Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Ira Tiffen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on Ira Tiffen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Actinus, but you didn't provide a reliable source. Draft:Ira Tiffen

Hi, the sources have not yet got to the required standard. We need to have independent, reliable, substantial sources. So far nearly every source there is connected to the subject. The only reliable independent one is a one liner from Columbia College. There should be a better reference than IMDB for the academy award. We don't count IMDB as reliable as anyone can edit this. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:30, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The last references does not work, as it seems that the url was temporary. The next step you should do is to add the reference tags to the sentences in the article so that you get the clickable number linking to the foot notes. You use <ref>url etc</ref> inserted after the sentence to show where the information for the sentence came from. see WP:Referencing for beginners. Is there any independent reference for the emmy award? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:47, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to delete the text about the Emmy Award, as it is verified. But if you could find an independent source, it would help show notability. It is something that would very likely be published elsewhere (if it is true). At the moment we only have a small amount of text from sources used for WP:N, so the article still may not survive an WP:AFD - delete discussion. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:29, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined speedy deletes

I have declined 3 speedy deletion nominations you made. Please go back and read the criterion. You had nominated all three of them as A1. All three of them had enough content to understand what the article was about. -- GB fan 11:20, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. I put a few as missing information, which they were. Adotchar (talk) 12:24, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The articles may have been missing information, but that is not a reason to delete them. You need to make sure when you tag an article for speedy deletion it actually meets the criterion. -- GB fan 12:55, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I put a few as missing information, not delete. Only 3 were speedy deletion, and they were seemingly useless. Adotchar (talk) 14:24, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ira Tiffen image

Please do not upload it again. It is from a copyrighted site. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:11, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's a picture taken by Ira Tiffen, uploaded to his own LinkedIn page by himself, who I am currently sitting with, viewing his page. If you want, I can get a very similar image that's not on LinkedIn, but it wont be as good. Adotchar (talk) 22:13, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
First, Mr. Tiffen would need to send in permission. Second, why not take a pic with your smartphone and upload it? Third, are you working for Tiffen? Are you being paid to edit his article? Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:18, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not being paid to edit his article or being paid to do anything, for that matter. I'm not working for him, either. I'll get another picture and upload it later.
Okay. Thank you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:26, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, is it okay if I have Ira Tiffen's LinkedIn page state on it somewhere that it is permitted for the picture to be used on wikipedia? Adotchar (talk) 22:55, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know. Consider checking the bottom links at that site regarding copyrights or contacting personnel there to ask. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:00, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ira Tiffen put the photo there, it's his, taken by him. Not copyrighted.
I understand, but we do not know that. If the site is copyrighted, then we need his permission to be sure. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:17, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Big Three (Peru)

Hi there, could you please explain why you tagged the Big Three (Peru) article for neutrality? Those three clubs are known as the big three in Peru. The tone is also neutral, I wrote objectively about it, and only stated facts. I also cited sources. The tag you added to the page says there is a discussion and explanation on the talk page, but there is none, so I thought I would ask why you tagged the article for neutrality, thanks. (Subzzee (talk) 05:46, 21 May 2016 (UTC))[reply]

The neutrality of the article could be disputed. I'm not disputing it's nickname, but you described some of it as "great", as well as "most successful". I'll remove the tag, but please fix it. Thanks, Adotchar (talk) 13:00, 21 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering, do you speak english fluently? I went to the page, and there were so many problems with spelling and the way you worded different things, making it very hard to read. For example, you put "Nabor state" and not neighboring states, making it seem as though there is a state called the Nabor state within India, which there is not, as well as many other mistakes. Please fix your pages to help native english speakers understand it, as it may be confusing. Adotchar (talk) 14:47, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

May 2016

Information icon Hello Adotchar. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at TV CRIME. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. SwingThought Tour

You marked SwingThought Tour as reviewed. Such a large amount of text added in a single edit with [1] etc. is a strong indication that it is copy pasted. Hello again. Same goes for articles with heavily promotional language, like the line about David Sparte being a "modern-day story-teller who offers us a sometimes dark but totally unbiased vision of reality". Before you spend your time editing it to have a more appropriate tone, Google it to check whether the whole article is (as it was here) just copypasted from the musician's own website. --McGeddon (talk) 11:08, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removed prod on Carol Mann

Hi! I'm just curious what reason you have for deleting the PROD on Carol Mann (artist)? I do not see that you made any iumprovements to the article or changed it-- you just deleted it and said she was notable, and tagged it as POV. Question: References covering content distributed in a Wiki page

Thank you, Adotchar, for reviewing my article on Brigadier General Frederic B Bates.

I am new to creating Wiki pages and I'm sure I will get better with time.

My question is that the eight references that I already linked to the content do cover ALL the material I wrote up. The approach I used was to put the reference against the first item that used that reference. How should I reference the following material? Should I be repeating the references? Or is there a smarter technique?

Maybe there is a Wiki page already that answers this question, which would make your reply easy. However, I've been looking and haven't found one.

This is also the first time I've used a talk page, so I hope I'm doing this right and will get a link to your response.

Thanks again for helping me.

File permission problem with File:Ira Tiffen Portrait.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ira Tiffen Portrait.jpg, which you've attributed to Ira Tiffen. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:22, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tag-bombing of Attract-kill pattern

Hi Adotchar, you tagged an article with four references as unreferenced. You also said that a one paragraph article needed to be divided into sections. Did you give this article two whole seconds of glance? Adding header bars around the word references would right there have solved two of the problems that you tagged, (one not actually even being true in the first place). LadyofShalott 01:35, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I sincerely apologize for all harm this may have caused. I reviewed the page Attract-kill pattern, and found the following. I put a sections tag on it, as it was a paragraph with many facts that should be in different sections, not all in the header. The unreferenced was used as the references it had were not links, and the only pages I could find by searching the identification of the references in google was a few pages about "Plant-Plant-Microbe Mechanisms Involved in Soil-Borne Disease Suppression on a Maize and Pepper Intercropping System". The references are not able to be accessed or proved, there really should be a link in there. Though it does not need a link, and the references policy only has one section on links, the references were hard to verify, and I couldn't. Adotchar (talk) 09:33, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I think you have a misunderstanding about verifiability. It is required that references be veriable, not that they be easily so. For references to be valid, there is zero requirement that they be online. Print-only references that you have to physically haul yourself to a library (and quite possibly have to request interlibrary loan) to verify may be more time consuming to verify, but they are valid. Please do not mark any more articles as unreferenced simply because the references are not online. (See Wikipedia:Offline sources.)
As for sections, that is more a length and readability issue. A one paragraph article has no need for multiple sections. Now, if each of the sentences of that article were expanded into a full paragraph or paragraphs, then yes, multiple sections are needed. One paragraph is not hard visually to process; a wall of text needs to be broken up to be easily read on the screen. Does that make sense? LadyofShalott 02:57, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help. Adotchar (talk) 09:15, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please, Adotchar, remove that now. That is unwelcoming at best and, frankly, vaguely threatening. If you don't delete that from that user's page, I will. That is not acceptable. LadyofShalott 03:24, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've just removed it. Please do not replace that. It is wholly inappropriate, and I am disturbed you would think otherwise. LadyofShalott 03:29, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As it is text on a screen, it is quite easy to mistake the humorous tone for a more threatening one. I apologize for any problems, as I meant the message to be humorous, which is why I added the trout to try to make it unmistakably humorous, as well as the humour tag on the top of the section, and saying in the beginning of the section that I revised by earlier message to make it more humorous, as to note bite the newcomers. Since the note had a purpose, I'll put it back in very, very plain terms, as not to be confused. Adotchar (talk) 09:23, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, and the editing of your comments. This is a non-native speaker's first experience at editing and I will get them back on track. I'm pretty new at this as well so keep an eye us! Jparcoeur (talk) 11:06, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your understanding! If you ever need any help, please contact me. Is it okay if I periodically check on the pages (non-threateningly) that were assigned to people in your course? Adotchar (talk) 12:21, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
