September 10[edit]

Commercial external links[edit]

The second and third external links in the article Body worn video appear to be commercial in nature. Should they be removed? --Librsh (talk) 01:16, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Librsh:, thank you for bringing attention to this. Yes, they are commercial links and I have removed them. You can read more about what links should be kept or not at WP:EL. Dismas|(talk) 05:20, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is the help desk for questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia. You might try asking at the reference desk for information sources about the local climate and weather. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 04:54, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do I locate an entry that was being reviewed by your editors?[edit]

It was in second or third draft and I don't know how to find it or find out if all of the changes I made have put in line for approval and posting. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dobbsy11 (talkcontribs) 05:19, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

are you talking about Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Steven Gaydos? At the top of the page is a link that says "contributions" which will show all of your contributions. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 05:23, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And just a note... Since you've contributed as well, you are an editor too! Wikipedia belongs to you as much as it belongs to any of the rest of us. Dismas|(talk) 05:44, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tracking progress of wikipedia article[edit]

Hi, I just wrote an article today but I am not sure if I have sent through the article as I cannot find it again. What is the process after I hit 'save' how do I know if its up or if it got rejected. Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ss82732 (talkcontribs) 06:47, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Whenever you hit "Save", your work gets saved. However, Draft:UniPhi_Australia_Pty_Ltd is not an article, it is a draft article. It is not acceptable as an article, as it does nothing to establish that the company is notable, in the special sense in which that word is used here. Maproom (talk) 07:16, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In this edit you deleted the header which included the button allowing you to submit the draft for review when it is ready. I've put the header back for you. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:03, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see that, despite the advice from @Maproom:, the draft (without any improvement) has been submitted for review. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:01, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
no Declined. @Ss82732: It is well worth taking advice, especially when it is correct. With work this is likely to be acceptbale, biut it will require effort. Fiddle Faddle 10:46, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not yet fixed[edit]

It's been two weeks since the "No next page" has been reported! Why has it not been fixed yet? The page listing the articles doesn't even go all the way -- it stops short of a full column. I can't believe this is something anybody would want.67.242.43.187 (talk) 12:37, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably refers to this earlier thread, which includes a link to the bug report. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:45, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Company logo on Cambridge Imaging Systems won't show[edit]

I am trying to update the company logo on the page Cambridge Imaging Systems

Previously, the logo updated at 09:24, 9 August 2013 showed in the infobox of the page. It was called Cambridge Imaging Systems logo, black and white.png.

Today I uploaded a new logo at 14:02, 10 September 2014. It is called Cambridge Imaging Systems logo and logotype, white background.png.

In the Infobox code, I replaced the file name. It now reads

{{Infobox company | name = Cambridge Imaging Systems <gallery> | logo = Cambridge_Imaging_Systems_logo_and_logotype,_white_background.png </gallery> | type = Privately held | genre = ....

However, the new logo does not show when the update is saved. The infobox just begins with the mention "Privately held" and the logo is ignored.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for help.

You didn't just replace the logo file name, you put <gallery> tags around it, so that's why it wasn't working. I've cured it for you. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:51, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

important matter concerning my band page[edit]

Someone delete the page for my band and I'd like to contact him to learn the reasons for this as it is not quite clear. We are inside all the guidelines to have a band page in wikipedia! Thanx— Preceding unsigned comment added by LefterisGermenlis (talkcontribs)

@LefterisGermenlis:, without the name of the band, there's no way for us to guess at why it was deleted. Most articles deleted are usually because they do not meet our notability requirements, or the article was too promotional. If you can reply here with the name, then an administrator may be able to provide further information. CaptRik (talk) 17:28, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That would be Until rain, which included the information (and I quote) The album is OUT IN STORES!!. Please see this guidance on notability of bands and this on conflict of interest, and the harsh but honest "Nobody cares about your garage band". --Orange Mike | Talk 17:33, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Same guy from Crosswind (band)? InedibleHulk (talk) 17:34, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently (I haven't compared all personnel) a different band out of the same town and scene; different accounts editing the articles. I'd say assume good faith. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:43, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, good faith. Just Googled the username and found a profile with four bands, to see which one it might be. You beat me to Until Rain (same band, different article title). The other two were apparently never created. Could have been a different Lefteris Germenlis, I suppose. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:49, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@LefterisGermenlis:, last point - whilst the notability issues may, or may not be solvable I can see by clicking on the redlink above that one of the deletions was because of an unambiguous copyright infringement. This is always completely unacceptable. CaptRik (talk) 18:01, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. CaptRik (talk) 19:09, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are the victim of a well known scam. Do not pay the money they are likely to demand to deal with this. Google your phone and the message and you will discover ways to handle this problem.
Wikipedia has not locked your phone, Nor has the FBI. Fiddle Faddle 19:20, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

American Flyers Flight 280[edit]

While reading the story about this crash I realized you have the number of the aircraft wrong. American_Flyers_Flight_280, the correct number of the aircraft is N183H. I worked for that company when the plane crashed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.61.170.238 (talk) 20:52, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for spotting that and reporting it, I've confirmed the flight number using one of the article's references and fixed the issue. CaptRik (talk) 21:02, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
