Welcome![edit]

Hi, Vishalyajnik, and Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the encyclopedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. There are thousands of ways to get help on Wikipedia, and I personally recommend the Wikipedia:Boot_Camp, where you can even chat online with fellow Wikipedians willing to help! In addition, Wikipedia also has thousands of pages dedicated to the use of Wikipedia, for example, if you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. Also, feel free to post them on my user talk page - I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Additional tips[edit]

Here are some extra tips to help you get around in Wikipedia:

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. If your keyboard doesn't have tildes (or for whatever reason) you can also click the button on the bar above the editing section.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.

Reply[edit]

I am going to be out all day today, I'll reply tomorrow. Can you put a link to your draft on my talk please Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:24, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The deleted text was a copyright violation of this page. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

I think you need to recreate in your own words. You used these references, if that helps

It's OK as far as it goes, but you know seem to have only one reference, to Forbes. Better to add at least one more good ref. You can improve the appearance of your refs by using this format instead of a bare url <ref>[url description]</ref>
You can recreate it directly, the old version doesn't have to be restored.

I made these edits. Your refs would look better if formatted as I suggested above, but that's not compulsory, let's see what happens Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:15, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It looks more convincing now. I still think that the appearance would be improved using <ref>[url description]</ref> for the refs, but that isn't obligatory. I made a couple of technical changes (deleting and restoring to regain the full history) and also made the early copyright versions inaccessible Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:12, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It looks OK now, I made a few edits, some formatting, some removing weasel words like "numerous" awards, and I added a cite tag to the claim that he was a top achiever at school which either needs referencing or removal, Good luck Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:58, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It looks OK to me, and I wouldn't expect speedy deletion. If any problems do arise, you should be able to fix them without deletion Jimfbleak - talk to me? 17:03, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The unreviewed tag is added automatically, it's not a threat. Someone will eventually check that it's not in breach of our policies and remove the tag, but you shouldn't do so yourself (some tags are replaced automatically by a bot, but I don't know if this is one) Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:00, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rakesh Kumar[edit]

Looks pretty good. I'd suggest the following changes

  • You refer to him by his first name throughout. That is rather informal for an encyclopaedia, particulalry in an Indian context, better to change to his surname
  • Avoid loaded words like active, very active, top ten especially when they are not referenced. I'd also omit successful, even where it is referenced, looks deferential
  • integrate the award into the main text. There isn't enough for a stand-alone section, and it looks spammy

good luck Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:49, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Rakesh Khanna[edit]

Hello, Vishalyajnik,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Rakesh Khanna should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rakesh Khanna .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Gaff ταλκ 07:00, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

  • I've removed the unreviewed tag from the article. The deletion review must run its course. User:Gaff has moved your comment to that page. I suggest that you take your comment out of the table format, and precede it with *Keep if that is your intention.
  • media persons find him influential and often derive from his career graph — unless you can prove that with independent sources, take it out.
  • A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. — I think you are stuck with that. It's obvious from your edits that you either work for Syntel or you are commissioned by that company. It's not a reason for deletion though, it's the notability that is at issue

Rakesh Khanna[edit]

Hi Vishalyajnik,

Sorry, but I am not allowed to take the tag off of the page. The process needs to go forward. If you follow the link on the tag, you can participate in the discussion at the Articles for Deletion page here. If either you or I try to take off the tag, it will cause problems. That needs to be done by and administrator. Usually takes about a week. Cheers, --Gaff ταλκ 17:07, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
