Greetings, probably should have asked earlier but is it OK to remove files that are no longer shadowing/shadowed from that page?Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:58, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Goodness yes - do whatever you want with the report. From memory there was a plan to add a more complete and regularly generated equivalent of it being discussed at Wikipedia_talk:Database_reports#Request for a New report. If nothing came of this, I can bring User:Topbanana/Eclipsed Files up to date. Good job tackling the issue, keep it up. - TB (talk) 12:54, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
OK; I'll do so. Having a bot or something to tag thes shadowed files as {{ShadowsCommons}} may be worth discussing, but probably not for here.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:49, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
User:Jo-Jo Eumerus: I already have a database report of these files and am planning to go through the whole set. Many of the files have been moved to Commons but in thumbnail forms, and I'm afraid that some people might start moving around those files instead of overwriting and cleaning up the Commons data if the files become too visible. Can't you help resolving the already tagged files first? There are currently about 1200 untagged files which shadow Commons and which are neither up for deletion here nor on Commons. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:26, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
I am working on the other shadowings, but I don't think that adding a few more things to the queue now is necessarily a bad thing.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:35, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan

The article Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unsourced

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wikimedia tool

Hi, The tool located at http://tools.wmflabs.org/tb-dev/MEA/ is one of the tools which I was searching for since long back. It would be very useful for me. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Topbanana. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:50, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Topbanana.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

RLRL

Hi! When doing queries @quarry.wmflabs, I can't access lvwiki tables. I can access ptwiki and enwiki. And can you do a rescan for lvwiki? --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 13:10, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

p50380g50491's public databases are in the process of being moved to the s51111 user - so p50380g50491__unlikely_ptwiki_p will become s51111__unlikely_ptwiki_p. The mvoe should be completed in the next day or two. - TB (talk) 15:50, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

RLRL not working

Hi, since the new year RLRL hasn't been displaying correctly. Is this my setup or a problem with the database? Cheers. welsh (talk) 21:17, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I get the headers but no suggestions, on two differently configured machines, so it's not your setup. Topbanana hasn't edited for several weeks - I do hope all is well. I'll try e-mailing the Labs. Certes (talk) 16:00, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
All fixed now - you caught me on a hemi-demi-semi wikibreak, apologies. The underlying problem was some boneheaded code implemented by me many years ago that has been working all this time only because the nice folks at tool labs have set up such up their environment in a very accomodating and fault-tolerant manner. RLRL (along with all the other tools sharing the same code-base) should be tickety-boo now. Cheers. Things are mostly working, but now that I've checked things out an unrelated error is causing problems (database permission errors) in some tools. Fix pending - TB (talk) 17:24, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks very much. Good to see you back! Certes (talk) 17:56, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Now generally working but a small bug report in case it helps: Multifix [1] gives SELECT command denied to user 's51111'@'10.68.16.239' for table 'namespace'. Certes (talk) 19:39, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Ta. I await DBA assistance to fix this (T155902). - TB (talk) 20:53, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
"Search suggestions" is now working, including Multifix. Thanks to Topbanana, and to the DBA if they're watching!
I've looked at the first page of each list and fixed the links where I agree with the suggestion. Is there any way to get past the first 50 cases I've rejected and see a second page, or do I just need to be patient until they've been viewed enough times to lower their score?
On a slightly different topic, all the Unlikely Links lists are empty, even including whitelisted entries. Have we fixed them all? Certes (talk) 17:41, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
Other than the controls you see at the top of the screen, you can't adjust the suggestions the tool gives you, no. It picks out a selection of those meeting your criteria that it has the highest confidence about; suggestions that have been shown to someone but not fixed have their scores lowered and are less likely to be seen again - unless of course the pool of suggestions being worked through grows too small in which case let me know and I'll 'restock' the tool.
I'll have a look at the Unlikely Links tool this evening for you. - TB (talk) 08:57, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
That's unlikely links (English-language) fixed - other languages to follow. - TB (talk) 17:05, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
Confirmed working for me too. I'm also getting new suggestions - either something mended itself or the false positives have now been viewed enough times. Thanks again, Certes (talk) 01:49, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

RLRL not working

It seems RLRL is not working with the following error message. It's been like this for some time - I was waiting to see if it healed itself.

No webservice. The URI you have requested, /tb-dev/RLRL/stats.php, is not currently serviced.

welsh (talk) 07:07, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Still not serviced, along with the whole of /tb-dev. Can we ask someone on Tool Labs to press the start button, or does that task require Banana-shaped intervention? Certes (talk) 11:41, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Fixed. Apologies for the extended absence - pesky RL commitments. - TB (talk) 15:01, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

Thank you! welsh (talk) 19:38, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

One curiosity: AUTOFIX is opening the page but no longer shows the find/replace fields to do the fix for me. I've followed the instructions again (although it was working a few months ago anyway). Does AUTOFIX work for other users now, in which case it's my configuration problem, or has it broken? Certes (talk) 21:04, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Similar for me. It seemed to be working in some circumstances, but largely not. welsh (talk) 21:59, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

The article Marion Marshall (author) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of Saulteau First Nations

Hello Topbanana,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Saulteau First Nations for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

The article Marion Marshall (author) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Writer of a handful of romance novels, some self-published, no evidence of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time, and that you have not been inactive from administrative tasks for a five year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. Further, following a community discussion in March of 2018, Administrators suspended for inactivity who have not had any logged administrative activity for five years will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. Your Toolforge tool 'tb-dev' needs attention

https://tools.wmflabs.org/trusty-tools/u/tb lists tools you maintain which need to be manually migrated from the legacy Ubuntu Trusty job grid to the new Debian Stretch job grid. Emails notifying you of this have been bouncing, so updating the email address associated with your Developer account would also be appreciated. --BDavis (WMF) (talk) 21:36, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns redirect

I believe this redirect Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (SAAWK) is incorrect. The page it points to, Academy of Science of South Africa (ASAf) is a new organisation started in 1996, while SAAWK started in about 1906 and has not been replaced by ASAf. There just isn't an English version of the page that exists on Afrikaans Wikipedia Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns. Please could you undo this redirect, thanks. Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions.
