Puppini Sisters -> Blue Dolls

Hi, thanks for your contribution on Puppini Sisters. Do you know Blue Dolls (www.bluedolls.it)? It's an emerging Italian girl group, born one year ago and already famous, thanks to several partecipations to a well known Italian TV show (Markette). Would you like to write about them? I'm owner of photo and video material that I could handle to you and authorize you to publish. Thanks in any case, Ciao, Paolo p.s. if you need to contact me you can write at paolo.volanteATcittadeljazz.com

10 Palace Gate

I have uploaded some of the pictures I took to [1] will upload to commons later. The front is slightly curved which I have tried to photograph in a way that doesnt look like lens distortion. Justinc 14:12, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Lovcenac

Just a question: what is your interest in Sekitsch (or Lovcenac as they call it), or how did you come to that page? Thanks - Adam Mathias 04:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Adam: No particular interest. I simply arrived at the page via the 'Random Article' link. I was attracted by the page layout, which I thought was very good. I enjoy editing for grammar, so I polished up the captions. I deduced that the writer intended to say 'post office', not 'stamp', since very few (if any?) villages ever issued stamps. I looked at your user page: your roots are from the area, I presume? Verne Equinox 23:12, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Hey hey - The reason I said stamp was because the image is in fact of a postmark from that time - now that I think about it, a postage stamp is not necessarily the same as a postmark (I think I just blew off the difference as a US/UK disparity), and now that I look at it, they have different articles in wiki, but translating from German (Briefmarke) and being of the email generation I overlooked that critical difference. Anyways, thanks for making that edit - when I created the article I put in a ton of information, and it definitely needed refining (done of course by User:PANNONIAN, who is very meticulous though not a native English speaker). About my roots, my dad's mom is from the village, and his dad is from the next one over (they are actually one but you know how it is down there). Maybe you can therefore deduce that they are Danube Swabians (speaking of an article that needs major improvement!). I took a couple of the pictures on the page when I visited in 2003 (I was actually born and raised in the States, if you can't tell from my colloquialisms). I didn't really think any high-traffic article linked to it, so I figured it was random page, but I had to ask. Anyways, you do know that clicking the 'Random Article' button is considered a sign of wikiholism? Not that I'm one to talk. Adam Mathias 03:38, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
I made some edits to Danube Swabians, just for fun - and believe me, it was not in bad shape. I remember doing an edit of a page not long ago (Zingst) that looked to have been translated using BabelFish. Take a look at the November 15, 2005 version and compare it to the current one. Now that was tough. Yes I believe I am veering towards wikiholism, but isn't it fun? Verne Equinox 19:24, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your contributions! I saw that and touched it up (mostly my own past mistakes). Yes, I've seen some pitiful examples of English (and that's not including talk pages) on Wikipedia. For example, "Sin Dios" was rendered as "No God". My thought was, even Babelfish could have done a better job. Joschka Fischer had a paragraph that was clearly German with some English words and false friends, and (my comment was that it) was understandable only to those who speak both German and English. Verne Equinox - excellent revisions, and headers well selected. When I first wrote the major edit that exists today, I was unregistered and un-used to editing; thanks for the great work! -- Vanwall Feb. 4 2006

My pleasure. Verne Equinox 21:53, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm curious about the name. Is it also called "Canadian Forces Base 9 Wing Gander"? If so that needs to be in the first sentence. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

As you can tell from earlier posts, there are a lot more knowlegable people than me on this subject (I just dropped by to fix a link). Nonetheless, I have made the requested change to reflect what I understand of 9 Wing's relationship to the airport. I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the help. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 05:56, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Brickbats

Here is my first brick (I think). It was posted to my user page anonymously by someone, I guess, who opposed my reversion of one of his or her edits.

This is your nice Wiki

Wikipedia has no policies, applied consistently. All the admins on en-l openly admit counting any shred of persanal fairness as mattering less than developing Wikipedia as they wish. Blocking of only 1 side when 2 sides have done exactly the same thing that the block is supposed to have been for, is routine. It's what happened to me too, and claiming to have any rights against a biased 2-day block actually was the offence that got me permablocked, after only 5 weeks' membership. Look at all these:

a voice from within Wikipedia's own system describes how the ArbCom and dispute resolution systems are rigged with discretionary catch-alls that always enable admin to win http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-June/024230.html on how force of group numbers dictates Wikipedia pages's content http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-July/025936.html this is actually called "don't bother reporting abusive admins"

http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-July/025921.html I was wary of how the umpiring of pages the whole world can fight over could possibly work well, but I was drawn into Wikipedia by a friend who was briefly (and no longer is, already!) having good experiences with sharing his medical concerns on a couple of pages on medical subjects. My Wiki name was Tern, and here are 2 administrators saying to me http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-August/027816.html http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-August/027817.html saying "You are not entitled to anything" and "Wikipedia is not a democracy." On the nature of Wikipedia: http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2005-July/025583.html http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/08/322087.html http://spectrum-fairness.blog.co.uk/

messages of support: "some of the people on there do seem pretty sarcastic and bullying .... some of the right-wingers on there seem to think mentioning anything negative but factual about Reagan or Bush constitutes bias and there do seem to be some nasty characters on there." - from Aspievision, http://s13.invisionfree.com/aspievision/index.php "You are not the only one who has had problems with Wikipedia taking sides in a dispute, and being blatantly unfair to the other side without even giving them a chance to defend themselves." from FAMSecretSociety, a Yahoo group " of late I've noticed that some independent contributions have been either radically edited or censored. I've not had time to check articles on 9/11, the London Bombings, the assault on Falluja etc, but judging from the way content was edited promptly out of articles on SSRIs, schizophrenia and Asperger's, there definitely seem to be operatives in place ready to clamp down on anything that may cast doubt on establishment canards." from Medialens, http://www.medialens.org/board/

Re: Battle of Bushy Run

Thank you for the notice. I've updated the copyright tag accordingly. I knew at any rate that the copyright on the image had expired, so I guess I got sloppy when it came to verifying the artist. Cheers, Albrecht 23:48, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Good call!

I totally agree and took care of it. Much better now. Thank you for bringing the fact that there were two articles. I combined them into one improved article and redirected to Jersey Wooly (shouldn't be "Jersey Wooly Rabbit" anymore than it should be "Golden Retriever dog" or "Maine Coon cat") so no matter what someone types they will get to the right page. Awesome catch! See yah!Gator (talk) 14:44, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Re:Bell Labs

Hey thanks for the comment - that's no problem, I absolutely love improving articles to higher standards, that's what I'm here for. :) Now all the article needs is some references, a copy-edit and more information - then we can get it peer reviewed and maybe to featured status? — Wackymacs 18:33, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Boti Bliss

Thanks for contributing to the Boti Bliss page. Unfortunately the picture you captured is not Boti. Here she is http://www.hotflick.net/pictures/Boti_Bliss_032.html. Do you think you could get a capture of her? Probably can't post the one in the link, or can we? Jazzy joe 03:59, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:FirstBaptistAmherstNS.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:FirstBaptistAmherstNS.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:05, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:BellInn1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:BellInn1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 15:39, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Merv Griffin

I believe I based my version of it from the IMDB biography (which is cited) and probably the NNDB page (which is not). NNDB now has a link to his official site too, so that might be worth looking into. howcheng {chat} 23:57, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Louis Freeh

Good work copyediting the Louis Freeh article. I made two subsequent corrections:

  • I removed "U.S." from the opening sentence; while it was there to specify the nationality of the FBI, it might be unnecessary since the next sentence states that he was a "United States Attorney," etc.
  • Freeh is not a member of Opus Dei; I made a note of that.

Keep up the good work. Paul 04:23, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for such a lovely job! I never thought of doing such a cleaning up. And thanks for letting me know; that was very kind. --MaxHund 19:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Excellent article, I enjoyed reading it very much. -- Samir धर्म 05:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Samir: Thanks for the kind comment. I have been to Fermont. It is certainly an interesting place, but I cannot say I would want to live there for very long. The idea of being cooped up in a building for months on end is not really that charming - to me at least. And the design has been criticized - I cannot remember where - for failing to "embrace" the winter, instead it has turned its back on it. There is a lovely lake for example that surrounds the community, but it does not seem to come into play in the overall planning scheme. Best wishes, Verne Equinox 13:53, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Allegations of sock puppetry on the Center for Science in the Public Interest page

Allegations of sock puppetry have been made against some of the accounts that have edited the Center for Science in the Public Interest page. I have instigated the wiki process for handling such allegations. See Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/David Justin. As someone who has contributed to the CSPI page, please add your views to the Comments section. You have up to 10 days to make comments on the allegation. Image:NinaJacobson2006.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:NinaJacobson2006.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - crz crztalk 19:12, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Ara Celi has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this person might not be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (people) for the relevant guidelines. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" template, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but if an editor is still not satisfied that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. NickelShoe (Talk) 17:51, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I've added a additional info and references that I think help identify this person as at least active in Hollywood and having contributed to a number of notable projects. As a result I have also removed the deletion notice. Thanks for doing your job. Verne Equinox 21:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
