Hello to the administrator. On the Istro-Romanians talk page I had a long discussion with an editor. The latter added to the article the piece of information that Nikola Tesla and Matthias Flacius might've been of Istro-Romanian descent, or were Istro-Romanian themselves. He did so on Flacius' page too. Somebody already contested Tesla, I contested Flacius by adding dubious tags and "better source needed" tags, without cutting the text. However, he removed them. The reason for my objection is that the claims are, in my opinion, false and, tbh, absurd. Also, and more importantly for Wiki standards, only one source (actually, two duplicates of the same source) has been provided. The source is written in Romanian by a Romanian author, who is also the president of the only Istro-Romanian association in the world. Thus, being the claim "exceptional", I believe that one source is not enough fot the information to be published and spread via Wikipedia. The other editor disagrees. However, when I added the tags and a hidden comment, requesting for more sources, he didn't limit himself to disagree, but also undid my edits, deleting the tags.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 12:42, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Same advice as before - content disputes aren't settled by administrators. Consider dispute resolution options, such as getting a third opinion. GirthSummit (blether) 13:18, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The fact, Girth Summit, is, the other editor keeps on removing my tags asking for more, better sources, instead of fulfilling my request for the latter.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 13:28, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki.Jaap.07, I recognise that - that's what I mean by a content dispute, you are in disagreement with another editor about content. Admins don't resolve those - or rather, we are allowed to engage in discussions about content like any editor is, but our admin status doesn't give our views any additional weight in such a discussion. You have been edit warring, which is something admins might do something about, but I'm not at the point of blocking either of you yet since you seem to have stopped. As I said elsewhere - if you want to pursue this, engage with dispute resolution options.

February 2021[edit]

Information icon Hi Wiki.Jaap.07! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. --Renat (talk) 09:30, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Renat , thank you for the advice! Edit: I'm having a hard time doing that because I'm used to it; but I will pull it off!--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 09:50, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Petar Stanković requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.istrianet.org/istria/illustri/stancovich/index.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use File:Daniel Nacinovic.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Daniel Nacinovic.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dylsss(talk contribs) 23:04, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dylsss, I'm not sure I understand the meaning of it all. Is it because there is another free licensed option out there? I couldn't find it. Could you provide the link? Thanks.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 23:22, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please see WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFC#UUI, it is not whether an image could be found, but whether one could be created. Dylsss(talk contribs) 23:43, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, now I see. Can't we keep it until someone comes up with a nice free pic?--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 23:46, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution required[edit]

Most of your articles are translations of articles from the Croatian Wikipedia, but some of them don't seem to carry any attribution (examples: Ernest Jelušić, Antun Kalac). Please read WP:TFOLWP and follow the instructions there (basically, attribute in an edit summary and place a template on the talk page). Fram (talk) 11:42, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fram They do indeed. And I do follow instructions, please, read them over again more carefully if you can't see that. I will improve the article if necessary, but it doesn't seem the case, and I can't imagine anyone asking for me to work on them further as regards sources, except if someone wanted to bother me or hinder/undermine my work. But that sounds crazy, right? All sources verified, articles legit; comparable with their version on Istrapedia and/or the Croatian Encyclopedia. Reference (at least) at the end of each paragraph; articles are more substantially referenced than the average on the subject, as well as Wikipedia. Finally, I don't wish to discuss with you any further on this or any other matter, as I deem your behaviour questionable, not correct and dangerous for the community of Wikipedia, based on your recent words. So I will discuss any possible issues with other editors. Please, refrain from attempting to engage me in another discussion. 'Thanks (nota bene: my practical answer to your doubts is included in the first part of this reply).--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 12:01, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: I misread: yes, it's true, they don't have the attribution; it should be added. And you are welcome to help!--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 13:11, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Medulin loan office moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Medulin loan office, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hatchens (talk) 03:22, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hatchens, thanks for helping with the article I created, "Medulin loan office"! Honestly, I felt it did meet the standards; otherwise I wouldn't have published it... I do believe it deserves a stub tag, though. The article had three or four sources when I published it first, all verifiable, which, imo, are quite enough for its length. Still, I added two more sources, also verifiable.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 09:45, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Wiki.Jaap.07, just work it out a bit more with respect to sources/references and then submit it for a review. - Hatchens (talk) 12:00, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I did; hope you can have a look at it. It's ok now, imo, only needs a stub tag and some editor willing to expand the article in the future (perhaps even myself when I'm finished with my other projects).--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 12:08, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Whpq; have you had a chance to read the rationale? Volleyball players are both retired, getting a picture of them would be hard and possibly harassing (I agree it's not fair, but women's volleyball is not exactly as popular as the NFL or soccer, depending on where you live; former female volleyball players will hardly go to press conferences or asked to sign a cap in the street after retirement(at least after that)). Also, it would be nice to show a picture from when the subject(s) were still playing, since the articles are about two volleyball players after all.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 07:24, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I did read your rationale, but disagree that WP:NFCC#1 is met. You can dispute it as noted in the deletion template. -- Whpq (talk) 12:49, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Whpq it could be created? Yes, perhaps by harassing the retired volleyball player(s). Also, the article focuses on them as players, so a picture from those days would be the ideal. With such a small size as that in which I uploaded Siscovich's file there shouldn't be any problems.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 13:31, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Miroslav Bertoša.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Miroslav Bertoša.jpg.

Please don’t remove the template from the file’s page again. If you feel the file’s non-free use does comply with WP:NFCC, follow the instructions given above or given in the template and dispute the speedy deletion nomination. — Marchjuly (talk) 14:19, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I dispute the use of the template per se, and I'm under the belief you are following my actions on Wikipedia.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 14:24, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not following your actions; you’ve posted on some user talk pages that I am watching because I do a lot of assessing of non-free content use. I am the one who commented on this file at User talk:JJMC89#Bertos and explained why it was being removed by JJMC89’s bot from that particular list article. In my post, I never said that the file’s non-free use in the biography article was OK. I was only focusing on the list article at the time and why the bot had removed the file. If I had noticed that the subject of the photo was still living, I would tagged the file with {{rfu}} at that time and explained in my post why such photos aren’t generally allowed per WP:NFCC#1 and WP:F7. Wikipedia’s non-free content use policy pretty much never allows non-free photos of still living persons to be used, except in certain specific cases like some of the things mentioned here. So, if you feel this is an exception to this policy, you can explain why on the file’s talk page. — Marchjuly (talk) 14:45, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay User talk:Marchjuly, now I see, sorry about my lashing out at you for nothing. As for the image; well, there are a couple things that jibe with that list, such as the unknown origin, and perhaps point 1. But the thing is, if you didn't notice, the picture was uploaded on wiki.hr way back. So isn't publishing it in small size plus the link to wiki.hr enough? Anyway, I'll trust your decision. Thanks.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 14:53, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

creating machine translations[edit]

You have created a number of machine translations on several projects - please stop doing so otherwise you may wind up blocked and globally locked. CUPIDICAE💕 22:14, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Praxidicae. You just threatened me. Your threats and accusations are meaningless to me, in that I didn't break any rules, and if you don't like my translations, you are welcome to help and improve them.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 22:22, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking about other projects in an attempt to make sure you read my message. It wasn't a threat - machine translations damage projects. Or are you really telling me that you speak Italian, Gaelic, Spanish, Bokmål, Portuguese, Catalan, Danish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Azerbaijani, French, Swahili, Czech, Estonian, Armenian, Romanian, Turkish, Finnish and about a dozen others? If I am incorrect and these are not machine translations, please feel free to correct me. CUPIDICAE💕 22:43, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I reiterate, I did not break any rules. Content is well sourced; copyright is never broken, and translations are allowed. I'm not sure I understand the project-thing, but I'm sure that event then I didn't break any written rules. I have a clean conscience and I do believe that my work is an improvement, a plus for Wikipedia (and its projects). Then, are you telling me that you are fluent (or so good as to understand when something is written badly or sufficiently well) in Italian, Gaelic, Spanish, Bokmål, Portuguese, Catalan, Danish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Azerbaijani, French, Swahili, Czech, Estonian, Armenian, Romanian, Turkish, Finnish and about a dozen others? Again, if you are, you are welcome to correct my mistakes. Even if my translations aren't good, though, it is still your opinion that they damage projects, isn't it? It is my opinion they don't, since work done, time spent is never for nothing. In fact, a start on an article is a help to other editors that will spur them into improving the article shortly. Of course if everybody (especially if they don't know what they're doing, which isn't the case with me) starts doing that with all kinds of articles it might become a mess, but giving editors an incentive to improve really deserving articles on important and neglected topics is fair.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 23:01, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please read this as to why machine translations are bad. And please refrain from doing more en-masse. Users who do mass machine translations cross-wiki are routinely global locked. This was just to give you a heads up and to ask you to cease doing so. You'll also note several were deleted from various projects for being bad translations. If that continues, the only next logical step will be blocks on those projects. The only reason I am reaching out to you here is because its your most active talk page. Also, many projects do not allow machine translations, have you verified on each of those that they do? Have you attributed the translations? If you really want to improve articles, why not do so in languages you speak where they will actually benefit from the improvement instead of adding fly-by machine translations that make no sense to their native language readers? CUPIDICAE💕 23:12, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Again, you are making lots of assumptions, such as which languages I speak. Attribution is not needed, since I am the author. If they are deleted, it will be a mistake, possibly determined by a biased pov/opinion and lack of good faith. I will not create other cross-wiki articles, but if those created in good faith and with so much effort by yours truly are deleted, I'll re-write them as best as I can. Once has already been deleted, I rewrote it and it was accepted. You keep talking about what is good and what is bad in your opinion, not of broken rules. You ask me to verify what projects allow "machine translation" (a term that I don't even really understand tbh) before translating an article? I hate to be sarcastic, but what else do you want me to do? That is preposterous, and you know it.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 23:30, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: As for the actually help the readers-thing: like I said, I believe most or all my translations are acceptable, but even if some of them aren't perfect, that is an incentive for editors.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 23:36, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am allowed to make reasonable assumptions that someone does not speak 20+ languages. Please stop accusing people of bad faith or bias because you fail to understand Wikipedia norms. Further, the onus is on you, the creator to verify you're not violating policies on other projects before editing - so yes, you should know before hand, as you would if you were a speaker of those languages, like Swahili, for example. Further, another warning, stop uploading non-free files that violate English Wikipedia's policy. CUPIDICAE💕 23:38, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you wanted to understand what I meant in the last sentence of my previous reply you do, if don't you don't. By bringing up the wholly unrelated matter of the free-pics (in which you were never involved), you confirmed to me that you have either followed my actions or you enjoy minding my business; is your "warning"another threat (if that is the case) or are you just trying to discredit me here on my talk talk page? Here I stand with a clean conscience; I didn't break any rules, in the matter here at hand, and if you don't like the subject(s) of my work, the language in which I write, and the number of translations, there's nothing I can do about it. If you don't like the quality of the translations (in that case, kudos to you for your proficiency in languages) try and help us (Wikipedia). If you want to accuse me do it formally. Do you contest the pictures I uploaded? Let's discuss the matter there. Do you think I should be blocked for translating pages authored by myself, well-sourced, and complete, on a very important subject only once (that is on one occasion, on a stint)? Go and ask for me to be blocked, but a fair judge will never allow it. --Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 00:06, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Stop accusing people of contrib stalking you. You hit several spam filters on Meta which is why I looked at your contributions on another project and then on my watchlist saw your file pop-up on FFD, which led me to your uploads which are full of invalid non-free files. I suggest you stop attacking editors who bring concerns to you. I didn't say you should be blocked, I said you may be blocked if you continued but your combative, uncooperative and frankly rude behavior to anyone who dares touch your talk page leaves a lot to be desired and makes me think your attitude is incompatible with editing on English Wikipedia. CUPIDICAE💕 00:11, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And, yes, for the record, several of your last uploads (4 to be exact) wildly violate the non-free use policy and will be nominated for deletion. CUPIDICAE💕 00:13, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You are a single person making lots of important conclusions and assumptions. Now you just told me that I'm no good for English Wikipedia. If you saw me pop-up in your program, couldn't you start the conversation with that? If, like you said, you know I lash out, shouldn't you have even more necessarily done that? Then: have you ever asked me: hey, Jaap, are your translations poorly written? are they machine translations (still not sure what that means)? Are you the author? (well, you did ask me the last one); why did you translate so many times but only on this topic/subject, and not any other? Will you do it again? I get a little upset when I perceive people are labeling me as a vandal,a sock puppet or something, and I definitely get rude when people don't accept facts or make assumptions: you implied that, but why shouldn't I speak Italian or Danish? Tell me the truth, beside maybe Swahili, how many of those language you are so fluent in as to determine my translations are not okay? Why shouldn't I be a polyglot? Besides, any person who knows a few languages can make a sentence in an unknown language with some dictionaries at hand and somebody or something who corrects them; and most of my translations are two-lines long. Again, I didn't break any rules. I never lashed out when I perceived that someone was contacting me to really collaborate or correct me. Maybe you wanted to help me because you thought I might get blocked by someone else, due to my appearance in the program/bot thing. But that presence is due to hyperactivity on my part, I guess, not because the translations are necessarily bad; unsourced or not authored by myself.--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 00:35, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Considering you're more than aware of global policy given your global ban, I didn't think it needed to be restated for you. CUPIDICAE💕 00:40, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Matija Živčič moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Matija Živčič, is not suitable as written to remain published.
