Questions about revisions made to Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_A._Rando

Hello! Thank you for your recent edits made to the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_A._Rando ! I have a few questions in regards to some of the edits that were made on the page. I notice some things in the research section were removed (specifically in the cellular aging & rejuvenation and muscular dystrophy sections. Can you help me to understand why there was so much removed from those areas and not the first? If you could also help me to understand what I need to do in order for that information to be added back without being deleted? There were also some awards that were removed from the awards section, I went through the ones that were removed but couldn't see why some were removed and others were note (at first I thought it was the citation issue, but I saw that in fact there was one that was cited and removed). If you could clarify if they just need citations, that would be so helpful, thank you! Lastly, I wanted to ask about the areas that say "citation needed". I am unsure how to cite certain areas that have this noted, for example the sentence that reads, "Rando was born in Brooklyn, New York, and spent most of his childhood in the Lewiston/Auburn area and the rural area of Casco, Maine.". How can this be cited? Thank you so much in advance for reviewing this. Jessica Washington (talk) 05:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Jessica Washington I am not prepared to help you, you appear to be an undeclared paid editor. Theroadislong (talk) 07:06, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

New page

hi, Many thanks for your message. I've now added references and publications from external websites. I hope this is OK! many thanks for your help! kind regards D. MezziFrance (talk) 12:54, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

The sources of your draft Draft:Michel Loreau all appear to be written by him, NOT about him which is what we require. Wikipedia has essentially no interest in anything said or published by him. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with him have chosen to publish about him: the article should be limited to a summary of what such independent sources have said about him. Theroadislong (talk) 13:04, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

hi again, great, i've added a few more references which are from external sources. hopefully this will be good! thank you so much! MezziFrance (talk) 13:10, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

I'm still not seeing any independent sources that discuss him in depth, which is what we need. Theroadislong (talk) 13:15, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Mike Peden Wiki Page

Hi Theroadislong, thanks for giving me the information required. I hope this is sufficient. I'm trying to update this Wiki page about myself but I don't know how to do this. I've tried a few times but I seem to keep getting it wrong. I have attached reliable independent sources for your information. I hope I have attached them correctly? Thanks for all your help. Kind regards Mike.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Edinburgh360 (talkcontribs) Edinburgh360 (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

BOIGRAPHY Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Peden began his career in 1986 as a bass player and member of The Chimes. This all belongs on the article talk page not here, the links you have posted all mention you, but articles require sources which contain in depth coverage of you. You can ask for changes on the articles talk page, in the form of change x to y with a source to support it, or suggest content with a specific source but you can't just re-write it. Content like you suggest "Mike went on to become one of Europe’s foremost and in demand music producers" is entirely inappropriate for an encyclopeida article which need to be neutral in tone. Recent declined article

Hello,

I am the editor for the page on Robert Chodo Campbell and Koshin Paley Ellison that was recently declined submission.

I was hoping that you would expand on the feedback you gave. The site states "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject."

Can you please specify which aspect of these requirements were not met in the submission?

Thank you for your time! [1]

References

I guess I just wasn't sure what exactly made them notable. Feel free to re-submit and let another reviewer take a look. Interviews are not reliable sources and two of your sources seem to come from the same press release. Theroadislong (talk) 16:06, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Review of Yasmeen Williams Page

Hello! Thank you so much for your advice on the page I've been working on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Yasmeen_(Betty_J.)_Williams

I'd like to resubmit it for consideration, but was hoping you might be able to review it first. I tried to implement the advice you and the other reviewer gave to "hack it back" and I also changed the way I was citing references. Instead of just linking to a Washington Post article, for example, I added the complete citation information for the article.

What do you think?

Thank you! and P.S. I hope I am using this Talk page correctly!?

7X Energy page

Hi,

Thank you for your quick response. I was trying to create a company page. I was under the impression through articles online that I could create a company page. So it seems I need to put in my profile that I work for 7X, is that correct?

Thank you, Rfolk7X (talk) 16:24, 5 August 2020 (UTC)rfolk7X

Yes you will need to declare your conflict of interest, please also be aware that Wikipedia doesn't have "company pages" Wikipedia has essentially no interest in anything the company has to say about themselves. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with them have chosen to publish about them. The article should be limited to a summary of what such independent sources have said about them. Theroadislong (talk) 16:32, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, hope you're doing well. I want to know about legacy(dot)com website. Is it a reliable source? Thank you TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 18:19, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Barry N. Haack

Let me hasten to add that an article on Haack would offer far more than a tribute to his career. The field he has helped build over the course of his career is one that will continue to grow and affect our daily lives. Those studying or seeking to do research in the field of remote sensing (satellite imagery) and photogrammetry (aerial photography) will benefit from the article and use it to pivot to publications, individual specialists, and trends in the scientific use of imagery and its applications in fields such as intelligence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twilson088 (talkcontribs) 15:08, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Barry N. Haack

I'm working on a resubmission of Barry Haack's proposed article and have a question for you. By insufficient "references" do you mean "publications"? Or do you mean references to his work? If the latter, I checked Google Scholar and found over 2,000, which I can mention in a preamble to the publications section, while also expanding that section.

I've known Haack for some time and have a lot of respect for his work. I thought it would be a fitting and well-deserved tribute to his substantial career at the time of his retirement to author a Wikipedia page for him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twilson088 (talkcontribs) 14:59, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Your draft has zero independent sources. Secondary sources that are independent of the subject are required to establish notabilty. You also need to declare your conflict of interest as you know him. Theroadislong (talk) 15:14, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Barry N. Haack

I believe you were kind enough to add a footnote to the introductory paragraph, so I added two more. So we now have three references to external sites that verify Prof. Haack's credentials. Those credentials seem to meet three or more of the criteria for academic qualification for Wikipedia, when only one is required. At this stage, I'm baffled as to what more can be done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twilson088 (talkcontribs) 19:58, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

As I commented previously, for a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them. If it were accepted it would likely be deleted for lack of sources. Where did you get all the content? Surely you can just add the sources? Theroadislong (talk) 20:38, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello Theroadislong, You reviewed my draft (Gondara Clan) a few days ago and declined it's publication into an article - for good reason, I failed to add my reliable sources. I have updated my article and added more information to it along with sources from reputable authors and publics along with census records. I hope you will be happy with my changes and view all records of this Clan title. Thank you for your time.

P.S. The following clans were granted articles but have little to no information and zero sources: Flora clan, Hans clan, Pediwal Clan. Could you explain why they received publication? That is the reason I did not provided references in my first go around. My apologies. Jatt Clans (talk) 01:19, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on User:Cory H Jones. I do not think that User:Cory H Jones fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because This is IMO within the "limited biographical information" permitted by Wikipedia:User pages and so is not "unrelated to Wikipedia's purposes". It does not look like an article draft. I will however, be advising the user on proper uses for a user page. I respect your experience, and if you still think this should be deleted, ping me and we can discuss the matter.. If you wish, you may try using the simple proposed deletion (PROD) process, or the full articles for deletion (AfD) process, instead, if this was an article, or another proces such as MfD or XfD as appropriate. Our goal is to help educate patients dealing with sleep apnea. I tried to do the edits correctly and read through the tutorials and I obviously didn't do something correctly. Your draft uses Wikipedia articles as sources for example the first one is Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, you can Wikilink the articlelike I have done here but you can't use it as a source, Wikipedia is user edited so is not reliable to use as a reference. Public Art Workshop

You recently declined an article I submitted on the Public Art Workshop - a London mural painting collective active in the 70s and 80s in London. Your reason for declining was given as notability, I believe. Please note that they were very significant during that period of British mural painting and were the first to use the Keim silicate process which was later used by other important mural artists in the 70s and 80s. I am new to editing and creating wiki articles but find these deletions very disheartening. This is a subject that interests me and I would like to continue to submit articles on the subject of British mural artists. Phenored (talk) 22:23, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Replying to Paid Editor question for #Draft:Francis Baraan IV

Hi, @Theroadislong!

No, I am not a paid editor. I am a volunteer contributor for pro-democracy Filipino public figures, who have and don't have articles here on Wikipedia

Thank you for the clarification on the reference 1 and reference 8. Should I remove reference 8? Can I now edit Reference 1? I already also fixed the bold texts issue. Are there any other issues I need to address? And who do I talk to for adminship of my article about Mr. Baraan?

I have already addressed notability of Mr.Baraan IV on my talk page. So, I hope that clarifies it. My draft is meant to be a stub. So, it will need improvement. But his notability has been established through the multiple news headlines about him, and the external links I included proving his notability.

When can I remove the template about the issues about my draft regarding Mr. Baraan, then? Thank you. MediaManager1 (talk) 14:04, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

You do then, have a clear conflict of interest which you need to declare on your user page, you also seem to be operating two accounts which is problematic. Theroadislong (talk) 14:18, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Regarding Unsourced Early Life and Education of #Draft:Francis Baraan IV

There are wiki sources I can use for Early Life section and Education. Will remove Sirom Beach House Part from Early Life. And copy on using a more neutral and dry tone. But please tell me specifically where I should improve and edit re:tone. Thank you. MediaManager1 (talk) 14:21, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Rod Melancon Review

Hello,

Thanks for reviewing Rod Melancon article draft. In response to your critique of not clear how it qualifies, I'd argue that he's been covered independently by Rolling Stone, No Depression, Chris Shiflett's Walk the Floor and NPR among others. In your view, why does that not qualify? What edits might be done to suffice?

Thank you Kwbeth (talk) 17:20, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

You could be right! I think the ref bombing of poorer quality sources has maybe hidden the good ones, please remove the commercial Amazon link at least and re-submit. Theroadislong (talk) 18:15, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. I'll definitely remove Amazon link. Would you mind clarifying "I think the ref bombing of poorer quality sources has maybe hidden the good ones", specifically defining "ref bombing". I know that's probably really dumb and ignorant on my part and I apologize, I'm just not as versed in lingo and want to be clear in my understanding to reduce # of edits and increase efficiency on my part. I definitely want to do this right. Thank you for your patience, look forward to your response. Kwbeth (talk) 00:30, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi. I declined your G11 at Draft:Freethought House. This might not be notable. However, that doesn't mean we can delete it as promotional, as I see no promotional language. Hello Theroadislong,

In the first of June you declined my submission for an article on Thomas Fattorini Ltd and made some every helpful suggestions in how I could improve it. I think I have done all that you have asked, though probably not to the standard that you may expect from someone a novice.

I was just wondering what the next steps are, and how I can get the article approved? I appreciate that there appears to be a very large queue that seems to be getting longer and longer ever time I look! Any handy hints and advice welcome.

With best wishes

Hi Theroadislong,

My name is Peter Weingarden, I created a Jose Unda page from a Jose unda email address as I wasn't sure how to do it from my own page. Find a grave not reliable?

Thank you for your comments on my Ethel Booty draft. There was a photograph of her headstone on findagrave (also including husband and daughter), with a very legible inscription, and accurate birth/death dates, burial location, etc. So in this case I believe it is reliable, though I accept that it could sometimes be inaccurate, depending on who is contributing. I'm trying to find more information - she was clearly an excellent photographer, for her work to be accepted by Historic England/English Heritage, a high status UK historical organisation. Really appreciate your input, thanks again! CourtauldGill (talk) 19:47, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

It's not usually considered reliable because it is user edited, regardless it doesn't help with any possible notability.Theroadislong (talk) 19:58, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Draft: VVe Being Donna: The Light, the Dark

Dear Theroadislong, I appreciate your feedback so much for my submission, Draft:VVe_Being_Donna:_The_Light,_the_Dark :) I have a concern though, about it being declined/rejected. Having an IMDb page is irrelevant, IMDb is user edited so cannot be used to establish any notability. Theroadislong (talk) 19:42, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi,

Can i ask what i did wrong in draft?

All best,

MKGAPA — Preceding unsigned comment added by MKGAPA (talkcontribs) 10:32, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Your draft Draft:Michał Krawczyk has three sources, the first is a primary source which does not help establish any notability, the second doesn't load for me, the third doesn't mention him at all. Notability is judged by looking at the depth of coverage in independent, reliable, secondary sources, there are none as yet. Theroadislong (talk) 10:51, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

help

you just rejected the article i submitted on the grounds it was contrary to the purpose of wikipedia. can you help me understand the specific issue as this article is all about saving people and planet. there must be some technical thing i do not understand as a very very infrequent contributor. my previous engagement has been to edit small things relating to my own work, also dedicated for over 40 years to saving people and planet. many thanks david — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidbonbright (talkcontribs) 12:25, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Your draft Draft:Single Organizing Idea (SOI®) seems to be an advert for the topic with zero independent sources. Notability of a topic is judged by looking at the depth of coverage in independent, reliable, secondary sources, editors are commonly advised to cite at least three independent, reliable, secondary sources containing significant coverage. Theroadislong (talk) 12:29, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

You might want to check the spelling of your draft Draft:Internet Faurds in India. Theroadislong (talk) 12:31, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

thank you

I'm sorry for being unfamiliar with the style. I had assumed that since the idea was based on a best-selling business book that has tons of published rave reviews and was nominated for major awards was far far more independent sourcing than would be required. I also thought that the list of reputable organizations that had used SOI would be sufficient. Please guide me as to the specific types of "independent, reliable, secondary sources containing significant coverage" you had in mind? If you did any research on the Internet you would have found plenty of that. Do you mean one should refer to and link to those things in the article? Again, I apologize for my lack of understanding of the form here. I looked at a bunch of other similar articles and thought I had modeled to them accurately. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidbonbright (talkcontribs) 14:24, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Yes Davidbonbright you need to actually add the sources to the draft. Articles require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic (see WP:42). Theroadislong (talk) 14:30, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. Do you mean article subjects require significant coverage in reliable sources...? Do you agree that a successful book is in fact an independent and reliable source, albeit of a different type than scholarly articles about the subject? Would testimony of users of the method be an example of what you are looking for? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidbonbright (talkcontribs) 14:36, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
Yes the article's subject needs to have been the subject of in-depth coverage in independent, published reliable sources. I don't know what book you are referring to? Testimonies would only be of limited use if they were published in a reliable source. Theroadislong (talk) 14:44, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

COI

You raise a good point re COI. In reality, don't have a conflict of interest. I am independent. I am a subject expert and I like SOI a lot. I think it is a brilliant tool. The founder is using my measurement method, which is cool. We give our tool away on a creative commons license. Thousands of orgs use it. That in itself does not create a conflict or lack of independence. I can see how there is the appearance of a possible conflict. I would love to have someone entirely new and unrelated be the one to publish article. How does that happen? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidbonbright (talkcontribs) 14:51, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

It doesn't happen, unless there are multiple sources where people unconnected with the topic have published about it in reliable places such as major newspapers and magazines etc. Theroadislong (talk) 15:43, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
OK. so what I need to do is add some independent reliable sources to affirm the core proposition. I assume that the fact that a respected publisher of academic books (Routledge) published the first major book on the subject (see the second sentence of the article for the link to the published book) is one such source. Please confirm. I will chase down some more, but just want to be clear this is what I need to do. Many thanks. Davidbonbright

Wikiinfopedia2019 (talk) 17:00, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately The Sun, Daily Mail and Goodreads are not considered reliable sources by Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources Theroadislong (talk) 17:04, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Well, you also said that The Times isn’t a reliable source. The ‘The Times’.

“ When taking information from opinion content, the identity of the author may help determine reliability. The opinions of specialists and recognized experts are more likely to be reliable and to reflect a significant viewpoint.[notes 2] If the statement is not authoritative, attribute the opinion to the author in the text of the article and do not represent it as fact. Reviews for books, movies, art, etc. can be opinion, summary or scholarly pieces.[7][8]” Wikiinfopedia2019 (talk) 16:23, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Wikiinfopedia2019 I don't recall saying The Times wasn't a reliable source? The source you have used from The Times [1] is an interview and interviews are not considered independent sources. Theroadislong (talk) 16:28, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Video Performance Limited

Not seeing any in-depth coverage in independent sources. Theroadislong (talk) 19:42, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Really? Phonographic Performance Limited (Separate Legal Entity), Companies House, House of Lords, Bloomberg News, SCRIPTed - these are all independent. And if you read the Cites you see they offer significant coverage on Video Performance Limited including a Memorandum to the UK House of Lords in which they state on the record they are the "Worlds Largest Music Video Collection Society" — Preceding unsigned comment added by DJ888kmg (talkcontribs) 20:53, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Being listed at Companies House confers no notability whatsoever. Theroadislong (talk) 21:17, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Agreed, but it is independent and verifies date of incorporation and legal name, so important to clarify, wouldn't you agree?
