Use of American[edit]

I notice that you are currently creating a number of article related to American atheletes. Could you use [[United States|American]] to link the word American? American points to a disambiguation page and will probably cause more confusion than anything if you continue to link to that article.. I apologise I hadn't realised that American did not redirect to United States like many other nationalities. I will try to be more careful in future.

Use of German[edit]

Similar to the American problem above, [[German]] is a disambiguation page as well. In your pages about German athletes, please use one of:

Hi nice articles on olympians similar to my work but the way it is worded as if people born in 1881 are still decathletes and still living!!!! I mean there is year of birth but no death and you say ...... is a German decathlete. It needs putting in chronological context e.g ...... was a german decathlete who competed in the 1920s. Welcome[edit]

I think you're doing great work on articles for Olympians. However, if I could make a couple of suggestions.

A) New pages should not be marked as "minor" changes. B) I'm working hard on sorting the Olympic medalists into country subcategories. For example, Harold Cagle should be categorized as Category:Olympic silver medalists for the United States instead of just Category: Olympic silver medalists. C) The style guide on Wikipedia is really picky about capitalization. Something like "High jump" should have an uppercase H and a lowercase j. However, if it's used in the middle of a sentence, it should be all undercase. In the header box in the medals table, athletics should be undercase (Men's athletics not Men's Athletics).

Hi there. I removed the Ghana-bio-stub you added to Glynn Hurst. As far as I know, he's always been classified as South African, despite being born in Britain, where he's spent his entire career. THanks again for your great work particularly I have noticed this weekend. But one pointer. On your articles on Athletes you can be more specific in your links for example. Johnson competed in Athletics at the 1932 Summer Olympics rather than just 1932 Summer Olympics - this will take you directly to the Athletics page. Stub Sorting[edit]

Hi Waacstats,

I noticed you helped sorth the United States sports venue stubs, I've now finished those and there are only buildings in places like Guam or the US Virgin Islands left. I was wondering if you wanted to help double stub all the articles in the sub-cats of the US building and structure stubs such as airports, bridges or museums with the appropriate state-struct-stub tags.

I would suggest starting with the airports, only if you are interested in doing so of course.

Carel Godin de Beaufort[edit]

Would you be kind enough to explain to me, why the article on former Formula 1 racing driver Carel Godin de Beaufort is still considered to be a stub? Having read it, in my eyes it gives quite a good and more or less complete picture of this former Dutch sportsman. Being a fellow-countryman and having followed most of his career from near by, in my opinion there isn't much more to add to what already has been written up to now. Stub category??[edit]

You modified the stubs on Francis Tregian the Elder and Francis Tregian the Younger to 'crime' stubs. I honestly don't think this is right - the former is noted for his staunch Catholicism (there have been recent moves calling for his sanctification), and the latter is most famous for his compilation of the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. No 'crimes' were committed, unless you call recusancy a crime, and in any case even if you do, these people were notable for things other than their recusancy. Michele or not Michele - that is the question[edit]

Is 'Michele" the correct spelling of the 1964 Olympic and triple CG medalist? The Commonwealth Games site gives it as "Michelle Mary Brown (nee Mason)" and this is the more common spelling in Australia. See http://www.thecgf.com/games/athlete.asp and then dig for the 1958 games results in Athletics - Womens High Jump) as does http://www.olympic.org/ which renders her family name as "MASON-BROWN". Stubs by country[edit]

Hi W - Thought you'd like to know that I've finished the list of "country"-specific geo-stubs at User:Grutness/Geo-stub list. That should give some sort of template to the -bio-, -politician- etc stub types. Note that there are a handful of countries that may need their templates changed to bring them into line with all the others before making too many templates for them (most are like the BiH one and just need a swap-around of redirects) - they're listed separately at the bottom of the list. That sounds great. Are you going through the list alphabetically? Africa, Europe and Central and South America are almost complete -politician-stub wise (the Falklands and Cyprus are missing and French Guiana is probably not worth the while as it has only a single article about a politician). I've put Macedonia on hold since these templates are up for renaming. I'll be doing Asia next, but it might take a few weeks. Hi Waacstats - hope you don't mind but I've just moved one of your new templates from SaoTomePrincipe-bio-stub to SãoToméPríncipe-bio-stub, leaving the original as a redirect. Diacriticals are no longer the problem for WP they once were, and those countries that have them in their names generally now also have them in their stub templates (with a "plain language" redirect). I think the only other "national" level ones where this is worth noting are Réunion, Curaçao and Åland. BTW, I agree with Valentinian - looks like you're doing a ton of work on this! I'm busy trying to get the last of the redlinks off that geo-stub list; hopefully they'll all be gone very soon. Grutness...wha? 01:59, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question about stubs[edit]

Hi Neil, I see you're part of the WikiProject stub sorting. I am a newer user to Wikipedia -- I've really only edited pages -- but I want to propose a stub for the Big Brother (US) main page to create a section devoted to the various strategies used in the game. I made it part of the main article and one guy had a problem with it -- even though no one else seemed to take issue with it, I'd rather not argue with him and I think it would make a good stub article anyway. I read the directions on making stubs and I'm still confused. Am I allowed to make a stub or does someone with more authority need to? Am I supposed to plead a case as to why I think this topic deserves a stub, or do I just state my interest in creating it? And I don't quite understand the category business, either. Sorry I'm such a newbie, Wikipedia has a very unique way of doing things and I'd appreciate any help or pointing me to someone who can help. Cheers. --Teehee11 04:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... and an SSDI search turns up no results for a Robert Young born on that day. Not conclusive, but it's certainly possible that he's alive and 91. To de-stub or not de-stub, that is the question...[edit]

When I created the Padraig O'Malley article, I was able to find and include more information than is typical for a stub. On the other hand, I haven't (yet) found his birthdate or his specific academic history. (The latter point is covered solely by the list of universities he attended, according to his website, with no third-party sourcing and no specifics about dates, degrees, and fields studied. For a professor, those lacunae are significant.) Therefore, I thought it should be considered a stub. Another factor was that, in a close case, I lean toward labeling an article as a stub when I myself created it.

You aren't subject to the latter consideration, so I appreciate your objective assessment that it's not a stub. You evidently work with stub sorting much more than I do, so I'll accept your view that it's not a stub even though key data are missing. Thanks for reviewing the article!
