Keep participating in the Manga/Anime project[edit]

Hi,

I will probably repeat myself but we simply doesn't the qualified manpower to check for Japanese reliable sources to prove notability. Yes i know it's weird and tried to remedy it but suspect that some qualified people simply don't care about anime & manga :( We may wait for someone qualified forever so we are doing with what we have and must go forward. An article deleted is not a forever condemnation, things may change.
I hope to convince you to still give here and there some help to the project anime/manga as we are heavy burdened with excess of fans who think that more articles the better, more images the better and that every scanlated manga deserved an article on Wikipedia.

I saw in the edit history of List of Touhou Project characters that you thought this particular story from the Kojiki should get an article, but I see that no other stories from the book are articles on Wikipedia. Is this story somehow more notable than all the other stories to deserve its own article? Otherwise, I don't really see a reason why the story can't be redirected to Kojiki.-- 09:50, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a pretty famous story in Japan. I believe that myths from the Kojiki are not made articles not because they are not important, but rather that people have not gotten around to make them. (East Asian mythology and folklore coverage can get quite spotty here on English Wikipedia). There are plenty of characters from the Kojiki that received articles, though. Back to the rabbit itself, it is notable because it plays a role in the Ōkuninushi myths, and it is revered as a god and worshipped in a shrine. Ja wiki has an article on it ja:因幡の白兎. _dk (talk) 10:09, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While we are on the topic of Touhou (tangentially), do you want to help me make the rest of the game articles? _dk (talk) 10:11, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I'd really be qualified. I've played all the game sans IaMP and SWR, though I'm not sure how to describe the gameplay between the various games, and have no knowledge of any development info. Besides that, I know little about the actual plots. Looking at Mountain of Faith as an example, I'm uncertain that I'd be able to contribute anything substantial for future articles (or even to the existing ones, since I've never edited any of them substantially if I remember correctly). As for the White Hare, I'll agree now that an article seems worthwhile.-- 12:46, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's too bad then, I could use some help since I had been doing this alone for the past few years...! (Going at a painfully slow rate of 2 new Touhou articles per year) I also plan to make articles for the two official Touhou manga series and finally rewrite a portion of the Touhou Project article, so who knows when I'll finish! =D _dk (talk) 22:23, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Touhou main characters.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Touhou main characters.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:58, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipe-tan[edit]

Hi, I see you reverted my removal of her images in some articles. I suppose an example of an anime-style drawing of the fashion in question in miko, japanese school uniform, and Gothic Lolita is okay for now. You're right that there's no need to mention it's Wikipe-tan at all and therefore it's okay. I also kept her image at baro't saya since that's the only image there, and moe anthropomorphism is one of the few places it would be appropriate to actually mention Wikipe-tan. The one revision of yours I was going to contest was the image at fan service but I see someone already undid that. Wikipe-tan in this case is not part of a fictional storyline or anything so it really has nothing to do with the topic, unlike the fashion articles where she's actually wearing the said fashion. The one thing I ask is, if a better example of a free anime/culture image of one of those fashion styles becomes available, would you mind if it was replaced with the Wikipe-tan image? It would be nice to have an image mentioned in the text of those "anime/culture" sections, although that may be hard since most of them are copyrighted. LonelyMarble (talk) 21:33, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The bikini Wikipe-tan, I admit, isn't really fanservice since it is not from a piece of fiction servicing its fans, but then I saw the caption that was there and thought, "well, that might work". Then I saw someone reverted me for being OR, which I agree to, so I left it alone. I wouldn't mind if free anime images replaces the Wikipe-tan images, though I don't really think it is necessary other than readers wondering what is up with that girl who dyed her hair blue and put puzzle pieces in her hair. _dk (talk) 21:49, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What I mean by replacing Wikipe-tan is, take the cultural significance section of Japanese school uniform for an example. A better image than the Wikipe-tan one could be an image of a modified uniform or an image of the outfit of Bōsōzoku biker gangs. Or for an anime image, an image of a character actually featured in anime or manga would be better than Wikipe-tan, but most actual characters are copyrighted which is the problem. Basically an image that is described in the text is best, but a generic anime art image is fine for now I guess. LonelyMarble (talk) 22:25, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the reason these Wikipe-tan images exist in the first place is because people wanted anime art in those articles but cannot use copyrighted characters. I agree that the image should relate to what is being described by the adjacent text as much as possible, but sometimes we'll just have to make do with what we have. _dk (talk) 22:37, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with File:StudioEgo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:StudioEgo.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 23:53, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Art of War[edit]

Hi. As a member of the task force, I was wondering if you might be interested in some major proposed changes to The Art of War article. I'm not an expert on Chinese texts, but as the changes are being proposed by a new editor to Wikipedia, and involve some rather sweeping structural and content modification, I'm trying to get as many sets of eyes on the process as possible. Zhang He[edit]

How was it the wrong game? Are you implying that the butterflies, pink outfits and fairy wings are only in Kessen or something? If so, I've never played Kessen so I can't say. But it was true in all of the Dynasty Warriors games I've played. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.129.116 (talk) 21:07, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You edited the paragraph on Romance of the Three Kingdoms (game), not Dynasty Warriors, man. Calling him "faggoty" is hardly appropriate either. _dk (talk) 21:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Calling him homosexual is quite inappropriate in this situation. It was not meant as an insult, it was merely a descriptive word. Also butt plugs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.129.116 (talk) 02:26, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yi Zhongtian[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you've heard about Professor Yi Zhongtian (易中天) from Xiamen University. He wrote a book called Yi Zhong Tian Pin San Guo (易中天品三國) on the Three Kingdoms. He's also conducted a series of lectures on Lecture Room as well. I've watched some of his lectures and read his book and found the information to be interesting and of great relevance. Can it be integrated into Three Kingdoms articles in some way? Here's a link to Baidu Baike for information about his book. [3] Thanks Lonelydarksky (talk) 09:31, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've watched some episodes a few years ago. His lectures are interesting, if a bit oriented toward the Romance crowd. If you find anything in the book that you think should be added in, by all means, provide the page numbers and integrate! Cheers. _dk (talk) 09:35, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Years[edit]

Maybe I was wrong about the birth year of Guan Yu, but what about Huang Zhong? He died when he was 75 I typed in Born 145. he died in 220. Subract that and what do you get? 75 Now please tell me what's wrong with changing that —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mccar (talkcontribs) 06:53, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was no record of how old he was when he died in history, the authoritative source of which is the Records of the Three Kingdoms. Unless you can manage to show me a reliable source where it's been shown he died at 75, I'm afraid I'd have to revert the addition. Cheers. _dk (talk) 06:57, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help with creating infobox[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me create an infobox for the Water Margin characters at Template:Water Margin character infobox, similar to those for the Three Kingdoms characters. I've created a documentation subpage here but I don't know exactly how to create the infobox and go through all the admin work required. So I'm hoping that you can help me out on this. By the way, are you interested in joining WikiProject Water Margin? You can help us out and we need more members. Thanks. Lonelydarksky (talk) 08:56, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was not the one who made the infobox so I am not really confident with making one, but I guess I can build upon the one we have. There's no admin work required to make an infobox, to my knowledge, and I'm not one either. And I've never read Water Margin...._dk (talk) 09:19, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks for your help. Lonelydarksky (talk) 10:46, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, check out the template now. You think this will be okay? One point is that the "designation" field has to be filled out so that there won't be a meaningless "of" hanging there. _dk (talk) 11:19, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your additions here! By the way, if you didn't know, I have been working on the main article Chinese classifier for a couple months, and am preparing to take it to FAC. You are welcome to offer comments or criticism if you're interested. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 04:26, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invitation! While I can add to the list of classifiers, I'm not too familiar with the linguistic side of them. I was even having trouble classifying my additions as classifiers or measure words! (I hope I didn't put any under the wrong category) So I'm not in a position to criticize since I have much to learn from your labour :) _dk (talk) 04:57, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, don't worry, I'm sure there are enough errors in the article that I still have something to learn from everyone ;). If you ever run across anything there that you think is incorrect or could be improved, feel free to edit it or leave me a suggestion. Best, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 13:30, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And as for having trouble classifying your additions, there's no problem there—everyone has trouble with that, even the linguists who proposed this distinction can't always agree on where some words fall! While the extremes on either side are very clear, most words probably fall somewhere on a continuum, and are a bit classifier and a bit measure word at the same time. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 13:32, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch...I'm always making typos like that... Oh, and I just thought of one thing that would definitely be useful if you're interested...checking the article for entries that are missing traditional characters. I'm trying to keep the character somewhat neutral between traditional and simplified...it's mostly in simplified (for example sentences, etc.), but when actually naming a classifier I'm trying to give both. For example, "这是一个句子" would only have simplified, but "the classifier 个 (個)" should have both. Since my formal learning was only simplified characters and I never officially learned traditional, it's possible that I've missed some. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 02:06, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's a task I can gladly take on. Expect me to be done in a few minutes :) I'm surprised that there isn't a Chinese list of classifiers that's readily available online, since I am sure that there must be so many more classifiers than we have right now on the list...! (mostly poetic and ancient usages, though) _dk (talk) 02:43, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are two lists linked from the bottom of the classifier article, although I'm not sure how good they are (to be honest I haven't looked). But yeah, lists like this would definitely be useful! I just ordered two classifier dictionaries (Fang & Connelly's recent book, from Cheng & Tsui publishers; and a Chinese-only one that was very cheap at dangdang.com but who knows if it will ever show up at my house, it seemed like a slightly sketchy website).
By the way, I am also making some small edits to the article right now, so we might end up edit conflicting :S . I'll try not to get in your way, though. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 03:18, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, it looks like you already finished before I even noticed this! That was fast! Thanks a ton, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 03:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
