Proposed deletion of Capon Chapel

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Capon Chapel, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. These buildings are almost certainly on some sort of list of historical sites or monuments. If so, they are notable--all you need do is find out just what it is, add a reference, and remove the prod tag. DGG (talk) 18:54, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

I have nominated Prince Christian Oscar of Hanover, an article you created, for deletion. Hi.

You no like? Anything in particular? (I realize I now needn't've used the {{nowrap begin}}...{{·w}}...{{nowrap end}} formatting, but some visible dividers -- i.e. {{·}} -- would help... or maybe you'd prefer {{pad}}ding rather than dividers..?) Sardanaphalus (talk) 23:58, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your reply. If I were to amend the templates you list (and {{Greek princes}}) in a similar way to the previous {{Greek princes}} version, would that be okay?
Also, I recently passed by a number of royalty/nobility-related sidebar templates (e.g. in Sweden royalty and nobility templates) and it occurred to me that making a generic sidebar template for them to use might be worthwhile. What do you think -- or does a template like that already exist? Sardanaphalus (talk) 01:20, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark (disambiguation), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.mlahanas.de/Greece/History/Portraits/PrincessOlgaOfGreeceAndDenmark.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Copy & Paste

Hi Caponer, I've had to undo your move of Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark (born 1971) because your not supposed to copy and paste articles because it destroys the page histories, though you managed to move the talk page so I don't quite know what you were trying to do. - dwc lr (talk)

I agree it needs to be moved I tried a WP:RM a while ago. You can try Wikipedia:RM#Uncontroversial_proposals as I believe an administrator is now needed to move it to Princess Olga of Greece. - dwc lr (talk) 19:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Prince Julius

I got them over at the RoyalsPortal forums. Most of the people over there are in direct contact with the royal families (people like Marlene Eilers, Arturo Beeche, etc) and are very reliable sources. I would definitely sign up for the boards, as they are a wealth of great information! Morhange (talk) 20:12, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty much an inclusionist when it comes to wiki-articles, but even I can't see how this article conforms to Wikipedia:Notability. Perhaps you can add some sources with further information; otherwise, somebody (even me), could nominate this for deletion. Noel S McFerran (talk) 23:36, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Cadet branches

Hi Caponer! It was mainly because the article claimed the House of Windsor to be a cadet branch of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg which bothered me. I have no particular objection to Mountbatten-Windsor being added as a cadet branch, although I prefer it with out it as Mountbatten-Windsor is only a surname and not a royal house/dynasty. ;) Regards, --Cameron* 11:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Schleswig-Holstein

The Ducal branch of Sonderburg-Augustenburg extinguished twice: firstly in 1931 and secondly in 1941. The last Duke who died in 1931 chose the second son of the second son of a Duke of Sonderburg-Glücksburg as his heir. It would have been better to give it to his father or older brother already, since that way each one of the only two branches would be the new ones of their titles. But the designated heir died in World War II and the rest of the branch extinguished in 1991 or so. Which means that the two Duchies were reunited, rather than a simple alteration of the title, as it happened with Hohenzollern in 1869 and Schwarzburg in 1909. For that reason, and as it is usual, the names and designations of both ruling Houses and Realms are corrected. It's a stupid move to keep all those names attached, vanity maybe?... If there was some order and someone to make rules prevail, like the existance of an overall suseran, like the Emperor of Germany... oh, but wait, there is!... G.-M. Hi, I just have a question about the article you created; Line of succession to the throne of the Two Sicilies. Obviously the sons of Prince Alfonso, Count of Caserta are the source of prominent members in line, but is there any reason why Prince Philip of Bourbon-Two Sicilies descendants are not including and in fact it skips to his younger brother Prince Gabriel of Bourbon-Two Sicilies's descendants in the line of succession. http://www.geneall.net/ has some many flaws. http://pages.prodigy.net/ptheroff/gotha/monaco.htm also mentions three weddings. Since Christian Louis de Massy's youngest son was born after his third divorce, there are six possibilities: one, he married a fourth time; two, maybe there is a mistake on the date of divorce and they divorced later, after the birth of that son; three, he remarried his third ex-wife - happens in the United States as well as in Monaco; fourth, he never remarried her but they had another child together - weird but happens; and six, maybe he was born of an unknown mother out of wedlock and they forgot to mention!... Christian Louis de Massy

  • Many thanks for beginning the page 'Christian Louis de Massy' and for your various contributions to it. Both of these elements have been much appreciated. Needless to say, I very much hope that the page will be retained. In fact, I cannot see any logical reason why it should not. I have, however, encountered a problem with regard to the details, both on that page and also on the page 'Princess Antoinette, Baroness of Massy', of some of the marriages of Christian Louis. Is it possible that the information concerning the spouse in the second marriage, even though it is very limited, should, in fact, apply to the fourth marriage? I ask this because, after looking at a number of other web-sites, it would seem that there is someone in Monaco, at the present date, who is clearly described as being married to Christian Louis and as the 'Baronne Cécile de Massy'. It also seems reasonable to deduce that this is not the same person as was his second spouse. Is it possible, for example, that the spouses of both the second and fourth marriages had the same first-name? It would be of considerable help if more information could be found with regard to the fourth marriage.(CtznofRvna (talk) 14:15, 10 November 2008 (UTC))

Titles in infoboxes

Hello, Caponer! It is unnecessary to have the title field included in the infobox when the person's title is already given in the title of article, lead sentence, titles and styles section, and titles and styles infobox field. For example, the princely title is reapeted five times here. That causes unnecessary redundancy. Having Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece and Denmark below Prince Constantine Alexios isn't really needed. I would also like to ask you to explain your edits in the edit summary. I explained why I removed the title field, but you reverted my edit without explanation. Thank you! Surtsicna (talk) 10:03, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Plantation houses renaming

Hey, could you stop for a minute and discuss what is going on with renaming various plantation house articles? I am afraid i triggered something by renaming Oak Hill Plantation a short while ago.

There is an organized system in place for using names of NRHP-listed places, with a lot tied into it. I don't mean to say there can only be one way or that it needs to be the way most convenient for me and wp:NRHP, but could we please discuss what your goal is and what is your reasoning? Sincerely, doncram (talk) 04:22, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Is there a specific list of plantation houses that you are working off of? I believe that most or all the historic plantation houses you are renaming are listed on the NRHP. The ones that are set up with NRHP program names, and others that don't use the NRHP name, are probably mostly covered on disambiguation pages and otherwise tied into stuff. Changing names of articles requires later changes in other places. I am not sure, up front, that creating a new type of name with (plantation) rather than (city, state) where necessary for disambiguation is better. What if there are more than one plantation house with the same name, for example? I wonder if we could have an open discussion in a discussion section at wt:NRHP or elsewhere, so others could give input too. doncram (talk) 04:30, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
There are probably hundreds of plantation houses listed on the NRHP which have articles already. I don't think anyone has created a separate list-article of them, and that could be a good idea. Would you be interested in working on something like that? To start List of plantation houses or List of plantations. I notice that Plantation house, which would naturally be an article about the type and would link to a list of notable examples, is currently just a redirect to something else. doncram (talk) 04:35, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay, just got a message from you at my talk page. Would be happy if you wanted to chat here and i will reply here, to keep discussion in one place. I may have been misunderstanding, i thot you were moving articles from NRHP names to different names adding (plantation). Let's talk about a specific example or two. doncram (talk) 04:39, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Got ur 2nd message. Okay, why don't we start with the List of plantations, just start building it. About some of the moves, some of the article names that you have just preferred Rosewell (plantation) and Oak Hill (plantation) do not correspond with what shows in the articles. The articles' first sentences describe Rosewell Plantation and Oak Hill Plantation. There are many other places named Oak Hill by the way, and perhaps some of the other ones are also plantations, too. Only one is named, in the article, as Oak Hill Plantation though, so that is what i was going with. That one has official NHL name of simply Oak Hill, which is reflected in its infobox. doncram (talk) 04:46, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
I had been adding "(plantation)" for several reasons: in some cases to differentiate the article from similarly named places and in others because the capitalization and inclusion of "plantation" in the formal name is erroneous in cases where it is not in a property's formal name. Again, I apologize for not consulting NRHP names where "plantation" is in fact part of the formal name. In cases where it is part of the NRHP or NHL names, I'm in total agreement that they must be reverted somehow. (Apparently "undo" doesn't apply to article moves). In the cases where the property is not NRHP and its first sentence of its article has "Plantation" in the name, that first sentence may be incorrect and should probably only have the formal name bolded with "plantation" placed after it unbolded. --Caponer (talk) 04:50, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Okay i see you are editing at List of plantations now, that's fine. I'll let you work with it, expand it however you like, although I may comment at its Talk page.
About the renamed plantations, I guess i want to revisit these, although there is no huge rush. For our discussion, it seems you did renames for the following seven.
  1. Tuckahoe Plantation vs. Tuckahoe (plantation)
  2. Oak Hill Plantation vs. Oak Hill (plantation)
  3. Rosewell (plantation) vs. Rosewell Plantation
  4. Stratford Hall Plantation vs. Stratford Hall (plantation)
  5. Woodlawn Plantation vs. Woodlawn (plantation)
  6. Kenmore Plantation vs. Kenmore (plantation)
  7. Berry Hill Plantation vs. Berry Hill (plantation)
I guess i want to revisit each one. I could include this list in a discussion at wt:NRHP about the new list-article, too, in a day or two. doncram (talk) 05:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Could you add inline citations to this article? If you did, I think it would make a nice article for WP:DYK for the special April 1 edition. - Mgm|(talk) 10:39, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Locust Hill

Thanks for putting up Locust Hill (Leesburg, Virginia). It seems to me that this could be a daughter article for an umbrella article on the larger district, Catoctin Rural Historic District. I drive through the district about every two weeks and have pictures of some of the properties mentioned, and can obtain more. If I can figure out where Locust Hill is, I'd be glad to get its picture. Likewise for any of the other properties mentioned in the nomination form, although some of them are far back on private lanes. I'll also see if I can write something for the larger HD, with links to future articles on the individual properties, in my userspace. Acroterion (talk) 15:33, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Cornish Language WP

I see you like to contribute stubbs to this WP, by the dozen! Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any Cornish speakers coming along to fill them out, so the site appears to be full and active, but in fact as far as I can discover there is very little real content. There is an active community of people well able to write in Cornish, I speak Cornish and know many of them, but they seem uninterested in this WP. So I'm unsure what purpose the site is supposed to serve. It seems to be almost entirely driven by WP people and robots. So basically I'm interested to know what you think it should be for. This is a genuine question, not a wind-up, I really am puzzled. Mongvras (talk) 03:37, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Religion in biographies

I don't know if you're aware of this, but Template:Infobox person and its many spinoffs all include a "religion =" field for specifying the subject's religion. If you're going to categorize someone by religion, as you did with James Barbour, it wouldn't hurt to mention it in the infobox as well. It's a little strange to see someone in a category that isn't mentioned in the article proper. Rklear (talk) 14:57, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Templates are much better than categories for these, because categories tell us nothing except something belongs (maybe) in a category. Templates can tell us how and why they belong. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:07, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Apparently, so. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:25, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Tables

I've replied at my talk page. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 00:25, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey Katalaveno, I tried recreating the table from List of tallest buildings in New York City on Cornish Wikipedia at Rol a dhrehevyansow an uhella yn Cita Ebron Nowyth. Why is it not showing up the same? How can I rectify this? Thanks! --Caponer (talk) 23:41, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

It appears that the Common.css file in the Cornish Wikipedia is missing the wikitable class code that appears in Common.css on en.wikipedia. You need that code to render the table correctly. Ask an admin on the Cornish Wikipedia to look into adding the code. κaτaʟavenoTC 00:53, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
Further, the code that actually makes the sortability work is in wikibits.js, and Cornish WP's copy may need new code added to it from Eng. WP. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 19:44, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Glad to hear you got it working! κaτaʟavenoTC 22:46, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
