You need to get the facts correct. You need to watch the documentary Dark Legancyll Then rewrite the truth in place of the fiction you currently have displayed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.63.16.43 (talk) 00:10, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

dale Earnhardt[edit]

The roller coaster at carowinds also called intimidator debuted before intimidator 305. I have ridden both. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.75.121 (talk) 09:06, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The sources for the opening date of the Carowinds Intimidator seem to support the March 27, 2010 opening date. The opening date for the Intimidator 305, however, has no source. So it's quite possible that this is the incorrect date. I've tagged it as needing a proper source. If you know of an appropriate source then you can edit the article to correct the date and to provide your source for verification purposes. If you need help finding appropriate sourcing, you might consider asking here. Thanks for bringing up this issue. -Thibbs (talk) 12:26, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: Wackyike asserts that the date for the Intimidator 305 is correct based on information from the Roller Coaster Database (previously linked in a footer to the infobox and again under External Links). I've turned this source into an inline citation now, so it looks like the only way to dispute these dates is to come up with a superior source or sources that back up the correct dates (if indeed the listed dates are incorrect). You should probably use the article talk page for further content discussions. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 20:32, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

how to create a new entry[edit]

Hi

Please can someone tell me how we can create a new entry. We are the Harbour owners of Sutton harbour In Plymouth and would like to upload information regarding the history to this location and what is there currently. I can see how to edit existing pages but need to create a new one.

thanks C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlottemalcolm (talkcontribs) 12:12, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is your first article, you might be interested in going through the steps in a slow and systematic way. Instructions can be found at Wikipedia:Your first article. But it is also very important that you should be aware of Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest Guideline (specifically this part). Writing an article on yourself, on your business, or on your friends is usually a recipe for disaster. There is a high likelihood that your article will be viewed with extreme suspicion by other editors and it may be deleted outright. A much better strategy is to request that an article be written by others. From your question I'm not sure if Sutton Harbour is more of a business or more of a geographical feature, but if it's more like a business then you can request an article here and if it's more like a geographical feature then you can request it here. -Thibbs (talk) 12:35, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DGM Ltd[edit]

I am concerned at the vast inaccuracies in the page on DGM Ltd - the company that I run with Robert Fripp, of which I am a co-founder, and 50% shareholder. O a personal level, my name appears nowhere in the article and the article wrongly gives credit to Robert Fripp for much of my work. The article also cites many artists which DGM no longer handle, while completely omitting The Vicar - one of only three artists who were currently handle. There are also a number of other inaccuracies, For example, the article says that our logo is the celtic knot that appears on the album Discipline. It is an entirely different design.

I am not sure about the process for making corrections, but the article as currently configured is grossly inaccurate. I am happy to correct the text, if someone will show me how.

David Singleton DGM Ltd.DavidGRSingleton (talk) 12:28, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe @DavidGRSingleton: is referring to the article Discipline Global Mobile -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:47, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Our articles present what has been published in reliable sources. In checking a few of the sources used in the article, they present DGM as Fripp's project. Are there other sources that you can provide that clarify the involvement of others? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:59, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors/Cite error group refs without references[edit]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Eastern News Agency (talkcontribs)

the request by @Eastern News Agency: appears to be related to News agencies in Bangladesh. The ref tag error there has been fixed, but the article still needs a lot of TLC. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:14, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've softblocked Eastern News Agency (perhaps on the generous side given that the account's only substantive edits are to promote itself using cut-and-paste from company websites...) BencherliteTalk 14:31, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me to Make "Ismah" a Featured Article[edit]

Dear friends, May I ask to help me make this article as a featured article? --Salman mahdi (talk) 13:43, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Featured Article Criteria are listed at WP:FACR. You can request collaboration with other editors by following the steps listed at WP:CO. Good luck! -Thibbs (talk) 14:24, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Find out reason behind error[edit]

I made this edit. However, nothing is changed in the display of footnotes, especially the part where I added 'trans_title' and 'language', while changing the date format. I have tried the sandbox by pasting the citation there, which showed no problems. When I copied the entire source content from "User:HYH.124/China–Iceland relations", the same problem exists. This shows that something must have affected my entire article draft to be like this. Requiring assistance. HYH.124 (talk) 14:34, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@HYH.124: The reference named "hist" is defined twice, once in the "History" section and then again in the "Bilateral relations" section. The software is using the first definition and is ignoring your edit to the second one. The solution is to delete one of the definitions. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:45, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help, John of Reading! I wasn't aware of this but I know about the double citation definition. HYH.124 (talk) 14:50, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Clicking the Cite button on the editing toolbar will give you an Error check button that will reveal these types of errors. --  Gadget850 talk 15:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A board for discussing "polemic materials"[edit]

According to WP:POLEMIC, very divisive or offensive material not related to encyclopedia editing should not be in one's user page. Is there any board where I can ask if a userpage is having such a problem? Mhhossein (talk) 16:52, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mhhossein. Step 1 would be to discuss the material with the editor. If you are not satisfied then take it to WP:ANI. --NeilN talk to me 17:00, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
NeilN: I have noticed this with interest. If offensive material on a userpage contains general (not personally directed) religious intolerance and the user is not willing to discuss, is AN/I still the right place to take the matter? ~ P-123 (talk) 17:50, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
P-123, yes if you feel the content is disruptive as ANI deals with disruptive editors. In the past, I've simply removed the material if the editor is inactive or nominated the page at WP:MFD if it's simply advertising/spam. --NeilN talk to me 18:09, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Silent ping[edit]

Resolved

It is becoming a custom to start each reply with a link to the person replied to, as in the previous section. I, too, find the notification useful, but I usually don't want to distract other readers, just as I don't always start each reply with a name in real life conversations. Can someone therefore please reply to me with something like :[[SebastianHelm| ]] I agree. ~~~~, so I can see if it works? Thanks! — Sebastian 18:29, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you want a "user:" in there for that to work. BencherliteTalk 18:39, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, of course. Thanks, it worked! — Sebastian 18:43, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@SebastianHelm: i prefer the "ping" template. I think that both methods require that the NOTIFIED_USER_NAME and a fresh signature happen in the same save. (if you mistype someone's user name and go back and just fix their name, the ping doesn't work) -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:47, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
FYI {{ping|name}} hasn't worked when other editors try and "ping" me for months - even when they follow TRPOD's instructions. But that may be something to do with my setup. {{yo|name}}, {{u|name}} and {{reply to|name}} are other options when trying to "ping" another editor. MarnetteD|Talk 18:55, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, MarnetteD, but none of these is silent. Also those that aren't simply redirects to {{ping}} don't address the Pen's concern. As for the problems with mention, it's a known issue (see phabricator:T72329). — Sebastian 19:14, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This one worked @SebastianHelm:. I am not sure what you mean by silent. Admittedly my understanding of how any of this works is limited but, without the red dot, I don't know how anyone would get the message that you had mentioned them. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer your quesstion. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 19:58, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, MarnetteD. My original question has been answered: The :[[User:SebastianHelm| ]] ~~~~ worked. It's just that, as the Pen points out, there is an advantage in the template, too. But that's a different topic; I may take that up later, if I get around to it. — Sebastian 20:10, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you properly illustrated the doom aspect of his name (presumably in the form of some grade or other on a school paper). Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 1 Adar 5775 01:45, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Good point, @TheRedPenOfDoom:. As demonstrated by yours truly above, it can also easily happen that the "User:" gets forgotten. But the two functions don't have to go together. We could have a template that does what {{ping}} does, only silently so. (We could also add a parameter to ping, but that feels like putting the cart before the horse, since the silent functionality is more basic.)Sebastian 19:00, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question about free internet content[edit]

is it possible that free internet content might one day replace textbooks? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.62.120.166 (talk) 21:30, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hard to say for certain. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. For more information on this topic you might be interested in our article on Open access. -Thibbs (talk) 23:16, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

speeches[edit]

Is there A description of demonstration speeches that can be helpful in my research — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.79.23.189 (talk) 22:52, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That rather depends on the nature of your research. We have an article on demonstrations that might be helpful to you. We also have an article on Public speaking. I hope those can provide a basic starting point for your research. -Thibbs (talk) 23:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The reference desk may help you find resources within and externally to Wikipedia. you can also try digging through the category system Category:Speeches. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:37, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Art of Manliness might be able to assist you! [1] But yeah, it's best to pose these questions to refdesk in the future. People are very helpful there. Entertaining too. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 1 Adar 5775 01:48, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On this day help[edit]

Hi. I've looked everywhere but I can't see if it's possible to view the "on this day" section of Wikipedia via the iPhone app. Is this actually possible? Many thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.151.119.7 (talk) 23:10, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Some sections are removed from Main Page for mobile users, but only from that page. If it's transcluded elsewhere, for example currently at User:Liangent/Main Page, then you should see all sections. Maybe we should have a more easily accessible page which simply transcludes the main page. For "On this day" you can see a version at Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries.
