Remove reflection of glass. Make background all white. Keep and retouch shadow at base to make it more uniform. Restore golden parts that cannot be seen due to bright light.

Well, my FFT filtering didn't quite get all the "halftoning", and I had to use a bit of "surface blur", but here's File:TsetereliFotografíasCárcelDeMetejiTiflis1904 (retouched).png to look at in the meantime. The background could be 'evened out' a bit more, but I didn't like the results I was getting with my attempts to do that non-destructively, so I stopped here. -- Begoon 04:27, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to use it for an article on someone born in the house in 1908, and it would be excellent if the three modern things in the foreground could be removed. Request: Please remove all pink lines and dots in the map, since they don't follow any historical boundary but are randomnly applied. Remove any blue lines that do not follow the course of rivers and complete missing rivers and also the shaded coast of oceans and lakes with same blue. In the centre there is a mountaineous area that is also blue, it should be green. All missing forests should be green. Some mountaineous ranges are also missing their beige colour. Compare this same map for guidance [1]. For the the top right retouch coat of arms so the colours are correct as can be seen here [2]. Colour left white hand of angel on top of the coat of arms in pink like the rest of the body. Graphist opinion(s): I'm not sure if I understand the rationale for this request. The map purports to be from the 17th century, created by Carolo Allard, who I assume was a cartographer. There are at least 2 versions of the map on Commons with differing amounts of colour – File:Poland and Lithuania - by Carolo Allard - 1696 AD.jpg and File:Regni Poloniae Magni Ducatus Lithuaniae Tabula Carolo Allard.jpg. They can't both be the original, and any map altered by one of us certainly won't be original. So what is this map going to be used for? nagualdesign 17:16, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Digging a little deeper I found a hi-res copy of the original, which I've uploaded as File:Regni Poloniae Magni Ducatus Lithuaniae.jpg. Comparing it to the other image I see that the only difference is that you have whitened the smaller image. I don't think that it's good practice to whiten a map that's over 300 years old, and the changes you have asked for are ill-advised. It may well be that the pink lines are "randomly applied" and don't follow any historical boundaries, but it's a faithful reproduction of the original. If you want an accurate modern map of historical boundaries I'm sure they're available. nagualdesign 18:22, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The map is for the template. You can rename your new file with some wording that it is edited. But the pink lines just do not make any sense and the colouring scheme is all wrong with the coat of arms as well. I would liked to have the colours corrected. Assuming that you're talking about Template:History of Poland, why whiten the map at all? By making the background white you've actually made the pink boundary lines ever so slightly visible, whereas before (and in the thumbnail of the original map above) the pink lines aren't visible. Do you think that people will be reading articles about Polish history, squint at the infobox and think, "Wait a minute, those borders appear to be historically inaccurate!"? How about this; the original map is itself part of Polish history, and including it in the infobox in its original form is purely decorative and entirely apropos. It's not that I'm unwilling to fulfil your request, I'm actually saying, as another editor, that I disagree with your proposed edit.
