Speedy deletion of "Officer kicks"[edit]

A page you created, Officer kicks, has been tagged for deletion in accordance with our deletion policy. In particular, it meets one or more criteria for speedy deletion; the relevant criterion is:

No indication of importance/significance. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, organisation, or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant.

Wikipedia has certain standards for inclusion that all articles must meet. Certain types of article must establish the notability of their subject by asserting its importance or significance. Additionally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, content inappropriate for an encyclopedia, or content that would be more suited to somewhere else (such as a directory or social networking website) is not acceptable. See What Wikipedia is not for the relevant policy.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

If you have any questions, please contact an administrator for assistance. Thank you Ckatzchatspy 09:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Officer kicks[edit]

A tag has been placed on Officer kicks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. i think this is where i write this. Officer kicks have toured and played with the hoosiers, the script (both on wki) released debut single nationally and have managed to buck the system and create there own record label. i realise my 1st artical left alot to be deisered but i am going to work on it if you give us a chance. sorry to be a pain!

Your note[edit]

Hi, Wemakethings, and welcome to Wikipedia. :) I've neutralized your {{hangon}} tag above. Hangon tags are to be placed at the top of the article's page, not at the top of your talk page. The instruction for that may have been less than clear, I'm afraid. I have altered the warning template at its source to try to correct that. I'm afraid that the article has already been deleted.

With regards to this band, please take a look at the notability guidelines for bands to determine if the band meets them. If they do and you choose to create another article, it would be helpful if you could include reliable sources to verify how they do. Magazine, newspaper or journal articles can be good ways to show that a band is notable. Coverage at independent, respected websites, like Rolling Stone, can also be used. Note that sources do not necessarily have to be nationally or internationally significant to verify notability, but the coverage does need to be significant and non-promotional. A review of a concert would help; a notice of an upcoming event might not, if it only serves as an announcement. City newspapers can work; college newspapers usually will not. There are always exceptions, depending on specifics of this case. I see you say that the band has released a single. If you can demonstrate that it has charted or has been placed in rotation by a reputable radio station, that would help!

There's a bit of a learning curve on Wikipedia, but we do have places you can go to find help. I've put a "welcome" notice at the top of your page that mentions the new contributors' help page. This can be a good place to go with questions when you first arrive, since volunteers there won't presume you're necessarily familiar with other, related aspects of editing. :) We also have a general help desk where volunteers answer questions for new and experienced Wikipedians. You can even ask a question at your own page by typing your question and placing {{helpme}} (brackets and all) next to it. A volunteer will come to your page usually within an hour or so to answer you.

I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck with your article, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:06, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
