Interview Request on Wikimedia Privacy Policy Changes[edit]

Hi Waacstats,

My name's Anthony, and I'm Social Media Editor for IBTMedia. I'm doing a story about the big announcement re: Privacy Policy changes that are rolling out tomorrow, and I'd love to talk to you. Would you email me at a.smith[at]ibtimes.com? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.66.114.182 (talk) 15:02, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bishops in South Africa[edit]

Hi - thank you for your recent efforts with "Short descriptions" for various Southern African Bishops. I am wondering whether for most of them "Anglican bishop" might not serve best. George Knight-Bruce is characterised as such but his successor William Thomas Gaul is "Irish bishop". Edward Crowther is given as "South African bishop" but might equally be "British bishop" (as Wilfrid Gore Browne is described) or "American bishop". They were all bishops in South or Southern Africa, but would not "Anglican bishop" be best, given their potential for serving elsewhere in the Anglican Communion (as have Crowther and others)? All the best. Blarcrean (talk) 04:42, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Beveridge[edit]

Hi, i did a roll back of mentioned article for various attempts of vandalism, but inbetween you had used AWB (I am not sure yet what that means but it was good, likely some automated funcitonality) that was therefore also (i take it) rolled back. I just wanted to tell you, this was about a space inbetween "citenews" and "cite news" inside the article's references. What is AWB? Poepkop (talk) 14:19, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed you worked on this article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ron_Baratono&diff=599706351&oldid=599606116

Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

(This even applies for infoboxes.)

Thanks and my best wishes.

Wikipedia is holding a contest called the WikiSnap Challenge
The goal of this drive is to eliminate poor stub articles with not so much as a picture or info box. The contest starts on the 3rd of April and continues until a winner is declared.

Awards will be given out for all participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the contest.

Helo, dear user Waacstats. I see you have also reverted a number of my basic edits to the article on Ayub K. Ommaya. Might I know why please? I have made these in full good faith and am well aware of the family and the original/real name of Dr Ayub Khan Bamba (later Ayub Ommaya) and have served in the army with his elder brother Brig Jan Nadir Khan. I think my edits were quite justified. I hope you will please not revert these again, thanks. 39.54.250.178 (talk) 18:41, 12 April 2014 (UTC)Col (r) Mumtaz Khan, Pakistan[reply]

reverting deletion[edit]

I reverted your edit to Military career of Audie Murphy. You deleted the persondata while using AWB. I don't have access to AWB so I couldn't guess what went wrong. Chris Troutman (talk) 17:28, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

nothing went wrong, the article doesn't need the persondata template on it, as long as Audie Murphy has the template. Persondata is supposed to be for articles about people, not their military career. I'll leave the template there for now, but can't guarantee that I wont remove it later. Invitation join the new Physiology Wikiproject![edit]

Physiology gives us an understanding of how and why things in the field of medicine happen. Together, let us jumpstart the project and get it going. Our energy is all it needs.

Based on the long felt gap for categorization and improvization of WP:MED articles relating to the field of physiology, the new WikiProject Physiology has been created. WikiProject Physiology is still in its infancy and needs your help. On behalf of a group of editors striving to improve the quality of physiology articles here on Wikipedia, I would like to invite you to come on board and participate in the betterment of physiology related articles. Help us to jumpstart this WikiProject.

  • Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProkect Physiology talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • You can tag the talk pages of relevant articles with {{WikiProject Physiology|class=|importance=}} with your assessment of the article class and importance alongwith. Please note that WP:Physiology, WP:Physio, WP:Phy can be used interchangeably.
  • You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing physiology articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
  • We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
  • Why not try and strive to create a good article! Physiology related articles are often small in scope, have available sources, and only a limited amount of research available that is readily presentable!
  • Your contributions to the WikiProject page, related categories and templates is also welcome.
  • To invite other editors to this WikiProject, copy and past this template (with the signature):
  • To welcome editors of physiology articles, copy and past this template (with the signature):
  • You can feel free to contact us on the WikiProkect Physiology talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. You can also put your suggestions there and discuss the scope of participation.

Hoping for your cooperation! DiptanshuTalk 12:52, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Pierpoint[edit]

Just wanted to point out that your "personaldata" ammendment to the Richard Pierpoint article was wildly wrong as even a cursory read of the article would have shown that. Hopefully your other changes are closer to home  Natty10000 | Natter  14:38, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for correcting my edits. I apologise, I am trying to clear a backlog on the Persondata templates and both attempts were made in good faith mainly based off the categories.
With regard to your comment on the second revision that "Richard Pierpoint was never an American anything" then I think you need to look at the categories that are attached to the article: 'American slave', 'American people of Senegalese descent' and 'African Americans in the American Revolution'. Waacstats (talk) 14:58, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. WRT the other categories that are attached to the article, I would think removing them would be the correct thing to do as they seem to be applying incorrect descriptors or at the very least ones vague enough in this context as to be easily misinterpreted. He was a slave when the US was still British territory and his loyalty remained with the British ergo describing him as an "American slave is incorrect (if there's a British slaves category, that would be correct). He wasn't ever a US (American) person so that descriptor is likewise incorrectly applied.
However, I certainly don't know where you possibly could have drawn the inference that "American activist" was somehow appropriate earlier. I'd certainly like to better understand your thought process on that one  Natty10000 | Natter  15:42, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User pages[edit]

Hi, is it normal to add persondata to user pages? I've just spotted User:Ashish Sonavane and User:Aashish N. Sonawane where you added persondata to both. They don't appear to be draft articles - rather, they're almost certainly WP:NOTWEBHOST vios. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:01, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have a feeling that the persondata template was already on those articles and that I just added the Short description parameter, as to whether it is normal to add persondata to user pages I would say not but if the user has added persondata to there page I tend not to remove it. Thanks for the offer but my area of expertise is more in making small edits to multiple articles rather than attempting to improve an article to a certain level, also I know very little about Joe Walsh and if I was to look at seriously improving an article it would be on something I know a bit more about. I'm not sure why, but the PROD you applied had a timestamp of 10:13, 29 February 2012. I don't know where the PROD template gets it time from - your PC or the server..., or was it an old saved template you were using and added the wrong date in error? I've fixed the timestamp in the template to give it the full 7 days  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:25, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Posting in my Sandbox[edit]

Hello Waacstats. I see you have been posting persdondata in my Sandbox. If you want to add info to Valentine Pelka's page, please go to the actual Wikipedia article, not my Sandbox. I know you just want to help, but the Sandbox is MY place for my private experimentation. If you want to write to me privately with suggestions, that is fine, but it would be better if you leave my sandbox alone especially as per the other person you added info for since Qworty and his cronies decided last year that that screenwriter was not worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. So giving him a Screenwriter person data tag will just get other people upset and I don't need the subsequent attacks that will happen if that appears anywhere else, especially after the horrors heaped on me last year. Thank you for your attempt to help, but it is best to stop adding info to my sandbox. If you want to suggest something to me, you may do so on my Talk page. Thank you!Taram (talk) 15:10, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Salvo (artist) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. bpage (talk) 03:25, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mass upload tool[edit]

Hi Waacstats, not sure if you are on the UK mailing list, but we are about to run some training for the mass upload tool, and I thought you might be interested in that either directly, or indirectly. Also I've noticed what you have been doing re populating persondata templates and would like to discuss some interesting tasks in terms of our mass uploads. As we get some large datasets onto commons we have the opportunity to do some very large image addition runs to articles without images. We trialled this a few years back with Wikipedia:Articles with UK Geocodes but without images though this has been stalled as we were unable to refresh the list due to ArbCom restrictions on the person who created it, so I'm looking for alternative ways to identify and then tackle some very large image adding tasks.
