Your edit to O. Brune. Are you certain he was american? His supervisor, Cauer, was German. SpinningSpark 16:55, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair cop, it WAS me. SpinningSpark 18:16, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok here's the real truth, he is not American and he is not German. He is South African and I have added a ref. Don't know if you want to revisit the cats with that information. SpinningSpark 22:41, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My 2p[edit]

I would like to modestly call attention to an essay I just wrote called "The nature of stub sorters." I am inviting a select few to peruse it at leisure and offer comments or changes if desired. I don't know what purpose it will serve, although I may cite it on occasions when we moppers are more than usually misunderstood. Thank you for reading. Sports venes of Europe[edit]

Hi dude. I'd do some further research and propose creating the full whack of templates if I was you and reducing that 800 as much as poss, Count Blofeld 16:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah I thought there must be some reason for it as you are usually completely on the ball with stub sorting, especially sport related. Yes it is surprising that coverage is more even although I think that has a lot to do with User:Patken creating a stadium on just about every country in and island in the world. Are you certain that many of the Europeam countries don't have 60 venues? If so I can help stub a few to make them viable. P.S yes us Welshmen should stick together! There are few others editors who are "world renowned" on wikipedia from Wales except us and User:SethWales. Count Blofeld 17:05, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit count[edit]

Do you realise that between us Welshmen we have a crazy 370,000 edits. I'm approaching 200,000, you're approaching 170,000. Amazing!

Remember though we regularly do many edits a minute with stub tagging and tagging so the amount is rather inflated. It snot as if every one is a long studious edit. We pretty much function as bots half the time. Count Blofeld 21:33, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

metro stubs[edit]

Hi WS - I've just moved your new {{Chicago-Metro-stub}} to {{Chicago-metro-stub}}, which is what was listed on the proposal page. I hope it was right to be at the lower-case name. It probably doesn't make much difference if the other one (whichever is the wrong name) gets left as a redirect, but if you feel one of them needs to go to SFD, feel free... CVC of Atlanta Categorization[edit]

Hello Waacstats. Since you added the CVC page to the organization stubs, I was wondering if you would consider evaluating the categories I put the page under: Atlanta based Organizations and Non-profits based in Georgia (U.S. State). I also put it under the nonprofit organization stub. But I am uncertain if it is really a stub. It is longer than some non-stub entries i.e. The Georgia Public Policy Foundation. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Mullerman83 (talk) 17:18, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stub sorting[edit]

OK I'll have a look in Spanish wikipedia but you can see the huge uneveness in coverage. Anyway thanks for sorting the French museums, check again you'll see there should now be just over 60 stubs The Bald One White cat 11:08, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. greatly appreciate your work with stub sorting there is a huge amount to do over the last few months so I have been trying to limit my new proposals as it keeps piling up! The Bald One White cat 11:10, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its amazing how you always seem to be thinking what I'm thinking!! Yes exactly at this moment I was just thinking the possibilities with the new image over flag with what they could be used for. I know hundreds of stub templates for people just have the flag which should of course be changed with a person over the flag. If you mix in the possiblity of a different person icon e.g a soldier over a flag then the possibilities are enormous. The Bald One White cat 11:34, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed the cold Dwyr Cymru or however you spell it. One idea as I was looking at commons icons I noticed the video game stubs proposal you could place Image:Joystick icon.svg over the necessary flag. You'd need to create new sets of icons of course like scientist but just switch the person or object icon. The Bald One White cat 11:44, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've created the french museum cat and {{Germany-chemist-stub}}. Remember I made a proposals for chemists a few months back but we haven't got around to it yet. See my comments on the proposals page, it might be time to make an assessment of biography templates by country and professio and think about standardising them to make them consistent even if many as yet aren't viable for cateogires. It would save us a lot of trouble at a later date The Bald One White cat 14:04, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Naturally it wouldn't be done over night. I was actually excluding Africa and much of Asia when I said it and was thinking more along the lines of Europe and the larger countries of Latin America. E.g I didn't mean create Rwanda-astronomer-stub for example but certainly for Europe and countries like Mexico, Brazil. The Bald One White cat 14:26, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Me again. Can you list the scientists which don't yet reach 60 but you think could possibly be transwikied to reach it and I'll see what I can do? Also please can you speak to User talk:Bobo192 about why it is important to stub tag articles. Its really annoying that he is ignoring me and continuing to start them without caring about how they are expanded in the future. Ephraim Mokonyama etc. Perhaps you could a bit of "stub sense" into him and brandish him a few regulations? The Bald One White cat 19:32, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Surprised with Chile and Colombia looks only about 40 max for each from spanish wikipedia and thats including evne mathematics. I remember starting the Carlos Conca article and thinking how much needs transwikiying. Oh Spain will be easy. Mmm. I could find a website for countries like COlombia and Chile, university websites etc that list notable scientists etc it shouldn't be impossible. I'll have a fish around tomorrow. But for Latin America Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are always the biggies to look out for The Bald One White cat 23:06, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stub categories[edit]

Hi, Waacstats. I have a query: here it says: "propose the following templates, categories if they reach 60". Does this mean: i) when "Category:Nationality writers" reaches 60, ii) when the "What links here" of an uncreated page called "Template:Nationality-writer-stub" shows 60 pages, or iii) smth else? In the first case, for example, "Category:Modern Greek writers" hits 60, and in the second case Greece-writer-stub hits no article, while Macedonia-writer-stub hits one. And if I create a stub-cat-template that has not a big enough list as a content, will it get deleted? As you can tell, I'm quite confused. Omnipedian (talk) 11:58, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi See User talk:Mangwanani. I've proposed he creates a general one for sports bios as at present I noticed the boffin or suited guy for sports. once created it could probably be used for most sports bios on here. Hello![edit]

Hi Waacs, everything OK? See you're still doing great work with the sorting. Fraid I've been busy with article work. COuld you help finish all of the Asian structure by country apliications I started, I only reached Brunei. My aim was to try to create 60 articles for eahc country to get the main Asian stuct category split too. Let me know which need filling and I'll see what I can do as Asia structure stubs is extremely broad. E.g let me know for ones like Category:Indonesian building and structure stubs and I'll try to create another 40 articles + etc. The best thing in the long run would just to be to create cateogories for each of the Asian countries I think. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, keep up the good work. Dr. Blofeld White cat 23:10, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks thats a great help. Yes I'll take a few days sitting back but there is so much that needs to be done!! All the best Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:14, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Enjoy it! Yes it is a shame that few editors bother with the Paralympians. Many of them are wonderful athletes given some of their conditions. There are still quite a lot of weightlifters from 2008 Beijing main olympics to start too. I did a few weight divisions but got sidetracked. I'd imagine there are probably over 1000 missing articles on paralypians? Go for it! Anyway I'll create 3 quick stubs on Filipino lighthouses to make the category viable. I'll work on the others after my break. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I didn't word it that well admittedly. I'm making good prgress with the stub building, Philippines, Georgia, Sudi Arabia and Lebanon should now be viable. 23 more stubs to create for Cambodia now.... I see it as a priority, it just seems so dreadfully narrow of the encyclopedia to read an article on a mosque in Lebanon and have it classed as an "Asian building stub". There must be billions of buildings in Asia!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:31, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder why there is so much lag on these categories. Check out Category:Philippines building and structure stubs. 36 hours later and still they haven't all recategorised. Dr. Blofeld White cat 23:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Paralympics categories[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you had seen my response at the CFD you opened. Cgingold (talk) 11:33, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick reply. All you have to do is add a reply to my CFD comment saying that you are in agreement, and then you can add the two that need renaming over at SPEEDY renaming as I suggested. (Just replace the old templates with the new ones for SPEEDY (subst:cfr-speedy instead of subst:cfr). I'll take care of closing out the CFD section. Ukraine[edit]

Some days ago, you created Category:Paralympic medalists for the Ukraine and some adjacent categories. The most common among Wikipedia's categories seems to use "Ukraine" without "the". I have not removed, added or renamed any categories. But where duplicates existed (you created both Category:Paralympic competitors for Ukraine and Category:Paralympic competitors for the Ukraine), I moved articles from "the Ukraine" to "Ukraine" and inserted {{category redirect}} in the emptied categories. --LA2 (talk) 22:49, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any particular reason you haven't been categorizing them with "living people"? Re: Cistercians Abbey in Wąchock[edit]

I noticed that you removed {{Poland-struct-stub}} and {{Świętokrzyskie-geo-stub}} from Cistercians Abbey in Wąchock. Given your work on stub sorting, I am presuming that you are more familiar with stubs than am I. However, I am curious whether your implication here is that the article does not belong in those stub categories, or that it is long enough to be considered beyond the stub phase? Personally, I think it's still a stub, but again note that your judgment is perhaps more informed. --Geoff Capp (talk) 13:06, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Instant deletion??[edit]

Re: Harold Alfred Whistler

I was off-line a couple of hours, returned to find Whistler had been deleted, and never even had a chance to consider what to do about him. Heck, I am not even sure what disappeared. I read the deletion notice only after he was gone. If you are going to vanish 'em that quick, why bother with the message?

If given any kind of opportunity, I would have tried to work him up into a Start class article.

I think the lesson I have been taught is, don't bother creating stubs.

Proposed deletion of Roland Schwarzl[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Roland Schwarzl, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

10th place finisher at one Olympics isn't notable.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Scott Emerson, Tracy Davis, et al[edit]

Hi there. I notice that you've stub-sorted some members of the Liberal National Party of Queensland with {{Australia-National-politician-stub}}. The LNP is not the National party (it is a merged entity consisting of former members of the Nationals and Liberals in Queensland), and in the face of people like Scott Emerson and Tracy Davis quite inaccurate, as they either previously stood as Liberal candidates, or have only been a part of the new merged entity (ie: neither National or Liberal). Removal of content during stub sorting[edit]

Waacstats, in some of your edits where you are doing stub sorting, I noticed you are also accidentally removing content. For example, in this edit, you removed a non-stub category. If there's something I can do to help out using AWB, let me know - AWB is great for simple replacement tasks. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:40, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That I can't help with, sorry - but I can put in a good word for you if need be. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:23, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about Opera, but it works fine with IE. It might allow you to switch back and forth, actually; my AWB runs on IE, but I use Firefox for my other regular tasks, and AWB doesn't conflict with it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:27, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It means "What do they say in Signa?" and "That's what they say in Signa." Ser Amantio is a minor character in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and the lines about Signa are something of a running joke in the opera. "They say", basically, that Buoso Donati rewrote his will to leave everything to the monks in Signa, which is the cataylst for the whole rest of the story. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:38, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I speak French - but if it's any consolation I barely understand a word of Italian. Or much of anything else, for that matter... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:45, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my mother is Russian, and there was a girl in my high school graduating class who was Russian. And we took French together, and one day the other students were pestering us to speak to each other in Russian. We started, but mine was rusty, and I found myself thinking in French when I was searching for a word. Not that I ever actually spoke Russian well, but still. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:54, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My father's a polyglot - he studied French, Russian, and Spanish in school, and taught himself German and Italian. Me, I've picked up lashings of one and another language, but can only really understand French well. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:59, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
