Do not want

We do not want hasty speedy tags even if you release 'em under GFDL or public domain. First effort should be put into improving articles, not deleting them. Did you even check the interwiki link in Arschbombe? PirateSmackKArrrr! 12:46, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

As I do not speak German, it would not do me any good to check. And when I tagged the article it was purely no content. As for deleting articles, I don't delete them, silly, I just tag em. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 12:50, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Also, Wikipedia is NOT a reference...German or English. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 12:52, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
It had enough content to clarify the subject of the article all right. I don't read German either, but if you look at the dewiki article you will see its a well written article, that's an indication that it is a legit article about a diving technique.
And no I never said you were deleting articles. You can't delete articles (rightly so :p); but by tagging a legit article deletion is what you are trying to achieve and biting a new contributor at the same time. PirateSmackKArrrr! 12:59, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
That was NOT a bite, an example of a bite, in this instance, would have been tagging it as vandalism, because Arschbombe sounds like a bad fart joke. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 13:04, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Isn't this just a cannonball? Strangely there's no article about it under that (disambiguated) name, as there probably should be. --NE2 14:21, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Beats me...But swimming and related activities have never been my strong point. I swim like a brick..1 big splash, and sink directly to the bottom. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 14:37, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, see you doing a great deal of new page patrolling. Could you possibly hit the "[Mark this page as patrolled]" button on the bottom right hand corner of your screen after you patrol a page? Also, check your TW settings, because it should automatically mark pages as patrolled when you mark them for deletion, but it's not. Thanks. 黒い白い (KuroiShiroi) 22:27, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I've been told this before (it should show 3 or 4 times in the archives of this page), but due to the page I patrol from [1], neither the button nor the Twinkle setting seems to be effective in this issue. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 22:31, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh, makes sense. Thought I'd pop you a note anyway. Sorry to bother you. 黒い白い (KuroiShiroi) 22:34, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

the term is being used by more and more people. Please help by not requesting speedy deletion. New words become part of our language everyday. Thank you for your help.

Request denied, due to lack of notability of your alleged content, and your attitude, as displayed by your first comment here Wuhwuzdat (talk) 21:39, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

My attitude was as such because you continually deleted the article even after I gave more source material. This is my first attempt to add an article and believed there was more open communication in wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beach98 (talkcontribs) 21:47, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

You have your facts wrong. I have never deleted a single article on Wikipedia. I do not have either the power or authority to do so. I simply nominated your work as being within the speedy deletion criteria, as developed by the Wikipedia community. Any deletions would have been done by an admin, after reviewing the article. Proposed deletion of Water boat

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Water boat, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Potentially doesn't meet critieria for notability.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. I dream of horses (talk) 13:11, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I seem to remember tagging an article with a similar name, but I'm 200% sure I didn't create this article. 06:21, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
All right. I'll cross it out. --I dream of horses (talk) 14:36, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
You did indeed tag it as A7, then things got complicated with four different editors doing a hangon, a stubbing and speedy decline, a prod and eventually a second A7 tag which lead to it being speedied. ϢereSpielChequers 15:00, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

You caught me just in time.

I just unblocked the account not three minutes ago under WP:AGF since the checkuser was inconclusive. I promised the user I'd unblock him if the CU came back negative. Since it was inconclusive, I held up my end of the bargain. Thanks for letting me know. I am stealing your text!

I like the disclaimer text you have at the beginning of your talk page, and I am copying part of it for my own talk page. I can only imagine it's a matter of time before the short-tempered anonymous Russian bothers me again as well, so I want to be ready. I have a recommendation for a line to add to the text on your page: "Posts must be coherent and civil." Just a thought. Hellbus (talk) 22:30, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Unclear about deletion...

You have removed my external link under Kiosk Software, but I am not too clear why. If you look at the page, all of the existing external links (except for the KDE version and a PDF file) lead to commercial products and services. Perhaps you explain how I might correctly list my software, or you tell me why the other software is allowed to remain listed while mine was removed? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CMSoftware (talkcontribs) 17:18, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Please see WP:COI, and realize that you just admitted your Conflict of Interest. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 18:22, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate your bringing this to my attention, but the COI does not really explain how those other commercial links are allowed to exist on that page. Are those others who are presenting links to their commercial software not also in a conflict of interest? Those products will certainly benefit if people follow those links to their commercial sites and buy those commercial products.

Incidentally, I would have thought that a true conflict of interest would appear in an article about one's self or company, and not as a simple external link that is both on-topic, and which is listed among other links of the identicle category.

I appreciate your time, and explanations. I am new to this. Thank you! CMSoftware (talk) 21:22, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

You are assuming that the other links were added by the authors/vendors of the software. if this IS what occurred, this would be a COI situation. However, it is entirely possible that these links were added by a 3rd party, which would NOT be a COI. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 21:31, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I make no assumptions about who might have posted the links, nor do I care who did. I make the point that many of the links listed are 100% commercial and lead to commerical products and services. My link being commercial is the reason you gave for deleting it in the first place. Before you chose to delete my link, it was just as possible that I was a "third-party" making an observation about a website. I am not sure why you would delete my link without finding out, first.

Though I believe that my link was correctly placed, was on topic, and has just as much right to be listed among all the other links on that page, I will no longer pursue this matter.

Thank you for your time, and the education about the Wikipedia community.

CMSoftware (talk) 23:25, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I failed to mention earlier, your username played a large part in my choice to revert your spam link addition. Seeing as the link was for "Clepsydra-Multiworks.com", and your username is CMSoftware, your COI was blatantly obvious from the beginning. As for your link being "commercial", I do not believe that I have used that word, or any synonym of that word, in any sense or context in the course of our discussion, or the reversion of your link. Furthermore, to reference your previous statement above, " Are those others who are presenting links to 'their commercial software not also in a conflict of interest? ", it is also obvious that, despite your statement to the contrary above, you are assuming the other links WERE placed by COI editors. Your assumption appears to go against one of the founding principles of Wikipedia, Assume Good Faith. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 00:45, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

You wrote in your original contact with me that, "Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion." As an explanation for the reversion of my link, you did not mention COI. Instead, you stated that you were removing a spam link. Though a paragraph now appears on my talk page concering COI from you, it was not until I contacted you on this page that you ever mentioned COI. So I had reasoned that if my placed link was "spam" (in your eyes, or course), then surely all the others must be, too; regardless of who posted them or whether COI was involved when they made their post. Anything else would be hypocritical, I reasoned. If you had mentioned COI in the first place, I don't think I would have needed to write you for clarity. Then we both could "assumed in good faith" that the rest of the posted external links there were from third parties, and I would have clearly understood your intentions.

I would think that a spam link, by the way, would lead people to an unrelated site filled with unrelated advertisements or a parked domain, or something other than what was being presented in the article. All of the external links on that page (13 of them) lead to external sites concerning (in some way), kiosk software. I believe this is the way it should be when concerning a general article about kiosk software. Therefore, I am certain my link was on-topic and was not spam. You may label it COI if you wish, but it was certainly not spam.

I would like to ask you a question if I may:

If an unreleated party to the kiosk software were to have posted the very same link in the very same place, are you saying you would have left it alone?

Thank you for your time.

CMSoftware (talk) 16:07, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I have no further desire to continue this discussion, after having words put in my mouth,, and then being called a hypocrite, It is very clear to me that this spammer is unable to see things outside his own extremely narrow point of view, and is also unable to judge each individual edit and editor on their own merits, choosing instead to simply assume bad faith and COI across the board. Sockpuppetry Case

Could you please file a sockpuppetry case against User talk:Chickenmonkey123 and User talk:Chickenmonkey12 per WP:DUCK.--The Legendary Sky Attacker 06:58, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I shall just leave you with a note

I was not disputing your reasoning for requesting a speedy deletion, nor was I against it. I simply wished to understand why it was flagged. I was unsure if I had made errors in formatting or text, and would have appreciated your guidance as someone far more experienced than me. In this case I feel you have been botlike and unfriendly, and I will thus leave you with my regards. Thank You

Ihegba (talk) 18:49, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

No, there were no "errors in formatting or text" in your article, nor was it tagged for Speedy deletion. There are no Speedy Deletion criteria that applied to your articles subject, but due to your article having no assertion of Notability whatsoever, I nominated it for deletion.
As for my attitude being "botlike and unfriendly", I have the rules for this page posted CLEARLY above. My page, My rules. This page WILL run in chronological order, and I WILL NOT have to search through the entire contents of the page to find a new comment, left in some obscure location, by someone unwilling and/or unable to read, comprehend, and follow these rules. As stated above, "I reserve the right to delete any postings from people unwilling or unable to obey these simple requests.". Your previous attempts at posting here did not comply to these rules, and were deleted as such. Your most recent posting showed either a blatant disregard for these same rules, or a total lack of understanding of the word "BOTTOM", as in "New sections go at the bottom of this page." Wuhwuzdat (talk) 19:24, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
In both cases you make valid and reasonable points, and I apologise gravely for failing to notice them. Sorry. Ihegba (talk) 20:19, 30 May 2009 (UTC) PS Thank you for pointing out the notability issues and sorry for getting off on the wrong foot, have a good day.

Personal attacks

Hi Wuhwuzdat, I saw you recently attacked another editor in your edit summary on this page. Please comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. I except an experienced user like yourself to know this, so consider this a reminder. The best approach is not to revert the user's edits and call them a moron, instead explain in a civil manner, on their talk page how to use {{hangon}} tags. Thank you. - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:50, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

You are correct sir. It's been a BAD day here, for several reasons which don't need to be shared here. I should have simply deleted the posting unanswered, for violating rules 1, 3 and 5 posted clearly at the top of the page. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 20:57, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Empty cats

Despite the technical language of the template, I don't think you really need to use a {{hangon}} when a category previously marked as empty is no longer empty; you can just remove the deletion template. Thanks. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

True, but after having issued many {{uw-speedy1}} user warnings for speedy removals myself (I patrol edits by new users, mainly new articles by new users), I didn't think it fair for my edits to be held to a different standard, simply because it was a category, instead of an article. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 17:40, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

I noticed you requested this article for deletion as per CSD A7. The subject may be notable, this link and google hits do establish the notability to some extent. Article may need to be wikified. But its not an A7 case at all. Hitro 17:52, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Per the speedy notice; "This page may meet Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a real person that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject.", and the article does not indicate any notability whatsoever. Being a monk, in itself, is about as notable as simply being a carpenter. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 17:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Article clearly claims that the subject had wide following throughout Thailand and That makes the subject more notable than any given Thai carpenter. The references proves the notability and mass following. I agree, This article is not wikified, but Its not a CSD A7. Hitro 18:09, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

You rang? It's great to find another railfan on Wikipedia already! I checked your userpage, and I found that you're interested in many of the the same trains I am! And you created the "Giant Locomotives of the Union Pacific Railroad" navigation template? That's one of my favorites! Also: I've only been a user for *about* 3 days, so don't sue me if I make a mistake. Trainmastercrc (talk) 18:16, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Sue you? Not a chance! That UP template was a fun one, I have to wonder how many have noticed the color scheme. I've been here just over 2 years, and trust me, you NEVER stop learning how to do things here. You may wish to consider joining the Trains WikiProject. I've been a railfan since the late 70's, and for the last 23 years have volunteered at this place, mainly working on Diesels. We keep needing to build more track for all our new "toys", most recently a C&NW SD40-2 (still enroute, due to arrive next week.). As for userpages (I read yours as well), they edit just like articles, but with fewer rules. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 18:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
I didn't mean literally taking legal action. I was just using it as a term for "Biting the newcomer", as the guidelines put it. I've actually been absorbed in wikipedia for years, making occasional edits, but I've only been a member for *about* 3 days now. Also - thanks for the reminder. I was planning on joining the Trains WikiProject. Just out of curiosity, what is your favorite railroad? Mine happens to be the PRR, followed by the Reading, the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, CSX, the Crab Orchard & Egyptian Railroad, the Milwaukee Road, BNSF - Oh, the list goes on...
C&NW, Milwaukee Road, PRR, NYC, WC, CNS&M, CA&E, CSS&SB...mostly Chicago area stuff. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 22:02, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey, there! Thanks for the note! I'm working with the restoration team on SP 9010, and we really appreciate anyone who helped with the Wiki listing for our locomotive! I'm back, after an unsceduled Wikibreak. I came up with a few questions. First, do you have or run model trains? I have HO and N gauges, mostly. Secondly, have you heard of Traingifs? I am a big fan of them, but I usually don't make my own. Trainmastercrc (talk) 20:29, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. Just letting you know that I changed the speedy you added at My Brother Tom, from CSD A1 to CSD G12 (it's a copyvio). But A1 didn't apply in this case, as the article wasn't that short (better to only use A1 on one liners). Anyway, just letting you know. Thanks for your continued work in NPP - Kingpin13 (talk) 19:51, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Go back and read it again..it has no context, even if it does consist of a whole THREE sentences. But copyvio will do just as well. I don't bother to waste time and effort, searching for copyvios when there are other OBVIOUS speediable qualities to the article. Wuhwuzdat (talk) 19:59, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Tis gone. But there was enough context to identify the subject, which was a film. But I didn't mean to make that sound so much about that particular article rather than your misuse of A1 (see World Special Forces for example). - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:03, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Concerning warnings

Re: This [3] on my talk page. A quick shows that I have issued well over 800 warnngs. Please read WP:DTTR and don't bother me again. Thanks. Philip Trueman (talk) 12:47, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Regarding WP:DTTR, that is opinion, and essay, NOT Wikipedia policy. Your edit history shows revert, after revert, after revert, after revert, of OBVIOUS vandalism, with only an occasional warning. Recent examples include [4], [5], [6], and [7],(among MANY others) all blatant vandalism, without warning the vandal to stop. Vandal warnings are not just for the vandal, they also help inform others of the editors history. You have been told about this before. Regarding your somewhat belligerent attitude...comment withheld. WuhWuzDat 14:03, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
The relevant policy on vandalism, WP:VAND, says: " .. you may also warn the user .. ". Please note: 'may', not 'must'. I do not see that I am in violation of policy. If you think I am, please point out which one. If you think I am not, please apologise, and read WP:KETTLE. You are the aggressor here - it is your attitude that is belligerent. Philip Trueman (talk) 16:05, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Apologies are given, when and if deserved. Demands for apologies often go unanswered. This situation started with your response to a standard user warning. If you have a problem with the text or tone of these messages, please feel free to discuss it here. I will now drop the subject, as it seems that that you are not about to change your editing habits, and that this discussion is heading in a downhill direction that may eventually end up at an unpleasant destination. WuhWuzDat 16:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I am more than happy to see this go to WP:ANI. The fact that a warning template exists is not sufficient justification for using it. Policy violation is. Philip Trueman (talk) 16:27, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Please state which policy you believe I have violated. WP:KETTLE and WP:DTTR are essays, not policy.WuhWuzDat 16:30, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I have not, so far, suggested that you have violated any policy, only that your placing of that template was unjustified. I have also asked you not to bother me again about my editing style, when it is not in violation of any policy, and to read a couple of essays which I hope you will find profitable. If it helps you, I am happy to suggest that placing such a template on my talk page, and your aggressive attempts to justify such placing, were, in the light of my history of issuing vandalism warnings, un-CIVIL. Philip Trueman (talk) 17:54, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) I apologize for misinterpreting your statement as suggesting that I had violated a policy. I do feel that reading one of the essays you suggested for me, would be helpful for you as well. Removed speedy deletion tag: Moby Dick (band)

Hi Wuhwuzdat! I just wanted to inform you that I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on Moby Dick (band)- because: the article makes a credible claim of importance or significance. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. decltype (talk) 16:01, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Huh? What Claim? Oh well, thats what AfD is for. WuhWuzDat 16:05, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, that's just the default message of the script. I looked at the article of the singer, Ana Stanić. It claims that "[t]hey recorded three albums, which sold in over 300,000 copies in FR Yugoslavia". But yeah, feel free to AfD. Regards, decltype (talk) 16:11, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Removed speedy deletion tag: Is grilled corn good

Hi Wuhwuzdat! I just wanted to inform you that I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on Is grilled corn good- because: there is enough content to identify the subject, A1 only applies to very short pages, which this isn't. It is however an "attack" against grilled corn If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kingpin13 (talk) 00:15, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Length of the article is somewhat irrelevant, due to the fact that articles like this often "talk much, but say little". WuhWuzDat 00:23, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually, length of article is relevant; from CSD A1 "This applies only to very short articles". - Kingpin13 (talk) 00:25, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Article deletion tag: Gateway Pictures

Hi Wuhwuzdat. Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I believe the article I created is unfairly being tagged for deletion, and I would prefer we place it in stub status so other users can help contribute more information about this film production company. I think one wikieditor in particular is being very aggressive trying to delete this article. Here is the deletion thread. Please help out, and keep this article so we can find out more from other users. Aliveatoms (talk) 17:46, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

CSDH

Hi, regarding your inquiry over at User talk:Ale_jrb: The script allows the user to select whether she wants to send a notification to the tagger. I'll make a mental note that you do not want to receive those. It could perhaps still be useful if you want to take the article to AfD, though. Regards, decltype (talk) 02:20, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

I too can stop that, sorry if it seems like I'm buggering you, I didn't even realise that it was you on the one just above, until after I had already warned. However, something I just discovered recently was {{NOBOTS}}, while this is designed for bots, you could request that Ale jrb adds it to the script. Or you may be interested in it anyway. Saw your message ...

on Ale Jrb's talk page asking about opting out of CSDH messages. The admin usually has to click a box to send a message to the tagger notifying about declining or changing a reason on a speedy ... I think it's very likely that if you ask the admins not to let you know, they won't. Most admins would probably appreciate it if you watchlist the pages you tag, though, in case a different account removes the speedy tag, or in case anything else happens that you weren't expecting.

Thanks again for your tagging work, which is excellent. Btw, I use that script all the time, but I personally think the tagger notification messages are a little obnoxious, and I've rewritten the script. Of course, I won't be notifying you even with the softer messages, unless you want me to. (Watching) - Dank (push to talk) 18:40, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Why do you keep deleting my posts?

Everything I wrote on Peel Group is fact and can be backed up with reference to media sources here in Ireland.

Write it in a NPOV style, and include references from reliable sources in the article. Alleging that references exist is not the same as providing them. Blogs are NOT reliable sources. WuhWuzDat 18:56, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I am new to editing pages and not sure how to do links. I will link all the appropriate references and re-submit.

Hi, I just thought I'd drop you a line to say thanks for all your hard work in the spamming department. I may not get round to deleting all the articles, and blocking all the usernames myself but your efforts are truly appreciated. Keep it up! :) – B.hoteptalk• 15:14, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Could you please stop warning this editor for vandalism? He's the subject of the article and is trying to get it removed, so it's not necessarily vandalism. Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 16:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Again, he's not vandalizing, so I removed your AIV report. Thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:54, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Be careful what you revert... Prodego talk 16:45, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Based on your lack of response, and continuation (the AIV report) after we informed you of your error, I have revoked your rollback rights, and disabled twinkle on your account, until you do reply. Prodego talk 18:22, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
As you didn't seem to be asking a question, I didn't think you were looking for a response. You simply stated that I should be careful using the rollback tool (and the rollback function of Twinkle, I would assume). I avoided the use of these specific tools after your warning, except to revert blatant vandalism in 5 cases. However, I still felt that Mr Kannenberg's attempts to remove referenced, but slightly negative, information about himself was somewhat promotional, so I reported his edits, as such, to AIV, for an adminstrator to review. This was followed very shortly thereafter by Juliancolton informing me that he had removed my AIV report, and after this, I considered Mr Kannenberg to be someone else's problem, and while I believe I observed at least 1 further edit of his while I was patrolling, I simply ignored it. I had considered my involvement in this issue closed, and was off the wiki for a while, and found your message revoking my rollback, etc. when I returned. WuhWuzDat 21:17, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I can understand this situation. Wuhwuzdat may not have been aware of the ongoing AfD of Kannenberg's item – not everyone is everywhere at once – and was pretty much just responding to section/item blanking without sufficient edit summary. As I only congratulated Wwd on their sterling work in the AIV and spam department earlier on today, I would like to vouch for their normal good character and ask for their rollback rights to be restored. It was a simple misunderstanding of circumstance, that I am positive of. – B.hoteptalk• 21:30, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm sure it won't be long, Wwd. – B.hoteptalk• 22:10, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't believe in false advertising, even for short periods of time. It's easy enough to undo, when and if the time comes. WuhWuzDat 22:17, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

←Just to keep you in the loop, Wwd, I don't think Prodego is around and I've contacted JulianColton above to look at the situation – I don't want to seem too pushy, we're all in different time zones, I think (I know I'm ready for bed now) and I mean no disrespect to any party, believe me. I'm sure by the time I check my watchlist in, oh, about six and a half hours, it will be smiles all round! :) – B.hoteptalk• 23:03, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

  • I've reinstated your rollback and twinkle rights with Prodego's (off-wiki) consent. Please be a bit more careful in the future. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 01:54, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. WuhWuzDat 02:02, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Particularly when dealing with people removing information about themselves, you need to make sure to be careful. Don't just revert and warn them, engage them and see what they need. And take a look at WP:BLP. Prodego talk 02:06, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, Prodego. Thank you Julian. Wwd, see you in the normal places! :) – B.hoteptalk• 08:35, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

It looks like the most recent edit war has stopped with the blocking of the disruptive editor. However I wanted to get some feedback on content that was dropped during the last several rounds of edit wars. I really have no idea who dropped what and why, but I want to make sure I'm not stepping on anybody's toes before adding stuff back in. Also, whether anything that SQuentinQuale was trying to add is usable if referenced and rephrased in less inflammatory language. Your feedback is valuable. Discussions here:

Electric transmission

Hello. I maintain that the primary meaning of the term Electric transmission is Electric power transmission; so much, that the latter could even be given the former title (but that's a side issue). I can't find a mention of locomotives in first 50 Google hits.

From the same page (emphasis mine):

If only a primary topic and one other topic require disambiguation, then disambiguation links are sufficient, and a disambiguation page is unnecessary. However if there are two topics for a term but neither is considered the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is used.

IOW, we don't need a 2-item dab page; a hatnote at Electric power transmission will suffice. No such user (talk) 07:37, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Try Searching Diesel Electric. 90% + of the locomotives in use today have an "Electric transmission". WuhWuzDat 13:27, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't negate that "electric transmission" exists in locomotives. The point is, when you hear "electrical transmission", what is your first association (well, if you're not a railway engineer)? I think, and common usage seems to agree, that those are power lines. Since we're dealing with a two-way interpretation, a 2-item dab page is unnecessary, and I added a hatnote to Electric power transmission to explain the redirect. Reporting marks

There's no way the museum can have reporting mark IRYM, since it's not an operating freight railroad. I can't find anything in [8] for the museum. As for the CA&E and CNS&M, just because there was an abbreviation on the car doesn't mean that was a reporting mark; not all railroads had them until the 1970s or so. The 1958 Official Railway Equipment Register shows that the CA&E did not have a reporting mark (which would be marked with an asterisk), only a "uniform alphabetic code for railroad identification", whatever that was. [9] is an incomplete compilation of reporting marks from the ORERs. --NE2 19:27, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

See my ref in the museum article, the federal goverment( which regulates us, just like a freight railroad), recognizes us as IRYM. WuhWuzDat 19:30, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Nowhere do they say that it's a reporting mark. They're just using it as a convenient abbrevation. --NE2 19:31, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello Wuhwuzdat. In the dispute with NE2 over at Illinois Railway Museum, on the issue of reporting marks, he has made four reverts and you've made three. You and he are the only participants in this war. Since past practice might suggest that both of you could be blocked for edit warring, it would be helpful if you would add to the AN3 report a promise to stop reverting, and expressing your willingness to follow WP:Dispute resolution. EdJohnston (talk) 04:08, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually Sir, I believe if you check the diffs of my edits to the article in question you will find only 1 revert [10], and 2 readditions of the content in question, with added references to back it up [11] [12]. I was attempting to address his concerns, but found his responses....less than friendly. WuhWuzDat 04:22, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
OK: one initial revert, and then you restored the same change twice more. Please read WP:REVERT if you think this does not count as three reverts. More broadly, reverting may also refer to any action that reverses the actions of other editors. EdJohnston (talk) 04:27, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Per your link, yes, I have 3 reverts. I also have a splitting headache, and am very tired. Any further action, or lack therof, by me will have to wait until morning, when I can think clearer (I hope). WuhWuzDat 04:37, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Wuhwuzdat, please see the result of the 3RR case, which restricts both parties on this article. EdJohnston (talk) 14:15, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

An m-bell is a mechanical bell. It's an older type used on some locomotives. It is a bell looking like a real one, but it uses electromagnets that ring the bell. M-bells die out when a pest or fatigue in the bell. These bells are disappearing quickly in favor of e-bells (Digital Bells)

Deletion of CoSort Co. article

Hello! I'm new to Wikipedia and needing some guidance to get an encyclopedic article on CoSort to comply and stick. I've read the guidelines and tried to follow them in the first post, in fact taking a cue from a similar article on 'Syncsort.' There are several notable things about CoSort and some of the other products in the line, plenty of third-party references, noted users around the world, and concepts/companies linked to other Wikipedia articles. Can you take a look at what I originally posted and help me fix what's wrong? Many thanks in advance! Jtree09 (talk) 16:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

No, I Can't....It appears to have been deleted. WuhWuzDat 16:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks ... can I put it in a sandbox somewhere you can see? Jtree09 (talk) 16:37, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I Don't know, can you? WuhWuzDat 16:41, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jtree09 Please advise :) Jtree09 (talk) 17:01, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
It reeks of being Advertising, and shows no Notability. WuhWuzDat 17:06, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I took my cue from 'approved' articles on Syncsort, [Melissa Data]], DrugLogic. I understand what advertising and notability mean, but the problem is that these standards do not appear to be applied objectively or uniformly to others our equal, so details please ... what areas strike you as needing more, less or different detail in our case? Jtree09 (talk) 17:17, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

(od)The complete list of products, complete with glorious descriptions of all their various virues, is something that belongs in a catalog, not an encyclopedia. That alone would be enough for me to nominate such an article for speedy deletion. The other MAJOR problem is that nowhere in your article do you tell the reader why this company or its products are notable. Why does this company belong in Wikipedia? WuhWuzDat 17:25, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Understood, but then how does the CoSort article then differ in any way from the approved Syncsort article? CoSort is notable as: 1) the first commercial sort software provider off the mainframe; 2) with a host of firsts in that space alone (like full SQL join and aggregate functions outside the database for flat files, parallel sorting); 3) the only ISV with field-level encryption for flat files; 4) the only one sorting and converting huge LDIF and XML files; 5) the only one parsing data models to create test data; 6) the only one generating CJK test data. These would be notable things within the products listed, which is more than the other ISVs with listed products are saying. But to say these notable technical things might seem like so much product advertising, so it's like a catch 22. From a company standpoint, IRI/CoSort, like SyncSort, has been around a very long time and is in wide use around the world, so how would you proceed in this situation? Thanks again Jtree09 (talk) 17:46, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
As for your comparison to other articles, I urge you to read Wikipedia:Other stuff exists. Do you have any relation to this company? I notice a COI warning from an Admin on your user talk page. WuhWuzDat 18:00, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again re: COI and OSE. COI exists, and apologies for not stating that earlier. Though I've worked there a long time and know the company, customers, competitors, industry, etc., the goal is simply a neutral article that stays and it's in the request list for someone else to write! Fortunately, I know the facts and references best, and could help anyone. Meanwhile, the article seems long overdue, and I am happy to take on the challenge. So I ask again what it is about the current article that should be changed to establish notability per the examples above, and what should be removed or changed to avoid any air of advertising. In OSE terms, SS and CS are the Coke and Pepsi of the big data sorting industry, so it seems either both articles should stay or both should go. Please advise Jtree09 (talk) 18:27, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Due to your admitted COI, I would suggest submitting this article through the articles for creation process. WuhWuzDat 18:35, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

As mentioned, yes, that's been done as well. Given the fact that there are so many articles requested, I think we should acknowledge a likely very long delay, and still the possibility of speedy deletion afterwards. Instead, given the COI in other successful software company contributions, my knowledge of the facts and references re: CoSort, and a clear willingness to amend the article with your guidance, couldn't we collaborate to fix what's there to overcome your notability and advertising objections? That would be faster and produce the best article. Also, if there is another expert like yourself who works with these articles more often, please refer me. Thanks again for all the help! Jtree09 (talk) 18:45, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Ok, now I'm confused...how did I become an "expert"? WuhWuzDat 19:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In regard to your recent accusations of edit warring of Terror, I have deleted your comments from my talk page because they are not applicable to me. Wholesale deletion of entire sections is vandalism. It is not edit warring.

The vandal in question is trying to delete the only article on the term Terror. This is vandalism, plain and simple. You are not superior to your fellow editors. If you promote vandalism out of some misguided sense of loyalty to your friends here on Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. In the future, please review the actual case before you accuse someone of edit warring. Thank you. --BurnOMG (talk) 13:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I just would like to know what exactly made the article too one-sided, biased, or commercial to have it deleted. In order to re-arrange/rewrite the text, it would be very nice of you to give me some advice regarding things I should avoid next time.

Surely the information on the various Canon printers should be combined , not the articles deleted entirely. I declined the speedy. if you want to discuss the general issue, suggest where. DGG ( talk ) 01:25, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I nominated Canon Pixma MX850 and Nokia 6730 for speedy, based on the fact that both articles, created by User:XLoffers seemed to be written to support the (spam) external links included by the content author. I have now removed these SPAM links, said removals being the the 2 edits in my history, immediately preceding this reply. WuhWuzDat 01:42, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Perpetual Data Delete

Hi

New here so please take it easy. I was creating a page for a product I am involved in so can see a conflict of interest and respect that, however I do assume that this is also easy to overcome, honesty etc. works.

The page was tagged with delete, validity etc. etc.

I started to update the page and try and remove references (it was pretty much cut and paste of some company info) when I realised the advertising look of the information. I did however want to detail what Perpetual Data is as it seems to have caught the attention of a good few folks and is technology that is very advanced in many ways and hopefully for the good.

Although it seems like conflict of interest I hold over 80% of the shares in the business that has raised over $1M in funding and these shares are to be donated to a foundation, so not self interest. Anyway it can all be easily solved I feel. This is another article I want to do and it's how to create open products and businesses for the good of all, even when having to use patents to protect small startups in the first place (I am not a patent fan when there used to stifle innovation).

So anyway I altered a lot of stuff yesterday and today went to crack away at making it more neutral and based on facts (a lot cannot be verified unless I link to patents or the likes as it is a very new technology). I went to add more info this morning and the page was deleted under me. Arghh !!

What I did not do was touch any of the tags I believe you added to the page as I was unsure how this worked, I would not have thought and auto delete was in place (I see I can add a hold on type tag now though). I did ask for help in the talk page of the article on reading your tags but this appears gone as well.

So intro is a tough one I think as it was many hours of work to update and bring it closer in line with Wikipedia and do so without upsetting folks by changing tags et.

I would appreciate if you could undelete it or give me a chance to get some help from some of you dudes to get it right in the first place.

Thanks a lot David Irvine.david (talk) 07:25, 18 August 2009 (UTC) PS Dont worry about feelings to much I have been on slashdot for many years so you can be to the point if yer busy, dignity goes a long way though :-)

No, I can not un-delete the article (I am not an admin), however, the CSD notice I placed on your user talk page contains a link to a list of admins who may be willing to provide a copy to you. WuhWuzDat 14:00, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I have got a a copy and would like to try again, do you suggest if I do the sandbox thing then I could have people like you look at it and give guidance. Is this a better approach (suppose getting used to the markup takes a wee while and I need to learn)

BGRM Article

Ok, I am new to Wikipedia. I saw the rather negative remarks added to the BGRM listing and I attempted to change what I felt was all negative in this article. Bluegrass Railroad Museum is a Kentucky group with a troubled past and a very negative image in the railfan community. But it has a lot of potential and a few bright spots. My article edits were based on verifiable information. I obtained some from the BGRM website (www.bgrm.org), some from current BGRM members and some from community members and past members. I have read several of the railfan blogs as well (though I do not post on them). I replied to the failure comment on the articles talk page, but then thought better of that, not wanting to argue with him, and deleted my post/edit there. Is that ok? I couldn't find any rules about deleting my reply. Please tell me how I can make this a better article. I am used to writing for newspapers and magazines, so my writing style may need tweaking for this genre. I welcome any suggestions. I know Wikipedia is not a place to air dirty laundry or to cover up dirty laundry either. Only state informative facts, not personal opinion, in a readable manner.Wenchltd (talk) 02:22, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps my warning to you was in error, I saw the blatant POV edits that had been done to the article, and reverted back before any of your contributions had occured. Deleting a talk page comment, within a short period of time, is considered a Good Faith retraction of your comments. WuhWuzDat 02:30, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy Delete Noms

Hello and good morning. Do you use a program to tag articles for speedy delete. The reason I ask is that you always have an edit summary that says speedy delete nom and I noticed I don't. I assumed Wiki's software tagged nominations itself until I started noticing mine were not tagged. Is it a script you use?--TParis00ap (talk) 13:09, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it's a script called Twinkle. WuhWuzDat 13:10, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Roger, should have known. I've been trying to avoid installing Twinkle for the fear of the installation process. I guess I'll just have to figure it out. Thanks.--TParis00ap (talk) 13:12, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Ok, after the intense click to my Preferences and Gadget page, I finally managed to click that scary "Twinkle" checkbox and now it is done. Thanks for the help.--TParis00ap (talk) 13:14, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I've installed Twinkle using both methods, enabling in my preferences and adding to moonbrook.js, and I still do not see any changes or additional features. Could you help me? Thanks.--TParis00ap (talk) 15:39, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
TW does NOT work wit internet explorer, try using it with firefox. it that still doesnt work, press control-Shift R to clear your cache. WuhWuzDat 21:27, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Roger, I figured it out about an hour ago. Most js works in IE so I just assumed it would work. Guess I was wrong. Thanks!--TParis00ap (talk) 21:28, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Konstant partition function

Please don't do things like this edit. You should never tag an article for deletion just because it's badly written. The topic is clearly worthy of an article, given how much it's been talked about over the years. Michael Hardy (talk) 03:47, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

No matter how clear it may seem to you, to me it was simply an uninformative definition of an obscure math function. Please read the RED text at the top of this page, and realize that not everyone speaks advanced mathematics as a second language. WuhWuzDat 12:38, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

RfA

Hello. Since I became active on Wikipedia, there are three people I can count on to patrol new pages and mark the CSD or delete a page seconds before I do. That'd be Accounting4Taste, Toddst, and yourself. I think your a very active and effective new page patroller and vandalism fighter and I'd like to try to nominate you for adminship, if you'd accept. I'm fairly new and am only vaguely familar with the process having only read RfAs and never participating in one myself. However, I think you are deserving and I'd like to get it a go if you are onboard. v/r--TParis00ap (talk) 01:18, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Some time ago, you placed a speedy deletion tag on an article entitled, Taylor J. Hort. You then notified an editor of that article of the speedy deletion nomination. That nomination was successful. That same user has re-created that article here. It should again be nominated for speedy deletion. I would do it myself, but am not fully conversant with the process. In the meantime, I have added the {{BLP unsourced}} and {{Notability}} templates to the article. Thanks! — SpikeToronto (talk) 01:45, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Thx

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. —SpaceFlight89 16:20, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

COI flag on IKRantala

Howdy, I saw you flagged IKRantala for COI. I agree it's odd when the first edit is a create for a page like he/she did. All the same you might want to reconsider the flag. Joe407 (talk) 17:01, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

It would have to be a very cold day in a very warm place, for me to reconsider that edit, especially after reading his article Finnish Mobile Association, which states "The Co-Founder and CEO of the organization is Mr. Ismo Rantala". Blatant, admitted, COI, if I ever saw it. WuhWuzDat 17:04, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Wow. You are right. I didn't notice that. My apologies. I did give a shot at rewiting the article. As it is now, it's a bit less of an advert. Thoughts? Joe407 (talk) 17:13, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

FinnMob article

After re-writing the article to a non-advert form, I'm still not sure it's notable. Take a look around it and for some sources. You might want to swap your SD for an AfD as I wrote on the talk page. At the very least it would get a few more opinions and give the author a few more days to understand the WP system and try to show notability. Thanks, Joe407 (talk) 17:47, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Nice one.

I loved your "Where's the foot spray?" comment on your summary in your recent edit replying to CD Drive. - Zhang He (talk) 23:13, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

He is SOOOOO gone.

Someone needs to take a ten-pound maul and beat the fact into this looney toon's head that he's a banned user. Permanent timeout forthcoming. Just when I thought he gave up. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:35, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

If the ten pound maul proves to be ineffective, I have access to a 50 ton hydraulic press, and several 2000+ HP locomotives, which may prove more effective. WuhWuzDat 00:39, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

A person after my own heart, as evidenced by the fact I was once a member of the Orange Empire Railway Museum. Got to drive the sole remaining GE U25B in operating condition, a dream come true if there ever was one. I love the line about how he asked whether or not anyone thought he was the Disney Vandal. What a schmuck. Keep those locomotives idling. If he comes back, let's put them to good use.  :) Thanks for letting me know he showed up; I rolled back all his remaining edits. PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:59, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Give my fellow volunteers at Illinois Railway Museum a few years, and there may be another running U25B (Milw Rd. 5056), but I prefer running CB&Q9911A, myself. WuhWuzDat 01:04, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, buddy! I remember reading about that other U-boat! I may rejoin that museum; I'm moving a bit closer to it. I've had cab rides in their EMD E8 and in historic ATSF 98, but ah, driving the U-boat was the beat-all-end-all. I also helped design and build the museum's interactive "signal garden" exhibit. When they showed me an old wooden boxcar full of Magnetic Flagman motors and banners, I thought I'd die. They'd all come off of old Pacific Electric lines in and around San Bernardino. We took two really nice motors, got them working, restored some upper-quadrant and lower-quadrant bases and bada-bing, the museum had a pair of wigwags which operate at the push of a button. PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:29, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

PS: Never seen an E5 in the flesh this far out west...and you drive one on a regular basis. You are LUCKY, bro.  :) PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:36, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Fahrenheit (Chilean band)

Just a friendly note on Fahrenheit (Chilean band). The article when you tagged it had claims of meeting WP:MUSIC (multiple reviews, international tour), so I declined the speedy. If you think the band isn't notable, AfD would be the way to go because the claims of meeting WP:MUSIC would make this controversial. HTH! --Fabrictramp | talk to me 23:20, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

The Cureheads entry

It seems form your Mockingbird quote that you enjoy deletions and the abuse it brings you. You probably know far more about Wiki than I. I have tried to answer your reasons for deletion as civilly and directly as I can. From the layout of this particular page and the smugness that it exudes I doubt that will get me very far in trying to save my entry. However I believe my reasons are solid according to issues on notability. I ask respectfully that you look at my answer and 'hold on' tag and rather than chalk up another successful 'hurt you got on somebody' offer some advice as to how I can keep this entry going before I go on and add more links to other alternative artists who happen to play in tribute bands as was my original intention.

Thankyou for you time. I am sure you are a busy person who has lots of revenge to wreak on the world. GothicRockerJourno (talk) 08:28, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
