removing {{UDP|date=August 2017}}[edit]

Hi, How do I remove this template please? I edited the article, placed more ref and cleaned it up. Am 360 (talk) 12:25, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I presume you're talking about Aaron Frenkel?  Seagull123  Φ  13:10, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Read the template text, This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies. I would advise asking at the talk page of the article to see if other editors think the problems have been removed. I'm pinging @Doc James, who added the tag on 2 August 2017 to see if they can help explain anymore.  Seagull123  Φ  13:16, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The editor concerned was Yinonk. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:36, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
David Biddulph and  Φ  Hi, I have no idea who this is and from another name there, I can see its another editor who is known in Israel or used to be at least... Anyhow, I cleaned the articel up and added more ref, it should be ok now and I also asked David Biddulph to revert back to my edits. It is clear Frenkel should be on wiki and I tried to make the article as best as possible since I dont have more information on him. If you can help more, it will be great. adding a business to the wikipedia page[edit]

how do I add my boss's business to the wikipedia history page?

thanks craig — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.36.121.44 (talk) 14:02, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you will need to give us more information. However, based on your question, you would have a conflict of interest (COI) because you work for the person who owns the business, and as such, you are strongly discouraged from editing about that subject. But if you want someone to write an article about the company, once you've read Your First Article, visit Requested Articles and make a request for someone else to write it, providing reliable sources to prove the company's notability.  Seagull123  Φ  15:06, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble uploading a picture[edit]

Hi,

I am trying to upload a photo and wikipedia is giving me the following error:

We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons.

I believe this photograph meets all the criteria of wikipedia.

This is the only know photo of Andre Monument with its base. The base was blown up in 1885. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_John_Andr%C3%A9_Monument

The photo was extracted from http://gutenberg.polytechnic.edu.na/4/3/7/5/43753/43753-h/43753-h.htm which clearly states on the first page:

The Project Gutenberg EBook of Cyrus W. Field; his Life and Work, by Isabella Field Judson

This eBook is for the use of anyone anywhere at no cost and with almost no restrictions whatsoever. You may copy it, give it away or re-use it under the terms of the Project Gutenberg License included with this eBook or online at www.gutenberg.org/license

Also, this book is not covered by US copyright as it was published in 1896.

How can I upload this photo? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stormdog123 (talkcontribs) 14:32, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Stormdog123, I would suggest asking this at the copyright village pump at Wikimedia Commons. However, I believe that this licence, PD-Gutenberg, may apply to the file you tried to upload. I'll post a note at the copyright village pump pointing to your question here.  Seagull123  Φ  14:59, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
{{PD-Art|PD-old-auto-1923|deathyear=1930}}{{PD-Gutenberg}} would cover all the bases. I'm not sure if the upload wizard allows that, though... could select "Copyright has definitely expired in the US" and then "First published before 1923 and author deceased more than 70 years ago"... then, if so inclined, edit the page manually. Edits by Catharine Smith[edit]

Dear Wikipedia Editors,

My name is Catharine Smith. I am a public information officer with the United Nations and I am responsible for uploading information about high-level UN appointees on Wikipedia. I have had several messages saying that my entries could be a considered a conflict of interest.

Please clarify.

Best regards,

Catharine Smith — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catharine Smith (talkcontribs) 19:06, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Catharine, this question has already been answered at your talk page. Please read WP:Conflict of interest, and if necessary, show it to your employers. Maproom (talk) 19:29, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If the UN so desperately needs to use Wikipedia as a platform then perhaps the UN should grant WMF a desk at the UN also, where we can promote our credo too. I can appreciate that it can be a grind and chore to attend all those fine luncheons, spends days away from the family whilst stuck 5 Star hotels and be chauffeured around everywhere and only be allowed to fly in executive class (all paid by the UN)– but someone has to do it! Never-the-less, being a glutton for punishment I here by volunteer to sit on the UN on behalf of the WMF. After all, we have a higher World profile than some smaller UN members. ;¬) Aspro (talk) 22:43, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Catharine Smith. I'm sorry, but you (and presumably the UN) have a misunderstanding about Wikipedia. As far as Wikipedia is concerned, you are emphatically not responsible for editing those articles. Your involvement should be limited to suggesting changes, preferably with references to reliable published sources independent of both the individual and the UN. --ColinFine (talk) 23:05, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
