Template:Rfc used incorrectly. Do you know how to fix it?[edit]

Do you know much about how the RfC transclusion template works? I used Template:Rfc to create an RfC and transcluded it to Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Maths, science, and technology, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Society, sports, and culture, and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Economy, trade, and companies. The problem is I should have included only a brief summary. But I put too much in. How to I make the bot just show my first paragraph in the list, and the rest of the text on the RfC itself? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:06, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a message at User talk:Chris G, who operates the RFC bot which does the automatic copying. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:53, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Separate it into two comments. The bot only takes the first comment (i.e. it takes everything upto the first signature). --Chris 07:22, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! That did the trick. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:01, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 3.9 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 10:41, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask this question at the miscellaneous section of the reference desk. This page is for questions about using Wikipedia. And yes, without a picture or a highly detailed description there would be no way to answer your question.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:35, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Who do I talk to about User:Marcus Qwertyus conduct? He is moving the names of dozens of article titles in minor edits to reflect the Democratic Party. Is this right?--Doug Coldwell talk 13:26, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can see, the renaming is merely changing (USA) to (United States) in the titles, but it isn't clear why the Democratic Party is mentioned in the edit summaries. You might ask the editor on his user talk page? - David Biddulph (talk) 13:47, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

why has this page been deleted? can someone please respond back to me? All content was real and valid and not subject to the parameters listed for deletion.[edit]

I took a look at it and it did meet the parameters for deletion. You can look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spirofication to see the reasoning. If you disagree, the forum is WP:DRV, but it would be a waste of time. It clearly does not belong here.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:38, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted the repost and responded on their talkpage with a little more detail. I think they're confusing speedy deletion with a deletion discussion. Acroterion (talk) 13:39, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all for that, and especially thank you for not shooting the messenger. "My mind was holding large discourse with me; 'Fool, why goest thou to thy certain doom?' 'Wretch, tarrying again? And if Creon hears this from another, must not thou smart for it?'", and so on. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:28, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've run across many of these new-articles-as-questions-about-the-deletion-of-a-previous version: my policy is to reply on the quetioner's talkpage, but you need to be able to see the deleted content to give a useful response: this page is as good as any to attract an administrator's attention, so your mind's discourse, large or small, was correct. Is a Disambiguation page allowed to contain redlinks?[edit]

I've just found a disambiguation page that contains only one bluelink, all the others are red. I'm wondering if such a disambiguation page really needs to exist at all if only one of the subjects listed is actually notable enough to have an article? Roger (talk) 18:52, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An article I created has been deleted. Also who can I complain to?[edit]

I and another contributor created an article about a famous, notable person in the Muslim community. An article about him had been deleted 2 years ago. The article I made has just been deleted, and the reason "G4. Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion." was given.

A few questions. Firstly, the rule states "A sufficiently identical and unimproved copy, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion.[3]". The article I created was clearly not an identical copy, as I had no access to the originally deleted article. Also, since the deletion of the first article, the person has become much more notable. So how can it possibly be "sufficiently identical/unimproved", if circumstances have changed?

Secondly, is there some form of appeal process for this? My "contest for speedy deletion" was seemingly ignored.

Thirdly, who can I complain to about this? It's no hidden fact that many in the Muslim community believe the people editing Wikipedia are mostly anti-Islamic Jews (not saying I personally believe this). However I certainly think an anti-Islamic agenda affected the decision to delete the article, and as such, I'd like to speak to some Wikipedia higher-ups about it. Any advice?

Very very disappointed. I'll be letting the Muslim forum that suggested this addition that Wikipedia ever increasingly marginalises Muslims and participates in such bigotry and yes has the cheek to lie about being "neutral".

Leaf Green Warrior (talk) 19:03, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answering your second question first, the appeals process is Wikipedia:Deletion review. Unless Wikipedia:Notability (people) is met by inclusion of two or more idependent in-depth articles by Reliable Sources (RS), it is not unlikely that articles would be the same, relying on a subject's own site, employer(s), blogs, and social media. My advice would be start with the best sources, picking the most important items from each. Anyone may post complaints at User talk:Jimbo Wales. Dru of Id (talk) 19:24, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There's Wikipedia:Deletion review but make sure you're up on our notability policy. I'd drop the "mostly anti-Islamic Jews" angle, too, even if you don't personally believe it. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 19:20, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can remember him meeting at least 2 of the criteria for notability. 1) he is a founder of an important UK Islamic institute 2) He is a very frequent and well known presenter on Peace TV and Islam Channel 3) He has also made many other appearances in miscellaneous venues (e.g. off the top of my head he was a guest speaker on the Deen Show) 4) He is a key lecturer in the education academy he founded 5) He is a renowned public speaker, one only needs to do a quick search on YouTube for his talks and speeches which are given in front of audiences of thousands and are also televised. 6) Google his name in speech marks (so you get pages that list his exact full name) and you get 1m+ hits

.. yeah this wasn't done for a "notability" reason, more like a "he's only famous to Muslims so who cares" reason.

Sorry, I'm angry. Leaf Green Warrior (talk) 19:26, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at the earlier version, and I agree the two versions are not identical, although there is some overlap. The prior article was much more developed, had more details and more references, yet was deleted because there wasn't sufficient evidence of notability.
You claim he is more notable now than back then, but I see nothing in your userspace draft to indicate what he has done since 2010 to become more notable. I see only one reference which might qualify as a reliable source, and that is from 2009.
As for complaints, interesting question, but I'm not sure we even have proper complaint forum per se.
If you want to contest the deletion, the proper place is WP:DRV, but that would be a waste of time, the version in your user space is not close to being acceptable as is.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:32, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So can I post in WP:DRV to appeal against the decision of non-notability that was made 2 years ago? I find the fact that he is deemed "non-notable" absolutely preposterous (see the reasons I gave in the post directly above yours). Thanks for your advice Leaf Green Warrior (talk) 19:36, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As to the previous articles, Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles may interest you. Dru of Id (talk) 19:43, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just as a suggestion after following this discussion around for the past few days, I would recommend creating a succinct list of reasons why Abdur Raheem Green is notable with links to your sources. It will really lend more strength to any discussion. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 20:45, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. However, suggesting that it shouldn't be readers who correct articles is incorrect: anyone can edit most articles, and any "editors" we have all started out as readers too. They changed from reader to editor as soon as they made their first correction or addition to an article. Brammers (talk/c) 19:46, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I get one read of any wiki page, a second read results in an error.[edit]

I can read any number of wiki pages from my work PC without issue, but if I attemp to return to, or reload, any already-visited page I get the following error:

Deleting my temporary internet files corrects the issue only to the extent that I can again read any page one time. I found nothing searching the help archives here. The PC runs Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE8. Would anyone have any ideas? I do not, by the way, experience this problem on my home PC which is running the same software. METAL-HALIDE LAMPS[edit]

HELLO

I found your Information on METAL-HALIDE LAMPS Totally 100% almost unbeleivable, wow what great information you have assembled.

I couldn't have got any better.

One thing I would like to find out is how many watts a 400 watt Metal-Halide yard light on pole would require {consume?}

We have many power outages here and want to use it on a portable generator when power is out. My guess would be maybe 400 watts at 110 volts, but I would rather trust you the experts.

Thanking you very kindly for all the amazing useful information.

My best warm regards to you all there.

Done. Quite unusual indeed. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 02:22, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming the lamp is accurately named, it should indeed consume 400 Watts of power, and would draw 3.64 Amps of current from a 110 Volt power source. If you've any more questions it would be best to ask at the Science reference desk, as this page is for questions about Wikipedia itself.
