September 11[edit]

flickr and cc 2.0[edit]

Hi, I added a pic from flickr, with attribution, to the Christine Rankin article after uploading it to wiki commons. My reading of CC 2.0 is that it's ok to use flickr/CC 2.0 pics on wikimedia provided you give proper attribution; however the photo was soon deleted as a copyright violation. As a general rule, are we allowed to use pics from flickr with a CC 2.0 license? What about cropping them? This is the pic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nznationalparty/1308724579/ and the CC 2.0 description: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/ MaxBrowne (talk) 00:16, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CC 2.0 is ok, but not, as in this case, if non-commercial use and no derivatives is specified (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0). SpinningSpark 00:51, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"CC 2.0" is not a specific license. That could refer to any Creative Commons license released as version 2.0. Commons only accepts CC BY 2.0 and CC BY-SA 2.0 images from Flickr. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 04:46, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Electrical[edit]

how we can sellect suitable wire size for an 11 KW /220v cooker — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.97.56.200 (talk) 08:59, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This page is for help using Wikipedia, but as a qualified electrical engineer I would recommend that if you don't know how to do it already you should not be wiring up your cooker. Your might burn down your house. SpinningSpark 09:24, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Siege of Bastogne[edit]

Reference help requested. This is my first time with a reference, and I am not sure exactly what I messed up. Thanks, El O'el Cooter (talk) 15:41, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the error message, the word "help" was in blue, indicating that it was a wikilink. The link went to Help:CS1 errors#text ignored. The problem was simply that you had missed out the text "url=" before the url. It has now been cured. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:02, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images and embittered IP addresses[edit]

User:66.225.185.43 recently added a rather unnecessary non-free image to the Raymond Blackburn article which I removed. No fair use rationale was provided and I could see no basis for there ever being one (it was the poster for a film that Blackburn had been involved in attempting to ban, so its connection to the article subject was tenuous at best). The IP user got very upset, launching a borderline personal attack on me (whatever, I have a thick hide and don't care what some kid in Canada thinks about me) and accusing me of "purging" Wikipedia and Wikimedia (which I don't even use). I'm pretty certain this isn't the right place to put this and I know it is pointless to block IP addresses but (a) I can't find anywhere for reporting breaches of fair use and (b) I really can't be bothered with the whole WP:AN/I rigmarole as I don't think it's important enough. Still I just want to get this out there so as people can be aware of this potentially illegal breach of copyright as I might not always be on hand to remove the image and don't particularly want to get into an edit war with an IP. In saying that if anybody can point me in the direction of a place specifically to raise the alarm about misuse of free images that would be good. Cheers. Hello, Hannie081202. In the time you took to post this question here (on the wrong page: this is for questions about editing Wikipedia) you could have googled for the answer. --ColinFine (talk) 21:20, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please do your own homework.
Welcome to Wikipedia. Your question appears to be a homework question. I apologize if this is a misinterpretation, but it is our aim here not to do people's homework for them, but to merely aid them in doing it themselves. Letting someone else do your homework does not help you learn nearly as much as doing it yourself. Please attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself first. If you need help with a specific part of your homework, feel free to tell us where you are stuck and ask for help. If you need help grasping the concept of a problem, by all means let us know.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:40, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
