April 3[edit]

Adding Image[edit]

I am creating a page about an original production. I am trying to upload the original artwork for the production, which I created. I keep getting an error alert about copywright laws - and then when I try to follow the links, it keeps bringing me to code languages.

Help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edenmeyer11 (talkcontribs) 00:18, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Edenmeyer11: If it is for User:Edenmeyer11/sandbox/TIGRESS OF CACHTICE please do not attempt to upload it at this time. Any artwork would be copyrighted and can only exist here under our fair use policy. Per that policy, seen here: WP:NFCC, fair use images can only exist in mainspace not in drafts. Once the file is accepted for publication I would be happy to assist you in uploading the image. You can either message me only talk page or file a request at WP:Files for upload. --Majora (talk) 00:26, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bellerose Belgium page[edit]

Hi

I'm working for Bellerose and I would like to update our page. I've done it twice but your people always remain it to the old one. How can I change our page and be allowed to ?

Thanks a lot, Amina from Bellerose — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aminabell (talkcontribs) 09:59, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Maproom has answered at the User:Aminabell's talk page: User talk:Aminabell#page Bellerose. --CiaPan (talk) 13:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hello, Aminabell. I'm afraid you are making the very common mistake of supposing that there is some connection between Wikipedia ande marketing. There is not, and promotion of any kind is strongly opposed. Please understand that Bellerose Belgium is not your company's page, your company has no control whatever over its contents, and Wikipedia is not in fact particularly interested in anything that your company says or wants to say about itself: it is only interested in what people unconnected with the company have published about it in reliable sources.
Having said that, of course we welcome your assistance in improving the article and correcting anything which is incorrect. But as you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly. As suggested in that link (in the previous sentence), you should limit your contribution to making suggestions on the article's talk page Talk:Bellerose Belgium. You can improve the chances of somebody picking up your suggestions by:
  • Making them precise ("Please change xxxxx to yyyy")
  • Making them neutral (no marketing speak, no evaluative claims)
  • Providing a published source (preferably one independent of the company) for any claims in them
  • Adding {{edit request}} (with the double curly brackets) to your suggestion, to put it on a list seen by more editors.
Also, as Herostratus explained on your user talk page, if you are in any sense paid for editing here, you must declare this according to WP:PAID. --ColinFine (talk) 13:57, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

youtube as reference[edit]

What are the wikipedia guidelines on citing youtube videos? Alligators1974 (talk) 12:00, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WP:YOUTUBE and WP:VIDEOREF cover the basics. -- zzuuzz (talk) 12:03, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Alligators1974, it should almost never be necessary. In all the years I've editing, I've added a YouTube link just once. In that case it was clearly uploaded by the organisation that made it, and contained significant factual content that wasn't available in any print source I could find. Most attempts to upload are at best illustrative rather than factual, which is why we have a bot that looks for undesirable ELs Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:57, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Draft: redirect[edit]

I'd like to propose deletion of a redirect, which remained in the Draft: space after the accepted article has been moved to main space. Which of Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion should I use in {{db}}? Or maybe such redirects are automatically cleaned up by some bot I do not need to care about it at all? --CiaPan (talk) 12:14, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I believe R2 is correct. †dismas†|(talk) 12:59, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. I thought so. However, it says:
'This applies to Redirects, apart from shortcuts, from the main namespace to any other namespace'
and I'm considering a redirect from Draft:, not from main. --CiaPan (talk) 13:11, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please, see Wikipedia:Drafts#Redirects_from_drafts_moved_to_mainspace. Ruslik_Zero 18:38, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so it should not be deleted at all, neither manually nor automatically, not speedily right now, and not later, either... OK, thank you, Ruslik_Zero. --CiaPan (talk) 18:48, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2017-18 NHL and NBA templates[edit]

What No Templates come people get your lazy butts in gear. 2600:8803:7A00:976A:905E:DFA5:A87F:D2EA (talk) 15:29, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What's the reason that you can't create an account and create these templates yourself? (Yes, I'm being blunt.) I believe that you've come here several times over the last year or two and requested that we here at the Help Desk create these templates for you. But I don't recall why you're unable to do it yourself. You seem to be able to edit them just fine. If you could satisfy my curiosity, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, †dismas†|(talk) 18:33, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Are you unaware that everyone helping you out here is a volunteer? Many of whom are very happy to help at first, but eventually think you should contribute as well.--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:55, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Most probably also think that the OP abusing people (no matter how light-hearted the attempt) will not help motivate people to fulfil the OPs request. - X201 (talk) 19:21, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I have been getting increasingly irritated at some random person repeatedly coming here and demanding that I personally provide them some service. Now they are insulting me as well. --ColinFine (talk) 23:27, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I Created A 2017-18 NBA Template and some one deleted it maybe it was too soon. 2600:8803:7A00:976A:905E:DFA5:A87F:D2EA (talk) 20:42, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proper references[edit]

I received a notice that the page "Kamar Baldwin" may be deleted because of a lack of references and I inserted urls however I am not sure how to turn these into viable references. Scoutteamlegend (talk) 22:31, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scoutteamlegend (talk) 22:31, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scoutteamlegend, see WP:REFB for a quick guide on using references. †dismas†|(talk) 23:10, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Scoutteamlegend Rather than doing a "drive-by" which only describes the water while you drown, I'll actually help you. I've started a section on your Talk Page to ease you through the process with a more "hands-on" approach to adding inline citations and proper referencing. Thanks!
