Hi, so what exactly is your question? Do you need help with the citations or the image file? ThatGirlTayler (talk) 02:25, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tallest buildings[edit]

I believe that there is a mistake in the wording and or the heights of the spires of the Chrysler and manhattan bank buildings. I was unable to edit — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:120C:2F:88DF:FB60:82E0:FAF5 (talk) 14:12, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would love to help, could you please give links to the pages that you are talking about and explain why you think the heights are wrong? Thank you ThatGirlTayler (talk) 14:42, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Chrysler Building has the correct height. There are many Manhattan Building, the Chicago one does not have a height listed. L3X1 (distant write) 03:33, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page elements overlapping[edit]

At certain page widths, the references section of Basilica of San Vitale overlaps with a figure that is to the right. It is fine at large and small width, but gets wonky in the intermediate range (maybe small laptop size). I don't know enough about image placement to know what is causing this or how to fix it. Can you explain? Leschnei (talk) 14:17, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How to start new namespace[edit]

How to use List namespace such List:Taiwanese Company to indicate List_of_companies_of_Taiwan and namespace Disambiguation like Disambiguation:Taiwan to indicate Taiwan (disambiguation) In this way, crossspace should allowed per List and Disambiguation namespace advocated.UY4Xe8VM5VYxaQQ (talk) 14:44, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @UY4Xe8VM5VYxaQQ: There is no list or disambiguation namespace. I highly doubt you can convince editors/the Wikimedia Foundation to have one, but you can try your luck here if you really think it would be an improvement.
What we do have though, is categories. In your example, List of companies of Taiwan is in Category:Taiwan-related lists, which is itself a subsubcategory of Category:Lists. Taiwan (disambiguation) is in Category:Disambiguation pages. TigraanClick here to contact me 15:17, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
New namespaces must be added to the software configuration by the developers. See Wikipedia:Bug reports and feature requests. But it would require consensus at the English Wikipedia first and that seems unlikely here. See the searches WP:"list namespace" and WP:"disambiguation namespace" for past discussions. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:22, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, some wikis already have such a thing, e.g. the "Anexo" namespace at es:wp. es:Anexo:Condados de Virginia could be a mainspace page, just like "List:Taiwanese Company" would be, but if you click the "discusión" tab, you see that it goes to es:Anexo Discusión:Condados de Virginia, not es:Discusión:Anexo:Condados de Virginia as it would if "Anexo" were just part of the name. Nyttend (talk) 23:42, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Anexo was added to the eswiki setting for mw:Manual:$wgExtraNamespaces in https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=InitialiseSettings.php after a request at phab:T11304 with a link to a discussion at the Spanish Wikipedia. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:40, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

TimedText namespace[edit]

what is the TimedText namespace? 1.165.153.218 (talk) 14:58, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's for subtitles. See Wikipedia:TimedText and commons:Commons:Timed Text. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:10, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My edit has made the space slightly too big in the "Middleton Francis Middleton" after the first little section (ending with King Edward III). Please help if you can - leave the gap - but not as big Thanks Srbernadette (talk)

 Done Eagleash (talk) 22:24, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am too nervous to put a link on a photo on this page. The captin underneath the photo of the lady titled, "Olive Middleton's ..." should - I believe - have a link directly to George V (King). Thanks as always Srbernadette (talk) 22:28, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wildcard searching[edit]

How does one search for all articles whose title includes a word beginning with IJ? Judging by Help:Searching, I thought intitle:IJ* would suffice, but this returns no results, even though we have pages such as Hoge vuurtoren van IJmuiden and Lage vuurtoren van IJmuiden. Nyttend (talk) 23:37, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Try intitle:*IJ
See also Help:Searching#Syntax. The Transhumanist 02:02, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't work; it only finds pages ending with IJ. And my use of the asterisk after IJ was based on the section you link, Wildcard search. The two wildcard characters are * and \?, and both can come in the middle or end of a word. Nyttend (talk) 02:24, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Nyttend: There may be better ways, but I have created User:Nyttend/Article titles with a word starting IJ from a recent database dump. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:05, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
John, thank you! I needed the list for a specific purpose that's now been completed; I can't imagine how I would have been able to do it without a search mechanism if you'd not used the database dump. Nyttend (talk) 17:03, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
