Oil platforms[edit]

Hi. Can please check this article? I think it's too similar to the first reference, but I don´t know your procedures here. In es:WP several parts like intro could be tagged as copyvio. Thanks. --Andreateletrabajo (talk) 03:24, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Double redirect bot[edit]

Is there a double redirect bot. I started looking at my move log and noticed that there don't seem to be any double redirects that are more than a few days old.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:33, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's Xqbot (talk · contribs). GFOLEY FOUR— 03:47, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So that bot will solve double redirects within a few weeks of any page move?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:57, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should, it seems to be active. GFOLEY FOUR— 04:01, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c)Correct, the bot goes through and will fix double redirects within a couple of days depending on the backlog and a couple of other variable. Tiggerjay (talk) 04:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fluid columns for image galleries[edit]

Resolved

Hi -- I just noticed that in the article Armenian Genocide, the image gallery at the bottom is set to a fixed width of 3 images. This looks weird on my screen, as about half of the screen ends up being whitespace. Is there any way to make it where the gallery will place as many images as it can, per row, until the entire width of the screen is filled? That is, I'm looking for something similar to when you do {{reflist|colwidth=30em}} for references, so that it automatically determines how many columns it can make to fill the screen. Can I do this with image galleries? Thanks. ~ Mesoderm (talk) 04:45, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest you look at Template:Gallery, which when using that template will auto-column to your screen size. Feel free to boldly replace the current method on that article with the template. Tiggerjay (talk) 05:21, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you simply take out the perrow= instruction, it will become fluid.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:23, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That was simple :) Thank you! ~ Mesoderm (talk) 05:33, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mysterious background in template[edit]

Resolved

Why does the second group at Template:DramaDesk MusicalOutstandingActor have a background color?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:19, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is a function of the transcluded template: Template:Navbox.Tiggerjay (talk) 05:25, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I did not notice it at Template:TonyAward MusicalLeadActor, but I have been causing this in other templates as well. Thanks.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:40, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The shading on it is very, very subtle on most monitors.Tiggerjay (talk) 05:45, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

She is not there because you have not added her. Also I have not, and millions of other editors have not. If you have a reliable source which says that she was in that film, please go ahead an edit the article to add her. I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 3.5 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. Removin the Wikipedia Tag from the top[edit]

K G Suresh (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

Dear,

I just want to confirm is that how to remove the wikipedia tag from the top head of my wikipedia profile. As since last few days a tag is reflecting on top of my profile to make some desired changes. But i hardly want any such updation to be made. The much possible updates I could have done, is all there. But still no clues of how to remove the tag attached by you. And this provides a bad look into my profile.

Please do suggest me what all has to be done.

Regards -- K G Suresh — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.160.70.87 (talk) 12:02, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, that tag is appropriate. The article needs a lot of work to make it acceptable and you should not be contributing, except to add comments to the talk page. It will take quite some time to address all the problems, possibly months. --SPhilbrickT 13:14, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) I think you have misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia. K G Suresh is not your Wikipedia profile but is a encyclopedia article about a journalist. That article is in need of several improvements in order to meet our standards. Please read the notice at the top of the article very carefully and follow the advice provided in the links in that notice. However, since you seem to be the subject of the article, you are strongly discouraged from editing it yourself due to a conflict of interest. Astronaut (talk) 13:19, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RE: editing the article title[edit]

Thank you so much for your assistance. I have begun an article for Robert R. Bergt but would like to change his name to simply Robert Bergt....or should I simply write another article with the altered name? Some will look him up as Robert Bergt, others as Robert R. Bergt. Any assistance would be appreciated. Dihaskell (talk) 14:19, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved the page to Robert Bergt. However, anyone searching for the previous title (Robert R. Bergt) will be automatically forwarded to the correct page. I hope this helps. TNXMan 14:24, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spamming Inquiry[edit]

Hello!

I've been updating some Wiki pages of musicians that the magazine I'm interning for has interviewed, in hopes of providing Wiki users with some useful and interesting articles. However, the site is giving me a warning that I might be trying to spam it, which I certainly am not trying to do. Is there any way to prevent this?

best, Emily

Eah09 (talk) 15:12, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please heed the warnings. Do not arbitrarily add external links to websites you are affiliated with. You are not 'updating' pages, you are simply adding links to information not specified, not readily accessible, and has commercial value to you or to the people you are affiliated with. Yes, this constitutes as spamming.
If you wish to add useful information to the articles in question uncovered by the said interviews, it's better if you expand the article with the new information and then use the link as a reference (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners). Do not simply add links. Wikipedia is not a link directory and it can not be used to promote anything.
Please see our guide on How not to be a spammer.-- ObsidinSoul 16:48, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You should probably also read about our conflict of interest policy as well. If somebody at the magazine has given you the job of editing articles about subjects connected to the magazine, they may have given you a job which is very difficult, or even impossible, for you within the rules of Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 18:49, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RefToolbar extra sapce[edit]

I've had this problem for a while now, and it appears that I'm not the only one. What generally happens is that upon using the RefToolbar to insert one of the templates, a space is inserted in a seemingly random location within the edit box. However, from personal experience, it appears that if you do this multiple times within the same section or article, the space will almost always appear in the same (but wrong) location. I've taken to using the "Show changes" to find that sapce before saving, but it is probably a problem that ought to be fixed, as it seems to be affecting other editors: ex. here, it is obvious that RefToolbar was used, and a space appeared inside the word "from". Brambleclawx 15:14, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Might be better if you post this in Wikipedia:Village pump (technical).-- ObsidinSoul 15:20, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I brought a book, The Touch of the Unseen, Answers to Prayer, by John Dougall and Co., cir 1899. Printed by Dodd, Mead & Company. I can not find any on the internet about it. Can you help?

Inside it says: in Answer to Prayer. There are references and stories from: The Right Rev. The Bishop of Ripon, The Rev. Dr. Culyer, The Rev. Dr. John Watson, ("Ian MaClaren")The Rev. Canon Know Little, Mr. William Quarrier, Mr. L.K. The Rev. H. Price Hughes, The Rev. Dr. Clifford, and The Dean of Salisbury.

Please contact me [email redacted]

Deleting a page[edit]

How do I completely delete this page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ahen18/Reservoir_Media_Management, so that it does not show up in a Google search for "Reservoir Media Management wiki"?Ahen18 (talk) 19:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Add {{db-user}} at the top of the page. Note also that I have tagged Reservoir Media Management for deletion as too promotional. – ukexpat (talk) 19:07, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please be aware that it will still show up for a short time in a Google search until Google updates.--SPhilbrickT 19:53, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Odd reference format[edit]

Depth of field has some odd referencing. The ref tags seem to be notes but the references are done like [[#CITEREFMerklinger1992| ... . Is this a standard referencing pattern? RJFJR (talk) 21:24, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This kind of reference is normally generated by templates such as {{sfn}}, but the template documentation describes how to do sfn-compatible reference links directly. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:04, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You'll see that in the references section of the article, Template:Wikicite has been used, with named references as in the example you gave. - David Biddulph (talk) 07:03, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

text color on wiki edit[edit]

I attempted to edit a page of National holidays, commemoration and the link showed in blue text but the commemoration showed in red. Why and how do I change so all the test is in blue?

Here is the Wiki page and my edit was Native American Heritage Month http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal_observances — Preceding unsigned comment added by SherrieNoble (talkcontribs) 23:43, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's because there is no article on that subject. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:18, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Red link. There is a National American Indian Heritage Month article. But it needs work. Maybe Native American Heritage Month could be a redirect to it. --Teratornis (talk) 06:30, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
