Need to your help to reduce the protection level in kulala page

Hi Yamla - Nice to meet.

I trying to edit the kulala page for past 24 hours but I can't do single edits since the previous semi protection level changed to full protection.

Even I tried to get the help from talk page but no one responding back properly.

Below is conversation what I had with talk page.

Note : changed little bit below conversation which i did grammar mistakes in talk page for your understanding.

X/ The traditional occupation of Kulala people is making pottery, although in the present day their occupations also include government service and wage-labour.

Y/kulala people are called artisan and they make potterys, although in the present day most of them are merchants and they has their own terracotta shops.

X/ Kumhar

Not done for now: Please provide reliable sourcing for this, as the statement currently in the article is sourced. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:16, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi ScottishFinnishRadish -

I don't see a single article says kulala words related to pottery. As per india government record kulala caste certificate issued only to potters community in south india (Kerala, tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh). So that is only prove we had for kulala name is belongs to potter community in south india.

In india we called potter as a artsian and they make clay pots, idols etc. They also involved in trade aswell. Since they need to sell their pots and idols to the customers.

Check out this below website/article in india. usually they will call Potters as a artisan.

Even I searched multiple articles in internet I didn't see that potters are working in government service and wage labour.

So please do remove that sentence in the article. Tamilan pugal (talk) 15:08, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Potter's are involed in trading aswell.

I have a reliable article with me but no one helping me to edit this page.

If possible kindly reduce the protection level it will easy for me to do a constructive edit.

Looking forward for your response. Tamilan pugal (talk) 18:03, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

No, sorry, I'm not comfortable lifting the other admin's protection from that page. ScottishFinnishRadish is correct to reject your edit suggestion, as it needs to be correctly formatted and properly cited. WP:RS and WP:CITE will help you understand that. --Yamla (talk) 18:07, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Wow.

Hey Yamla, Not sure what's all's going on here, but we got a request at WP:RPP to stop the vandals here, so I've semi'ed your page. I figure you can adjust the time, etc, when you get around to it. Let me know if I can help with anything else. - CorbieVreccan 00:37, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Suspected sockpuppet of ZestyLemonz

Hi, I might find a new sock of ZestyLemonz, Cutiepiedemixoxo (talk · contribs), this user was created less than a day after Laurenmaexx got blocked.

Overlap Compare to other blocked sock TellyShows, Lauren-mae69 & Laurenmaexx, for now, Cutiepiedemixoxo edited Big Brother (Australian season 13), Zoe Ball, Nikki Grahame, Strictly Come Dancing & a bunch of Love Island articles. And the accound name also with "xoxo" similar to another blocked sock LaurenXoxoVictoria. I smell suspicious WP:DUCK. —— A675974811 (talk) 16:24, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Invitation for Functionary consultation 2021

Greetings,

I'm letting you know in advance about a meeting I'd like to invite you to regarding the Universal Code of Conduct and the community's ownership of its future enforcement. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 27 June, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. We have created a meta page with basic information. Please take a look at the meta page and sign up your name under the appropriate section.

Thank you for your time.--BAnand (WMF) 15:06, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Urgent request for help

Would you be willing to do a checkuser at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Stepgilara? The editor is creating new socks as fast as we can block them, and as far as I can see the only hope is a CU finding a suitable range block. It may be a /64 range. JBW (talk) 16:32, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Looking. --Yamla (talk) 16:33, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
For privacy reasons, I've requested another admin place the blocks. I'll update the SPI in a moment. --Yamla (talk) 16:43, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't expect you to do the blocks visibly, but if the other administrator you mention can do it that will be fine. JBW (talk) 16:49, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
No problem. And I was mostly leaving a note for myself, I knew you didn't expect me to disclose the IP addresses. :) --Yamla (talk) 16:51, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Inadvertent rollback?

Why did you do this? Reverts with no edit summary are meant to describe vandalism, and I hope you're not suggesting that my removing the partial close of an obviously still ongoing discussion was an act of deliberate disruption? Ivanvector's squirrel (trees/nuts) 17:24, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

That was a definite misclick. I agree I did that rollback a few minutes ago but have no recollection of even seeing that edit. I rolled back my rollback. Sorry, no offense intended. Had I meant to imply anything, I'd most certainly have left a comment! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. --Yamla (talk) 17:27, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
Much appreciated! I thought that was probably what happened. Ivanvector's squirrel (trees/nuts) 17:27, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Technical news

  • Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Revoking User:JeezMan9000's Talk Page Access

Hi Yamla, I now noticed that after you declined User:JeezMan9000's unblock request, he started attacking other editors like you and Ponyo on his talk page. Please consider revoking his talk page access. I messaged that also on Ponyo's talk page. Hayleez (talk) 21:12, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

You did indeed, and I declined to do so. While I don't doubt your good faith, I'm not super keen on the "teach him a lesson" angle. -- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:18, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Agree with Ponyo. As long as a blocked user only attacks admins, who cares. Let 'em vent. Bishonen | tålk 11:02, 12 June 2021 (UTC).
As in "flipped out" or "flipped off"? As to the venters, just ignore them. They will tire and find a more productive pass time, like drawing in the books at their local library or carving their names into desks. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:33, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
@Deep: Over the years I've often had to restrain myself from posting on disruptive editors' talk pages "Why don't you find something more useful to do with your time, such as banging your head against a brick wall?", but I think I prefer your version. 🤭 JBW (talk) 15:06, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

An unblock request

Hi, Yamla. There's an unblock request at User talk:Robertjamal12 which has several features which to me look unusual, and I think a CheckUser should look at it. Would you be with do it? If you want me to I can tell you my thoughts about it by email, but you may well be able to see for yourself what I have in mind. JBW (talk) 14:54, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Happy to take a look! In meetings right now, but as soon as I'm done. --Yamla (talk) 16:31, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
The editor says the block is now lifted, but there has been no change to the one block that I found that could have affected the IP address that the editor mentioned (a range block on editing just a few articles). If you did something invisible that changed things, thank you, and if you haven't yet done anything you may like to just leave it. JBW (talk) 18:58, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Hmm. I now see that block is anon-only, which adds to the other features which made this block look strange when I saw it earlier. I think there must be something more than meets the eye. JBW (talk) 19:00, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
I didn't change anything. I did send you an email, though. TL;DNR: I saw no concerns there, but freely admit I may have missed something. --Yamla (talk) 19:24, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Comment on Mohammed106

Hello, Yamla. IMHO, what is going on at User talk:Mohammed106 is a mixture of trolling and WP:CIR, and looks like revoking talk page access for Mohammed106 would be more than justifiable. Cheers, —Sundostund (talk) 18:26, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Request for temporary protection to my user talk page

Hey, would it be possible for me to have my talk page temporarily protected for about a month so that only autoconfirmed and confirmed users can message me? That way the chances of me having to deal with harassment from sockpuppets for a month will be significantly smaller. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 23:42, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Unblock Request

With respect sir, you say that my page was "littered with warnings from this month", which are you referring to? 1 user brought me to an ANI and was blocked himself for a couple of days because he was more guilty of the things he accused me of than I. Another user I brought an ANI against, and an admin told me I was being a bit punitive. My request was for access to a talk page, not even the main page. I'd appreciate a clarification Sucker for All (talk) 22:21, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

In July, I see one from JesseRafe, 5 from BlueboyLINY, one notifying you of an edit-warring noticeboard discussion (from BlueboyLINY), and two from valeree. There's an excellent chance that you are correct about BlueboyLINY and are welcome to make a new unblock request clarifying that (as reviewers wouldn't read the discussion over here). That still leaves you with three, by my count, from other users though. --Yamla (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
Rather than trying to get blueboy blocked, and that might be possible since it already happened, I'd rather get talk page access restored for Future Nostalgia. Jesse opened up a false sockpuppet investigation into me and then insinuated I was the user wrong at WABC despite being the user engaging in talk page discussion. 2 other users were mad at my vanguard edits despite the fact that they were basically identical to my edits at a couple other similar firms. valeree was more or less summarizing other users' arguments and did not really present any additional arguments against me (as an admin, he could have blocked me of course). With respect, other users being frustrated with edits of mine that make sense does not clarify why I can't have talk page access restored for an article. Though valeree was frustrated I pursued getting Jesse blocked, he hasn't really criticized my behavior in other ways. And the specific point in question, namely Tainy's name in a specific infobox, is a moot point now because the infobox was eliminated. So in all honesty, I don't know why my access to that page has still been revoked, let alone the talk page.. Sucker for All (talk) 16:23, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi there,

It's not a CU-block, as it was a clear ducking case, but could you do a CU check on User talk:BAABNRRBBORB1 (original sockpuppet was User:Norman Roswin Rolf Birkner) to see if there's been any recent socking? Cheers (please ping if needed) Nosebagbear (talk) 14:35, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

I doubt it, but I've been surprised before. Note that the user remains blocked. --Yamla (talk) 17:13, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

how does one determine an open proxy?

I want to take this issue up with my ISP, Telus-BritishColumbia, but I do not know how an open proxy determination is made. Please help me understand how open proxy status is determined, so I can take up this issue with my ISP. Extemporalist (talk) 21:35, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Often, with nmap. However, sometimes we (Wikipedia, not me personally) use custom tools that do much the same, or they may use a third party service to determine this. WHOIS is also helpful, though it's not likely to be in your case (as you know it is Telus). In this case, you should probably reach out to ST47 who may have additional guidance for you, as it is their block. I see this one in particular is listed as "API-confirmed P2P VPN". Note, though, the fact that you are able to edit my talk page means you are not currently affected by the block on that IP address. --Yamla (talk) 21:45, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Socks?

Hi Yamla, on August 18, you CU-blocked Frank6292010 but did not identify the master. I just blocked Safari web as a suspected sock of Frank. Although not identical in pattern, there are many similarities; see, e.g., Sambad. At the same time, Safari web created their account on August 2, about two weeks before you blocked Frank, meaning a check of Frank might have uncovered Safari web. I remain fairly convinced that Safari web is a sock of someone, but I was wondering if you could check the account. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:13, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Confusingly, I show them as  Unlikely. Same general area of the world but different user agents, different cities. Could be WP:MEAT. Regardless, the block looks good to me. As to the lack of master, it's because they've been editing with an IP address and so I'm prohibited from identifying that. Pretty abusive edits from the IP address, though. --Yamla (talk) 15:46, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Without making a statement on whether or not that's the account (I'm prohibited from doing so), I have blocked the IPv6 /64 range. See the log. Hopefully that's enough but given this has been apparently going on since 2019, I think we'll see an escalating series of blocks here. --Yamla (talk) 18:42, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

You've declined based on the usual hard block scenario? -- Longhair\talk 10:38, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Accurate. Also, I see they did indeed request a rename over on the global rename queue. I'll go process everything in the next few minutes. --Yamla (talk) 10:39, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
Hello @Longhair, @Yamla,
I thank you for accepting my unblock request and would also like to extend my apology once again.
Sincere thanks to all the admins for keeping Wikipedia safe. Thank you very much!
Sincerely,

You have been highly honored

as you are now among me and Ponyo in our greatness. LOL --Deepfriedokra (talk) 01:04, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Oh, fabulous joy! :( --Yamla (talk) 10:24, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for granting IPBE!!

Hi!

You just posted a message on my talk page. How do I figure out why my account was blocked? - HarshAJ (Talk)(Contribs) 09:06, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Your account was never blocked. You can verify this by looking here. As to why you were unable to edit, almost certainly you were using a proxy or a VPN but no longer are. --Yamla (talk) 10:04, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Oooh, ah! Sorry for the trouble and thanks! Should I do something about the Unblock request over on my talk page? -HarshAJ (Talk)(Contribs) 10:09, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
You are free to remove it from your talk page! --Yamla (talk) 10:54, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Hey

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Unblock request from BashurMan --Deepfriedokra (talk) 21:39, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know! --Yamla (talk) 10:11, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Don't quite understand

Hi Yamla, I don't quite understand the unblock decline on User talk:Namibia University of Science and Technology. The user was blocked for the obvious violation of the username policy. Her article creation was declined first for notability, then for lack of inline citations, not for the equally obvious COI. Shouldn't that mean that the original issue is gone, and the block can be lifted?

She's sitting in a Wikipedia training that I run, I explained the reason of the block. She already knows that she can't edit any COI topics before we cover how to do that. Next week she'll ask me which policies she should know first, and I'm not sure what to answer. Needless to say the training does not get easier with a blocked attendee... Please advise. Thanks, Pgallert (talk) 14:20, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

The block was not just for the username. It was for "promotional username, promotional edits". See this block notice from 331dot. Their unblock request indicated that they did not yet understand WP:COI; we expect editors to understand what they did wrong before being unblocked, not at some time after. --Yamla (talk) 14:23, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. I only checked the notification, not the block log itself, my bad. --Pgallert (talk) 10:16, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Arbitration

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

  • Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
  • The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

Another chance?

Hi there. I do think that Mint69 perhaps deserves another chance. He has admitted guilt and taken responsibility and not tried to shift blame elsewhere. The thing is, he did create some good articles while he was active on the website, unlike a lot of other new users, the articles he created were actually well written and passed GNG. Plus, I think now he has learnt his lesson. Perhaps he deserves another chance and can be watched closely? Just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter. Thanks. Inexpiable (talk) 16:44, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

I am not the blocking admin in this case. That's ST47. --Yamla (talk) 17:19, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

UTRS 48997

That was Harsh of me. I left a note on the ticket after I banned him. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:53, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

May we always face sockpuppets that obvious. :) --Yamla (talk) 12:58, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

No conflict of interest

Hi Yamla, I recently made edits to an article and got a message from you about a potential undisclosed conflict of interest. I just wanted to confirm that while I was previously employed by one of the companies mentioned in the edit, I have no conflict of interest and only made the edits (addition) to the page since it was significant and reported by major news outlets. I also confirm that I didn't edit for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything and that there is no compensation involved. Ambarshante (talk) 03:11, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Make sure you declare your conflict of interest as per WP:COI. --Yamla (talk) 12:11, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

On the block

I can't disable my proxy. It's enforced by my administrator. Minkai (talk to me)(see where I screwed up) 12:21, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, that means you should expect to hit autoblocks on a regular basis. --Yamla (talk) 12:21, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

What do you think about this one?

UTRS appeal #49036? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:21, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

The original blocking admin was Ferret. Then strengthened by Deepfriedokra, then strengthened further by me. My opinion is they are a dubious case, but a possible case. I'll leave my thoughts in UTRS. --Yamla (talk) 15:41, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I cannot view her objectively. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:37, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, no doubt. Really problematic for both of us specifically in the past. --Yamla (talk) 16:42, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

User:BadBeast.OFF and WP:3X

It looks like three or four sockpuppet accounts of BadBeast.OFF have been blocked. Does anything further need to be noted to document that this user is now effectively site-banned by the community? —C.Fred (talk) 18:53, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

The initial block was (in my timezone) on 2021-10-09T15:10:54. I don't see two instances of checkuser-confirmed socks after that time, unfortunately. I may be missing the two instances. It's not all that relevant, of course; hard to see anyone ever unblocking that person, especially given the strong guess this is FDMD04 (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FDMD04/Archive). FDMD04 is definitely past WP:3X and could be tagged with {{banned user}}. :) --Yamla (talk) 19:04, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

Hello.

I would like to inform you that according to the check in UkWiki the account RogueRickC137 (talk · contribs) belongs to the indefinitely blocked user in EnWiki Piznajko (talk · contribs). --Mykola7 (talk) 02:58, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

UTRS 49651

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ --Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:33, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, shrug is right. Maybe they'll surprise us with a compelling explanation! --Yamla (talk) 12:57, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

Was I too harsh?

Is there anything to be done with UTRS appeal #49365 ? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:50, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

I have no problem with the block being lifted (by you or anyone else), but I'm not at all sure they are willing to answer your questions. That bodes really badly. I think you are being fair here. You and I know perfectly well that just waiting for a while isn't enough. It's unclear if they know that. :( --Yamla (talk) 18:56, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Welp, I done me best. Looks like we got a "failure to communicate." --Deepfriedokra (talk) 04:23, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

IP Block Exemption

Greetings,

Please see User_talk:Taking_Out_The_Trash#October_2021. It appears that you are the admin who placed this block. As such, unless you are willing to change it to be anon. only and/or reduce the duration, could you please grant me IP Block Exemption? It's becoming increasingly frustrating not being unable to edit anywhere except my own house. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 19:08, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

I will respond there. --Yamla (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
