November 20[edit]

User page is old copy of article[edit]

The user page of User:Thomasjones13579 seems to be a copy of Hong Kong from a few years ago, complete with GA icon. The user himself only edited for a few days in 2013, and hasn't been back since. I am unsure of whether having an old version of an article there is against any policy. It seems that at the least, it could confuse readers looking for the real article. Should there be a "this is a user page" type of template at the top, or should it be left alone? Or something else? — Gorthian (talk) 01:28, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Judging from the edit comments, the user just cut & pasted a particularly large article to see how WP would cope with a 1MB+ diff. I think it's pretty harmless, actually, but if you think there's a risk, feel free to be bold and reset/blank it. (Or replace it with a soft redirect to Hong Kong, with the edit comment something like "Copy of Hong Kong was getting stale.") The user can always revert it if they reappear. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 02:08, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! — Gorthian (talk)

Link to an existing article shows up as red on another page[edit]

On the article about Shah Turab ul Haq, the link for Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi shows up as a redlink even though the article has existed for a long time. I tried to directly copy-paste the spelling and the link is still red. I'm looking at this and I honestly can't find what's wrong, nor do I know what to term this problem as exactly. Why is the link still red? MezzoMezzo (talk) 03:41, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MezzoMezzo: the ) character at the end is part of the link, and the title containing it doesn't exist. Pppery 03:44, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pppery: How embarrassing...thanks for the careful eye! MezzoMezzo (talk) 03:46, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing "edits needing review"[edit]

Is there a way for a non-admin editor with no special rights to indicate that "edits needing review" in a contribution list have been reviewed?

Many of an IP editor's edits are marked in their contributions page as "needing review." These are not generally protected pages. Some of the edits are fine, others problematic. Is it possible to indicate that this, for example, has been looked at, and is ok? The IP was mentioned at ANI today and is likely to draw some attention. I'd like to help clean up the mess, and avoid duplication of effort. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:08, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi BlackcurrantTea, Yes, there is a way for a non-admin editor with no special rights to indicate that "edits needing review" in a contribution list have been reviewed. But I would rather suggest that you should apply for the pending changes reviewer flag at WP:PERM and review the edits. Lourdes 05:58, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Lourdes: There is no current way to review singular edits to a page. We do not have that turned on here. The only thing that does is give you access to that patrol function which has nothing to do with what the OP wants to do. --Majora (talk) 06:14, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Majora hi. I presumed the editor wanted assistance in reviewing pending changes of the IP. Should have confirmed that. Thanks for the note. Lourdes 06:17, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Majora's right - these aren't pending changes. I wanted to review single edits, and remove the "needing review" flag if there's nothing wrong. Oh well. It was worth a try. Thanks, Lourdes and Majora. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 06:48, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am looing for the time in your city / compared to where I live in Lancaster, California U.S.A - right now it is: 3:38 a.m. What is the Time in: Vologda Please!.[edit]

Vologda, Russia is 11 hours ahead of Los Angeles, CA. -- Rrburke (talk) 12:36, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) @Steve F:, the Help Desk is for questions about editing Wikipedia. General questions should be asked at the Reference Desk. Having said that, Los Angeles is at UTC-8, while Vologda is at UTC+3, so it's 11 hours ahead. Rojomoke (talk) 12:39, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Googling "what times is it in XYZ" works. (I often use it to determine the time for other states before phone to make sure I don't call during lunch.) RJFJR (talk) 15:16, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where does it explain nobots[edit]

I just see for the first time {{nobots}} at the top of someone's talk page. What's the "WP:" page where I can see what that is/does? SlightSmile 15:05, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template:nobots redirects to Template:Bots. Does that page help? RJFJR (talk) 15:14, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That is helpful. Thanks. Also I changed the nowiki tag in my original message above with the Tl template as explained here. SlightSmile 23:45, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Saskatoon page query[edit]

I wanted to contact Wikipedia about the Saskatoon page, which appears to have a glaring inaccuracy. It reports over 80% of the population is "European". What!!! Did the French or British or Russians recently begin a colonizing campaign the media failed to report?

Presumably, the statistics refer to "descent" a rather racist concept but at least a little clearer than calling Caucasian Canadians Europeans.

This page is really for queries about using Wikipedia. Your query would be better handled at Talk:Saskatoon. Britmax (talk) 15:41, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Further, this probably refers to the table in the demographics section where multiple ethnic origins are mentioned. I think it would be clear to the reader that 'descent' was implied. But as above, if there are still concerns, please raise them at the TP. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 15:47, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Barnstar[edit]

On November 19, 2016, someone removed a barnstar that was awarded to me for my work in updating and adding citations to the Image Awards and Billboard Music Awards. I worked tirelessly and heavily of making the awards feel complete. It took me 9 months to complete both, but the person who put it there was a non-confirmed user. Is that why it got taken down. Eurocus47 (talk) 16:24, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The 'someone' who removed the barnstar was in fact yourself with this edit. Eagleash (talk) 16:28, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thanks, didn't know that I did that. Eurocus47 (talk) 18:10, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

deleted page[edit]

Hi there, I created a page for Ben Davies (American Actor) and it was deleted yesterday. I understand why it was deleted, however I would love to get the content that I created on the page. If it is possible to send me all the content on that page, that would be great.

If you contact the administrator who deleted the page, they may be able to eMail the content to you. Eagleash (talk) 20:39, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nicolecrumbley, you can sign your comments automatically using four tildes ~~~~. The admin you need to contact is Samwalton9 Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:40, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
just noticed that this was posted by a now-blocked sock Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that this list is out of date and there is a slightly more up to date list linked on the page, but does the toolserver have something that can automatically generate an up-to-date list, this does not seem impractical for there is this tool but only gives you the option of one language, I want a tool that can generate a list like the one linked above. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 23:54, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
