Valerie Falls project[edit]

You speak of the Valerie falls project being a 10MW HYDROELECTRIC unit. In the next sentence you speak of the station being converted to biomass from coal. These are @ DIFFERENT STATIONS. Valeri falls uses water as a power source. OPG Atikokan Generating Staion is the place that was converted from coal to biomass. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.235.225.105 (talk) 02:08, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

... and? Pppery 02:36, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done - in Atikokan, thank you for pointing this out. In future, please mention the article's title to help editors locating the problem. You can also fix such issues yourself if you like - anyone is welcome to edit Wikipedia. GermanJoe (talk) 02:42, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pat Metheny[edit]

I'm not sure where to go, because it's not a big issue, but an anonymous editor has been doing something weird on the Pat Metheny article, continually removing and replacing the same basic information over the course of several edits a day going back a couple of weeks. The minor annoyance is that I have had to correct a couple of repeated grammar/spelling errors that he/she keeps putting in after I've corrected them, which is tiresome, but the whole editing pattern is weird and totally clogging the article's history/my watchlist. Like i said, not a huge deal, but also odd and annoying. PaulCHebert (talk) 03:30, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

EDITING[edit]

Hi, I made a article but then my PC died, but I pressed Save. How do I re edit that article?

TheRealAzza (talk) 03:31, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The message you just posted is your only edit under the username TheRealAzza. Unless you made the article under a different username, you didn't save it. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 03:35, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Do nothing whatever. Wikipedia:Conflict of interest explains. Quick summary for your client: "Wikipedia's rules prevent this. Wait till you're famous. Then reliable, independent sources will write you up; and then other, independent people can use these to create an article." -- Hoary (talk) 05:03, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alisa Alyabyeva (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I am creating a Wikipedia page for a Ballroom dance professional by the name of Alisa Alyabyeva. I have been advised by Fred C, that he has earmarked the page for speedy deletion because there are no references. Alisa has multiple YouTube videos and Google posts on the web to verify her authenticity. Please explain how I should proceed to avoid deletion of her page from Wikipedia.

Thank you . . .

Francios Fleur — Preceding unsigned comment added by Francois Fleuer (talkcontribs) 16:29, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Francois Fleuer, sorry but proof of this dancer's existence is not enough for us to include an article about her: we also need evidence of "notability", established through references to reliable, independent published sources where reporters or critics independent of the person have written about her in some depth. "YouTube videos and Google posts" (and social media pages) will not assist, as they may well have been put up by people associated with the dancer. Please see this advice on how to insert references.
The proposal to delete this article allows 7 days to improve the content. If you are able to find and insert at least one reference of the type I have described, then you are free to remove the tag by editing the page and deleting the top line. However, if independent coverage just does not exist yet, then Wikipedia cannot include an article about Alisa Alyabyeva until her career has attracted wider attention: Noyster (talk), 17:45, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Brantford[edit]

Reference help requested. Do not know how to fix broken reference names. Please help on "Brantford" and "Pangnirtung". Thanks, empirecoins — Preceding unsigned comment added by Empirecoins (talkcontribs) 17:34, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On Brantford, you have tried to use a reference named "2016cma", but you have not defined such a reference. There is a "2011cma", but not "2016cma". --David Biddulph (talk) 17:43, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And on Pangnirtung you tried to use a name "C2016" without having defined it. The reference defined is "C2011". --David Biddulph (talk) 17:46, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lancelot Cooper Draft[edit]

Hello editor Timothyjosephwood has informed me that my draft article Lancelot Cooper may well be rejected because of notability issues in that all my references are primary and none secondary. I replied to him that Cooper was indeed a notable person ( see his talk page) giving my reasons and it was only because nobody had 'discovered' his historical records previous to me that nothing had been written about him. I would like to know who makes the final decision concerning whether my article will accepted or rejected so that I can plead my case Aln Taylor Alantaylor17 (talk) 20:48, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just because there exists historical records of Lancelot Cooper that doesn’t make him notable in the encyclopedic sense. He appear to just be one of the many other career criminals of that period which will also have records documenting their activities.--Aspro (talk) 21:25, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again Alan, the difficulty with the Cooper draft is that although he might have had an interesting life, he is not well known and little, if anything, has been written about him in independent reliable third party sources which is what Wiki requires. Consequently he is unlikely to be searched for in a general encyclopedia. Eagleash (talk) 21:39, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pinging Alantaylor17. The fault of your argument on Timothyjosephwood's talk page is in the premise If [notability] refers to 'being worthy of being known' then.... - but notability has a very different meaning on Wikipedia, which is much closer to "is already known" than to "deserves to be known". See the link WP:N for more details.
As for who makes the final decision concerning whether [your] article will accepted or rejected, there is no "editorial board" with someone responsible for that. Some veteran editor will review your submission and either accept or reject it; it might take a while, because there are 654 articles waiting for review right now, and yours is probably not a simple decision either way (I suspect Timothyjosephwood was reviewing submissions and decided not to act on yours).
If the article gets rejected and you have a reason to think the review was incorrect, try to discuss it with the reviewer at first. You can resubmit it to have a second review if you still think they have an incorrect understanding of the guidelines, but AfC reviews rarely get overturned - AfC reviewers are usually better familiar with Wikipedia's guidelines than new authors. Finally, if an editor makes a serious breach of civility - e.g. if the reviewer declines the article with an unconstructive comment such as "that article is crap, and the author is an idiot" - you can report them here, but the odds of that happening is low. application to add an passport to international passport list[edit]

it's pleasure for me to contact you about the need of adding saharawi arab democratic republic passport to the list of country's passport. however this state is recognized as member of african union and her citizens access traveling through the world but they face troubles with international airlines companies which allowed the mentioned passport code. for this reason become more than necessary to register this new travel document on your wikidata and give international code to this passport to be valid travel document. once again the problem is found with the aviation companies across the world. then this country( saharawi democratic republc) (SADR) has right to included in the international passport's passport. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 197.251.143.59 (talk) 22:26, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We do have an article on the Sahrawi passport. It is also listed at List of passports, if that is what you are asking. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 22:41, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 5.3 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. Using {{efn}} with nested references[edit]

I'm working on a draft revision of a policy page (User:Sangdeboeuf/No original research), to enable full citations for sources mentioned in the explanatory footnotes, and to reduce clutter in the source code. I've created named references as described under WP:REFNEST and H:PREGROUP (see § Notes). My problem is that three of the numbered references are missing, and one footnote (name=BookReviews) appears blank. I assume I've made a mistake in the code somewhere but I can't locate it. Any help would be appreciated. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 23:39, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have a bit of experience (not much) doing this and I'll look at it if no-one more experienced wants to take it on. I suggest making another test copy of the draft and reducing it to the minimum content that exhibits the problem to make it easier to work with. Meters (talk) 23:55, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done – see changes here. The problem with one note appearing blank was apparently solved by getting rid of the external links in square brackets, but reference numbers 6–8 are still missing from the reflist. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 01:39, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, just noticed your reply now. I'll take a look tomorrow. Meters (talk) 08:42, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Sangdeboeuf and Meters: I think you've run into a long-standing bug in the software, phab:T22707. You can use <ref>...</ref> tags inside {{efn}} footnotes, but it all falls apart if you try to define the efn footnotes inside the {{notelist}}. I've made an edit at User:Sangdeboeuf/No original research 2 - the footnotes are now working, but your tidy coding is lost. -- John of Reading (talk) 09:01, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to have a more knowledgeable responder than me look at it. Meters (talk) 17:19, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 01:21, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
