Vandalism patrolling and warnings

Hi Wyatt2049, I wanted to let you know that I reverted part of the message you left on User talk:85.255.236.96. I did this for two reasons. First, your edit said that you had reported the user to the administrator's noticeboard. This isn't accurate as you had actually reported them to WP:AIV. Leaving a message that is unhelpful as it misleads the IP user. Second, we don't generally notify users when they are reported to WP:AIV, as it can lead to vandalism of that noticeboard.

On a related matter, the general practice when you see vandalism is to first revert the vandalism. You then need to warn the user. We have standard warning messages you can use. Reporting a vandal without warning them at least a couple of times, usually results in the vandal not being blocked. I have left an appropriate warning on that IP's page.

Finally, thank you for helping out with cleaning up vandalism. I don't want to discourage you from doing so. I hope the notes above are useful. All the best, Railfan23 (talk) 18:43, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Eudonia notozeucta

Hello Wyatt2049, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Eudonia notozeucta, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 only applies to individual animals, not species. If you are interested in learning more about how speedy deletion works, I have compiled a list of helpful pages at User:SoWhy/SDA. You can of course also contact me if you have questions. Thank you. Edits to PPFA Page

Hello Wyatt,

I edited the PPFA Page and you deleted all of my edits. These edits are correct. The information in the page you restored is not correct. The organization has went through several changes since this page was created and needed the changes I entered. Please restore it to the new version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RGentry1 (talkcontribs) 22:34, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

"UNNAMED"

Hello, and thanks for the message. I completely understand. I changed the spelling of Tim Feild's name because he was someone I knew personally, and this was genuinely how his name was spelt. Inevitably, people often mistakenly spelt it as 'Field', although he himself really didn't bother about that at all. I was involved in publishing and marketing a number of the books he wrote later as Reshad Feild (and under which name he actually has a Wikipedia entry). Of course, I fully appreciate the need for corroboration, but I haven't yet found a citation confirming my personal knowledge about the spelling of Tim/Reshad's surname (although I know plenty people who could do so orally!). However, I do believe there are references to his identity and previous history as a musician in the introduction to at least one of his earlier books (and, I think, also in the text). I will try to pin it down. However, if one accepts that Tim Feild and Reshad Feild were one and the same person (which they certainly were!), then QED -- one Wikipedia entry corroborates another. I admit I haven't checked the Wikipedia entry for the Springfields singing group, but one might find confirmation there, too. And, yes, it might have given me a bit more leverage if I'd bothered to log in in the first place! Regards...Robin 96.234.213.53 (talk) 00:55, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Essential Services Commission of South Australia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rail (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:55, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Dorian

I have reverted your edits again because it is simply WP:TOOSOON. Please do not revert me again as there is a rule limiting an editor to 3 reversions on an article within 24 hours. Dorian certainly will have an impact, but the scale of that impact is the issue. If it is minor, it should simply be included in the season article. As this is not a strong storm, you should wait and see what it does before deciding to make an article. Feel free to copy your work to WP:Drafts. NoahTalk 11:33, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

2019 Atlantic hurricane season: Current Storm Information Section

Please refrain from adding forecasts to the current advisory sections, like you did here. Those forecasts are not guaranteed to be correct (WP:SPECULATION), plus it is irrelevant to that section. Thank you, and happy editing! — Braxton C. Womacktalk to me! 00:53, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Copyright violations

Please be aware that we can not upload images from any source as we please, such as the image from this New York Times artcile. The majority of images are copyrighted and not usable on Wikipedia. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 01:16, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Welcome!

Ohai there! Welcome to the tropical cyclone Wikiproject. I have been an editor here for a few years (*cough* more than half my life, god I'm old), and I'm also an administrator. I've seen my share of conflicts, and my share of collaborations. Wikipedia can be a great resource for the world, provided the information it contains is valid, non-biased, and cited. If you have any questions about editing, feel free to ask me.

I have one question for you though: what is your intended area of focus? Happy editing! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:15, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

I had a feeling. A lot of new editors prefer editing the new storms. That's a good thing, because new storms have the most information, and it takes a lot of organizational effort to get that info into the articles. For Durian, for example, look out for reports from St. Lucia and all of the other nearby islands. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:05, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

Thanks for supporting my unsuccessful RfA.Most appreciated. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 20:43, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Editor of the Week

Thanks for the nomination. I will be looking to expand it next week sometime. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Accepted nominations which is the Queue for future EDDY awards to see that they are a bit more extensive and explanatory. Thanks again. ―Buster7  15:59, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Current storm information

Hello Wyatt2049, and welcome to WPTC! Hope you're enjoying your time around here. In future when updating the current storm information section in hurricane articles could you please keep the templates there? The convert templates help to avoid rounding errors since NHC rounds conversions from knots to multiple of 5 but not everyone remembers that, while the "Coord" template links to WikiMiniAtlas which contains more data about the location. The non-breaking spaces (those   things in the edit window) prevent line breaks in awkward areas, for example within dates and times. Thanks, and see you around! ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 04:59, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

GA reviewing

It is my opinion that you are not sufficiently experienced to be doing GA reviews yet; I question whether you are in a good position to assess proper grammar given that you commited numerous grammar errors yourself and missed some grammar errors in the article. You also don't seem to completely understand WP:NPOV.

Your review of 1916 Texas hurricane was also not thorough; although I don't disagree overall with it, you missed some errors like "The nearby resort community of Riviera Beach destroyed all buildings and most residences, resulting in an exodus that led to the resort's demise." (so Riviera Beach destroyed its buildings and residences?).

This isn't an affront on you as an editor, but it does mean that you need more experience writing GA's before reviewing them.--Jasper Deng (talk) 12:58, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

@Jasper Deng: Hello. I was trying to do 2 reviews because I submitted an article for GA review too. I will wait a little while before I do another one. --Wyatt2049 | (talk) 13:04, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

If this is how you review articles, please don't review any more. --Rschen7754 16:54, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Pensacola-tornado.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Pensacola-tornado.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - Frood (talk!) 06:28, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

@Frood: Hello, Frood. I have applied a rational and removed the template. If you would like to comment, feel free to do so! Thanks! --Wyatt2049 | (Talk) or (Stalk) 17:33, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
You have it marked as under a CC license. Unless you own the copyright or know that it is licensed under that license, you can't do that. I'd encourage you to read over the non-free content criteria as mentioned in the previous message. - Frood (talk!) 20:08, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

Dorian

Unfortunately, we have to emotionally distance ourselves from those being affected while editing on Wikipedia (which sometimes means simply letting others create the content) in order to preserve neutrality and encyclopedic wording. I know you really do care about those people, but you can't add warnings to the text telling them to evacuate as it isn't encyclopedic. Sadly, it is too late for anyone to evacuate if they have not already. I watched as over a thousand people in Mozambique died as Cyclone Idai struck them. Others in the project have seen much worse. Trust me when I say it is very hard to not try to help the situation. NoahTalk 13:24, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Dreamlandskatecenter.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Frood (talk!) 20:27, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
