February 4[edit]

The abbreviated name for this athlete should read Nicki Cochrane as per her personal twitter feed. Great Britain hockey have made a mistake. Article only created in the last 24 hours. Could someone please amend the page. Thanks.Gomach (talk) 00:16, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gomach: Looks like it has been recently moved to Nicki_Cochrane RudolfRed (talk) 00:30, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request Edit for KWYF-LD[edit]

I work at the station that transmits this station in Casper, WY. We recently dropped the MyNetwork TV content and are showing the normal MeTV schedule. I thought this should be updated. Thank you.47.44.120.114 (talk) 01:34, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Please provide a reliable source that supports the change you wish to be made. Claiming you work for the station does not meet Wikipedia standards for reliable sources. Thanks TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:13, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key[edit]

Footnote error occurred during rewrite of Oswald Boelcke.Georgejdorner (talk) 03:49, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Georgejdorner: from what I can tell two of the references use {{sfnp|Head|2016|p=39}} however the other one uses {{sfnp|Head|2016|pp=39}}. When I changed the three to matched the error went away however I'm not familiar with this article or template so I'm not sure which version it would be so you can try that or if you tell me which version it should be I can fix it for you. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:46, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TheDoctorWho: Sure enough, when I knock the "p" out of it, the error disappears. Many thanks, Doc.Georgejdorner (talk) 04:58, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem always glad to help! TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:01, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all,
I'm trying to fix an error - "Error: unknown |type= value (help)" - in that article.
Nothing I've tried seems to resolve it, and I would appreciate your assistance.
(Yes, this is an admin with 50K edits asking for help. I'm quite aware of my skill-set limitations.)
Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 09:46, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pete, "type" can only be either of the following: "city", "suburb", "town", "lga", "region", "cadastral", "protected" or "other". Thanks, Lourdes 09:54, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote an article draft on article wizard. But the offer wasn't accepted. Please view my draft Draft:TSM (footballer) — Preceding unsigned comment added by BestManTSM (talkcontribs) 12:11, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks a lot like Draft:Thando Mdluli. I have filed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Thando Sihle. Sam Sailor 12:30, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Virginia's Sheriff's Departments first open gay LGBTQ appointed, Major James D. Jenkins of the Richmond City Sheriffs' Department[edit]

Richmond City Sheriff C. T. Woody Jr. appointed Virginia's first open gay LGBTQ Liaison on June 14th 2016. Major James D. Jenkins, a twenty three year veteran of the sheriff's office, was appointed and interviewed by news medias in central Virginia. His vast experience in working with the public in law enforcement with decorations, made him the perfect choice for such an honored position as the first sheriff liaison in Virginia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.244.5.52 (talk) 21:30, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

While that is great news, do you have an actual question? If you are hoping to have a article on them, then they probably need to be more notable but you can check out requirements here WP:GNG. NZFC(talk) 21:39, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Someone keeps trying to reset my password[edit]

Someone keeps on trying to reset my password. Not just on en.wikipedia but on other wikis as well. It means I get a lot of reset password emails constantly. I've put in a Template:Committed identity on my userpage. Can't use Wikipedia:Simple 2FA since I'm not admin. Anything else to do? F (talk) 23:26, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to prevent a hacker from accessing your account then the main thing to do is choosing a strong password which is not used at other sites. Anyone can request a password reset mail at Special:PasswordReset. Considering your username is a single letter, I guess nobody is actually trying to hack your account but different people are just entering "F" for whatever reason. You cannot prevent password mails from being sent when your account has stored an email address but your mail software may have a way to filter them out so they don't bother you. You could probably avoid the mails by changing username but that may be a big step for a small problem. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:58, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

copyright material[edit]

Trying to figure out how to clear copyright of some of my bio text from my blog for use on wiki. I added this link per wiki suggestion https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/. Correct or no? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terry Stanfill (talkcontribs) 23:30, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • That clears the copyright problem. However you must be aware that by placing the notification on your blog, you are making the material available to anyone at all who complies with that license, for any compliant use at all. This would include your worst enemy making some sort of a negative web site all about your supposed faults. Completely independently of the copyright issue, you should be aware of WP:COI and WP:PAID. If you or someone associated with you intends to now use the material to edit Wikipedia, you need to be aware of our conflict-of-interest policy WP:COI. Basically, you are strongly discouraged from directly editing articel about yourself. Finally, if you ro soemone else is being paid to edit you your behalf, it is mandatory that the editor disclose this: see WP:PAID. Also, a blog is not a what Wikipedia calls a reliable source, so the ways an editor can use the material is restricted in certain ways. See WP:BLOGS and WP:RS. -Arch dude (talk) 03:48, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please understand, Terry Stanfill, that Wikipedia has essentially no interest in what anybody (or any organisation) says or wants to say about themselves. As an encyclopaedia, it is only interested in what people who have no connection whatever with a subject have published about a subject in reliable places. If there is a reasonable amount of material that people who have no connection with you have chosen to publish about you (the Wikipedia jargon for this is that you are notable) then there can be an article about you, which should be based almost entirely on those independent sources. If there has not been, then no article about you will be accepted at the moment, however it is written. --ColinFine (talk) 15:19, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
