RGSW

Hi, thanks for your message. I've copy-edited and commented on the lead. I think that the prose has quite a way to go before being "compelling, even brilliant", as required of FAs. Can you find someone who's relatively distant from the topic to collaborate with you? I have a secret list of good copy-editors on WP; haven't you? Tony 13:23, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, my list is a secret one, because I don't want to get a reputation for "passing the buck" onto other people. AndyZ may be willing to help, though. Why not have a look at the best articles on schools: their history page should reveal who's doing good edits on them; flatter them, and they may be willing to assist you. In return, you could provide fresh eyes for their article.
Before 1291: um ... 900? 1066? I can't imagine that this is a standard way of expressing uncertainty; can't you pin it down to a decade or half-century? That would give us a better idea.
Please provide the metric equivalent for the 96% of the world that uses metrics. (perhaps "one and a half kilometres"?).
There's no reference in the lead for the rumour, and it's hard to know just what the lead is getting at. I'd have thought that this kind of detail should be covered somewhere in the body of the article, where the necessary details can be provided on the spot; the lead should give a bird's-eye view of the article.

Thank you for your support!

Greetings, Wisden17. Just a quick note to thank you for your support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with a final tally of (67/0/0)! Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have suggestions or requests - either of an admin nature or otherwise! :)

It's been a while

I'm at summer school, researching suicide for a class, and where do I turn but wikipedia? And who do I stop to send my love to but you? So, again thanks for formatting my talk page:

Me? Having fun? The class is called American Problems, and it details the legal system--we had a group project, with each group taking a different crime. We chose suicide. Yes, I am enjoying the class, but summer school is hell, as is the 100 degree heat. And you? If it's cooler by you, I'm taking a week off work to visit. And I do like the userpage--I wish I were skilled enough to do more than a userbox chain. Any advice you have on that's loved.

mediator nomination

I noticed your comment about my nominationa as mediator. Anyway, just letting you know that my blocks were not justified and the 2nd block was a clarification by the blocking admin who admit the first block was a mistake. For more info, see my block log. Thanks--Bonafide.hustla 01:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Opus Dei

Hi WD. The members of the mediation started out pretty good, but we've definitely lost the virtue of brevity in our discussions--- myself as much as anyone. :) Anyway, given that, I just wanted to point you to a part of the discussion that Thomas has called the "crux of the matter"-- and I agree with him that it's certainly our biggest stumbling block, so I labelled it so it'd be easier for you to to find. Look forward to your input :) --Alecmconroy 06:45, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Wisden17, thanks for signing up for the Esperanza User Page Contest. The judges have received the fifteen entries, and are ready to start judging. The judges will take a week to complete the judging process, and they will contact all the participants when the judging is done.

Please drop by the contest page for contest updates and questions. Take care, and good luck! May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 10:08, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Libya

Hi,

I've recently added Libya to the list of featured article candidates. Overall the candidature is going well with many of the objections now sorted out. The final concrete objection is with the article's prose. I have been the main contributor to the article and have been looking at it for the previous 9 - 10 months. My eyes no longer see it freshly, so I am not a suitable copy-editor!

To meet the final demand of copy editing, I have been advised to ask different people to edit parts of the article.

I would really love to get this article featured as you can probably see from the page's history! I've worked very hard on it and I see this as possibly being the final hurdle.

You can see the prose objections, mostly raised by Sandy, on the candidature page. If you have the time, please choose a section (Politics, Religion, Culture etc.) and copyedit, perfect, ace it! I would be very grateful with any help I can get.

Thanks a lot,

--Jaw101ie 16:45, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA thanks

Hello Wisden17/Archive 5, and thank you for your weak oppose at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. In regards to your comment, I agree that it was somewhat inappropriate and an odd comment for me to make... But I do feel that one comment from 3 1/2 months ago should generally be forgiven. Thank you for your input though, it has made me think harder of how outsiders will view my actions. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grandmasterka 07:20, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Research Survey Request

Hello, I am a member of a research group at Palo Alto Research Center (formerly known as Xerox PARC) studying how conflicts occur and resolve on Wikipedia. Due to your experience in conflict resolution on Wikipedia (e.g., as a member of the Mediation Cabal) we’re extremely interested in your insights on this topic. We have a survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=400792384029 which we are inviting a few selected Wikipedians to participate in, and we would be extremely appreciative if you would take the time to complete it. As a token of our gratitude, we would like to present you with a PARC research star upon completion. Thank you for your time.

I noticed in your oppose you were concerned that the candidate might not be sufficiently familiar with wiki's policies and guidelines. In fairness to him, I would like to point to "Optional question from Stephen B Streater" which specifically addresses this.[1] Tyrenius 01:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me. I understand your position and keep up the good work on MedCom (we certainly need it)! Tyrenius 19:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you so much for voting in my recent RFA. It passed on the relatively narrow vote of 38/8/8. It was also one of the least-participated-in RFA nominations in several months, so pat yourself on the back, and join the party on your left, but first, take your cookie!

my RfA

Thanks for your opinions in my RfA. Ultimately, the request did not pass, with a vote of (43/16/7). But your honest opinion was appreciated and I'll just keep right on doing what I do. Maybe I'll see ya around -- I'll be here!
Cheers! - CheNuevara 17:44, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Opus Dei, potential compromise first step

As always thanks for helping out. I take my metaphorical hat off to anyone who jumps into the ring for these sorts of diisputes. And I imagine ours is probably quite civil as far as online disputes go.

Anyway, in the middle of the night last night, I woke up, and had a flash of insight about a potential compromise first step. It would allow me to feel comfortable that the critics are getting a fair chance to make their case, but would still allow us reduce the total amount of space devoted to criticism in the article. I really really hope Thomas et. al. like the idea, it could be a huge step towards reaching consensus. I think they will. :)

Maybe you could read it over and see if you think it'd be a step in the right direction. --Alecmconroy 23:13, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Thankyou for your participation in my RfA. Due to an almost even spread of votes between Oppose and Support (Final (16/13/6)) I have decided to withdraw for now and re-apply in a couple of months as suggested. I thank everyone for their kind support of my editorial skills; it meant a lot to me to get such strong recommendations from my fellow editors. If you ever have any hints as to how I can improve further, I would love to hear from you. ViridaeTalk 15:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Cut down to 70 kb, and improvement of response section; NPOV tag to be removed

Hi Wisden! Thanks again for your impartial resolution at the Opus Dei page. It's been wonderful working with you. :)

I agree with the closure of mediation. And I have done most of the work I promised, as you can see at talk page. I am proposing that we remove the NPOV tag. Thanks again. Thomas 03:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Advocacy request

Heyo, Steve Caruso here. There is a Request for assistance by Lee_Bailey (talk) on Stephen Colbert, The Colbert Report and related (this one looks like it's going to be very interesting). Would you be willing to take their case? If you will, please leave a note and sign under the entry on WP:AMARQ and change "(pending)" in the heading to "(open)." When you're finished with the case, set it to "(closed)". If you're not able to take the case, please leave me a message on my talk page so I can continue searching for a willing Advocate. Many thanks! Furthermore, many more thanks for responding to the AMA Alert! :-) אמר Steve Caruso (desk/AMA) 15:17, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

My RfA and your vote

Hi Wisden,
Thanks for participating in my RFA! Ultimately, no consensus was reached, but I still appreciate the fact that you showed up to add in your two cents. You can feel free to talk to me about it or add some advice on my improvement page.

Sincerely, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me)

Warning

You left me a message that said:

"This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikimedia. Wisden17 17:24, 11 March 2006 (UTC)"

I do not know what I've done. If something seemed like vandalism, it's because I'm unfamiliar with Wikipedia rules. Please explain what I've done wrong and I will not do it again. Thank you.

I can't find the warning you are referring to, and the reason could well be that you are on an AOL IP address, meaning that your IP address changes virtually with every page you load, meaning that the IP address you posted the above comment with could be different to the one where the arning is. It could well be then that it wasn't you who committed any vandalism, but somebody else on that IP address. The best advice in your situation is to register an account, as that way you can keep track of your contribtuions and messages specifically for you. --Wisden17 07:41, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Turd, the Bartender

I am trying to create a bio on Renzetti (aka Turd, the Bartender) as I am for a majority of the people who work with Erich "Mancow" Muller on Mancow's Morning Madhouse, in part of frequent edits and vandalizations on the show wikipedia page, but also, I feel the subjects should have some kind of background information on them for the benefit of its readers.

Other than that, I don't understand what your probelm is. I am a new contributor (not to Wikipedia) to Wikimedia and it was through that means in which I loaded the images. Is it the images you are having trouble with, or the bio itself. Please let me know how we can resolve to everyone's benefit.
