E-mail confirmation…[edit]

I have received 3 "requests" for an email confirmation; The first one was sent on 4/19/08 @ 4:54 PM; the second was sent to me on 4/20/08 @ 2:47AM, AND there was a DUPLICATE of this one.

I responded to the first one on 4/20/08- likely in the afternoon, and when I got to the linked page, the response was that I had successfully completed my email confirmation;

EVEN NOW as I text the problem to you, I AM LOGGED IN, and my user name is @ the top of the page in RED, along with "my talk" in RED– as well.

Your user name will be in red until you add something to your user page; your talk page will be in red until someone talks to you - which I'll do now. BencherliteTalk 00:12, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Special:EmailUser/Macguytoo shows that your email confirmation was successful. This means you can mail other users who have email enabled, and they can mail you. Email confirmation is unrelated to the color of page links (which is red for non-existing pages), and it's not required to edit Wikipedia pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:24, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When can a users contributions be deleted?[edit]

Just like to ask who has the power to delete a users contributions so that their edits cant be seen when you enter 'my contributions'. In what circumstances would this happen, i have seen blatant profanity and sick words when entering a users 'my contributions' but on other occassions theres nothing there. Wikipedia administrators have the technical ability to delete pages and in some instances delete individual revisions by a user. Oversighters have the technical ability to "hide" a revision in the logs from every single user except fellow oversighters. Deletion is used when a user creates a page that is deemed unfit to be in the encyclopedia, or when personal information is posted on Wikipedia; it can also be used for many other things. Oversight is used when there are blatantly libelous material in biographies of living persons or when extremely personal information, or information that could in some way harm someone (either physically or someone's reputation) or tamper with a police investigation or when the Wikimedia Foundation feels the information should not be posted anywhere on Wikipedia. Wikipedia images not loading in SeaMonkey[edit]

Sorry if this is something simple. (Like me!) I use SeaMonkey as a browser. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago when Wikipedia images started NOT to load. The rest of the Wikipedia pages look fine--it's just the images. All other web sites seem to load properly. Also, if I try IE or Firefox, everything is fine. It's just SeaMonkey and Wikipedia. I put a "help me" on my page and someone was kind enough to suggest clearing the cache, which I did, but it didn't help. I wonder if there is another cache somewhere that I don't know about. I don't have SeaMonkey, but if it's similar to Firefox, check to see if somehow you (or gremlins) have disabled image loading on Wikipedia. In Firefox, you would check Edit | Preferences | Content tab | Load images automatically | Exceptions. Clicking the exceptions button opens a window that lists the sites the browser thinks you have said not to load images from. See if Wikipedia happens to be in that list. Thank you for the help. It worked! That is, you prompted me to find what in SeaMonkey corresponds to the Firefox Content Tab. In SM, the image manager is under "tools". I'm really annoyed. Yesterday i spent over 5 hours gathering information on a British Wrestler that has been around since 2007. His partner's page is fine on here, but for some reason, his page was deleted.

I dont know how to add things to stop my stuff from being deleted, but i know you guys can get the page back. It's legit, honestly, i did it as a favour to him.

If you could please undelete the page entitled - The Juggernaught (actually spelt that way) You can search all the UK wrestling websites, they'll confirm that he is for real, if you undeleted it i'd really appreciate it, and getting help on how to prevent it being deleted again would be alot better.

(ec)Hey Kevizzle, let me first say sorry your having a tough time, don't worry we all have had pages we worked on deleted. Sadly, it's part of Wikipedia.
To address your concerns, I just took a look at the text, and the main problem is that you didn't provide reliable sources in order to verify what you are saying let alone that he is real. There were 6 sources that were all blogs, which sadly cannot be cited as reliable sources, and there were links to his Myspace page, which are usually inappropriate for an encyclopedic article. How bout this, I can retrieve the contents of the article and paste them into your sandbox titled User:Kevizzle/The Juggernaught, which will allow you to work on the article without anyone bothering you or the page getting deleted. Then when you feel you have improved the article, you can let me know and I'll move it to the mainspace if the concerns have been addressed? article missing[edit]

I created an article yesterday on the financial regulatory authority FIMBRA which is missing. Since I had gone to some lengths to ensure it was accurate and had numerous references (including government Hansard reports) it should not have been deleted under the normal terms. For some reason, the article at FIMBRA doesn't seem to have been created. There may have been a problem that caused this, as it doesn't seem to have been saved. You may want to prepare your article using a wordprocessor, before copying it in as a new article in Wikipedia just in case something unexpected happens. Remember to reference third-party reliable sources when creating your article in order to meet requirements on verifiability and notability, otherwise your article may be deleted. Hi Quantum. The reason others didn't find the article deletion until Gonzo fan2007 is because you stated a different capitalization of the name you actually used, and our deletion log is case sensitive. The deletion log entry is here. If you look at the link provided in the preceding post, you'll see that the basis for deletion, section "A7" of the speedy deletion criteria, allows for speedy deletion of articles on certain topics when they do not assert importance or significance. Our notability standards (see Wikipedia:Notability) have as their touchstone that an article be "the subject of significant treatment in independent, reliable sources". Notability and A7 are not the same but related. The speedy deletion bar is much lower, requiring only an assertion or indication of importance and no actual inclusion of sources, while establishing notability requires that proper sources actually exist. It is therefore very well established consensus that the inclusion of sources that are not clearly problematic (myspace etc., a companies own website, etc.) constitute an implicit assertion of importance for purposes of A7 assessment. The two sources you provided in the article appear reliable and certainly aren't clearly improper. For that reason, I believe the article was patently not a proper speedy deletion candidate and should be restored. I suggest you drop a polite note on the deleting administrator't talk page asking for reinstatement. If that is not fruitful, you have the option of taking the article to Wikipedia:Deletion review, where I think you would prevail in having it restored. That's true but does not mean the article should have been deleted. While they weren't displayed in a references section, they were still shown to be present by the footnote markers present in the article. Every admin knows what that means and it would behoove them to check what references were actually in the article by checking in edit mode. child abuse[edit]

dear sir/madam

I would be Eternally gratefull re- any information reguarding st.mary's catholic boarding school for boys which was located in gravesend,kent,England? of which I had the misfortune to attend from the innocent age of 4 years in 1954 untill my seventh birthday. I believe it was forced to close it's doors due to child abuse!(OF WHICH I HASTEN TO ADD CAME AS NO SUPRISE TO ME) This was only revealed to me whilst visiting the area some twenty years later & discovering that the boarding school had been replaced by a housing new complex!

I am presently residenting in The Haag,in The Netherlands & am phisically challenged (ie since 1991 electric wheelchair-bound) therefore somewhat hindered re- a hands on aproach in my research any qualified advise would be most welcome .Especially with respect to actual media reports/archives between 1954-1975

When you are logged-in, click on the My Preferences link located in the upper, right corner after My Talk and before My Watchlist. Scroll down to the Change Password section and type your new password in the first box, and then type your old password twice in the second and third boxes. Then scroll down to the bottom and hit the Save button. Jack Kemp categories[edit]

I don't understand why these templates add the category like that. Template talk:Nasdaq does say to use {{Nasdaq2}} where you dont want the category. Brochure[edit]

I'm writing an article for the Old Stone House. I stopped by the house a few days ago and picked up a brochure for research. Most of the information I found is not accessible online. (or I just haven't found it yet) How do I source a brochure? It was written by the National Park Service, so it's a RS. Philippe said to source it as a book, but said he wasn't 100% sure and to ask at the ref desk. I've posted questions there before but have not received an answer. I'm creating a new article since the Old Stone is only covered in the Rock Creek article. It deserves its own page because it's a NHRP-listed property. Hi, can anybody tell me how you would go about citing a DVD and I don't mean the actual movie I mean citing the DVD for a DVD section in an article that talks about the editions and the features they have. To the editor of Wikipeida, I am writing to express my interest to adding a page to Wikipedia about one of my fellow colleagues in Radiation Oncology at William Beaumont Hospital. He has both an MD and an MBA and is an up and coming star in the field of Radiation Oncology and is it relates to both clinical research and economics of health care. He also has a special interest in fashion and design. By displaying such a page, I feel that it would encourage other scientifically minded trainees to be both well rounded and strive for success.

About a year (maybe more) ago I was approved for WP:AWB. I never ended up getting around to installing and using it, but I just downloaded the latest version and am about to install it. I just created Category:Fairfax High School (Los Angeles) alumni and want to populate it with people listed at Fairfax_High_School_(Los_Angeles)#Notable_alumni. If you were running Cygwin, you would have the command-line version of unzip, which you could use to test the archive with:
unzip -t filename.zip
If you don't want to install all of a Unix-like compatibility layer like Cygwin, you could install just the UnZip for Windows which is part of GnuWin32. Another option is to try downloading the zip file again. Maybe your copy got corrupted or truncated. Oh, but wait, you said "access denied error." Possibly when you downloaded the file, the file mode makes the file unreadable by you. What version of Windows are you running? I'm not sure how the newer versions of windows handle file modes, but you can probably change it in Windows Explorer or whatever Microsoft is calling its file manager now. You might need to make the file readable by everyone, or at least readable by owner, and make the file owned by you. In Unix (Linux, Cygwin, etc.) this is straightforward, but in Windows I haven't done that in a while so I don't remember how to do it. --Teratornis (talk) 18:04, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am using Vista Home Premium. I just uninstalled and reinstalled my WinZip. I deleted and redownloaded AutoWikiBrowser4310.zip from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=158332&package_id=177317&release_id=590227 . The file seems curiously small at 791KB. General tip: when you get a specific error message from a specific application on a specific operating system, sometimes you can get an explanation by searching on {{Google}} for keywords that include some or all of those items. For example, maybe: "access denied" Vista Home Premium WinZip will find something useful. In my experience, almost all error messages from common applications stimulate people to pose questions on various help sites, and sometimes answers are available. Also, your question would be easier for more people to understand if you showed examples of the links you are talking about. I'm glad it was useful, and I'm especially glad that someone else plowed through the material to find a solution. I just added a bunch of name-anchor {{shortcut}}s to the Editor's index, so we can look up and copy those links faster to paste them into Help desk replies, including WP:EIW#Custom, so it's good to see the link works. (I had discussed adding those shortcuts to the Editor's index with John Broughton (the primary author) months ago, but for some reason we were thinking we would have to make a large number of separate redirect pages, one for each shortcut. Then today I was looking again at how the WP:NOT page implements its per-section shortcuts, and I had one of those "Oh, duh" moments. Only one redirect is necessary to make all the shortcuts one wants to particular anchors on a page. Nominating an article for features status[edit]

I do not know if you can do this but I would like to suggest the article on salvia divinorum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_divinorum

be made a featured article.

A pharmacy professor at Ohio State University said it was worthy of publication as a review article in any scholarly pharmacy journals. The author has done a wonderful job on a tough topic.

When editing a talk page, there used to be a "+" on the "edit this page" tab, and clicking it would automatically start a new topic/section at the end.
