Photography and Editing. They are all 'front screen credits' so are of equal merit so should be listed on Wikipedia. Sticks,stones,bones The reason I reverted your edits is because the film info box does NOT have a parameter for production designer, I can't help that, it is just a matter of fact. (When you added your name it did not appear in the article's info box). Wikipedia doesn't have to list everyone involved in a film only those that have been covered in-depth by reliable sources. A production designer might be mentioned in the article itself if they have received coverage in independent sources, but not as a matter of course Wikipedia is not like IMdb, it's not a listing and incidentally IMDb has never been considered a reliable source because it is user generated. I want to clarify that I am not Janine DeBaise. My name is Lauren LaFauci and I am a scholar of environmental humanities. I am not writing an autobiography because I know I do not merit a Wikipedia page.

However, I believe that poet Janine DeBaise does. Given the longstanding and well-documented bias in Wikipedia against women, and especially discounting the works of women in humanities and arts fields, I find this rejection curious. I will attempt to find the references you suggest, but I would appreciate you deleting the note about autobiography from my page--perhaps you have done so already? As a new person to Wikipedia, I find its interfaces extremely confusing! I would never presume to write an autobiography; doing so would be unethical and I am offended by the implication, publicly, on my page. It makes it appear like I am self-promoting or lying. Taylor Gordon Wiki Help

I have submitted my article about musician and drummer Taylor Gordon twice now and it has been rejected both times. The first time I didn't have enough sourcing. Makes sense; I went back and added more sources. The second time it was rejected, the reason you left was that Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are not reliable sources. While I understand that to be true, my subject gained her success and fame through the spread of her viral drumming videos. So I thought a link to the social sites would be helpful. Also, the social media sources were 5-of-12 sources I used. What was wrong with the other sources?

It is only interested in what people who have no connection with them have chosen to publish about them. Possible cross-wiki abuse.

Hello, Theroadislong. I am an administrator at Lusophone Wikipedia (pt.wiki). Well, in the last few days I requested a verification of the Tiago Ghidotti (talk · contribs) account. The result was positive, with eight puppets confirmed. Each puppet has the same goal: to recreate the same spammy biography, and try to keep it.

Some edited Commons by adding photos related to the subject and others edited the Anglophone Wikipedia, creating Draft:Egobrazil. On this page, the focus object is a web portal related to the biographer (eliminated in the Lusophone). Egobrz (talk · contribs) and Egobrz1 (talk · contribs) have been confirmed puppets.

Anyway, I do not have much knowledge of the rules of the anglophone wiki. In addition, the refusal in the Lusophone was considerably more insistent for what I found here (en.wiki).
