What is the best way to add an additional citation to a book already cited? Also, is there a format for adding a citation to an existing Wikipedia page?

Gives me something to do on Boxing Day!  :-)

See Wikipedia:Citing sources -AMK152 18:21, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{helpme} Yes, thanks, read that already. Can't find the answer which is why I'm asking here. Or i just cite things twice, which looks clumsy. Wikidwitch 18:27, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This could be a tricky question, since there are various citation methods used in Wikipedia. An example of what you want to do would be handy, but maybe WP:FOOT#Citing_a_footnote_more_than_once answers your question. Use {helpme} again if you get stuck.--Commander Keane 00:53, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I think this is what I'm after! I'll shout if I get stuck again. Wikidwitch 01:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, we are trying to create a unified place template for all UK locations, and attempting to incorporate the {{Location map Greater Manchester}} template into the code as we have already done with {{Location map United Kingdom}} and {{Location map Greater London}}. However, our tests are producing somewhat sporadic results, with the dots appearing far to the left of their intended location. See User:Djr_xi/Stretford or User:MRSC/Infobox UK place/Oldham for examples. I don't suppose you would be able to figure out what's going wrong? Regards, DJR (T) 23:22, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I think I've fixed it myself. It appears your latitude/longitudinal references were a little bit out. DJR (T) 23:54, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi glad you got it sorted. Sorry my coords were a bit out! :o) Wikidwitch 01:12, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Croxley rail link[edit]

Thanks for the diagram showing how the Croxley rail link fits in to the Metropolitan line & other lines around Watford. It's really useful for an at-a-glance guide. D-Notice (talk) 21:28, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Well I was reading about it and it seemed like it needed something visual. I couldn't really imagine it properly until I drew it. :-) Wikidwitch (talk) 21:44, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The image is really useful for the page and it makes it much clearer for anyone coming across the page! Thankyou! George5210 (talk) 19:21, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, would you mind terribly if I were to make an SVG version of this image and make the image a bit smoother? I don't have the New Johnston font, but Gill Sans seems to work nicely. Regards, NcSchu(Talk) 19:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you like - I have the Johnston Underground font if you want it. I created the image in Photoshop but have no way of exporting vector data to SVG.
If you could send me the text file that'd be most excellent. My email is ncschu [at] gmail [dot] com. Regards, NcSchu(Talk) 23:25, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Metropolitan Nav Box[edit]

Hi. That's a good idea, having one for individual lines. A quick point, would you mind if I separated the closed stations (such as Lord's) and the unserved stations (such as Aylesbury)? Thanks. Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 23:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, that's something I hadn't thought of really. Give it a go, see how it looks! As long as it's clear it seems like a sensible idea. Wikidwitch (talk) 23:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I've left Quainton Road as closed as it hasn't got a regular service (Bank Holidays only). BTW, do you intend to create one of these for every tube line, or just the Met? Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 23:28, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Yes, one for every tube line would be the aim... assuming I ever get around to it! Feel free to do some yourself if you feel motivated! Wikidwitch (talk) 00:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You've chosen the most complicated to start with! The Victoria Line will be easiest I think, it was built in one go, has had one stock and only has about a dozen stations! Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 00:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You've got a point there! I like a challenge. Maybe I'll do one for the Waterlook & City. :-) If I get onto it I'll look at doing some more but if you want to put any together, drop me a line so we don't duplicate effort. BTW I'm also looking at a collapsible container to manage multiple boxes, in instances where large stations would end up having a stack of boxes.Wikidwitch (talk) 16:44, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot about the W&C, with only two stations- can I have it?! Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 16:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Go for it!!  :-)) Wikidwitch (talk) 16:52, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's here. It looks so empty- what can I add to it? Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 17:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC) Hmmmm I see what you mean! I slimmed down the design a bit - there's so little to put in it, it doesn't need to be too intricate. Quite the opposite of the Met!Wikidwitch (talk) 18:09, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS: This was a bit easier! Template:Circle line navbox Wikidwitch (talk) 18:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see you're doing Baker Street. Shall I do the Bakerloo line? You have done the Met, Circle and Jubilee. What about H&C? Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 19:20, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I've knocked off Baker Street, Circle, Jubilee and Metropolitan; you've done Waterloo and City. Yes, please go ahead and do Bakerloo and H&C. I suspect it requires some more historical knowledge so you might be able to run this up quickly. Have fun! Wikidwitch (talk) 19:29, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Check out Template:Bakerloo line navbox. I might get round to doing the H&C. BTW, are you from London? Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 20:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey wikidwitch, where are you! I've put all the underground nav boxes together here as a sort of gallery. I see you're doing the northern line on your sandbox- good luck with that! Ollie Fury Contribs 23:39, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Ollie, sorry I've been busy and offline for a while. Glad you're still working away - looking good! :-) How are you? Wikidwitch (talk) 20:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine. Thanks for asking. What about you? Where abouts do you live- do you use the tube daily? I'm from Bucks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 20:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kilburn, NW London. Use the tube quite a lot though not every day.Wikidwitch (talk) 20:40, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm near Amersham, end of the Met! These lines still need a navbox:
  • Central
  • Distict
  • Piccadilly
  • Northern
  • Victoria

We could also do the DLR and Tramlink. I think you've almost finished the northern. If you want to do one, just say. I personally would prefer to do the deep-level tubes. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 20:49, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Northern's done! See Template:Northern line navbox. Don't mind tackling district at some point, time permitting. Wikidwitch (talk) 20:53, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've got 50 stations to add that to! And shouldn't you be going to bed! (Sorry if you're any older than 18! Most of the wikipedians I interact with seem to be about 17.) Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 00:02, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Way older! But yes it I should, you're right.... 00:04, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:04, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS - Kilburn huh? Know it pretty well - I was born not far away in Barnet, though I've been on the other side of the planet for decades... Grutness...wha? 01:08, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Wikidwitch - I've moved the template to {{GreaterManchester-stub}} and started to hunt for things to populate the category. See my comments at WP:SFD. Grutness...wha? 06:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RJD Diagrams[edit]

These diagrams are a very worthwhile addition to the Wikipedia 'armoury'. They add clarity to purely verbal material about railway lines, stations, junctions etc. I've used some of your uploadings in several articles. Thank you for your great contribution to improving the quality of railway articles about Manchester and elsewhere! RuthAS (talk) 22:34, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - thank you, glad to know they've been of use. I didn't actually create them myself but dug them out of retirement in Commmons as they are very relevant! Wikidwitch (talk) 17:38, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alexandra Palace[edit]

I've undid this edit of yours; Alexandra Palace station is on the Great Northern mainline and has never been a part of the London Underground, nor has it ever been proposed. You may be confusing it with the "Northern Heights" plan to link Alexandra Palace (the building, not the station) to the Northern Line, but that would have run to the station in the palace itself and approached the Palace from the western side, and wouldn't have come as far east as the current station. – iridescent 12:51, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I must have mis-read it. Wikidwitch (talk) 21:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Composers categories[edit]

Hi. I see you have been creating some new 'triple attribute' categories, such as 'Welsh Renaissance composers' etc. In the past the Composers project (like other classical music projects) have not been in favour of this. It's been discussed again here. I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind having a go at deleting them? If this is difficult for you, I'd be happy to help. Best regards. --Kleinzach 00:29, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - I understand discussion about the the Welsh one being underpopulated, but I'm not sure I follow the conclusions of the discussion. Do you mean you want me to delete Category:Italian Renaissance composers, Category:English Renaissance composers? Wikidwitch (talk) 19:10, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Did you see the followup? We still have the problem of Category:Baroque composers by country. Maybe you have a good method of removing these cats? I have done some by hand but it takes a long time. --Kleinzach 23:13, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes sorry I didn't reply. I'll take a look at it this week. Sounds like you should get AutoWikiBrowser - it's really useful for category management and saves a lot of time. Wikidwitch (talk) 23:16, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on a Mac so I can't use AWB. Doing the work by hand is awfully slow, hence my request. --Kleinzach 00:00, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see. What a pain. I'll see what I can do this week. 22:08, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

rail-interchange:heritage[edit]

Hello Wikidwitch, I just expanded the 'her' in the Template:rail-interchange from the abbreviated 'her' to 'heritage'; do you know if it's been used anywhere that needs fixing up (I should have changed for the transclusion/what links here before expanding it). —Sladen (talk) 15:21, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

only likely to have been used once (here) as I created the additional parameter for this template. Hope it's working - it seemed OK when I tested it.Thanks for letting me know. Wikidwitch (talk) 15:34, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alderley Edge[edit]

Thanks for cleaning it up. --Flashflash; 10:25, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK! It's a lovely spot and deserves a good article - there was a lot of decent information in there but it was a bit hard to read. I haven't taken any details out but hopefully it is a bit easier to understand now. Sorry I can't help with the references. Wikidwitch (talk) 11:20, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Museums and art galleries in Manchester[edit]

I just removed the gallery that you added to the Manchester article, as galleries are generally discouraged and we need to be careful to keep this GM project flagship up to FA standard. On which subject I notice that no citations have been provided for this new section. Is that something you're able to take care of? --Malleus Fatuorum 13:43, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pity, I tend to favour them for something of visual importance, such as sections covering arts or architecture, as they support descriptions visually. Culture of Manchester may be a more relevant space for this, as it's a shorter article and would benefit more from this level of detail. Thanks for letting me know. Great work. Auchenharvie's repair account surfaced in the market a couple of years ago and was bought by the Folger. Of course, they will send scans on request for modest fee, but it has not been published. The first two entries read a bit like this;

Thanks - yes I spotted that but the inclusion of a nice map swung my choice in favour of the building one for now. Also I don't know enough about windmills to fill in the rather specialist detail on the windmill infobox...! Any chance it could be adapted to include maps? It would really make it more useful I think. Wikidwitch (talk) 00:22, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Baker Street navbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. — lfdder 18:18, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Picc-vic line map.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Picc-vic line map.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
